Fëanorians RPG stats:

this has been in my drafts for a month so it's about time I spam it to everyone (edit: you can now find the Nolofinweans here too)

All Fëanorians (except Celebrimbor) have a Silmaril Proximity Radius bar. When the bar is full berserk mode can be activated against Morgoth's forces OR a powerful attack bonus against kin and relatives can be unlocked.

All of them (except Celebrimbor) have a diplomacy malus with Doriathrim interactions. All players are locked out of dialogue options in Alqualondë.

Equipping a silmaril causes both fire damage and psychic damage to the character but allows stronger attack power against Morgoth's forces.

Maedhros: biggest HP bar. Reverts to basic attacks and gets slower around the Thangorodrim general area (this can be resolved keeping a song user player in the same party).

The player can customize the character to be left or right handed, ambidextrous attacks can be unlocked through the game.

Bonus diplomatic dialogue options are available, except with Doriathrim and Teleri npcs. Noldorin interactions unlock extra royalty based dialogue options.

Maglor: basic HP bar + extra Song bar, functioning as a mana bar for song based attacks. Moving around certain parts of the shoreline will activate unskippable flashback cutscenes and momentarily lock the character out of the party (this can be resolved interacting with other Fëanorians players and/or after visiting Rivendell a certain amount of times).

Noldolantë spell gives psychic damage to BOTH friends and enemies present in the same area as the player.

Celegorm: basic HP bar + special tracker pointer to locate hidden enemies and npcs at all times. The player controls both the character AND Huan at all times except in Doriath.

Bonus animals dialogue options are available. High diplomacy malus with Doriathrim interactions.

In Aman the player can unlock a special combo to summon the Hunting Host of Oromë.

Caranthir: basic HP bar, gets an extra "how fucking angry I am" bar, which refills as the character gets hit. When the bar is completely full all the damage inflicted upon enemies gets double effectiveness.

Bonus diplomatic dialogue options with the Haladin are available.

The player gets special prices and deals in shops and trades interactions, with particular discounts on dwarven artifacts.

Curufin: basic HP bar. All self crafted weapons have different and special attack bonuses if equipped in combat. Bonus forging options and abilities are available to the player. Weapons and bonuses can be used by other players if weapons are exchanged or gifted.

High charisma stats in Nargothrond, but low diplomacy stats with Doriathrim interactions.

Ambarussa: basic HP bar + special tracker pointer to locate hidden enemies. Playing with both twins in the same party allows extra attack combos + special ability to swap character mid combat with the other twin. A player can choose to give up control of their character and let the other player control both twins at the same time.

Both players can unlock a special Osanwe Chat, even at long distance.

Low defense against fire damage.

Celebrimbor: basic HP bar. All self crafted accessories have different and special attack bonuses if equipped in combat. Bonus forging options and abilities are available to the player. Accessories and bonuses can be used by other players if objects are exchanged or gifted. Every equipped ring unlocks its own extra mana bar.

Bonus diplomacy options with dwarves and with elven royalty are available. Malus in interactions with and defence against Sauron.

Fëanor: normal HP bar, all self crafted weapons and accessories have different and special attack bonuses if equipped in combat. Bonus forging options and abilities are available to the player. Weapons and accessories and bonuses can be used by other players if objects are exchanged or gifted.

Special Oath ability allows the player to summon all the Fëanorians in the nearest proximity to help in combat.

Bonus on the Silmaril Proximity Radius bar. Bonus attack power against Morgoth's forces and next of kin. Defence malus against balrogs.

Character gets an extra "how fucking angry I am" bar, when the bar is completely full all damage inflicted upon enemies turns into fire damage. As HPs get lower fire damage to all enemies increases exponentially. When the HP bar is almost empty the character enters flaming berserk mode. If not refilled an empty HP bar will cause self combustion in a final special fire based attack against everyone and everything in the nearest proximity.

Extremely high charisma stats with Noldorin interactions, except Nolofinweans and Arafinweans.

Alqualondë turns into a locked area if the character is equipped or played in the party.

Equipping the character with a single silmaril allows a special charge attack through Morgoth's forces, lowering by half even the dragons HP bars. Equipping the character with all three silmarils at the same time will cause the game to crash.

The player is the only one who can control and reset the Palantiri Chat password.

Things I learned from 7 years of collecting Nendoroids (part 1?)

