POV: This takes place right at the beginning of the pre sequel. The reader gets separated from Jack.
Just a lil quicky from my archives. I've got a bit for this oc character written but its all in the setting of Tales From the Borderlands with my sweet Rhys
if you think you see mistakes, dont mind them pls
You hid out in Jack’s office when Dahl took over. It was the only place on Helios they couldn’t break into and you were thankful for that since they were killing Hyperion employees without batting an eye. “Y/N, are you okay?” You heard Jack in your ear and you let out a sigh of relief.
“Yeah I’m okay. I made it to your office in one piece.” You reassured him.
“Okay good. But you can’t stay there.” He sounded out of breath then he was talking to someone. “Great, you must be the new vault hunters I hired. I’m Jack.” He greeted other people.
“You hired vault hunters?” You asked, unsure how they were supposed to help with Dahl taking over Helios.
“We need the extra muscle.” He defended, then you heard him getting shot at and your connection went dead. Desperate to get to him, you ran to the fast travel machine. But you knew if you turned it on you risked getting killed and the office getting taken over, plus you had no idea where he even was. So you headed to the front of the office. The CL4P-TP units were pounding away on their computers and paid no mind to you whatsoever. You peaked out of the front door of the office and saw a few Dahl near the middle of the expansive room setting up barriers and placing ammo boxes everywhere. You didn’t stay in view long before you moved back towards the fast travel machine.
“Babe. Y/N. Are you still there?” Jack’s voice was out of breath but he was coming through loud and clear just as you started heading towards the fast travel.
“Are you alright?” You asked, trying to stay as calm as possible.
“Yeah, I’m good. I’ve got the vault hunters with me. We’re making our way to the moonshot terminal. I locked the office up so you’re safe there.” His breath was shaky like he was running.
“I’m heading to the fast travel. I’ll meet you there. I can shut it down remotely when I reach you.” You were anxious to get back to him. For a few seconds he didn’t protest. It was like he was processing what you had said to him before he flat out told you no.
“No way, princess. If they get to you, or manage to get into that office?” He trailed off but it was too late you had already left for the receiving bay. When you got there you could hear the shots being fired and you quickly worked to lock his office back up. It didn’t take long for you to finish and when you had you could hear one of the moonshot cannons coming up. It was after it opened you saw a small group of people step out.
“You must be the vault hunters.” You let out a sigh of relief when you realized they weren’t Dahl soldiers. But then you got worried. “Where’s Jack?” You asked, even you could hear the panic in your voice.
“He’s down there. The lift wouldn’t work so he sent us up to dislodge whatever is in it.” A taller man with what seemed to be cyber parts answered you.
You walked over to the lift to see half of a loader bot jammed in it. After a few good, swift kicks you finally got it out and watched the lift descend to get Jack. Waiting, somewhat patiently for it to come back up, you completely ignored the vault hunters around you who had been looting everything in sight. When he finally made it to the top you couldn’t even wait for him to exit the lift before running over and wrapping your arms around him. “I thought I told you to stay in the office?” He sounded amused instead of the angry you thought he would be. “And miss all the fun?” You didn’t let him go, but held him out in front of you. You heard the small mechanical cough from the CL4P-TP unit so Jack moved your arms and went over to continue what he was doing before for you ignored his wishes and showed up. “This should get us all off the station.” He mumbled as he turned the power on, allowing them to get ammo from the dispenser.
“Hyperion Scum!” You heard a yell come from above you. “Right after you kill this guy!” Jack yelled from his position at the consol. You pulled out your pistol and fired a few shots, but so did the others. You weren’t sure who managed to get him with everyone shooting at once, but the Dahl soldier went down shortly after. You then moved back over to Jack, getting an uncomfortable vibe from the group of new comers. “Why did you hire them again?” You asked Jack as he worked. “You’ll see.” Was all he said as he continued to type out the commands for the moonshot. You watched on as he informed the Vault Hunters about the moonshot, then he looked over to you and nodded his head towards the entrance. “What?” You asked, knowing full well he wanted you to get in with them but that wasn’t going to happen. “Babe, please.” Jack sounded desperate. “Fuck that. No. There’s no way I’m getting in that before you.” You put your foot down.
“Someone has to send it.” He knew he wasn’t going to be able to go with you. Then you heard the Dahl soldiers getting closer. “Y/N, get in.” He yelled and you listened. “I’ll meet you down there.” He called before shutting the doors so you were trapped with the vault hunters. The little Claptrap unit was the only one you actually felt you could get along with. The others all looked, like they wouldn’t be fans of you. So you sat in the back of the moonshot as it made its descent. You could feel the container speeding up and you had a horrible feeling that the landing would not be fun. You moved from the corner to the middle and noticed the eyes of the other passengers, some small nods, then they followed suit. The little robot didn’t quite get it at first, but did as everyone else did.
The landing was more of a crash, and it was rough. When you snapped out of your daze you heard a female’s voice call through to the inside of the container. “You alive in there?” Her accent was thick.
“Yeah, we’re all good.” The woman wearing the cowboy hat called back. “Great. Now when you open the door, you’re going to want to hold your breath so we can get ya to an O2 station.” She called. Then the tiny robot immediately opened the container. The vacuum taking the door abruptly into space. “Hurry now.” The woman from before called, she ran back towards where you assumed she had come from and you all quickly followed her.
You felt like your lungs were going to explode. Mentally pleading that the O2 station was nearby. You could see from the corner of your eye that everyone else was struggling too, except the Claptrap unit. What you wouldn’t give to be a robot right now. “We’re almost there.” You could hear the woman call from ahead of you, and you could see a large building, hoping that was the one she was taking you to.
When you finally reached an oxygen filled environment you took in the largest breath you had ever taken before. The pain in your chest was still there and your head was pounding, but you were breathing. “I’m Janey Springs.” She finally introduced herself after saying a few things you couldn’t catch since you were more focused on air. You felt some eyes on you, but ignored them while you gained your composure. The rest of the group was doing much better than you and had been talking with Springs. You were only here because of Jack anyway. You had no real mission except to get back to him and you had a feeling they were meant to do more.
You hung out with Janey as the Vault Hunters went and ran some errands for her. “So you’re not a Vault Hunter, you’re….” She trailed off waiting for an answer. “Hyperion.” You answered, leaving it at that. She didn’t prod, which you were grateful for.
