#bsadrabbles DECADES 1990s
This is my entry for the monthly BoruSara drabbles September edition hosted on twitter by @/vegebul_soup
Prompt: Decades 1990s
Word count: 568 words
Fluff
Please read below ⬇
Over the years Sarada grew up she had felt a great distaste towards her father. She didn’t know what she was the most upset by - the rumors he was a traitor to the state, that he in the end escaped the state police and left her, or the fact he might still be alive somewhere else in a place he claimed was freedom.
She knew no details of the past, nothing of the claimed traitorous things her grandparents had scoffed to her the one time she had dared to ask of what her mother refused to talk about. She could only feel a bitter taste towards a man who had dared to ruin what she had grown to care deeply for.
While annoyed muttering during the hours long queues to gain access to basic goods could easily be heard every day by citizens who were sour towards the government, Sarada dove deep into the opposite of what her father had had - trust. She needed to trust that the government only wanted their best and she proudly inhaled state-proved media to find solace in trust. Eyes must be shut and ears must be closed whenever she heard someone too loudly criticize what she needed to find meaning in her life.
“What do you want to do?” The question was rhetorical as she had played with Boruto’s hand under the yellow light of a single light bulb above her bed. She looked up at her boyfriend. Maybe the question hadn’t been as rhetorical as she thought.
“What do you mean?”
“When you’re done studying,” Boruto continued, his eyes focusing on her hands.
“Work,” she said. “Won’t you?”
“Yeah,” Boruto said. “Maybe abroad. Now that the borders aren’t shut anymore.”
Sarada froze.
“Are you going to leave?” she asked, almost panicking. The idea of what she saw as a protecting place, a state only wanting to keep the citizens safe, was crumbling for each new newspaper that arrived, when new information kept seeping into her worldview.
“We have the chance now, don’t we?” Boruto’s smile was wide. “Don’t you want to see the rest of the world?”
Sarada bit her lips together.
“We can get Coca Cola here too,” she said. Boruto chuckled.
“Funny you would mention that,” he said. “I got some with me. Thought to surprise you, ya know.”
Sarada cocked an eyebrow.
“We could get Coca Cola from your dad before too,” she said. “Plus, what’s the deal with Coca Cola even? It’s not even better than our local soda.”
“I got this from the store,” Boruto said lightheartedly after reaching down to his backpack and taking a warm glass bottle from it. “Without queueing.”
He opened the bottle and reached it over to Sarada.
“It’s warm,” she said, but her voice didn’t carry a single hint of disgust. If anything, the weak smile on her lips hinted that she thought the notion was sweet. Even if she thought their own soda was tastier, even if she thought warm Coca Cola didn’t even taste well, even if Boruto was a sweet fool for dreaming of moving abroad after a few rioting and weird years when governments, walls and borders fell.
Sarada brought the bottle to her mouth and started drinking the warm liquid.
“Everything will be alright, won’t it?” she asked into the ugly light of the lamp.
“Of course it will,” Boruto said. “Of course it will.”

Hi!
It’s very weird to write a post here after so long. However, there are a few updates to make!
I’m very active and post writing progress on Twitter (X):
So I’ll use Tumblr as a place to share/gather the news about my fics in a longer format:
Already existing BoruSara fics:
First of all, Gambler of Feelings is now a completed story! The ending is written + published. Now that I’ve gotten better at writing in English, I’m aware the first chapters are rough. Hopefully the ending will make up for it. 💜
Toy’s Maker wish is another BoruSara story I completed. It has only 6 chapters, but it helped in my growth as a writer!
Equal Standing was initially a BoruSara story that was meant to be OneShot. Now, it turned into a short series that has both BoruSara + KawaSumi OneShots. It won’t be going on for long. I do have fun with it, though.
Already existing KawaSumi fics:
Those are perhaps the most recent fanfics I’ve written, since they were for KawaSumi week this year. Please, check them out!
