Pattern in my OTPs: Sadistic! Top x Fearless! Bottom

Dont mind me, just self-indulging about my OTPs

Anyways!

Recently, I've noticed that I have a certain type when in comes to my OTPs which is a sadistic top paired with a fearless bottom. Granted, not all of my OTPs are of this type but I dont think its an exaggeration when I say that at least 90% of them are like this

GinHiji

Out of all of my OTPs, I'd say GinHiji pretty much embodies my favourite type of OTPs. Gintoki is canonically a Sadist and in fact, is known to be a Do-S alongside Sougo. Contrasting him is the fearless yet tsundere Hijikata. Another reason why I like them is the manzai combi they have. Hijikata is forever exasperated by Gintoki and cant help but be the tsukkomi to Gintoki's boke 🤣

BakuDeku

These 2 have a very complicated relationship but thankfully have improved a lot especially in recent years. Bakugou can be quite sadistic but considering what's happened between them and him canonically wants to do better, I think it'll take awhile for Bakugou to let out that sadistic side of him around Deku

With Deku though, he doesnt mind and I think we all can agree that Deku is a disastrous combination of fearless and reckless 😅

One of my 1st OTPs since high school. Now, I dont think i need to tell anyone who's ever read or watched KHR that Mukuro is hands down quite terrifying and considering his introduction, has a sadistic streak a mile wide

For Tsuna, yeah....while its true that he tend to be more afraid than not but as time went on, it became more apparent that he's grown to be couragous and fearless when it comes to his Famiglia

KamuShin

granted, this is more of a crackship since Kamui and Shinpachi barely interacted but I like how their personalities mesh together. Kamui is another canonically sadistic chara in Gintama, anyone who's ever seen him fight in the Yoshiwara or Silver Soul arc can attest to that. Not to mentioned all of the shenanigans and mayhem he likes to cause with a deranged grin

Shinpachi is noted to be fearless in his own right, capable of accomplishing feats that other normal humans would feel impossible to even try. cant forget that he's also the one who made Utsuro pause before the timeskip

plus, they're also a manzai combi! a Do-S Yato boke with a glasses tsukkomi XD

ParaEmu

initially, i like them as a switch couple but recent years make me lean more of them as a fixed pair with Parad as a top. starting out as a villain, Parad was noted to be quite sadistic especially when he possessed Emu. He's since mellowed out but since we dont see much of how the charas are post-canon, its hard to say if he retained his more sadistic nature. i tend to hc that he does but only lets it out when needed

if anyone knows Emu's not so pleasant childhood and how he's risen to overcome many obstacles in life, then i think we can agree that he's become one of the most fearless charas in Ex-Aid

DeathPuss

okay, this one is pretty much on the nose. sadistic grim reaper hunting down everyone's favourite fearless hero anyone?

WangXian

Wei Wuxian is one of the most fearless charas I've ever had the pleasure to know about. the way he holds onto his morals and convictions even as the whole world turned against him is nothing short of inspiring. born with a smile and a noble heart that's matched by his beloved husband Lan Wangji

while he's not sadistic in the usual sense, Lan Wangji in the novel is known to mercilessly tease his husband especially in :ehem: bed. not to mentioned that when he deems it necessary, this man never hesitates to swiftly cut people down with just a few words right at jugular too

DazuShi

a suicidal former Port Mafia who's known to torture people paired with his steadily fearless were-tiger. i love their dynamic

MiSawa

Miyuki Kazuya is canonically known as twisted by both allies and opponents alike even feared to the point of petrifying the target of his ire with just a glare.