It wasn’t long before the Vault Hunters came back with Oz kits. Wilhelm, the one with the cyber upgrades even brought you back one. “Thank you.” You nodded after he handed it to you, refraining from using any of the usual pet names since he did scare you slightly.
Everyone gathered in her main room, the large window overlooked the moon’s surface. It was quite beautiful and you managed to get lost in the scenery, completely ignoring the briefing Janey was giving about the next mission.

hey can we talk about how after angel accidentally kills her mother with a turret jack. continues to make her kill things. because. uhm.
#borderlands#angel borderlands#handsome jack#if his wifes death was so deeply traumatic for him to the point of total lockdown then WHY have her do it again? asshole?#“angel killed her mother so i had to hide her away. her powers are dangerous.“ to ”wait this is sick as hell. angel shoot that dog.“#its weird to me that this turret is hyperion though. grogmouth is a bandit. hes the one that kicked off jacks fixation in the first place.#but it must be his because it triggers the memory of angels mother being shot. so maybe grogmouth just stole it or something.#ask to tag#just in case#queue

Hi hi hi !! Can you do a scenario where chishiya's gn! s/o (who's normally sweet and sunshiney) finally snaps and cusses someone out or smth? I thought it would be p funny lmaosjsks (also unrelated but like who's ur txt bias)
i'm so obsessed with doctor chishiya you don't understand
pairing: chishiya x gn!reader (they/them pronouns used once) genre: fluff word count: 1.3k
warnings: not canon compliant, pretend this is before chishiya also starts sacrificing people ig ??, canon typical violence, death, cussing, i can't actually remember how arisu arisued his way out of this game so this could've actually gotten all of them killed lmao, i am incapable of writing fics if they don't end in a confession idk
a/n: thank you for requesting !! i couldn't really figure out how to make reader sweet so i just made them super cooperative (if that makes sense lmao) i hope you like it !!
also i am a beomgyu stan at heart but kai has had a GRIP on me since cysm something in that studio choom fancam changed me idk
requests open !! read my rules first
a group of people are already awkwardly standing around when you approach the building. a ‘ding’ chimes as soon as you enter the doorway, confirming your participation. you grab one of the phones on the table and sign in before moving to lean against the wall. chishiya stands next to you, subtly judging the people around you.
“registration closed. game: dead or alive. difficulty: three of clubs,” the announcement begins. “rules: players must choose between two doors to exit the building. game clear: players exit the building safely within the time limit. game over: players enter the wrong room or run out of time.”
a clock hanging on the wall lights up with a timer counting down from two minutes. the people around you begin to panic.
“life or death?” a woman reads. she’s wearing an apron covered in flour, nervously looking around the room. “how do we know which one to choose?”
“just pick one,” a man argues. he’s in jeans and a stained shirt that reeks of alcohol, even in the borderlands. his words slur together a little. “we’re all gonna die anyways.”
“nobody has to die,” you interrupt. “we can work together to win this one. we still have one minute and forty seconds left.” you glance between the two doors. they both look the same- artwork printed on the top half of a door labeled either “life” or “death.”
“it’s life,” a man wearing a business suit says. his voice is deep and confident. there are no wrinkles or imperfections in his clothes though he looks tired. he peers at you through thick glasses perched on his nose.
a high school girl nervously runs towards the door, swinging it open and stepping inside. less than a second later, a laser shoots through the ceiling and her body falls to the ground. your body stiffens next to chishiya. you stare at her corpse in shock until he starts pulling your arm, shoving you through the death door and slamming it shut behind himself. the room sets alight as soon as he does.
“why would you do that?” the woman wearing an apron yells. “she was just a kid!”
“these are death games,” the businessman apathetically responds. crooked fingers raise to push his glasses up, staring at you. “sacrifice is always necessary.”
“we’re running out of time,” a teenager mumbles. he still has a bike helmet strapped on. “we need to choose another door.”
time continues to tick down. panic engulfs the room. the woman nervously glances between the two doors before she closes her eyes, placing her hand on the handle of the life door and swinging it open. after a few seconds she lets out a relieved gasp. you’re quick to follow her out of the room, shutting the door behind you.
the next room looks exactly the same as the others. a gray room with two doors, one labeled ‘life’ and the other ‘death.’ the timer is becoming faster now.
“we should take turns choosing doors,” the woman suggests. “i picked the last one, it’s someone else’s turn.”
“that sounds fair, right?” the high school boy anxiously fiddles with the clasp of his helmet. he glances at the time before turning to you. “i think they should go.”
you flinch a little from the sudden suggestion but nod. “okay.” before you can leave to open a door chishiya pulls you back by your arm, leaning in to whisper in your ear.
“pick death.” he has no expression when you look at him but gives you a small nod towards the door. your hand shakes a little when you set it on the handle, swinging the door open and stepping into the room. after a few seconds of nothing happening, you let out a small sigh of relief.
“who goes next?” you ask, looking between the teenager and the businessman.
“your friend should go,” the businessman says. “he said something to you before you picked the door. what was it?”
“why does that matter?”
“he hasn’t said a word since we got here. for all we know, he could be a part of the games.” the woman shrinks back away from you at his words. you scoff.
“you really think whoever is running these games is sending in spies?”
“he’s right,” the teenager says, moving to the other side of the room next to the woman. “how do we know who you are?”
“we’re running out of time,” chishiya says. only thirty seconds remain on the timer. he grabs your hand, moving to the ‘life’ door and opening it. after a few uneventful seconds, the others rush into the room behind you.
“he’s gotten every single answer right,” the businessman argues. “how?”
chishiya sighs. “the building is shaped like a square. there’s one room in the middle and eight rooms surrounding it. the girl who opened the first door led to the room in the middle. if we stick to the edges of the building we’ll be able to complete the game.”
“how long have you known how to win?” the woman yells. “why did you let that girl die? how can we trust you?”
“i wasn’t sure until the second room.”
“if you’re so sure, then open the wrong door.” the businessman says. “if you’re right, then the middle room will have more than one door and we’ll be able to see inside.”
“are you a fucking idiot?” the words leave your mouth before you realize what they are, only spurred on by the anger coursing through you. “seriously, who do you think you are? you’ve done nothing but guess your way through the game and now that we have a strategy you’re complaining about the plan working? shut up and listen for once. he’s saving your lives!”
you take a breath to calm yourself, almost shrinking back to chishiya’s side. he glances over his shoulder at you, silently reaching over to take your hand into his. the group stares between you, chishiya, and the businessman but you ignore them. the warmth of chishiya’s hand in yours calms you.