-  Preorder.  Always.   Not only does this make things easier later, when you're at conventions and worried about booths' stocks getting sold out before the lines cap off, but it supports the companies (both Good Smile Company, so they can keep making figures, and the anime production studios so they can keep making anime).   Those preorder bonuses are pretty sweet too.   But most of all, if you’re buying a popular character, the preorder is the cheapest price you’ll find.  Those after-market price increases after the figure is actually released will go as high as the popularity and demand of that character will allow.  So better to just preorder before you get scalped.   -  Group order.   I've been doing group orders with my brother for several years now, and it really diminishes the argument that ordering directly from Good Smile is too expensive.  Sure, the only shipping option is that expensive $20 EMS shipping, but if you split the cost with other people, it becomes much cheaper than buying from a store, where they'll generally charge at least $10 more than the MSRP to cover their own shipping costs, in addition to the after-market price increases.   -  Wait to place your order near the end of a preorder period.   Good Smile's social media hypes up the day a figure's preorder window opens and encourages you to "preorder today!"  ...Yeah, don't do that. It's a little known fact that Good Smile will only charge shipping for the first box in an order; the rest of the boxes are free. If you order 10 figures and only 5 of them are released at the same time, Good Smile will mail that first box for $20; then when 2 more figures are released a few months later, those are shipped for free; then when the last 3 figures are released, they're mailed out for free too.  And I can't blame Good Smile Company for not letting that information spread around.  My brother and I have saved a LOT of money, gaming that feature.  If you order each figure, immediately when their individual preorders open, each figure getting its own individual order, then you're paying $20 shipping for each of those figures.  That makes every figure $20 more than its listed price.  Each order with only one figure in the entire order, will charge full shipping for every single figure you order.  But cram in as many figures as you can into a single order, and that $20 EMS shipping is dispersed.  So instead of placing only one figure in your order and that $60 Nendo getting saddled with $20 shipping and jumping to $80, place 10 figures into one single order, and that $20 shipping gets divided into only $2 extra for each figure.  Then your $60 Nendos only jump to $62 instead of $80.  Figure preorders are generally open for around a month, and during that month, several other figures could open up their preorders.  Cram as many open preorders into any single order as you can!  Because $2 shipping for each of 10 figures is better than $20 shipping for each figure.  (Then top that off with a shared group order, like I have with my brother who is also preordering 10 figures, and suddenly I’m only paying $1 extra shipping fees per figure.) -  Hold off on those after-market marked-up buys.   It's been joked about in web comics now, that every time you give in to buying a Nendoroid at the after-market price, because you just have to have that character...Then Good Smile will immediately announce a re-release.  -.-;  I've fallen into this; every figure collector has fallen into this.  But now with more KanColle "Kai II" versions and Marvel "DX version" Nendoroids, there's now a very similar problem of buying a figure, and though it doesn't immediately get announced for re-release, a better revised version of the same character gets announced.  Sure, those "DX versions" cost more than the original versions, but with the price increase on all figures after their release date, prices found in online stores for the original figure, are pretty comparable to just preordering the "DX version".  And the more years pass, rereleases seem more and more frequent.  Each time another character from the same series is released, Good Smile often does a second print run / rerelease of the Nendoroid of a previous or main character from the same series.  It’s become a pretty consistent pattern.  And sometimes they’ll just rerelease a figure becasue their series is getting another season after a long hiatus or their videogame is getting a new port. So unless you’re buying during intense sales, like Black Friday, or have insane discounts/coupons/reward points with a store, it’s better to just wait and trust that a re-release will come.  ...And if they don’t, you can request rereleases on Good Smile Company’s Product Inquiry Form too.  (Product Inquiry Form will be discussed in the bullet point “Request figures”, listed below.)   -  It's okay to throw away the boxes or packaging. Most of me still feels like this is a cardinal sin, but practical space reasons necessitate that I can't keep it all anymore.  Most of us in this situation recycle the plastic "bubble" packaging, fold away the boxes, and keep them collapsed as preserved official art.  But there are people who throw away the entire box, official artwork and all.  And knowing that really helps alleviate the guilt.   But if you're planning to sell your figures one day, then keep all the packaging and boxes.   On the other hand, there are stores like J-Figure who will buy used Nendoroids and are willing to sell them without boxes.   -  Use My Figure Collection. https://myfigurecollection.net/ Firstly, their databases take a lot of the unknowns out of buying figures for the first time, or from an unknown store, or if you’re worrying about bootlegs. Every entry for a specific figure will list if a bootleg exists, and often photos of the actual bootleg so that they’ll be easier to spot and avoid. Their store database lists online and physical shops, as well as proxy buyers, listing them by alphabetical title or by country.   And every entry in their database rates each store, including multiple reviews from the hundreds of users of the MFC website.  They will warn you if a store is known to sell bootlegs, if they have bad sales practices, what their shipping policies are, if they have restrictions for first-time buyers, etc.  It’s incredibly helpful, especially if you’ve never done international orders before.     Outside of their database, signing up for an account allows you to keep track of your collection.  Sure, there are some data points that MFC does not have entry fields for.  Like dates orders were placed for a figure.  But it is so helpful to avoid duplicate buys, keep track of budgeting, and when figures are coming in.  At least in America, if you're not home when your figure is being delivered, the post offices will hold packages for only a short amount of time, before they are mailed back to sender. So you need to constantly check to make sure they didn't attempt a failed delivery and are already starting the clock without your knowledge. MFC's quick roll-over popups with release dates, really help me stay aware of when to expect figures.  Otherwise, there's nothing like waiting months for your Nendo, only to find that not only did you miss it, but you're going to be missing it for maybe another month or more.  Fortunately, you can just contact Good Smile and they'll re-send the figure.  (I'm not sure if that's for free though.  But I expect it would be?)   -  Watch unboxing video reviews.   Maybe a figure has been released for a while and it's a good price to justify any after-market mark-ups.  If it's not a character you care about, but you just gotta have those accessories for some other figures in your collection, make sure they do what you need.  Sometimes you'll have an idea for a custom Nendo, a custom assembly of parts, but then you get them home and find they don't fit.  