Sawamura Eijun? the fearless sunshine boy who overcome odds that would and have retired many players from the game. the Yips arc was remarkable in showing Eijun's strength and determination

KaiShin

the trickster who can easily manipulate law enforcements and enemies alike. its more noted in the early chapters of the manga, but Kaito was more callous. while thats no longer the case, Kaito is still quite unhinged

Shinichi? well, with all the reckless stunts he's pulled over the past 20+ years, i think fearless is an understatement for this detective

LawLu

the recent addition to my OTP list. LawLu is the one that made me realise that I tend to favour sadistic tops when I was trying to articulate Law's preference in my HC

thats when I realised that Law has a sadistic streak in canon. while its not explored all that much since he's an ally of the Straw Hats, we see hints of it. combined with the fact that he's a nerd, big on plans and control, he's a terrifying force. this is the same guy who cut opened 100 pirate hearts and sent them to the Marines

Luffy? he's fearless as they come. overcoming many hardships and coming out stronger. who fights for freedom and nakama even if it means facing death. hell, its canon that he's not afraid to face death for what he believes in

raving is a common past time of a lot of asian americans so in an alt universe where they're as-am im gonna predict what subgenre they'd be into / what genre would represent them.

sawamura kuramochi and isashiki are def headbangers. sawamura would def ride the rail. haruichi would def be an illenium simp. miyuki and furuya would def be into john summit. idc.

im gonna focus on seido for this ! doing all of them would be hard so im just gonna pick a few characters i could definitely categorize.

overall, i think seido would be dubstep, but a specific type (subgenre of a subgenre???) like edm songs that have very melodic verses but have a hard dubstep drop in either the middle or at the end. two songs came to mind.

for act I seido, i thought of dont look down (hold on) by excision, wooli, and codeko.

i feel like i can imagine the players singing the verses to each other: holding each other up, keeping each other focused, reminded each other of everything they did to get to the place where they are now. for both this song and the next song, i think the hard drop represents the burst of energy or passion they feel during critical points in a game.

for act II seido, i thought of shivering by illenium and spiritbox.

similar to the last song, but i think this song is more angsty and intense, in a sense. i feel like the verses refer to a past in which they suffered or endured something difficult. i can feel this song being representative of the new team as they fight for their old third years and rebuild themselves from the bottom up. i imagine singing this song to their opponents and also each other, about what they've learned and the intense determination to succeed that they hold.

with their loud personalities and fiery attitudes, i think kuramochi and sawamura would be hardstyle.

i dont think theres a moment in this song where it truly slows down. the pounding bass represents his footsteps, and the quick tempo represents his speed. truly encompasses the cheetah.

as for sawamura, his take on hardstyle would definitely be the songs with epic sounding narration.

sub zero project has many songs like this, but path of the warrior is definitely sawamura's type. he would definitely call himself and his teammates warriors 💀💀

jokes aside, this type of hardstyle is also very uplifting. as "epic-sounding" the narration in the song is, it fits into his role as ace of lifting up the teams spirits. it also reminded me of his pre-game speech of asking for his teammates to prepare for any balls. best boy eijun :)

literally just scrolling through my edm playlist while brainstorming and it hit me that furuya is so the dominate vip by space laces. i'd say this genre has both dubstep, techno, and big room influences.

[for those of you who are unfamiliar with edm terminology, vip stands for variation in production. similar meaning to remix, except a vip holds more of the original song content (i think lol)]

though his personality is not as intense as say, sawamura or kuramochi mentioned above, i dont think this means he's exactly a wallflower either. this song is more "laidback" in the sense of perhaps tempo, but the hard-hitting drop and the quick intervals between them reminded me of furuya's pitches; nonstop, heavy pitches. despite his chiller demeanor, do not underestimate him on-the-field.

switching gears, haruichi is a quite positive and uplifting character that nicely balances out sawamura and furuya. as such, i felt that he would fit progressive house. still energetic, but has softer elements to it. i think he's pretty encouraging to his teammates and genuinely cares about them a lot, so superhuman by tritonal and codeko came to mind.

the lyrics make me imagine haruichi saying these uplifting words to his teammates, such as in moments when they doubt their abilities or begin to place blame on solely themselves. i think he'd be one to remind them that they're all in it together.

as i was writing haruichi's entry, hollow by dabin, kai wachi, and lo spirit came on. immediately thought about okumura. it has elements of both dubstep and melodic bass.

the lyrics made me think about okumura being inspired by his seniors, particularly sawamura and miyuki. especially sawamura, who seemingly teaches okumura the art of being in a battery. when he was just getting used to the team, okumura did come off as hollow, but after getting to know sawamura, it seems that he's gaining valuable experience and knowledge in both life and baseball. i think the melodic bass aspect signifies the beauty of a baseball battery while the dubstep signifies okumura's solid presence and pressure on the field.