“it has to be death,” he says, turning back to the group. “open the door.” nobody moves until you drag him with you to the door, swinging it open and entering the next room.
you follow chishiya through the rest of the rooms until you end up at the final room. “wait,” he pulls you back, next to his side. there are only ten seconds on the timer. “the ‘life’ door leads to the middle room but the ‘death’ one goes back to the original room.”
“the entrance and exit must be the same.” you rush to the door, quickly throwing it open and running out of the room. the fire barely misses you as it scorches the room, setting it alight in flames. you pant, leaning back against the wall of the original room.
your phone chimes in your pocket. “game cleared. congratulations.”
chishiya’s hand remains in yours, leading you out of the building. the cool night air feels good against your skin. he squeezes your hand, letting himself slightly relax. “thank you,” he whispers. “for standing up for me. for trusting me.”
you nod, pulling him into a hug. chishiya stiffens a little, awkwardly standing in front of you before hesitantly wrapping his arms around you. “of course i trust you. i love you.”
chishiya presses a kiss against your forehead, pulling you a little closer. “i love you too.”

♠️ "Scars don't make you a monster." ♠️
A/N: So, someone gave me this request via direct message and what should I say? I really do like this idea and I'm pretty happy about the fact that I can wrote about it! 🫶🏻
Characters: Niragi
POV: fem!reader ; Fluff
Warnings: Not given.
It's in the middle of the night. I have never been the person who has problems sleeping through the night. Even the biggest noises couldn't stop me from slumbering soundly. In summer, I can leave the windows open and listen to the buzzing and singing of the insects without a care in the world until I drift off into dreamland. Wind and weather don't stop me either. You could say that my body is able to adapt to all the conditions of my environment. So ... even now, when I realize in my sleep that something - more someone - is missing next to me.
I've noticed it all along. Even when I met Niragi again, I had the feeling that he had changed. Not in terms of his appearance- at least that was never the deciding factor for me. Admittedly, when I saw him again for the first time after the witch hunt, I was ... shocked. Because of several aspects. His scars - his burnt skin - was one thing, but seeing him again when I once thought he ... would no longer be with us, that was the crux of my reaction. That I drew in a startled breath. That I looked at him in shock and, of course, in tears, which I had swallowed at that moment. I was ... simply happy. To see that he was still alive.
Anyway, this is the first time I've had to open my eyes in the middle of the night because my body couldn't adapt to my surroundings during sleep. As soon as I went to bed, I had a feeling that something was wrong with Niragi. And it looks like I'm about to find out whether my gut feeling was right or not. Deep down, I already know the answer, but I want to hear it from him. I want him to tell me what's going on in his head right now. How he feels. What is bothering him. If something is bothering him.
Looking thoughtfully at my partner's side of the bed, I gradually start to move, hoping it won't take me long to find him. So, sighing and wearily brushing my hair out of my face, I get up and put one foot in front of the other to look for Niragi, who apparently hasn't even bothered to really hide.
"Niragi, what's wrong?" I rub one of my eyes sleepily and look just as sleepily at the boy standing on the balcony of the building where we've set up camp today. "Come back to bed, it's still pitch dark."
"I can sleep when I'm dead." It's not that I wouldn't expect him to say something like that- but what worries me is the way he says it.
Instead of saying anything, however, I just stand still for a moment and stare over at him. He doesn't even dare to turn towards me when we talk. I don't know him like this at all.
"I'm worried about you," you say in a calm tone as you walk towards him, aiming to stand next to him so you can look over the rooftops of the city with him. "Somehow I don't recognize you anymore," you continue, "where's the Niragi I met at the beach? The one with the big mouth and the high self-confidence, with the will of a leader?" Silence.
A moment later, all I hear is a hysterical giggle, which was obviously not the result of amusement or mirth. No, it sounded ... forced ... and hurt at the same time.
"He's been burned." Such a simple answer, but one with such great significance. "You should really go back to bed now."
"I'm not going anywhere." Determined, I now walk the last few meters towards him, after which I stand next to him. "Not without you." Unlike what I had planned, however, I don't stand so that I can see the loss, dark surroundings, but so that I am facing Niragi directly. "I knew something was wrong with you. I could tell by looking at you. Even yesterday, when you wished me a good night, your eyes betrayed you- so please don't pretend you don't care." Pause. "You are a human being. Not a robot."
"I'm a monster, Y/N!", he yelled at me and I jumped back a little because he turned around so suddenly and unexpectedly to finally look me in the face. "I can't even understand how you could even look at me on the street without throwing up right at my feet!" But just as quickly as he hit the ceiling, he quickly calmed down again.
I am sad. Is that really what he thinks? Does he really see himself as he has just described? As a monster? Oh, I'd love to ask what makes him think that, but I won't. I know the reason. His burns. The scars Chishiya left on him are the reason he speaks so poorly of himself. And it hurts. It hurts to know that a person in whom you see everything wonderful and whom you love for who he is, thinks of himself like that.
"Oh, darlin', that's not true ..." I realize how pitiful I'm looking at him right now, the softer his features become and the more he shows his mental pain to the outside world. "Please, don't say that ... Scars don't make you a monster."
"Just tell me how you can look at me like that without being afraid of me. How you ... how you can hold me in your arms without being disgusted by my skin. Without worrying about hurting me or feeling the need to puke your soul o-" I don't want to hear about that.
I understood the question. He wants answers? He'll get them. My way. The way in which I don't let him speak, but simply put one of my arms loosely around his neck to pull him into a loving kiss that for just a moment - a brief moment - is supposed to make the world stop for him.
Something that seems to work well. At least he abruptly matches my rhythm and wraps his arms around my waist to press me closer to him. To be able to feel me even better. To feel that he is not alone. Will not be alone. And to feel that there is someone who can be there for him and wants to be there.
I ... have to admit that no kiss with him was as beautiful as this one. Niragi is a rough person. He gets what he wants, his kisses were molded to his personality. Ungentle. Lots of tongue and especially biting. All the more reason for me to enjoy the kiss we're sharing right now, because who knows if I will ever experience this again.
Nevertheless, you should stop where it gets most beautiful. Although the really nice part - for him - is probably only now. One answer. An answer that will answer all his questions in one fell swoop.