Future Stories:
I’ve two big multi-chapt projects, I’m working on. First is the KawaSumi Office AU — The Convenient Attachment. This is a fic I already fully outlined and I’m in the process of writing chapter drafts. I’ll start posting it weekly once I’ve chapters in reserve.
Second one is BoruSara rivals to lover Badminton AU I came up with two days ago. This is a project that exist mostly as concept and I need to write an outline for. The intention is to do the same as for TCA — build up chapter reserves and post it weekly.
Who knows? Maybe I’ll start posting both fics at around same time?! I do heavily work on them behind the scenes. Fics that were on hold/resumed:
My old KawaBoru fic is on the way to be completed with daily updates! That being said, my head is filled with BoruSara + KawaSumi, so it’s unlikely I’ll write anything related to KawaBoru in the future. I just don’t like my fics being unfinished.
Out of all fics I put on hold, my ShikaTema Flying Fan lessons, then SasuSaku fic the Spotlight Affair will be finished next. The chapter count might change to be shorter for both, since it was while where I touched those stories.

Hellooo! 💕
Is your patreon still up?
I was a subscriber for 5 months and had a lot of the chapters from LIA, LYU and SF saved as offline pages but due to a recent glitch, I lost all my data 😭💔
Any chance they could come back? 🥺
Hey there, darling!
Thank you so much for previously supporting 🥺💖
That’s a lot of fics to reupload and unfortunately I’ve been really busy with life. I am, however, slowly uploading Eclipse. Once that finishes, let’s see if I can upload the rest.
Thank you!!

Flowers
Guys! My first KawaSumi fic! I'm so excited! (I know there's a lot of BoruSara there, sorry 🫣🫣)
Day 1 - prompt: flowers #kawasumiweek2024
You only need one. Quit being an idiot.
Kawaki shifted uncomfortably, eyeing, for the eleventh time, the flower arrangments displayed on the pavement, two streets away from his apartment. All of them seemed nice, he debated. But what did he know about what was nice? Why didn't he listen when Inojin was saying what was the most important thing when making a bouquet? What if he picked one and Sumire didn't like it? Or she thought it was... he didn't even know what was the worst thing you could say about a flower arrangement. Distasteful?
"What's it gonna be, young man?" sighed the older woman. He initially refused her help, thinking he'd pick one and be done with it. Why didn't he think this through? Why did the only time he went into a problem unprepared have to be this one? To make things worse, no one was forcing him to bring her a bouquet. No. He had inflicted this misery upon himself.
"Why don't you tell me who this is for? Your girl?"
"She's not my girl," he snapped without meaning to. The woman shot him a glare and opened her mouth most likely to tell him to get lost, but as he was currently her only customer, she decided against it.
"Is she your mother? Your sister?" she tried again.
Kawaki made a face. "Heavens, no."
"Well, then?"
Kawaki shifted his weight again. The woman narrowed her eyes.
"Are you quite sure she's a she?"
"I am," said a female voice behind him. A woman he had hoped to avoid today. "Hey, there," she greeted, tapping his shoulder briefly. Kawaki snorted as she leaned over the arrangments and said,
"We'll take this one."
"I don't need your assistance," he hissed. Now the flowers wouldn't be from him. They wouldn't mean anything. The older woman gave him an odd look for his harsh tone then turned to Sarada with an apologetic smile,
"Are you the lucky gal?"
"Oh, no," she laughed, "I'm his brother's girlfriend. Thank you," she took the bouquet into her hands while Kawaki paid.
"For future reference," Sarada said as soon as they turned the corner toward the apartment he shared with Boruto, "she prefers simple arrangements. Peonies, regardless of the color, but honestly, anything except roses would do."
"I know that," he clipped. A couple of years ago, Sumire slipped while helping Hinata in the garden, fell into a rose bush, and got a nasty infection and everlasting scar on her palm. Though she never officially swore off roses, she subtly steered clear of them.
"Give me those," he said when Sarada didn't hand over the flowers. She cast him a sideways glance. He thought he saw her smile, but if there was a smile on her lips, it was gone before he could be certain. Wordlessly, she gave him the bouquet.