Official photos and official reviews don't try to mix parts between characters, so they often won't show the full details of how things work/fit.  Official sources will only show the figure, in and of itself, doing only what limited poses they intended.  If you're going to do more than that with your display or figure photography, check out the unorthodox angles of an unboxing video.   -  Read Kahotan's Blog.   https://mikatan.goodsmile.info/en/ Despite my previous point, that's not to say official reviews have no use.  Kahotan's Blog is the official blog with behind-the-scenes reviews of upcoming Nendoroids BEFORE they are released.  This makes the decision easier to preorder before dates close and after-market prices mark-up.  And Kahotan's Blog photos will often have more angles and even a few animated gifs demonstrating special features of a Nendoroid.  Like the swivel joint in Tracer's hair.   And yes, the URL says "mikatan.goodsmile.info".  The blog used to be "Mikatan's Blog", until she left Good Smile Company.  And right now there are multiple people writing on Kahotan's Blog, at times.  Don't let it confuse you.  These are all official Good Smile employees with insider reviews.   -  Request figures.   Often on Good Smile's official social media, people will essentially comment, "This figure announcement is trash!  Where is such&such character instead?"  There's really no reason to do this. Especially when you can say, "This character is great too, but I'd love a Nendoroid of such&such character <3" or "I'm happy this character's fans are getting a Nendoroid, but any news on such&such getting a Nendoroid?"  Granted, Good Smile representatives have said to inundate/"harass" them with requests on their social media, so they know what we want. But I'm certain they meant "harass" as a joke.  And here's something for all the people complaining about requests for such&such character, on Good Smile posts announcing another Nendoroid:  What do you think these companies have social media accounts for?  Make no mistake, their social media is for MARKETING.  They want to know what we will buy and what would be worth their money to allocate resources towards making.  They _want_ us to express what we want.  Hell, Good Smile is even willing to change features of announced figures with prototypes already approved for production, before their release dates, even after their preorders opened.  Legend of Korra got added element accessories and another faceplate, and those were retroactively added to everyone who had already placed their preorders.  They changed the eye colors of both Harry Potter and Kingdom Hearts's Riku, just because of Facebook comments.  Good Smile's former representative Mamitan used to tell the story of how Nendoroid Menma got a rerelease because people in the comments on every post about other figures/characters were all, "We want a re-release of Nendo Menma!"  So if you're one of those people who went to the comments section of a figure announcement, expecting to see nothing but fanboying over just that figure, and are inexplicably angry when people discuss other figures/characters, then I don't think you understand why Good Smile bothers maintaining their social media in the first place.   https://partner.goodsmile.info/support/eng/productrequest/ Good Smile has actually improved their figure request process.  The Product Request Form has recently gotten its own page, whereas it used to be part of the form for reporting product defects or asking bootleg verifications.  It's become more streamlined, more user-friendly, and more inviting for frequent use.  I can understand why the Product Request Form is still buried under their Customer Support pages.  They can't address all figure requests, especially if it becomes a deluge.  But it is a much more productive form of requesting Nendoroids than just trashing whatever figure announcements they just posted on social media.  And Good Smile has said at their anime convention panels that if they get 3,000 to 5,000 requests for a figure, they'll consider making it. And it has worked, multiple times before.  So it's always worth filling out the form and informing friends to do the same.   -  Unbox your figures.   There's been a long-standing culture established by American action figures, that boxed figures, with packaging that's never been opened, are more valuable.  This is not true of Nendoroids.  They are made form a type of plastic which needs oxygen to maintain itself.  Good Smile representatives have repeatedly warned that Nendoroids which do not get air, develop strange yellow and/or black spots or tint.  As I understand it, most of the plastics used to make anime figures are constantly evaporating off their plasticine, the ingredient used to soften plastic for manufacturing molds.  If these emitted plasticine vapors are trapped within box packaging, they will bounce back to the figure and begin to melt its surface.  I've dealt with this on some Ranma 1/2 trading figures (not even from Good Smile Company) and it is slimy, takes some patient cleaning, and always puts figures in danger of losing their surface details.  Unbox your figures!  Let them air out.  And if your display cases are air tight, give them regular internals to breath.  I was lucky that my Kagome and Lucky Star Figma actually melted my display case base, instead of the other way around.  That plasticine will react unpredictably with different plastics, so make sure they are regularly aired-out.   -  Use display cases.   Granted, my previous point seems to make a case against display cases, but they are still more useful then they are trouble.  I used to keep my figures in open-air on shelves...Where they would gather cakes of dust.  Then every once in a while I'd have to scrub them with a dedicated soft-bristle toothbrush.  And I'd wonder, is this the cleaning session where I scuff a paint job?   It's just a lot easier to put your figures into display cases.   You don't need big expensive display cabinets.  You don't even necessarily need display boxes.  Because display boxes can become more expensive with size, I use clear folded gift boxes for my larger figures.  These clear "gift boxes" are often at craft stores in the gift wrapping section.  There was even a time clear paint cans were trending as gift boxes, and I used some of those to display figures.  But where hard display boxes/cases can be $20, a collapsible gift box is generally around $1 or less.  They're too soft to stack, but sometimes you just need to keep the dust off.  Well, most of the dust.  Foldable gift boxes are still not very rigid, and their folded sides do have a tendency to dome up.  But I think this lets just the right amount of aeration inside, while keeping most of the dust away.   Don't just get Ikea's Detolf.  There are some good thrift store finds for less cost.  I got my display cabinet from a local thrift shop for $30.   Daiso's $5 "Collection Box Arch" can hold 6 Nendoroids if you angle the Nendos' bases.  (As long as the Nendos don't have tall ahoge nor are floating with big wings.)   -  Carry a Nendoroid with you.   Whether you're on vacation or running some errands, you never know when a cute photo op might appear.  And even a less interesting outting becomes eventful, when looking for good compositions and having your Nendoroid interact with the scenery.  Get a small plastic hard case, line a tin with cushioning felt/bubblewrap, or get a small plastic food container, and carry around your Nendoroid.   -  Birthday greetings.   Figure photography doesn't have to be a self-contained diorama.  Some very interesting figure photos break the "fourth wall".  Nendoroids make great birthday messages to friends, because they're so cute, no one cares if they don't know the character.  