"I love you," I breathe to him, tilting my head a little to the side as I look up at him and into his eyes. "That's why I can do all this, Niragi, it ... It's not as complicated and complex as you might have thought." I gave him a little smile and I can see it in his face- he's smiling a little, too. "And now come back to bed. You need to rest a bit and give your injuries a treatment. And by the way ... I'm tired and want to go back to sleep." Laughter, which only comes from me, but that's okay- his smile is enough for me. "Plus, I'm in desperate need of a good cuddle from you right now." Now, I can hear him chuckle a little and damn, it's the most beautiful I could ever hear coming out from him.
After another peck on the lips from him, I take him by the hand and walk him back into the building, where a place to sleep is waiting for us. In passing, I hear him say "I don't deserve you ...", which was probably only meant for him. But ...
"If everyone only got what they deserved, they couldn't possibly be happy in their lives, don't you think?"
A/N: Damn, I enjoyed writing this so much. Thanks for you request, stygianoir! Hope you enjoyed reading it as well. 🙈♥️

⊹₊˚ʚ❛Masterlist❜ɞ
✶ ˖ ࣪ ਏ 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗬 𝗠𝗘𝗧 ਓ 🌨️ ۪ ♡ ۫
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ To be honest, the way they met was quite cliché. You have always been passionate about medicine and the first opportunity you had, you couldn't help but study this profession.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ You were always first in your high school class, so it was no different in college. Exemplary, punctual, polite, hardworking and, obviously, very smart. It didn't take long for you to complete your internship at a university hospital. To be clearer, because of your intelligence as a healthcare professional, she was one of the youngest students to do an internship.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ The first time he saw Chishiya was in the doctors' break room. You were interested because he was a pediatric cardiologist. You couldn't stop thinking about how a strong and mysterious man like him could deal with children so easily, especially in such critical states that most of his patients were in.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ It was difficult for you to engage in a conversation with him, as he felt more comfortable with patients than with his co-workers themselves. And it was even more surprising when he started a random topic with you when you coincidentally got coffee from the espresso machine at the same time.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ In his opinion, you were too dull for someone like him to get to you...but he proved the total opposite. Chishiya actually thought you were the most interesting in that place. A Brazilian exchange student who was able to stand out so brilliantly in that place. It was fascinating for him to see a woman a little younger than him be so bold and smart.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ It was always the same, an exchange of words when they were resting, an exchange of glances when they bumped into each other in the corridors. Until you, unexpectedly, asked for his number. This surprised both of them, but especially you. She was always so into herself, despite being smart, social issues weren't exactly her strong suit.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ Over time, you started going out, becoming more and more friends. Despite being opposites, you had more unusual than you thought. They were both determined in their goals and ambitions, they always help those they really care about, perhaps you more than him, but it is still a common topic.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ After 6 months of friendship, the familiarity and comfort between you only grew... and other feelings too. I couldn't deny it, initially neither of them had any romantic interest in each other, just admiration. But with time, you understand Chishiya and he loved the feeling of having someone who truly understood him and didn't judge him.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ He honestly didn't feel comfortable talking to anyone, but even though it wasn't common, you were the only one he felt safe opening up to without any fear. To him you were like an angel, always there to help him and sometimes he wondered if he was there in the same way for you.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ You were always very honest with your feelings so it wasn't a taboo for you. But you loved the way he treated you. You felt unique, special. And that was exactly what you were to him.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ You are definitely made for each other and can clearly be soulmates in living form. After a year of friendship, their feelings could no longer be hidden. They both knew they loved each other so it wasn't difficult to declare each other.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ It was so simple, but so special for you. They were happy to finally have a weekend off and decided to celebrate together. You usually went to your favorite restaurant, since he always let you choose, but this time they decided to just prepare a simple dinner together and then sit on their terrace to drink some wine while talking about trivial matters.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ His chair was very close to Chishiya's chair. Both were slightly drunk, you a little more, but the two of you weren't exactly sober. You placed your glass on the small white table that was in front of you. You adjusted your leg that was resting comfortably on Chishiya's thigh.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ You looked at each other for a while without saying anything. You knew that words didn't need to be described for this moment. A comfortable silence reigned between you, until it was broken with a statement from Chishiya. "You can." "What?" You asked calmly, but still confused. "You can do it, whatever you're thinking, I don't care." He said in his usual low and calm tone. "...same?" You said. "...same."
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ You wasted no time and approached, still calmly, his lips. At first it was a slow and deep peck, which deepened into a real kiss. Still with your lips connected, you climbed onto Chishiya's lap, overcome with emotion. He didn't complain, just squeezed her waist in confirmation, wishing more than ever that I could repeat this moment over and over again.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ You didn't know that this kiss could trigger such an admirable and true relationship between you.

𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ You merely remember the day you arrived together with Chishiya in Borderland. Maybe it was like a blur, but the only thing he remembers was that you were together. Chishiya merely felt guilty for joining you in this. He thought that, Maybe if you weren't with him, you wouldn't be in this horrible place knowing you could die at any moment. Of course, both he and you are too intelligent to die suddenly, but it's still an event.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ You were slightly scared by how much he closed himself off after entering Borderland. In fact, he was always a little closed off to people, but never to you. Now on the beach, he didn't treat you with so much affection in front of people. He didn’t treat you badly, but he wasn’t the affectionate type like he used to be.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ but he didn't behave like that because he doesn't love you anymore, but rather so that you wouldn't be an easy target if someone wanted to hurt you, for example, the Niragi or the militia itself. You understood him and only helped him when he needed it.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ He wasn't surprised when you did so well in games, both physical and rational. You were a great athlete in high school and that was one of the many reasons he didn't care about your death.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ A very important topic in your relationship is trust, which means you tell each other everything. Which led to his great disappointment when he betrayed Arisu and Usagi behind his back. He knew that you hate people who use others, or take advantage of the most innocent, so he didn't tell you anything about his plan.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ When the mess at Praia started, you were still fighting with him, which made him worried. The only thing he knew how to do was think about you. He thought that maybe because you were in such a delicate moment emotionally, you weren't reasoning correctly.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ After he found you and saw that you were okay, he became calmer. So he just dragged you along the beach to find a way to get out of there and to do that they knew they needed to act rationally and not just physically.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ After he explained that he took the letters just to see you well and free from that horrible place, you forgave him. Your relationship was finally stable, and even though you were worried about the picture cards, you were okay being together.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ After the chaos on the beach and the fact that you were separated from the rest of the group, you had many existential and anxiety crises. He helped you as much as he could with this, even more so when he realized that his support meant a lot to you.
