Picked up a few new succulent babies this weekend... . I was out hunting for inspiration at Lowe's and found several trays of small potted succulents for just $1 each! 😳 They were looking sad, neglected, and droopy and calling out to me to take them home! 🌿🏡 . Brought these little guys home and stuck them in a shallow bowl of water and they are looking so much better! They've perked right up and will be ready to pot this week. . #donnanaturale #succulentsofinstagram #plantrescue #greenthumb #sadnomore #succulents #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantlife #plantparent #succulentlove #plantsofinstagram🌱 #plantmom #plantsarelife #plantsmakemehappy #greenblogger #greenplants #plantsplantsplants #water #bottomwatering #wateringplants https://www.instagram.com/p/CHF0guBHZ98/?igshid=24036dq1c2ra

Some of my plants prefer bottom watering. This is true for my ricrac cactus, where the soil needs to dry out between waterings. Over time, top watering causes the moisture to "funnel" into specific areas, usually towards the stem of your plant. For impatient waterers (like me), this is a disaster waiting to happen. The pooling water near the base can lead to rot. 🛠For this set-up, get yourself a deep, non-poreous, tray. I like to use clear plastic ones, since they're inexpensive and I can monitor them at a glance. Now, I just fill up the tray and walk away. Love it. 📸 #ricraccactus #fishbonecactus #epiphyllumanguliger 🌱 #soilgrown #bottomwatering . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #cactus #cactusclub #cactusofinstagram #plantinspiration #houseplantplantclub #houseplantsofinstagram #houseplantsofig #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #plantsobsessed #plantsinreallife #plantsofinsta #succulentsofinstagram #foliagelove #plantwatering #houseplantcommunity #houseplantjournal #plantdiary #plantcare #plantsofig #girlswithplants #planttips #urbanjungle #trailingplants #terracottapots https://www.instagram.com/p/CKMI9vXgwrs/?igshid=1tgaf18lqhrys

Everybody I got an Echeveria (wanted an Evicheria Setosa but none were available) and saved a poor snake plant from the $15 cart, it has two dead leaves and some rotting tips due to overwatering so we're hoping to repack her soil and bottomwater her instead
Question is: what should I name the ladies

I dont think maro lied, I just think he works at a large company and sometimes its best not to announce when things change because that might hurt more than help But Rudy saying "Mark Bathwater" and "Mark bottomwater" and "The spirit of your ex-girlfriend" will never stop being funny

i dont know what kind of cacti i have, theyre all different! youd think after a year of no water or a fresh pot theyd be kinda worse than before, when i followed all the instructions on how to care for them. but yeah i tried to kill them when i started having a small fly problem - most likely because of some shitty earth i bought for other plants. and yet theyre still going strong.
well the whole thing about cacti - and all succulents in general - is that they store water for droughts. to be fair, a year is a long time, but not necessarily unheard of. they also don't need repotting all that often, I think I had some of mine in the same pot for years (I repotted this year after a couple of years. but my mum's had plants that were in the same pot and completely neglected for literal years and they were perfectly fine too) a small fly problem sounds like gnats? that's a really common problem that happens all the time. they just fly in somehow, literally every plant owner struggles with them at some point. it's not because of shitty soil. in fact it's usually just because of moist soil, they like putting their eggs in the top layers of moist soil. I assume the gnats are gone now? drying out your plants for a bit (if the plant can handle it) does seem to work. I'm not good at this because I'm a chronic overwaterer, and just put cinnamon on the top, and then bottomwater for a while and that seems to usually do the trick too.
are you watering your cacti again now though?

Watering the ladies. Thank you @thoma_rama for teaching me the ways of plant #buttchugging or #bottomwatering. My #diffenbachia has been fussy so we'll see how she takes to a smaller pot and bottom watering. The #pothos just keeps on trucking. https://www.instagram.com/p/CD7B07mBHlDXDy90Pmvv3OrRlqxbfXVZNnz95E0/?igshid=rfb5c6ohckcd