"Weren't you supposed to come with ChoCho?"
There was an open-air cinema in Senju Park, and their friend group had agreed to meet there to watch the first Kagemasa movie, for old times' sake.
"Are you going?" Sumire had asked a few days prior. He hadn't intended to, but at that moment, for the same inexplicable reason he put himself through buying her flowers, he said, "Yeah." She smiled, warmer than the sun, and sank all hope for slipping away.
They hadn't officially agreed that he'd pick her up, but she briefly mentioned when she'd be leaving her apartment. He decided he'd just give her the flowers and hope she'd propose they go together. If not, he could always say Boruto was waiting for him.
"She dumped me for Mitsuki and Boruto said you'd be picking up Sumire, so we thought we'd hang out beforehand," Sarada said, pulling him out of his daydreaming. He cringed, having a pretty good idea what their "hanging out" looked like.
The moment they entered the front door, he took off his shoes and went to look around for the vase Hinata gave them as a gift for moving in. He almost collided with Boruto who was just leaving the kitchen with a cup of coffee.
He made a noise of surprise, lifting the bouquet above his head so it wouldn't be smashed between them. Boruto only had time to jerk away, which caused him to spill half of his coffee on his T-shirt. He swore loudly.
"Watch where you're going," Kawaki said at the same time Sarada gasped, "Are you all right?"
"What happened?" asked a third voice from the kitchen. Kawaki froze, flowers still up in the air when Sumire peered out at them.
"You're here," she smiled.
"Of course he is," Boruto said enthusiastically as Sarada took the half-empty glass from his hand and started dabbing at his front with a paper tissue from her bag.
"He just ran down to get you some flowers," she supplied.
Kawaki couldn't move. He could feel his ears warming up and knew they'd turn an embarrassing shade of red soon enough. He didn't know what to do. He wasn't prepared for this scenario. She was supposed to be in her apartment. Gulping, he took a step back. He saw Sarada dragging away the snickering Boruto from the corner of his eye.
"Oh, those are for me?" Sumire asked quietly.
He nodded mutely, slowly lowering his arms. She took a tentative step toward him and he forced himself to stay in place, handing her the flowers.
"They're beautiful," she breathed. "Thank you."
Hers was the most beautiful smile on Earth. She was the most beautiful woman on Earth. And that gentle smile that radiated happiness in its purest form - there was so little he wouldn't do to earn it.
She looked up at him expectantly, then around the room. He shifted his weight, figuring he should probably say something.
"I - uh - I thought - I didn't - I mean, I was going to... drop by your place."
Sumire blinked at him. Kawaki had a feeling he said something wrong.
"I mean, I'm glad you're - it's nice you're... here," he struggled, "I just thought -"
"Sarada said the four of us were meeting here," Sumire frowned faintly. "You didn't know?"
Kawaki felt like he would collapse on the spot from stress. He felt like someone pushed him out onto the stage with all the lights pointing at him and he didn't know a single line.
"Nonsense! He was the one who suggested it!" Boruto said, opening the door to his room and rejoining them, now in a clean T-shirt. That sneaky bastard, Kawaki thought. And his sneaky Uchiha witch, who just came out of Boruto's room looking flushed and slightly disheveled.
"Sarada was going to come over anyway and Kawaki said, Why don't we tell Sumire to come as well?" Boruto continued in a relaxed, conversational manner. Sarada was discreetly shaking her head to tell him to shut up, but he wasn't looking at her.
"And Sarada and I thought it was a great idea. I mean, how often do we really find the time to hang out together, all of us?"
"Right," Sumire agreed, not entirely convinced. She cast an odd look at Sarada, who shrugged with resignation. There was a moment of awkward silence. Kawaki had had enough.
"Let's go out, you and me," he told Sumire. "The two of them can stay here and do - whatever it is they were doing till now."
Sumire seemed surprised for a moment, then her face brightened. She smiled, "Sure."