𐐪♡︎₊˚ _ No matter where you were or what phase you went through, as long as you are well enough to finally get out of there together, you will be happy.

rhys strongfork x reader
9.1k words
“God, you’re the best,” Rhys says with a sigh. “Hey, you say the word and I’m here bossman. Anything you want or need, I’m on it. It’s the least I can do.” Zer0 eyes you from across the office. Or at least, you think he is. You’re still adjusting to the faceless mysterious thing that hangs around Rhys all the time. He probably still suspects you. Were you being suspicious? You suppose you’d gone out of your way to be especially good for Rhys and earn his favor. After all, if you had betrayed Maliwan to defect over to Atlas, what was to stop you from betraying Atlas as well? You didn’t exactly start here with a shiny clean record. But Rhys had been so kind and merciful, taking you in, giving you a decent position like this. You just want to express your gratitude anyway you can. Chances are his decision to let you into Atlas had saved your life. Thus, you figure you owe him every breath in your body. And a bagel. Anytime he wanted it. You don't think you'll ever repay your debt to him, and you don't think you want to either.
You think you could be happy here, at Atlas. And that's not something you imagined thinking about any one of the soul sucking greedy corporations that had their eyes on the planets in this system.
As you turn to walk out the room, attending to some other business you'd been assigned, Rhys's eyes follow you. Zer0's head tilts ever so slightly towards Rhys. He heaves a bit of a sigh, regarding the bagel on his desk. And you remembered the cream cheese he likes. He wonders if he's about to make a mistake. I mean, how could someone as nice as you possibly stab him in the back? He looks back up at Zer0, and the assassin just gives a curt nod.
Just do it. Gotta find out one way or another.
Rhys nods as well, before sinking down low into his chair and burying his face in his hands. If this is the right, smart thing to do, why does he feel so goddamn guilty about it? He finds himself wishing he was more like the other CEOs. Ruthless, calculating, business first, success first, able to actually watch their ass. Willing to do whatever it takes to hold onto that seat of power. But then he finds himself wondering how those men live like that, on the edge, suspicious of everyone, so sure death was seeking them out at every turn. It had to be miserable, right?
Meanwhile, you were making your way down a hall. Rhys said he'd wanted you to go check on the new maintenance guys and see how they were adjusting, and then report back to him personally. You don't mind having to run around headquarters all day, it's good exercise and you feel productive. It doesn't feel like he's just giving you busy work either, he's just having you act socially in his stead. The guy can't be in seven places at once, although you bet he wishes he was. He's never been a micromanaging type, but he is a bit of a chatterbox.
Suddenly, a firm hand grabs your shoulder, shoving you up against a wall. Momentarily, you're winded, gasping out, as the razor sharp tip of a sword presses lightly to the center of your throat. Zer0 suddenly appears out of thing air. Confusion is obvious on your face, but it's not enough to fool him so easily. Anyone, traitor or not, would have been shocked getting caught off guard like that.
"Talk," Zer0 commands. If it's not elaborate haikus, it's equally cryptic one word sentences.
You shift a little under his grip and his fingers tighten, to the point where you know he'll leave bruises. You wonder what the fuck is going on. Best communicate that.
"I don't...what the hell are you doing?" you ask, sounding less outraged and more afraid. Good, Zer0 can use that. It should make this all easier.
"You are still very new./ Where do your loyalties lie?/ Tell me the real truth."
Your brows furrow. "My...my loyalties?" you repeat back, a bit dumbfounded.
Are you being interrogated right now? Was Zer0 that suspicious of you this entire time? You couldn't get a read on the guy no matter what, even back when you'd first joined Atlas (at Rhys's own suggestion). You know it's his job to protect the CEO, and you figured he'd do it whether he was contracted or not, but what threat could you possibly pose to Rhys? You feel a bit stupid for not immediately jumping to your history--even if it had been months ago and the majority of the conflict and siege had settled, that didn't change how long you had worked for Maliwan before coming to Promothea. It didn't matter if it had been against your will to be sent here to fight, to die, for Maliwan's cause. All that mattered was that you had been initially taking orders from Katagawa Jr.
You take in a shaky breath, heart still racing in your chest. The sword point remains steady. It pricks at your skin, already warning you for taking such a long, rather suspicious silence. The visor hiding his face is blank. No stupid little emoticons, no text, just black. You can see your own terrified reflection in it. You don't know what to do other than to tell the truth, just like Zer0 had demanded. But what if he still didn't believe you? Doesn't matter. You come to realize you don't have a choice. You force your voice to be steady.
“I’m loyal to Rhys,” you say, jaw set. “I owe that man my life.” Rhys, not Atlas, Zer0 notes. He’s not sure how to feel about that yet. Slowly, he leans a little ways back. He steps away, giving you some personal space back. And the sword withdraws from your throat. Silently, Zer0 sheathes the sword over his shoulder, and the blade fades away into nothing. You know it will only be a few moments before he does the same. He lifts a gloved hand, holding up a stern finger. “Please do not forget/ I am always watching you/ do not fuck this up.” You know you could have not replied at all. You could have just looked away and let this nightmare of an interaction be over. But heart pounding in your chest, you can't help but give a response. “I won’t. Second chances don’t come around often.”
Zer0 regards you for a moment longer. Then, he vanishes. Creepy...you'll never get used to that. You take a moment to stand there, unsure if he's gone or if he's going to continue tailing you for longer, just to double check. All he'd be affirming is that you were telling the truth if he did that. You think about going straight back to Rhys's office and telling him what had just happened. But you remember he'd given you an assignment to do. As shitty as all this was...the least you can do is get that done before returning. Rhys should know Zer0 is suspicious of you. But he'd also asked about the new maintenance staff's adjustment, and that's important too when it comes to rebuilding and cleaning up some of the HQ.
A sigh leaves you before you resume the direction you'd initially been headed in. Lucky for you, the new maintenance guys seem pretty capable. It's not that you didn't trust Rhys's judgement in hiring (after all, he'd brought you on as some extra help), it's just...things had been hectic and desperate, and his priority had been to replace the former staff which had mysteriously vanished. Rhys said he knew nothing about it, and then mentioned there were no bodies, before promptly cutting off his ECHO device and never speaking of it again. None of your business, and frankly you're not nearly nosy enough to care.
You tried not to seem like your mind was elsewhere, still shaken from the encounter with Zer0. Instead, you politely smile and nod along to whatever the new guys are saying.