lowest of keys had trouble of thinking of something for miyuki, but i decided on make u sweat! by knock2 !! this is bass house.

i think knock2 is pretty revered in the edm community for being revolutionary in his music. with this song, i go beyond relating miyuki to just the song, but also the dj, as both are highly respected/well-known in their communities. both are young with big careers ahead of them in their respective fields. as for the song itself, i felt like sweat in itself pretty much represented him in both a game and in practice LMFAO but i also think miyuki is clever and playful, much like this song and other of knock2's works. catchy (no pun intended), addictive, and unique. that is miyuki kazuya. that is knock2.

as a character, i thought chris you as comforting, soothing, and reliable. he's a little more lowkey, and so i knew to categorize him as house: miracle remix by calvin harris, ellie goulding, and mau p.

chris was vital to the series, not only to seido as a whole, but also for being a role model and inspiration to miyuku and sawamura, two very key players in the current seido team. his presence is a miracle as the song suggests. when i first heard this song, i was entranced by it; i was relaxed, yet i was also filled with energy. i think chris has the same effect: a comforting presence, but he inspires you to do more.

as not only an anime/daiya no ace post, but also an edm post, i dont think this list is complete without mentioning subtronics. (dubstep)

isashiki is def subtronicscore: scream saver by subtronics.

this song bursts your ears; it's intense, heavy, ear-splitting, but you can't help to listen to it.

isashiki is loud, hence scream saver. particularly at the moment where it says "target marked," it made me think about him hitting the ball with his bat, sending it flying. he plays for "the kill," or for the win, in other words. i imagine him challenging his opponents and securing victory for his team with this song.

it was really fun to write this post, as it's a combination of two of my two favorite things at the moment: edm and daiya no ace. these are the match ups that come to mind right now, but if more come to me later, i'll post a part 2 to this! :3

… A heavy struggle for the win during the second to fourth innings, with both aces giving up hits but no runs. Soon enough, one side would have to bend. Unfortunately, it seems Seidou was the first… Furuya Satoru gave up five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bases were loaded. One out. Seidou’s relief pitcher, Sawamura Eijun (#18), stepped up and managed to keep them from scoring, even against Ichidai’s cleanup and fifth batter…

An apology. A request. A denial.

… Despite Sawamura-kun’s impressive pitching, Furuya-kun was subbed back in during the bottom of the 6th inning, and managed to keep Ichidai runless for the rest of the game… We at Monthly Baseball Kingdom are hopeful for how Seidou, and Furuya-kun, will look during next year’s…

Summary: What...what’s happening. Why am I shaking?’ closing his eyes his head started to hurt as flashes of images and scenes from like a movie started to flit through his mind. Things that made no sense as he doesn’t remember any of this happening to him and yet all of the things he was seeing were definitely of him and the others.

‘Dead ball!’ an image of a ball smacking the head of an Inashiro player in the batter box in a game.

‘Yips’ the word causing his heart to race despite never having heard it before, he watched himself running in the rain with a haggard and haunted look on his face.

‘...he can’t pitch to the inside with a batter in the box’ a haggard look on his face as he stared down at his clenched fist with Miyuki staring at him worried behind the plate in the indoor bullpen with the boss standing in as batter.

‘There is a pitch I’ve wanted to teach you for some time now, this is the perfect time for you to learn it’ Chris said as he walked towards him with his glove in hand as he watched me struggle to pitch into a net.

‘Memories? Memories of what though?’

Eijun suddenly regains the memories of his futureself and is determined to fix past mistakes, at all costs.

Even with her sudden presence, Eijun could clap himself on the back for being able to behave normally. He didn’t realize how much he spoke or how fast, unable to tell how his voice would waver if he relaxed. Not that he could, with his anxiety about the whole situation making his heart pound in his ears. As long as he kept his head up, he could overcome anything with time. He had already proven this before; either he would pick himself up and dust himself off, or he would be left behind.