-  You don't have to buy figures of characters you don't know.   I have no grievances with collectors who care solely for figures as "beauty pieces" regardless of any attachments to character or knowledge of a series.  I'm just warning that it can be an unnecessary use of budget. I've wasted a lot of money on Nendoroids which were pretty, but don't have that extra worth of feeling personally attached to the character/series.  Some are worth it, but not always.  I remember there was a time that I almost bought a Figma Kirito because I love long black trench coats, even though I didn't know SAO (and would later not care much for it).  But by 2017, Figma Joker was announced after I had gotten into Persona 5, and suddenly there was a character I already loved with a long black trench coat.  It's like waiting for a rerelease.  If you just wait, a figure announcement will appear, more perfect than previous options.  (Actually, that was advice I got from the sword collecting community.  "You don't have to kill your budget with every beautiful sword you see; a better one will inevitably come along.")   [I don’t know why I stayed up to write this.  If I write more, it'll be a part 2.]

FE Fates Replay - Part 3

When we left off, we were ready to make the decision between the Hoshidans, and the Nohrians.  On one side, our peaceful blood relatives, who have finally been reunited with you after all these years.  On the other, the people you’ve grown up with, who serve a mad king that seeks only to subjugate other nations.  Now...we must choose...

The decision between the two is interesting.  Based on the Nohrian events at the outset, we’ve been given a glimpse of what the kingdom is like on the inside, and then we’re shown how brutal their tactics can be once we join the Hoshidans.  The Hoshidan segments prepare us for the inevitability of the choice, and frame things as a matter of which family you are siding with.  That’s an important distinction.  It’s not a matter of your ideals.  Those are never in question.  Regardless of whose side you’ve been on, Corrin remains true: she seeks to protect people, and create a peaceful end for both sides.  The question is, which family do you belong with?

The Hoshidans seem convinced that you are meant to be with them, by virtue of blood.  But really, what is family anyway?  Yes, they are your “true” family, for whatever value that has.  But what have they done as your family?  Mostly, they’ve just tried to assure you that, although you’ve been raised in Nohr, you are one of them.  Hinoka has a pure display of emotion toward Corrin, but beyond that, they offer almost nothing else.  Compare that with the Nohrian siblings.  Xander, your older brother, who helped you train, day after day, so that one day you could leave the tower you were kept in.  Leo, risked his own head defying your father, just to help you hold to your ideals.  Elise, who visited you every day and kept you company in your imprisonment.  Camilla, who looks out for you and the other siblings.  Though the few chapters we had with them, we’ve seen how devoted they are to you, and the bonds you share.  Comparatively, the Hoshidans offer nothing other than “the truth,” that you are part of their family.  There are no bonds, and Corrin herself remarks on how she feels nothing toward these siblings outright.  Though your blood relation is there, your bonds are in Nohr.  The reason to side with Hoshido is your ideals, the path that fights directly for peace, and doesn’t involve dealing with Garon at all.  But the game has insisted that the choice should be based on which family you belong with, and that being the case, the choice should be obvious.  We side with Nohr.

“But what about the true route?”  Shhh!  Later, okay?

When you pick Nohr, it politely informs you that you won’t be getting extra experience or gold.  That’s funny, because I have the DLC, so I assure you I will not go without.  “I thought you wanted to maintain the difficulty of the game?”  Yeah?  I’m not gonna power level, but I want my money.

Anyway, the Hoshidans are devastated, and Ryoma goes on a lot about how it was your destiny to be on their side, and the Nohrians must have brainwashed you or some shit.  This is honestly the point where we should just turn around and leave, but instead, the Nohrians are insistent on fighting.  If they leave, the Hoshidans might think they’re scared, or worse, might think that Nohr coerced you into joining them.  No, we have to fight to show them that Corrin picked them over the Hoshidan siblings!  ...guys.  Guys, this is really petty.  Like...really petty.  I’m starting to have second thoughts.

I will note that, if Corrin fights with certain siblings in this map, you get a bit of extra dialogue.  I didn’t get Hinoka’s dialogue with Corrin, but Takumi’s is mostly him being like “I knew you’d betray us.”  Yeah, I guess even Takumi saw how boring his family was and knew I’d go back to the cool kid’s club.  That said, your dialogue with Sakura is fucked up, man.  Sakura can’t even fight, you run up to her and she’s like “Corrin, are you really going to fight me?”  And Corrin just goes “No, I just...need you to take a long nap...”  I know you mean knocking her unconscious, but damn, that’s harsh.

After the conflict, Azura tells you that your choice can’t be undone, but you’re sure to see each other again.  Jakob arrives and tells you he’s been looking for you.  You also run into Lilith.  Jakob’s confusion here is great.  Anyway, this brings us into My Castle for the first real time, and we can start setting up.  You know what that means!  The entire rest of this is going to be me VIOLENTLY COMPLAINING about My Castle!

Fuck this goddamn shitheap.  I hate it.  I think half the detriment to gameplay is right here, in this fucking place.  Let’s start with the worst: artificial resource collection.  There are 12 resources and 10 kinds of food.  Resources are used to upgrade your weapons, with different weapons needing different types of stones.  The stones, I believe, are separated into 6 for Nohr, 6 for Hoshido.  You need a veritable assload of resources to forge one weapon, and the level you can forge is pretty low.  You also need copies of said weapon at the same level, in order to forge up.  So you may be wondering, if I’m playing Nohr, and money is tight...how do I get the resources for this?  Short answer: you don’t.  Forging is so goddamned expensive you can’t realistically do it without the DLC.  More importantly, you only get one unit of resource from your own castle, and only of one type.  To get others, you need to go to other castles with wireless features, and do all that.  Then, you can also get bonuses for how often you visit or battle the other castles.  Oh, and the cap is 9999.  So...good luck with that, I guess.

“Wait, battle?” you ask.  Yes, you can battle other players in their castle!  Finally, Fire Emblem has PvP!  ...kinda?  The other team is AI controlled, so it’s not proper PvP, but they’re trying, I guess.  Anyway, what’s really funny is no one really does that.  PvP in this kind of game is stupid.  Why?  Because when you win, you can buy a skill from your opponent at a discounted rate, if you have the same character!  So, remember having to choose an alternate class for Corrin at the start of the game?  Let’s take my choice, Samurai.  Samurai can learn Vantage.  However, by choosing this path, I locked myself out of, say, Knight class, so I can’t get Pavise.  I can rectify this by going to the castle of someone who did pick Knight, and learn their Pavise skill by beating their castle, and they in turn could get Vantage by beating my team.  Now, put on your thinking caps, kids.  What is most valuable for everyone: setting up a proper fighting team, or setting up your units to be far away from the Seize point and letting them just run up to capture it?  The second, obviously.  They get skills, you get more visits from people who want things from you, and everything is great.  If you actually defend your castle?  You’re an asshole, and are what’s wrong with society.  Now this also creates other issues.  Marriage options in this game allow you to reclass to the classes of the person you married as well.  This means that, in essence, you can get every possible skills on any unit, depending on your pairing choices.  So finding people who chose differently is imperitive.  But there’s no way to find people who chose differently with any sort of reliability, so you’re sunk.