"Uh huh...well, good to see you guys are so eager to get started. The CEO decided to have some of the Crimson Lance join you guys as bodyguards. They'll make sure you're safe while you sweep headquarters, uh, no pun intended. Not all of Maliwan has been booted out yet."
They nod, murmuring their thanks.
"Great, the boys should be up here any minute. Feel free to mingle. Rhys wants the overall sweep done by about six. You can come back here and report the damages and body count to me and I'll pass it up to the big guy upstairs."
Rhys had always instructed you not to be too formal. He said it "ruined the vibe" he was going for. It was odd, you've never worked for a company that was purposefully attempt to maintain such a lax attitude. Especially right after an attempted invasion, takeover, and then additional total destruction attempt by Katagawa Jr. But if he said he wanted it done a certain way, you were going to make sure you adhered to his preference. The little voice in your head once again reminds you with a guilty twinge that it was the least you could do. It still felt weird to drop all the "sir"'s and formalities after years of having to do it at Maliwan.
You wonder if a company with that kind of hierarchy could last long against the other ruthless giants. With Hyperion gone, Dahl still getting back up on their feet from when Hyperion had initially come to power, there's once again a central power void waiting to be filled. Could Atlas actually do it? If Rhys could genuinely return Atlas to it's former glory, that would be incredible. You don't know if it's possible for mega corporations that primarily compete in the gun market to ever reach peaceful agreements, but you certainly believe Rhys might be able to pave the way to that new frontier.
Then again...he has his own shortcomings.
You hadn't known him long, at least, not before he became a CEO. But you're aware of his weaknesses. One of them, maybe being that his pet assassin slash bodyguard seemed to be allowed to free roam and terrorize whoever he wanted on a whim of suspicion...okay that one might have been a little personal. But, you've got the report and gave your little speech to the new maintenance team, so now you have time to go and talk to Rhys. You can communicate those feelings and hurt instead of letting it rot you inside, like you would have done at Maliwan. You still can't help but feel bitter, almost automatically in a bad mood whenever you're reminded of working for them...
Goddamn Zer0.
Of course it's not fair for you to be allowed to forget. Not with all the destruction and innocent lives Maliwan had cost Promethea. And you'd been on the payroll. You try not to fall too far into your own head as you turn away and head back to the elevator that ascended to Rhys's office. It's an uncomfortable wait, and an even worse silence. Usually, you stop to gaze a little at the massive aquariums lining the way to the CEO's office. But this is urgent.
Rhys looks up from his desk at you and smiles, although you feel like there's something...wrong.
You practice some restraint, and decide to give him that report on maintenance first.
"So yeah..."
Rhys pushes his chin into his hand. "I hope they don't find too much damage. I gotta be even more on top of it with the finances around here, what with how I'm gonna have to rebuild the city too. Or bodies," he gives a nervous laugh, "hope they find even less of those. Identifying, funerals, cremations, burials, finding the families, it gets pricey y'know?"
Right...that was the other thing about him. While he's not nearly as bad as the other CEO's you've heard about in your lifetime (you heard Handsome Jack was a total monster), Rhys can be a little callous at times. CEOs generally seem to have a disconnect between themselves and everyone else lower in the company. A special kind of corporate breed of lacking empathy that can be a bit disturbing. His isn't especially awful but...you worry. You hope he can keep himself on the right path.
At your lack of response, he shifts a little in his chair. "You...uh...are you alright, (Y/N)?" he suddenly asks.
Your eyes won't meet his. "Can we talk? Privately."
Rhys wonders if it's the smartest idea to grant that request. He knows Zer0 is in the office right now, being weird and invisible as usual. They're a great bodyguard, but Rhys sometimes feels a little nutty talking to thin air whenever Zer0 doesn't feel like uncloaking. The presence is usually comforting but...
You won't even look at him now? Uh oh...
Fix this, Rhys, fix this, come on... he tells himself.
"Yeah, totally, of course." He turns in his chair, to a corner he hopes Zer0 is in.
Sometimes they like to hang out near the bookshelves or the couch. He clears his throat. Zer0 promptly reappears on the opposite side of the room, prompting Rhys to embarrassedly swivel his chair the other way. Had the bodyguard been trying to make him look stupid in front of you on purpose? Anxiously, he goes to check your face for a reaction, to see you judging him, or amused, or...or still staring at a wall, away from him. His heart sinks a little.
"Just for a minute or two, Zer0," Rhys calls after him, having a feeling he won't be too far away.
"Later, bro," Zer0 replies, walking out the office, still keeping himself visible.
If the assassin wanted to he could easily cloak and sneak back in. Which Rhys sincerely hopes they don't. Even though Zer0 had reported back that you'd only reaffirmed your loyalties to him, Rhys knew they still didn't trust you completely. Which is...fair. Anyone can say anything if they're under enough pressure. And he's seen Zer0 work enough to know how terrifying the guy can be. As well as unpredictable. As much as Rhys trusts them, it always seems like they're thinking eight steps ahead...freaky.
Rhys returns his attention on you.
You give a soft exhale, like you're preparing to say something you don't want to. "Look, while I was going to get that update on maintenance, uhm..." Zer0 had attacked you, basically, was the truth. But you decide to play things safe. Maybe it's just a misunderstanding. God knows, Zer0 does his job incredibly well, and this is probably just part of it--you don't want Rhys suddenly not trusting his own bodyguard.
"I...ran into Zer0. Well, they ran into me, more like it, but, whatever. And he-"
Rhys interrupts you. “I’m sorry, (Y/N). I asked Zer0 to do that. I just had to be sure-“ Your eyes finally meet his. The crestfallen look descending on your face is heart wrenching. Like he'd just kicked a puppy in front of you or something. Rhys wonders if it wasn’t the right choice after all to ask Zer0 to check your loyalties, to make absolutely sure you could be trusted. But lord knows he wasn’t brave enough to do it, not scary enough to get the truth out of you like the assassin could. He also couldn’t bare the thought of pointing a weapon at you, whether you were a traitor or not. Ironic, considering he's in control of one of many powerful gun manufacturers. He just…he knows he has to be careful from now and into the future. The bigger Atlas gets, the more enemies he makes. The Maliwan invasion had been a very quick, brutal lesson in that. You try to hide the disappointment on your face. Your voice comes shaky.
He knew.