Oh, that smile.
As she put on her shoes, Kawaki turned to Boruto and Sarada and silently ran the tip of his finger across his throat and made a circular later motion.
"I hope you guys don't mind," Sumire said.
"Not at all," Boruto grinned. "We love it!"
Sarada looked ready to strangle him. Kawaki was ready to strangle them both. Sumire seemed oddly happy about the entire situation.
"Should we go back to my apartment so I can put these in a vase?" she asked, slipping her hand into Kawaki's before he had a chance to react. The feeling sent a pleasant tingle through his entire body and he smiled involuntarily, hoping no one saw it.
"Sure," he whispered, not trusting his voice to form a longer sentence. Frankly, at this moment he would have agreed to anything. Take me to the Moon - done. Spend three days choosing a flower for me - done. Go to a social event and talk to people for me - done, done, done. But for the love of everything good in this world, he thought as his heart thundered against his ribcage, don't let go of me.
He squeezed her hand properly, so that his hand wouldn't be loose around hers, and was rewarded as she ran a thumb over the back of his hand. Kawaki thought his face would melt from the heat.
"I have to apologize for the confusion," she said as soon as the front door closed behind them.
"It is partly my fault, you see."
"I don't see how any of that could have been your fault," Kawaki grumbled, glad to be distracted from the fact that he was systematically melting away.
"Well, Boruto told -"
"Boruto needs to keep his mouth shut," Kawaki snapped and instantly regretted it. "Sorry."
"It's all right. As I said, Boruto told Sarada that - well, uh, it might not have been true, of course -"
"What did he say?"
Sumire didn't respond right away.
"She said that he said you wouldcomepickmeup," she blushed. "And I panicked. So Sarada offered -"
Kawaki halted, letting go of her hand, ready to turn on his heel, kill his brother and Sarada, and bury himself from embarrassment. His first instinct was to deny everything, but he remembered he had already admitted it earlier.
"I'm sorry," he said defensively. "I didn't mean to upset you, I'll-"
"I wasn't upset," Sumire said calmly. "I just panicked. That's different. That's... I wasn't upset," she said again. "I wouldn't be here with you now if I were upset."
Now it was Kawaki's turn to blush.
"But Sarada was right to tell me. When you know something like that, you always give the other girl a way out, just in case."
"I wouldn't have forced you to go with me," he muttered, his blush deepening.
"I know," she smiled.
"Is that your girl code or something?" Kawaki sighed.
"It's an unwritten rule. Though the execution did turn out a tad clumsy," she chuckled. Kawaki couldn't help smiling as well. They resumed walking.
"In fact, the entire interaction back in the apartment was so silly I realized I had nothing to panic about," she said carefully. "It's just us."
Kawaki was positively astounded at how simple and rational it all was. Just us. His two new favorite words. Just us. He let the back of his fingers touch the back of her hand in a silent question, and to his immense relief, she took his hand. Just us. He made a mental note to buy her flowers again soon.

I didn't see naruto's ship war and came to the fandom already when all the canonical pairs were presented, I immediately knew that naruhina would be a canon and I was happy about it because I was a fan of them. Now in boruto I see how borusumi are fighting with borusara, I like borusumi but I think I pay too much attention to this, ship war are hurting me so mutch, may you know that feeling
Then you are lucky I have been in the fandom since the start and have seen the ship wars lit the while fandom on fire.
I know the feeling well when first did NaruHina fics it was followed by hate comments by NaruSaku first thing. I mostly keep away from the conflicts I will reply to my asks maybe reblog to correct some misinformation, but I stay off Youtube and Twitter when it comes to Naruto.

Hello, it's me again, anon from this question: "What happened to your BoruSara fanfics? I want to see them again". What I meant by that question is that I saw that some of your fanfics related to BoruSara has been deleted, I like those fanfics that you did in the past, why did you delete them?