Now, the flipside there is that Awakening didn’t have this.  You had the classes and skills that were inherent to you, and nothing else.  I do like the idea of better balancing the kids and adults by expanding what the adults can learn, but the problem is that this whole process is tedious.  The only way to find those other skills is to locate someone online who is sharing their information, hasn’t updated their castle since sharing that information, and is apparently in the same country as you.  But more importantly?  Half the enjoyment of this kind of system is that units don’t play the same.  But now...they kinda do.  Anyone can be anything, but certain skills are definitely better than others.  There are certain combinations, but mostly you keep to a few tried and true configurations and don’t deviate.  So when you randomly go to castles hoping maybe someone will have Nyx with something unique, they tend to all have the same characters (lords or kids), and generally have the same skills throughout.

That said, there is one hysterical outcome of this, and that’s hacking.  Apparently, they didn’t think it would happen to them, or just weren’t prepared, but people immediately found a way to hack Aptitude onto every character in existence, and it spread like wildfire through this system.  So in a way, for anyone who is anti-hacking (which should be no one, but I know better), this system allowed everyone to be a cheater!  Even when you didn’t directly cheat, you still have cheats on!  Hell, even Hoshidan Unity is floating around all over, and I’m pretty sure that was an exclusive skill too!  Anything can be anywhere thanks to hacking, and this unnecessary system!

Then we have the Dragon Points, which you need to upgrade facilities.  You only get them from clearing maps and visiting other castles.  It’s another slow resource you need a lot of, because eventually you get statues of your units that, when created, increase their specific boon stat by up to 3 points for everyone who is well-supported with them.  So have fun farming dragon points out too!  Technically, you can do a bunch of these things at once, but it’s astonishing how, in a game all about quickly going from map to map and figuring out the strategy, their best idea for a central hub was a location that required you to stop actually playing the game for hours to farm materials.  Brilliantly done.

And this doesn’t even get into the controversial areas.  Prison is one, where you can capture enemy units and convert them to your side through...apparently torture?  I’ve heard that some lines suggest rape as torture, but I don’t know that for sure and I am so not willing to find out.  I don’t think Prison is actually necessary to improve, so I won’t even be building it.  Oh, right, fun facts: you need to upgrade some of these facilities to their max to recruit specific characters.  Flora won’t join you unless you have Fire Orb at rank 3, for some fucking reason.  I’m all for hidden characters, but that’s just obtuse.

The other is the most notorious one: the face-rubbing minigame.  I...god, what the hell were they thinking with this?  Guys, it was only cute in Pokemon because you want to give your little pupper Growlithe head pets.  They’re animals, and you’re petting animals, as is good and proper.  But these are humans, and you’re inviting them into your bedroom to stroke their face.  The US version got rid of it for your general cast, and only allows it for your wife/husband choice, but that’s...really not any better.  At all.  This mechanic never should’ve been in the game in the first place.  It’s creepy and uncomfortable, and I hate knowing it’s there.

I’m sure there will be other things for me to complain about, but for now, that’s all that immediately comes to mind.  The short of it is, I hate My Castle.  It was a terrible idea that does nothing but stall out gameplay for far too long, and completely invalidated the concept of making people choose a sub-class in the first place.  Half the fun should’ve been working with the pairings to get the shared skills to work in some combination, and instead you just play My Castle until you have the access to things.  Which costs money, so good luck with that.  I know, I know.  I can always play without those elements.  But the fact that they exist at all, and that I need tremendous amounts of resources just to forge weapons or upgrade the facilities here, means I may as well get skills while I’m doing it.  “Why don’t you just not forge weapons and use the stronger ones as the game progresses naturally?”  Ooohoho, friend.  Buddy.  Listen.  That’s another shout-fest for another day.  Safe to say, there’s a damned good reason you can’t just do that.

Ugh, this is making me irritable.  I think I’m gonna sit the rest of the evening out on this one.  If I’m gonna be fair to the game, I can’t be this riled while playing, so next part tomorrow, because tomorrow is, thankfully, a holiday.

All right, you caught us; this one isn’t really a bank account per se. But PayPal’s business account upgrade does have a lot of useful features for freelancers, including built-in invoicing and an easy-to-use app with mobile check processing — for those two or three clients we all have who still insist on mailing a paper check, even in 2019.

There’s no monthly fee, though you may pay fees for certain types of transfers. (It’s free to transfer funds to your personal bank account as long as it’s not a rush, however.) There’s also a cost to the business owner when invoices are paid; PayPal’s invoice fee is 2.9% plus 30 cents per transaction.

