When I signed up for Boulder 70.3, I hit submit, received my confirmation, shut my laptop and looked over at Lanny and with a slight tremble in my voice and a sick feeling in my stomach, “Fuck.” Lanny and I had plans for 2018. And none of those plans involved a half Ironman. When I committed to this, I committed us BOTH to this. This wasn’t just my plan anymore, it was ours. And plans have to be adjusted. And plans are going to be pushed back. That night we sat on the couch and he gave me the best pep talk I have ever been given in my entire life. His words were encouraging but firm. I’m listening to him and I couldn’t help but cry. “It’s not going to be easy, girl. But I’m excited for you. I’ll be there for you every step of the way. I’ll encourage you. I can’t wait to see the person you become during all of this. I can’t wait to see the person you become after it.” His love is the best love. I never want another.