Hi! So sorry for the delayed reply. I am no longer as frequently checking up on my blog as earlier. To answer your question, it is because (presuming that I am able to pinpoint which fanfics you are talking about) they were NSFW but also stood on slippery grounds of consent. I had only published barely 2-3 of the explicitly NSFW BoruSara works that I had ever written and even then, I felt uncomfortable that it would remain there. I am in the professional sphere now and while it is not quite possible for someone I know personally to come across my blog (let alone those fanfics), I am still not quite comfortable enough to let them be here. So, I removed them. I am genuinely thankful that you liked my fics but seriously, those aren't stuff that I prefer to leave unattended in the public sphere.

FIRST UPDATE
So. Fifteen chapters are written and posted, I’m currently… less than 100 words into chapter 16 (sorry). I’m about to start my mocks, so revision comes first and this comes way way waaaaaay behind my list of things, so posting might go down to once a week I’m afraid.
Been getting some positive feedback though, and I’m so glad everyone’s enjoying it!
And because I’m guessing it’ll come up soon, there probably won’t be romantic relationships in the fic (other than canon Naruto ones e.g. naruhina sasusaku shikatema). I want to focus purely on platonic friendships (also I suck at romance). I might improve, so this could change, but don’t get your hopes up.
Additionally, as much as I like BoruSara, I also have a penchant for the rarepair ShikaBoru. So that could make an appearance. Or they might just stay as platonic soulmates. I dunno yet.

All roads lead to you. —BoruSara.
Hello, it's been years since i wrote anything borusara related but i've been in the mood lately and wanted to get this out of my system. Enjoy my small drabble and i may write more in the future. ♥️
Boruto and Sarada had a silent agreement.
No cheesy love confesions, no big romantic scenes were needed between them, their bond slowly developed through the years from childhood friends to rivals to teammates, they basically trusted each other with their lives. Just one look was enough to understand what the other was saying or feeling, that's how close they were.
Hence why they never needed all the fireworks and flying to the moon to know their hearts were one. Besides, they were fighting literal gods and avoiding death and destruction since they were 13, the day didn't have enough hours to spare sometime and go on a date like any other people in love do, so they realized about the depth of their feelings at a very slow pace.
They've been together since babies, both very used to each presence as they were used to see the sun in the sky everyday.
People may wonder when everything changed, that's an easy answer, Boruto could say, after the Momoshiki invasion, when he realized his life goal was to support Sarada as a Hokage and protect her. Of course, he wanted to be like Sasuke, a free spirit roaming around but always helping the village on his own way, however, that would be meaningless if the person in charge wasn't Sarada.
He has witnessed her determination to achieve her goals, all her efforts and late night training sessions just because she felt she didn't give her 100% that day. She has helped him too, as a shoulder to lean on, someone to put him back on track if he got distracted.
He knew Sarada wanted him to be the best version of himself and that's why she called him out whenever he acted reckless, and although they often fought because of that, he knew it was coming from worry.
He had plenty of time to think about what Sarada meant to him the years they were separated, when Boruto left to train and control the new powers he had, but honestly, there wasn't much thinking needed when she was always his priority, heck, 13 year old Boruto knew he wanted to be with her as her support but it took him to be apart and miss her to understand he just didn't want to be a right hand man because she was her teammate and closest friend.
When he thought about his future all he could see was seeing Sarada everyday and bringing her lunch to the Hokage office because he would be damned if he allowed her to develop the same unhealthy habits of his old man, no sir, he was ready to prepare lunch for her everyday and make sure she rested well and was happy. You see, it is not normal to have these thoughts for your just friend, even if he was Mr. Oblivious he wasn't stupid.
Love is not an easy topic and he thought he should be more scared and worried about falling for her best friend, but that wasn't the case.
Falling in love with Sarada felt right, natural, as if it was always meant to be and he wouldn't want to fall for anyone else. A small voice in his head asked the important question "what if she doesn't love me back?", Boruto decided to brush it off and just wait to meet her again.