And I can tell you from experience that their customer service team is ace. When I accidentally transferred more than $200 to an account that didn’t exist anymore (

in Persona 5 for me it’s July 11th, meaning I’m exactly 3 months into the game. I’m going to assume I’m getting to about the third way point, both previous games lasted 9-10 months and I’ll assume this one will last until January on the end game Calendar. Here’s my thoughts so far, spoilers inside:

Well I’ve spent a clean 44 hours on the game already so there’s that. I haven’t even been fucking around a lot, I completed Madarame’s Palace in just the 3 required visits and I completely cleaned out Kaneshiro’s Palace in just one discounting Makoto’s joining visit and the re-visit to defeat the boss. I’m really digging the story so far, it feels well paced and everything’s progressing at a reasonable, steady rate but the tension keeps building. It also REALLY breaks tradition, but in ways I’m finding refreshing. I’ve already formed my Judgement Confidant in spite of being only a third(ish?) of the way into the game, and I’ve formed a Confidant relationship with someone I know WILL be a party member even when he’s not a party member yet. Though I don’t trust Akechi as far as I could throw him. I’ll have to play farther into the story to write a real feeling piece about it, I’ll probably do that once I complete the game. Igor’s got me scared though, and I really loved and trusted Igor wholly in the last two games. My social stats are progressing well, I’m at rank 4 on Knowledge, 3 on Guts (promoting to 4 soon I think), 3 on Charm, 2 on Kindness, and 2 on Proficiency (also promoting soon). I knew Knowledge and Guts would be the most important ones going in, they always are so I’ve given them a special priority. So far I love this game, it’s really stellar and it’ll be my game of the year for certain. Everything works really well, my sole complaint at this point is that one time I had a shadow not join me after giving two good answers to its questions during a negotiation and I wasn’t told why not, but whatever it’s fine. The dungeons are getting steadily tougher and I really like the variety in design approaches they take. Kaneshiro’s was incredibly long but could be done all at once if you had enough items and good enough pacing, Madarame’s required more involvement and opting into scripted events since you had to get stuff done in the real world as well, and given it was a tutorial dungeon Kamoshida’s was also good. Honestly the level design in the Palaces has all been really good and I’ve liked each more than the last by quite a bit. I even got unlucky with some Onis getting crits and hitting my whole party with Rampage near the beginning of my run through Kaneshiro’s Palace and I still made it through so I was pretty happy with that. The main plot and characters are very much enjoying that the game, while fairly lighthearted so far, takes itself seriously and handles its themes maturely. They don’t make jokes about serious things and they let things have the weight that they should. The Party Member’s social links going on lockdown if you advance them too fast to wait for another moment in the plot is also a great idea since it means they can build in some of the character’s development from the plot into the social link and vice versa. This, combined with how the social links each focus on them growing as a person from the issue that caused them to be socially outcast and ostracized in the first place gives it a more down to earth feel. The party members have noticeable growths of character and mindset in both components of the game’s writing side by side, and it’s good to see them finally address this issue the series had been having. Rather than being like Persona 4 and making each of them a HUGE LIFE CHANGING EVENT THAT HAS A MASSIVE EFFECT ON THEIR PERSONALITY but then that having no bearing on the plot so the whiplash of maturity is really immersion breaking, this game’s focus on a more personal push towards growth and change. Be it making amends for past mistakes like Ryuji, finding a new source of strength with Ann, or pushing forward and grasping his future in spite of his situation like Yusuke, they all have to deal directly with what caused them to become an outcast in the first place, and feel like strong bits of development that don’t completely change them as people. I personally like and relate to Makoto’s being about being more honest with oneself and living for you, and not for the expectations others have for you. This sense of giving situations the gravitas and seriousness they require extends to side social links as well, of which I’ve liked all the ones I’ve found. One that sticks out to me is Kawakami’s social link. She is your teacher and you happen to hire her through a maid service because Ryuji and Mishima are fucking dumbasses who want to see a hot maid do chores for them and the situation you find yourselves in is naturally a little sexually charged, something which the game does not ignore or distract from. It owns up to the awkwardness of the situation it sets up. As the social link progresses (without Ryuji and Mishima there) it even gives the player the option to try and hit on her in a sexual manner, but she turns you down on the grounds that A) You’re her student B) the age gap is gross and C) specifically sites it would make her no better than Kamoshida, who was your first target as the Phantom Thieves in no small part because he sexually harassed and in one case raped a student. The fact that the game doesn’t just walk the walk of saying ‘oh yeah sexually assaulting minors is bad’ which is obvious to anyone of decent moral standing, but further drives the point home and WON’T make an exception for you because you’re the player is very good and not something many games are willing to do.  The variety of characters you encounter during social links is also nice, from a washed up politician genuinely trying to improve the world after learning from his mistakes, to the owner of a model weapon shop doing illicit business, to just the guy who runs the Phantom Thieves’ Forum they’ve all got a charm to them and feel well written. One that worried me initially was one where you meet a news reporter in a bar and the bar happens to be run by a drag queen. I was worried cause I had heard this content was transphobic, but seemingly that was a misunderstanding from someone playing the japanese version with less than a perfect understanding of the language. Lala Escargot as she goes by, is voiced by a man in both versions and is referred to with ‘-chan’ and female pronouns, however this is proper etiquette for drag queens while playing their stage persona. Further, Lala Escargot is shown to be of good moral standing and isn’t made out to be a joke, two things I was glad to see happen. This game’s schedule also feels good. Like I said, I’m about a third of the way in and I feel like I’ve been able to make comfortable growth with both social stats and social links, and I was worried about that because the game really railroads you a lot in the first two plot arcs, but it’s working out comfortably. Combat feels really good, while spell animations feel a tiny bit less flashy than previous games I’ve still only seen a handful of them, and the combat animations are all still really good. The balance is great, I feel challenged but not overwhelmed, but it is noticeably getting a lot harder with each main palace. Your Teammate’s in combat abilities they gain from social links are definitely nerfed compared to P4 or P3 Portable, but honestly that’s welcome in my opinion. In the