The Reimagined Bowlerville: Then and Now

Hello everyone!

If you guys don’t know what the blog is about, it’s about a documentary of the development of The Reimagined Bowlerville. This is a document containing all of its development history for the project and many other facts that you probably didn’t know about how the project was going to be compared to my final one that I probably haven’t finalized yet. Let’s dive into one of the development timeline of The Reimagined Bowlerville shall we?

Early History

The Reimagined Bowlerville dates back to June 10th, 2021, in which the original name of the project would be kept confidential for a reason that would be described later. What would become The Reimagined Bowlerville now originates from an artwork that a plagiarist “made” by recoloring 7 anthropomorphic animals someone else made into a red-and-white color scheme. It was claimed to be a rip-off of one of my earlier concepts, The Bowpin Group. In addition, I really dug the concept of animal bowling equipment and the plagiarist themself didn’t do anything more to the concept, so on June 10th, 2021 I decided to claim the concept back as my own.

The demo version of The Reimagined Bowlerville is set in a fictional island of the somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, kind of inspired by an obscure game, Squeeballs Party. In this first story, 4 foreign humanoid characters who won a bowling tournament, sapient animal-shaped bowling balls and bowling pins around the island live together.

The visuals and style for The Reimagined Bowlerville, as goes for my usual original art style, was going to be inspired by Naomi Iwata’s art style mixed with the style of Ribbit King. The retro Japanese CG style is one of the main inspirations of coming up with the style that I tend to design for many of my characters. The project’s main protagonist is not any of the bowling beasts despite having a concept around them; instead, it’s a humanoid robot who would now be 42UR3. Despite having a different design back then, his trait of liking to have fun is always here. 42UR3 has his bowling-ball headed humanoid friend and partner named Lawrence, a teen who is more expert in bowling than 42UR3 and a nice individual who isn’t reluctant to teach his friend 42UR3 to be a better bowler.

I originally planned for Lawrence to be a human, but I struggled to design a human that fits with my art style, so I resulted with a bowling ball head instead.

I originally was going to plan for the first script to be a full web comic series but I soon stopped making it after only a few episodes that I published. The Reimagined Bowlerville didn’t fade into obscurity because of that though, as I still actively draw concept art out of this concept of mine.

The Reimagined Bowlerville Development History

The prototype of the project was completely different from the current version of the project. If you have read the web comic, you should be familiar with the current version, but if you didn’t, I would summarize the gist later in this blog.

As mentioned above, the prototype takes place in a tropical island. The project stars Beta 42UR3, who is a robot who has bowling as one of his hobbies, and Lawrence, Beta 42UR3’s partner. One day 42UR3 and Lawrence made it to the finals of a bowling tournament together, and they along with 2 other semi-finalists all won a trip to a tropical island inhabited by anthro animals as bowling equipment. The other 2 semifinalists are Marcus and Felix. Marcus is a magician like in the current version, albeit less skilled in magic; Felix is a bowling pin head who is redesigned from one of the characters of The Bowpin Group I have yet to reintroduce in the current version of The Reimagined Bowlerville.

I remember doing more concept arts than pages of the first web comic. At that time, the characters used to have different designs, however these primary character designs will not be shown here to avoid potential copyright issues concerning the plagiarist.

But there was one problem to this project during its development. The Prototype not only contains characters that does not stand out from the original traced “designs” by the plagiarist, but I also find its story kind of broken.

Later, I decided to gradually rework the series into what the series is right now, which is The Reimagined Bowlerville.

Differences between the Prototype and the Current Version

Pin beast team names used to be based on their body types. (Prototype)

Team Tumblers used to be afraid of being knocked over due to an error causing them to have more sensitive nerves. This also played a part of the beginning of the prototype's main lore (Prototype)

The plot-device asshole that is I-LAND UNIT which is not and will never be seen again in the Current Version

The 7 characters that are originally traced are now replaced with new characters. (Current Version)

The story now takes place on a village that is built upon a death valley by the particle-bending magician Marcus. (Current Version)

The Future of The Reimagined Bowlerville

I am still keeping up with making new pages for The Reimagined Bowlerville every day except Saturdays. Besides, I also wanted to make an animated series and a tie-in video game, or even multiple tie-in video games, for the project, even though The Reimagined Bowlerville is still in the process of establishing new characters as well for the lore of it.