All those worries went away the moment he laid his eyes on her at the village gates. She waited for him all those years holding in her hand the small bolt necklace he gave her as a promise to see each other again, and the look she gave him was what gave her away. Midnight eyes full of sparkling stars and longing, but the only thing she said was "Welcome home".
He nodded and closed the distance between them with a warm hug whispering on her ear "I'm home now". It was crystal clear, the beating of their hearts matched as much as their souls.
Boruto's POV is so fun to write, lots of Sarada in that blondish head. Should i write my vision of Sarada's pov next? We'll see.

🔥 choosing violence🔥
17, 18, 21, 22, and 25
Choosing violence 😈
17 There should be more of this type of fic/art
Fics that are created based on an artwork. Very often in fic + art collabs the fic is created first and the art comes second, but I find a lot of power in creating fics from artwork - it tickles another side of the brain which does writers good. The result can be really amazing too!
Boruto era fics that take a definite stance away from the canon plot with aliens and create entirely new canonverse paths for the new gen kids. Basically writing a new shippuden for the kiddos without the Otsutsukis, Karas, cyborgs, aliens.
Adventure fics about Ino-Shika-Cho.
Real world AUs definitely not taking place in either Japan or USA.
For art: more Shikajin art thank you 🥰
18 it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...
For Boruto fandom that are into fandom creating: New gen ships that aren't BoruSara.
For Naruto fandom: Writing fics focusing on a not-Sakura female character and her motivations, alternatively equally in focus to her partner in case of an f/m ship.
21 part of canon you think is overhyped
The entirety of Jiraiya, except his froggus. The frogs are forgiven.
22 your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
Because I hardly believe many people ignores Shikamaru's badass murder, Temari killing Tayuya, Shikamaru breaking down in tears multiple times, Sand Sib flashbacks, "MY BLOOD, IT'S MY BLOOD", Gaara almost dying, Kankuro almost dying, Temari having panic over that etc I will say:
When Kiba stabbed himself in the Retrieval Arc 💙 I was a stan.
25 common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
"How everyone gets Kankuro wrong". I am over that, I've seen it too many times in a short span of time and I can't.
I take actively a stance away from all comparision of the female characters; who is "stronger", "more beautiful", "have more jobs", all kinds of power scaling in every damn social field. I think I'd kick the people behind those posts in the knees.
Thank you for asking me, huehuehue 💕💕

A Mirror Away (1)
When the clock strikes twelve, Sarada watches with bated breath as her reflection morphs and shows her an image of her soulmate. She doesn't know where he is or his name, but all she knows is she has to find him. On the other side of the world, Boruto was convinced that soulmates were overhyped. But that all changed when he was shown who was meant to be his other half.
(Patreon exclusive soulmate AU available for all tiers) Thank you for all your support for @kairi-chan and me!

A/N: A really small piece for BoruSara week 2019! I’m really excited, and this is like a small birthday present from me to me:)
Prompt: Day 5 - Little Moments
Genre: Fluff
Rating: K? or T? Idk but kiddies can read.
____________________________________________________________
Boruto is used to even the smallest touch of their skin together. Even if it’s her pinky tracing short paths on his thigh when she’s lost in her thoughts, or the way she brushes her hand on the back of his when they are in public to reassure her presence—as if he could take her out of his mind. He is very fond of the cold of her skin, of the way her soft caresses catch him off guard, and the way their hands fit together as if they were made for each other. He thinks so, though. They were born to be together.
She often sleeps with her head on his stomach and her left hand on his shoulder, while her right hand is always looking for his fingers to lace them together. He loves the way her lips tremble from time to time, her lashes trembling softly, and those deep sighs that send shivers through his body. He watches her sleep for a while before he joins her in slumber, for he doesn’t like to miss sight of her even if he dreams of her.