previous games they were flat out overpowered and could carry you through the game. As is they feel like nice bonuses that happen just often enough you don’t forget they’re there, but not so often that they take away any feeling of depth or strategy, particularly in P4 where they were extremely ‘Win More’ mechanics. Particularly the ‘Save the main character from death once per battle’ is reduced to a chance, but can happen more than once per battle if you’re lucky, and requires the relationship be at rank 9 instead of rank 5. A hefty but welcomed nerf that doesn’t eliminate any feeling of danger. Oh also! The fact that your non-party member Confidants confer permanent benefits, some in combat, some out of combat is a GREAT incentive to level them up. I know that I’m focusing on Kawakami’s so hard because it frees up so many phases in the game, not having to waste my own time brewing coffee or doing laundry is a huge boon, plus 1 point in knowledge from lecture (assuming I get the answer right) can be exchanged for two lockpicks and two points in proficiency, or a book read and its bonuses which is a great bonus effect. Eventually she even gives you the ability to go out at night after going dungeon crawling which in and of itself is an ENORMOUS benefit. Finally, as for the party members it’s really cool the variety this party has and their variety of motivations. They’re a very fun group whose personalities work together dynamically an in a fun way, I know I still have 3 party members left to get, so we’ll see how they affect things. I’m just loving how much we get to see them all interact, between how many plot events there are and that there’s at least one text chatlog a day with everyone talking together, it gives you a ton of dialogue with them and time to see their party dynamic.  Ryuji’s a good boy. I like him a lot, he reminds me a lot of myself in terms of behavior. His social link has been a little slow, but cute, and his date sequences when you aren’t actively going up ranks are also cool. One big improvement he has over Yosuke in particular is that after being hit on by a couple of gay guys he just expresses distaste for the situation and leaves it at that. He was uncomfortable with it, but he doesn’t hark on it and veer off into being a homophobic shitbag like Yosuke. But Atlas, blease let him be gay in the expansion I know you’re going to make. Let me date the vulgar boy he’s such a cute good boy. Really though his growth as a person is already tangible, he’s gone from feeling like a total outsider with nothing to work for and nothing to lose to being a fairly responsible guy who owns up to his mistakes. He’s still not smart but he’s grown enough that he’s the party member to remind the others to keep it calm and lay low after a major operation, which is a really cool role for him to play. Ann is fucking great, her force of personality and strength as a character is immediate right from the start. I was worried for her, but she’s an explosive character, a lot of facets to her personality and situation are revealed to you quickly and then elaborated on over the course of her social link and when you hang out with her or go on sunday dates together. She’s obviously a kind, strong individual but she questions her own genuinity and strength as a person, and is exploring different ways to broaden her horizons and improve. I was a little worried she’d be a generic spitfire angry girl, but really she’s only super pissed off at injustice and sexual harassment. A big part of her character comes from her staunch hatred and opposition ‘of men who treat women as sexual outlets’ (literally word for word something she says) and it’s a really strong, cool way for her to be. I’m very grateful for the game’s writing for having such a staunch, unmoving stance in opposition of treating women like objects especially in a series like Persona where fans have an extremely gross tendency to do just that. It’s a good lesson and message to put out there. In other cases she’s actually really level headed and willing to admit when she was wrong or when someone’s outplayed her. I like Ann a lot. Yusuke’s a really deep and interesting character who I sadly keep blowing off for Makoto and Ryuji, but I’ll hang out with him more soon. His circumstances are really fucking difficult, first of all he’s an orphan, which sucks. Secondly his adoptive father is abusive, which really sucks. Third off he’s autistic. Seriously, think on his dialogue and tell me I’m wrong. We directly get the line ‘not many people will deal with my eccentricities’ which is as close as Japanese media ever gets to saying ‘yes I’m autistic.’ His dialogue often hints to how people ostracize him for being autistic even though he’s a great guy and I’m sure it’ll come up in his social link in the future. I’m glad the game paints it as a negative thing for society to treat him bad and not that it’s bad he’s autistic, it’d be very easy to slip into that but they haven’t fucked up yet. And finally, he’s fuckin gay dude. Don’t fight me on this one, I know a gay when I see one. He specifically dodges the idea of being attracted to Ann ‘as a member of the opposite sex’ and the way he says it isn’t ‘oh I’m interesting in girls, just not Ann’ it’s much more ‘I’m not interested in girl, and thus not interested in Ann.’ He’s got a lot going against him, but unlike with Kanji nobody acts like it’s weird he isn’t attracted to Ann (though Ryuji will rib the player for saying the same thing) and everybody’s doing their best to be supportive of him. I’m excited to see more of his character and see how he overcomes the ways society is stacked against him. You can even take him on dates and he comments that it looks like you’re lovers. I hope he gets a nice boyfriend. (also atlus please make him a romance option in the expansion as well.) Finally Makoto is the character I’ve most been suspicious of how she fits in. She’s an honor student, lives in a nice house, has a sister in a high paying job, was born into a good family, what’s bad about her life? Well, she’s outcast from the average student because she’s ‘just a robot’ and she has these obscene expectations thrust upon her, yet people still call her useless. She has to constantly wear a face and be who people expect her to be and not who she really is. It’s a more subtle kind of outcasting and she certainly doesn’t face the negatives the other members do like being an orphan or having their best friend hospitalized after a suicide attempt, but she’s got her own set of issues which are playing out alongside these things. The game also doesn’t frame her situation as equally bad, it’s just a very stressful, difficult situation for her and she really needs an outlet and somewhere she can genuinely just be herself. The fact that her rebellion is just having a space to express herself normally in is kind of fucked up, she had a really suffocating life and now she doesn’t and I like that. Her Confidant relationship is also really fun so far, I like Makoto even if she’s not an outcast in as strong or the same kind of way as everyone else. I don’t have a lot to say about Morgana so far. I like him, he’s an enormous step up from Teddie, but I think I’ll only be able to write how I really feel about him once the game is over. All in all I fucking love this game and it’s a huge improvement over all of Atlus’ old products in all the ways I’d hope it would be. I’d still prefer there be a gay romance option in the game, but the fact that you can take guys on dates and that you have a gay party member who isn’t treated as weird for it is great. 10/10, my personal game of the year already.