You suddenly feel very stupid for coming in here in the first place. You shouldn't have said anything at all. You should have just kept it to yourself and moved on with your life, with your job, with your career at Atlas. It would have ensured this awkward, sad, stupid conversation never had to take place. “Oh that’s…that’s okay I guess. I just thought…I mean you always told me the past is the past and it’s all behind me. That you didn’t care and that it was all behind me.” The hurt in your voice makes this so much harder for him. “I know, I know what I said,” Rhys said, looking stressed. He runs a hand through his hair. There's some gray streaks already beginning to form. Embarrassing considering he's only in his thirties. “But…I needed to be sure.”
Even though he knows this was all for his own safety, and this whole test was initially Zer0’s idea to begin with, Rhys feels bad. Like, really bad. He still gave his bodyguard the go ahead. He scratches at his mustache momentarily, trying to think of how he could… “I understand, Rhys” you say a bit softly. He notices that there's tears beginning to form in your eyes. He starts to talk again, but you cut him off. “No, I really get it. I mean…only a few months ago I was basically under Katagawa Jr.'s thumb. You don’t have any reason to really trust me. Not yet, anyways.” Bitter but true. And an insecurity that’d always clouded your mind at night before you fell asleep. Sometimes you still had nightmares of bullets flying past your head and people screaming and dying around you. But you’d always wake up, knowing things were different now. That instead of racing to the training field, you just had to race downtown to grab some coffee or froyo or a bagel or whatever the hell Rhys wanted that day before work. That Rhys was different, that Atlas was different from Maliwan. He’d promised you that you’d never have to hold a gun again— once again, ironic as Atlas is still another soulless weapons manufacturer. But Rhys had promised and that’d been good enough for you.
Rhys looked even more uncomfortable now. He wears his emotions on his face. Something your former, much more homicidal boss never did. You don't consider that one of his weaknesses at all. “But I do trust you,” he insists, “I mean— I sent Zer0, but it’s -it’s, God, it’s complicated. I trust you so much I had to just see if that trust was for real, does that make sense?” It really doesn’t. If he trusted you there’d be no reason to suspect you in the first place, in your opinion. It hurts. He sees that little heartbroken look on your face still isn’t gone, even after his super smooth save. The tears are still gathering in your eyes and you still won't look at him. If he can't fix this, it's gonna drive him up the wall for the rest of the day. “Y’know what? Dinner.” He claps his hands together, grabbing your attention with another awkward laugh and you swear you see a flush creeping up his neck. “Yeah, let’s do dinner. On me. Food fixes everything, right? Best way to say 'sorry' ever.”
Could food fix a complete lapse in trust caused by his paranoia? He looks so earnestly at you, fingers still clasped together, almost like he’s begging you to say yes. Begging you to move past this with him and forgive this slight. Why not say yes? It couldn’t hurt. And it seems like it’s gonna make him feel way better than you would. Under any other circumstance you’d shoot this down. It's unprofessional to go out with your boss. It's wrong. It's not right to let him pay for your food. It's not rational to...to... The look on his face…he really does seem apologetic. You remind yourself that a boss like him is a rare thing during these times. You remind yourself that if there’s no Atlas, you’d be forced back to Maliwan or forced to try and make it on your own. Neither of those are options. You must have been thinking for a long time, because Rhys clears his throat and stands up from his desk. He approaches you, like he wants you to believe he trusts you not to snap and murder him. Because, hey, you used to be Maliwan, and that's all that you'd ever be to him-
“It’ll be super cas, no pressure at all,” he says, with another nervous breath of air, interrupting your rather horrible train of thought. “Uh, like a ‘yayy you’re not here to kill me’ thing.” “Alright. That sounds nice.” You smile at him but he feels like it’s not one of your real ones. It doesn't match the look in your glassy eyes. Was he shoving this onto you too fast?
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to, I just wanna make it up to you-“ “Rhys,” you say, and he stops. “It’s okay. We’re cool.” You hold out a hand for him to take, in spite of your racing thoughts. He does, giving you a firm squeeze. His hands are always so warm. He lets go after a brief moment. He takes a moment to fix his tie, which only skews it worse. You have to sometimes wonder how a guy like him holds a position like this one, much less built the formerly dead company up all on his own. “I’ll pick you up at six, okay?” He says, and you nod.
“But the maintenance team," you start and Rhys puts his head in his hand.
"Right...right. Uh...seveenn?" he tries again.
To his relief, you give another validating nod that didn't make him feel as stupid and dumb as he felt initially. "Can I ask where we’re going?” “Nuh uh. Ruins my surprise. You gotta tr-“ He pauses. “Uh you’ll like it, okay?” You give a light, exasperated shake of your head. Rhys breathes a sigh of relief at the bit of playfulness and the tiniest smile on your face. Seven gives you enough time to get that report to Rhys and go home for a few minutes. But until then, you have a slew of other shit to busy yourself with that Zer0's approach had totally distracted you from. The least you could do was throw yourself into your work for the rest of the day. There are some times where you spend most of your day at Rhys's side, waiting for a command or for him to need something. There are other days where you're out and about, in the halls of headquarters, or the streets of the city. Regrettably, you're relieved that it's the ladder today.
“Don’t worry, I do trust you,” you call out half heartedly as you leave. Rhys wants to take one of the monitors off a nearby desk and smash it against his head. That couldn’t have gone any worse. ‘You gotta trust me’ seriously? After what he just did to you? A bit of a groan escapes him and he goes back to his desk to sit down. Hopefully he can wrestle a reservation out of the place he had in mind. He figures you’re just telling him what he wants to hear— you’re a good employee like that. But before this all, you probably would have told him the truth. That dinner won’t fix him betraying you like this. That it’s not gonna magically put down the metaphorical middle finger he’d just put up to the months of time his relationship with you was built around. To the hours you spent basically at his beck and call. Doing whatever he told you to without a question or second thought. You'd always given off the impression you thought he was brilliant. And that made Rhys feel good. He's worried you won't ever look at him again like that.
He drums his fingers on the desk, resting his chin and mouth in his hand again as he shuts his eyes.