She likes him to lay on her lap to play with his hair when she’s working, maybe because his hair is soft and she likes to dig her fingers in his blond curls. She can be doing that for hours and never get tired of it, and she says it helps her to concentrate. He wonders, because he can’t keep his thoughts on track when she’s around; she takes so much of his mind and she doesn’t even try. Nevertheless, he enjoys to be there with her since she often hums for him when she notices he’s getting sleepy. He doesn’t notice that she traces the edges of his lips, or caresses his cheeks to feel the small of beard that threatens to come out when he doesn’t feel like shaving. She might not say it out loud, but she loves when he curls up and clings to her like a baby—she doesn’t mind the drool on her clothes either—and the way he whispers her name in his sleep. She also takes pictures of him to send to his mother and for her to keep.
He cooks for her most of the time since she’s not very skilled in the kitchen, however, she tries to surprise him with dinner when he comes home late, and he makes sure to let her know that he appreciates her trying , even if she makes a mess and they end up ordering something. He knows he’s the luckiest man in the world, for he doubts someone else would try so hard for him. He has so many flaws, but she accepts every single one of them and she doesn’t make him feel like he has to change for her. Sometimes, he thinks he’s dreaming and that she’s not real. How can someone as perfect as her could be with him? However, when he snaps out of it, he does his best to be just as perfect for her. He’s not aware that she’s the happiest just knowing that he’s alive, and she doesn’t ask for more. She never does.
Sarada cuts his hair when his bangs start to bother his sight. At first, she refused to do it in fear of messing it up, but he begged her for days, so one day, she found it really easy and she started to wait eagerly for when he needed a haircut. They both love those days; they put on some music and take a bath together afterwards. She would never admit it, but she often loses her breath at how handsome he looks. She wonders if he knows that she’s not the only head over heels for him.
All those moments are the ones that make them think that they did the right thing marrying each other. Of course, their wedding, their honeymoon and the first moment they stepped into their home as husband and wife won’t ever be able to compare; still, those little domestic moments are something else. Those make them think that what they have is real, and that they can be themselves around one another and they won’t be judged. They grow together, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I love you,” Boruto says when he hugs her tightly against his chest, like he does every night. “More than anything.”
Sarada smiles and nuzzles her head on his chest. “I know,” she whispers. “And I love you more.”
He giggles, because he thinks there’s no way no one would ever love someone as much as he loves her. Little does he know that she thinks exactly the same.

Sarada was standing in the doorway from the house to the patio, her eyes glancing up to the sky. The girl wore one of her favorite cozy sweaters of Boruto’s, leaving the door open so she could smell the rain and feel the cold night air in her face, trying to wash away her frustration.
He had done it for years now. The first time was on her 16th birthday, right after he asked her to be his girlfriend. It was just their thing now. Boruto usually was there to guide her, but she never needed his help. There wasn’t a single year she couldn’t find it.
But after six years together, he finally did it.
Boruto came up behind Sarada and wrapped his arms around her waist. His breath was uneven, so she knew his training today must have been a hard one. The Uzumaki rested his chin on his girlfriend’s shoulder and they both gazed up at the sky.
“Not as pretty as you,” Boruto whispered after a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky.
“I didn’t find it,” Sarada didn’t even bother to hide the frustration on her voice and it got worse when he let go of her to laugh.
“You didn- what?”
“I didn’t!” She threw her hands in the air and she knew it made her look like a kid throwing a tantrum.
“But Sarada… You always find it!”
“I knoooooooow.” Sarada pouted, completely frustrated. “Where is it?”
“I’m not telling you,” Boruto folded his arms against his chest, trying not to smile. “Of all gifts, Sarada. Seriously?”
“What happens if I don’t find it?”
“Uh, no clue,” Boruto looked away, staring at the storm right in front of them. “We never got this far before.”
“One clue.”
“No.”
“Just one.”
Sarada shot him a death glance. On her 16th birthday, Boruto hid her present and made her look for it in the house, it was a necklace with the Uchiha symbol and he hid it under her mattress. Next year, he disappeared with another gift and she found it behind his computer. Then, every single year, he would hide her presents and make her look for it.
She always found them.
“I put it in our bedroom,” he shrugged.
“Impossible. I looked everywhere. There’s not a single untouched spot in that room.”