-Three new linked assignments in the City, one on the Plains, and one in the Ever Forest. Highlights include a way to gain Fleet on a slaver, an alternate way to generate some assignment from scouting, and an alternate way to do biomancy which can purge corruptions and has some different options.

-Introducing scenarios. Six to start off with new ways to play, some with new starting options, some with new aspects and a lot more variation from the base game. ---Rebalancing---

-New difficulty setting in No Pressure, similar to easy but you can request gold or supplies once per day, and it blocks Disaster results while also locking off Critical results.

-You can now do Fulfil opportunities in the City even without meeting all the requirements though this will reduce the odds of success/gold required. The outfit that you send the slave in now matters more than it used to in both odds of success and in reward.

-There was an illogical situation where having too many bonuses increasing success would lower the odds of a critical. Due to this I've added the Crushing it! check where once enough successes have been added any further successes will count as criticals.

-Lago'Mae now have an improved less deliberating form of Sex Addict called Insatiable.

-Previously there was quite a few races that didn't have much variation in their possible default traits. Now all races have the same level of variation.

-When earning rare slavers via levelling through exploration outriders will always be centaurs rather than having inappropriate mounted oozes, lamia and the like.

-Seductive now pulls double duty for males as an alternative to feminine and beautiful for being really good looking. This also gives them a bit of a bonus for value estimating.

-Raised the cap of what you can wear to 50 sluttiness rating.

-Respect checks are now effected by what you're wearing in terms of sluttiness and what you're trying to do, for example intimidation is more effective while wearing armour. They're also effected by xp so inexperienced slavers are much easier to push around.

-Human Nobles are worth more.

-Starting full custom gold and supplies you can take repeatedly without having to click to continue and go back into Misc each time.

---Bugs and minor changes---

-Another attempt at fixing the greater than 100/less than 0% issue.

-When assignments were looking for <30 will/condition and the slave had 10 or less it wasn't counting correctly.

-Bimbo art when it was available wasn't being used, also rearranged some of the pictures for examines to improve variation or improve quality.  

-Corrected the Laughing Trickster shorthand in both places under the glossary.

Assassigns Creed Customization FAQs

Crafting and customization are back in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, but how does it all work this time around? What can you craft? What sorts of upgrades will you be able to invest in? How do the skill trees break down? We’ve compiled a quick FAQ to help you get started on your journey in London. This is the first part in our FAQ series to address a wide range of topics, so if you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below and we will do our best to address them in a future FAQ.

Crafting

What can I craft?

In addition to certain pieces of gear, you’ll need to craft upgrades for things like your bomb pouch and medicine efficacy. In order to craft some gear and upgrades, you’ll need to track down schematics. These can be found in chests, received as rewards for missions, or given to you by your allies.

How do I get crafting resources?

Crafting resources can be found in the many chests spread across the world, or gained through various missions. You can also upgrade the Scavenger ability to get even more resources from the chests you find around the world.

Can crafting resources be used for anything else?

On top of gear and personal upgrades, you can use crafting resources to upgrade your gang. Use resources to get discounts on items, bribe the police, sabotage the Templar’s carriages and weapons, make your Rooks stronger, and much more. We discuss the Rooks in more detail in this FAQ.

It looks like some gear requires special resources. How do I get those?

Some items require unique materials like Fire Opal or Golden Spider Silk to craft. These materials can be gained by completing certain missions, leveling up your Scavenger skill to raise your chances of finding rare materials in chests, or by increasing some of your associates’ loyalty levels. Vehicle enthusiast Ned Wynert, in particular, will reward you with rare crafting materials when you complete specific types of side missions.

Customization

What pieces of gear will I be able to customize?

In Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, you will be able to select your weapons (cane sword, brass knuckles and kukri blade), your Assassin Gauntlet, your outfits, and the color of your gear. On top of those options, Jacob will be able to choose from a variety of belts that will give him defense and stealth bonuses, while Evie has a selection of capes.

Will I be able to unlock every piece of gear just through the natural progression of the game?

There are a couple pieces of gear that are exclusive Ubisoft Club rewards, but all you’ll have to do to access them is link your game to your Uplay account.

How do the skill trees work?

Skills are broken into three categories: Stealth, Combat and Ecosystem. Stealth and Combat skills include combo boosts, Lockpicking and health upgrades. Ecosystem skills will revolve around the world and affect things like Eagle Vision, carriages and your Rooks.

Do Jacob and Evie have unique skills?

Yes! While Jacob’s focus on combat and brute strength, Evie’s are all about stealth. That said, both Assassins are perfectly capable of handling themselves in either stealth situations or all-out brawls.

Jacob’s Unique Skills:

Gunslinger II – Jacob and Evie are both skilled with their guns, but with the Gunslinger II skill, all of Jacob’s Countershots are automatic headshots.

Defense III – Both Jacob and Evie are good at defending themselves (both can unlock Defense I, which decreases damage taken from melee hits, and Defense II, which decreases damage taken from ranged hits) but when you unlock the Defense III skill, Jacob will take much less damage overall.

Mutilate II – An upgrade on the Mutilate skill (which both twins have access to), Mutilate II helps Jacob bring his enemies into a near death state much more quickly. This is especially helpful when setting up brutal multi-kills.

Evie’s Unique Skills:

Chameleon – Evie is a master of blending in with her environment. While in Sneak Mode, she will be nearly undetectable when she stands completely still. Only enemies very close to her will be able to spot her.

Knife Master II – Both twins can unlock the Knife Master I skill, but only Evie can take it to the next level. She will be able to carry twice as many throwing knives, and they will inflict quite a bit more damage.

Stealth III – The final level of Stealth (both twins can access Stealth I and II), Stealth III increases Evie’s Stealth stat by an additional 11. She is far less likely to be detected and everything she does – including assassinations – make very little noise.

Why does Evie look see-through when she’s using her Chameleon skill?

This is actually for the benefit of the Animus user. While holding still, Evie doesn’t actually become invisible, but she will appear as such to let you know she is, in fact, blending.