But his breath hitched at her request, his empty words caught in his throat at her touch. Blinking, his golden-brown eyes found their focus on her pretty green ones, his once big smile suddenly feeling out of place on his own face. Like this, he could still remember bowing deeply to her on her last day, thanking her from the bottom of his heart for looking after him all this time. He released an unsteady breath. Though she had to move on to bigger and better things, she still looked out for him.

“Y-Yeah,” he murmured numbly, as his hand gently squeezed hers. In the face of her concern, he began to calm down. Eijun watched her phone slide away in the direction he had come from. He could hear the sharp crack of a bat from here, knowing it was Furuya’s overwhelming pitch that made contact. He could picture the fielders working in tandem to get the next out, timing it by the crowd’s muted cheer echoing through the underground stadium. “But the team, I—” Even if he had to sit in the dugout through all nine innings, surely there was still something he could do.

When he looked back at her, he felt crushed. “Sakura-senpai…” She knew how much he had struggled to get to this point, and she had been there for him when he was at his lowest. Even if she had been instructed not to get too involved, not to baby him if he truly wanted to be this team’s ace, he had appreciated her efforts more than anyone would know. There was nothing to be done now, and he was ashamed of himself for making her worry, but she would listen, and, really, that was all he needed right now. Taking a deep breath, he straightened up, keeping her hand in his as he recounted the events.

“About four days ago. We were in the middle of a practice match to gear up for this game.” To prepare for the summer tournament, the players on the first string were pushed to their limits and then past that. Surely, Alice would remember how rigorous their training was, waking up as the sun rose and swinging their bats well into the night. “In the middle of a pitch, it felt like something in my elbow gave out and—” excruciating pain. He remembered the wild pitch colliding with the fence as he fell to a knee with his hand pressing desperately hard against the loose joint.

He lowered his gaze and slowly curled and uncurled his left hand, feeling the strain both from moving and not moving much at all. “It’s my fault.” He shook his head and wrinkled his nose in an effort to keep himself together. “I felt something was off, but I didn’t say anything because—” It was in their Seido soul to stubbornly persevere. Like their predecessors, Eijun never wanted to give in, especially in his third year. “I wanted to be depended on as their ace. And now—”

No. Don't. The more he spoke, the more her heart shattered in its violent ramming against the inside of her ribcage. Him trying so hard to keep it together was an insight into what his every waking hour had been like ever since this injury. That sick feeling was steadily, uglily morphing into anger and filling the growing abyss in the pit of her stomach.

How many players had willingly broken themselves to shoulder the weight of expectation in the three years she'd been a manager? How many throughout the club's existence? Her mother's voice rang through her memories, how hearing a Russian accent still made her stand up straighter long after she'd retired from dance.

Calm down. Sawamura-kun needed her - anyone - to be strong for him and not the other way around now more than ever. With a tight breath, Alice steeled herself for the both of them and held his handsome, panicked face in her hands. "Eijun. Stop." Gentler than she'd ever been with him before, Alice gingerly rubbed her thumbs over his cheeks, holding his sunset colored gaze. "Don't force yourself to smile. Not with me." And she refused to let go until her words had sunk in.

Upon releasing his face, her hand naturally found his, holding onto it tightly and safely. "Stay with me for a little bit, yeah?" Years of working as a tutor to little ones (and then to not so little ones) came with the habit of immediately notifying parents of any change in plan. Fury threatens to boil over at the thought of him being alone in his pain. Again. How the adults supposed to keep him safe and guide him through difficulties did nothing when he had yips. She can't imagine things have changed in less than a year.

Coach Kataoka, this is Sakurazuka. I ran into Sawamura-kun at the stadium. He's with me. With a minute twitch of her eyebrows, she kept herself from adding something decidely not courteous and sent the message, sliding her phone back into her skirt's pocket. The antagonistic part of her wondered if he'd even notice his ace gone. Sure, the team was actively playing, but with Sawamura-kun being the loudest voice in the stadium, she couldn't imagine them not noticing his absence... Furuya-kun is on the mound, though. That same voice in her head reminded her, dripping with venom.

Mentally shaking those thoughts away, Alice brought her focus back onto what mattered, the sight of him instantly pushing away the bitter feelings she had towards gross mishandlings of the past. There was one happening right now, after all. "When was it...?" How long had he been holding on for dear life to try and keep himself whole?