Boruto smiled and shook his head. “What are the chances?” he murmured to the sky when another lightning appeared. One strike was always followed by the thunder, so he waited as the sound caught Sarada off guard, causing her to jump.
The Uzumaki boy chuckled and leaned in slightly so he could kiss his girlfriend’s temple, still pouting.
“Just tell me where it is!” She whined. “I give up okay? You won.”
He took one step forward, turning her so he could hug her from behind as both faced the sky. Boruto planted a slow kiss on her neck, as his hands traveled over his own sweater, but Sarada wasn’t having it.
“Boruto, I swea-”
She froze when she felt Boruto reaching out for something in the pocket of his jacket. It was a tiny black box and her heart skipped a beat. Or two. Or several.
“It was with you this whole time,” he said, turning her so she could face him.
More booms of grumbling thunder shined across the sky, but this time, both of them didn’t move. Her dark eyes were locked on the pocket in his hands, and she felt her mouth dry.
“I thought I would come home to a screaming Sarada. ‘How the hell do you propose to me without even being here, you idiot?’ or something like it,” he made the worst impression of her voice she had ever seen, but she couldn’t open her mouth to say anything.
“I didn’t want to do a corny speech. Feels like every single word isn’t enough to describe us, to describe you. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me and I didn’t want to mess it up by limiting it to a few words before asking you to spend the rest of your life with me…”
Boruto kneeled in front of her, and she was convinced she was about to die right there.
“But, since life wanted this way, I will just tell you I love you. I loved you in all possible manners a guy can love a woman. As friends, as partners, as soulmates. If I know how to love someone, you’re the reason why.”
Sarada barely noticed the tears running down her face. With the only strong source of light coming from the bolts, she could see his glittering eyes just for a few milliseconds before it turned dark again.
“So, Sarada Uchiha, do you-”
“YES!”
The girl threw her arms around him, pulling him into the tightest hug ever. She hid her face in the crook of his neck and cried like a baby, as he wrapped his arms around her, whispering ‘I love you’ softly.
It was a cold night, but Sarada was sure she never felt so warm inside.
She felt grateful for that moment. She felt grateful for every moment she got to spend with Boruto if she was being honest, but that one was just… Different. Complete. Something she didn’t know how bad she wanted until it happened. He didn’t do a big gesture in public, as people would probably assume Boruto Uzumaki would do, or he didn’t make it cliché.
It was simple and domestic and with a big storm as background noise.
Yet, she couldn’t think anything more perfect than that. Just a time to silently appreciate each other, their love and how far they’ve come.
And it was only the beginning.

hi! I came across one of your fics on FF called Functions and Feelings and was just wondering if you'd ever plan on finishing it. I binged it all and loved your writing <3 no pressure if you did decide to drop it, was just wondering cos it says it was last updated in 2021 and you only had 1 chap left 😭
Hey there, darling anon!
I’m so glad you stumbled on Functions and Feelings. That’s the fic that really got me to come back into fandom and really solidified my love for BoruSara! ^^
I do plan to finish it! I’ve lost count how many times I’ve opened the last chapter’s WIP, reread it, and wrote paragraphs, only to delete them because I simply wasn’t happy how I was bridging it to the ending that I want.
I already know how the ending will go, and even have commissioned art from Bente. A little spoiler is the header I currently have on my Twitter.
Thank you for bringing it up again. I guess I just need motivation to come back into writing as I’ve been in such a slump lately. But the BoruSara hug got my flames roaring back lol!
Lettuce sea if I can find a willing beta reader to help me through the last chapter. I’ve also been considering rewriting the whole Functions and Feelings, tbh. Put all the little one shots I had for it together in one cohesive timeline and adding some things here and there. I feel like my understanding plots and all that jazz has gotten better since I started ^^
Thank you for leaving me a kind message, anon. It makes me feel a little better knowing that I’m not forgotten in fandom and that people still enjoy my silly little fics 💖
Happy new year! 🎆