On the bright side…he’d finally had the balls to ask you out. Part of the reason he’d wanted Zer0 to interrogate you was because he’d really wanted to try going out with you. Obviously, he hadn't exactly jumped to let Zer0 know that. He still had a personal life! He was allowed to do that! CEO or not! He opens his eyes and reaches to the photo of Sasha on his desk, suddenly feeling guilty, and goes to place it face down. But he hesitates. It’s…kinda lonely at the top. He feels it tenfold lately. And… well your smile had started kinda being the highlight of his day. Now he fears he's never gonna see the real thing ever again. She’d want him happy right? He pulls his hand away from the picture. There’s nothing wrong with this. There’s nothing wrong with a guy like him wanting a girl like you. Of course there’s that pesky power imbalance, the fact that he’s your boss could make this messy… But other CEOs just do whatever they want, right? They don’t think about any of this shit. Although he doesn’t like thinking back to his time at Hyperion, even he remembers Handsome Jack’s reputation for fucking just about anything that moved. Whatever he wanted, he got. That was why Rhys had begun to admire him in the first place.
Rhys rubs at his eyes. He doesn’t want to be like Jack though. Or Katagawa with that stupid ‘pleasure yacht’, or any other nutcase CEO. He doesn't want to just...just bend you over the desk and fuck you, like you're just something to use, he swears to himself it's not like that at all! It's more than lust that tortures him. He wants you to like him. So desperately bad. He knows you like having him as a boss, that you like his stupid little jokes, that you like his mustache (he'd asked you once to be sure), that you enjoyed his company. At least once you did. But he wants you to like like him. The same way he feels about you. But it’d have been dangerous to let you in so fast without knowing for sure that you weren’t Maliwan’s last hurrah in an attempt to end his life. That you weren’t some super secret cute seductress spy attempting to exact revenge for Katagawa Jr. He wondered if it’d be rude to ask what your relationship with the other CEO had been. After how well everything else had gone? Yeah, probably.
You'd been pretty low ranked in Maliwan, from what little you'd told him of it. He doubts that you'd ever received the high honor of boarding that stupid fucking pleasure yacht. He felt himself get a little angry still, at the notion of something he'd likely made up in his head and had no ground to stand on whatsoever.
“Should I follow you?/ She could still try to kill you./I know I would try.” Rhys jumps a little as Zer0’s voice comes out of thin air. He’d forgotten that he'd sent the bodyguard out. And he certainly hadn't noticed him sneaking back in. Well not, sneaking, more like just sauntered right back in, plain as day and Rhys had been so lost in his incredibly frustrating thoughts he hadn't noticed. It'd been...a smart choice to have Zer0 leave the room. He’d have felt worse having him skulk around all invisible. Chances were the assassin had already listened in. And Rhys was none the wiser. What a powerful ally…He finds himself grateful Zer0 is on his side, even if he doesn't quite know what the answer is.
“Ah, no,” Rhys says. “It’ll be alright. She’s not a Maliwan spy or anything— you heard it yourself.” Zer0 gives him a look that needs no verbal explanation. “I mean, you did interrogate her yourself. I don’t think she’d lie to you. Or me, as a matter of fact.” Zer0 just shrugs. “I will still come with./ I will be outside the place./ Your foes still draw breath.” Cool, a bodyguard outside the restaurant. And Rhys promises he’ll tell you too. Nothing but transparency from here on out! He can be better for you. Rhys wonders if it’s bordering on delusional to think he still has a chance with you after today. He’s reminded that you don’t have anywhere to go but Atlas. Anyone else would have breathed a sigh of relief at that security. But it only makes Rhys feel worse.
What if you’d only said yes because you couldn’t say anything else? He’d never wanted you to feel as if turning him down wasn’t an option. You had seemed pretty genuine in accepting the offer. But if he brought up the idea of dating…should he just hold off on that? But he thinks about what Zer0 said, that poetic stuff about his enemies still breathing. He does have people out there who want him dead. So if he’s gonna die, he’s gonna die like a man, dammit! And he’s gonna tell you how he feels because that’s the manly thing to do! Emotions are manly! Sharing them is manly! So why does he feel like he’s gonna throw up on his desk? Focus, Rhys, focus. The reservation hasn’t even been made yet.
He hopes you'll like the place he picked. That is if you don't find an excuse by the end of the workday to flake out on him. He knows he might do something like that if he was in your position. Several hundred feet down, in the heart of the building, you do your best to stay busy and keep your mind off...everything. Every time you feel dread begin to rise, you beat the feeling back down.
Free food. Free food. Free food. Free food.
The repetition doesn't seem to help.
When the end of the day comes, time forever marching forwards no matter how badly you wish it wouldn't, you find yourselves at another crossroads. Maintenance had come back with their report. You knew you could take it to Rhys in person, as you usually do. It wasn't a formal policy or anything, it's just something the two of you had always done. In a company so absorbed in technology, it was important to have a little human contact. However you feel your stomach drop at the idea of jumping back on the elevator and going to his office...seeing him again. It's such a ridiculous turmoil--you have to see him again anyways later on in the night. But you just don't feel ready yet.
You need some time to yourself. You need fifteen minutes to go home and cry on your bed, to get all the nasty horrible feelings chewing away at your insides out. Let yourself fall apart so you can string yourself back together, good as new. Then maybe, just maybe, you could handle dinner with Rhys. The last think you want to do is break down crying in public. It had been so hard to bite back the tears in his office, harder with every word out of his mouth.
You make the difficult choice just to forward the report to him via ECHO. If he asks any questions you'll just tell him you needed a little time to get home and get ready. Luckily, as you begin to head out the door alongside other Atlas employees, you don't receive any incoming calls from him. You wonder if he's up there, with that guilty dog-caught-eating-trash look, probably kicking himself for all this. It takes a lot of restraint not to turn around and go back into the building to check on him, like you've gotten so used to doing.
Maybe that's the worst part of today--is that you want to go crawling back. You want to sweep this under the rug, pretend like none of it happened, pretend like it's normal for someone you trust and maybe even love to do this to you. But you just can't. It'll take time. Or a way bigger gesture than dinner, you guess.
Dinner itself started off as awkward as you had imagined it to be. It's Rhys, so you figured there'd be a level of awkwardness whether what happened today had gone down or not. He still hadn't called you, to your relief, and had simply forwarded the address to the restaurant and the reservation time to your ECHO. You'd told yourself before leaving the house that if you really wanted to, you probably could have faked sick to get out of this or come up with some other brilliant excuse.
But you don't. You don't have the heart to stand him up like that.
Oh also he's the CEO of Atlas and probably the man with the most power on all of Promethea. You'd weighed the possibility of him doing something drastic if you didn't show. You...you don't think he's that kind of man. But after the little loyalty test with Zer0, you're no longer sure. You're uneasy. So if sitting down for a little dinner with him takes that horrible feeling away, you'd do it.
He gives a bit of a weak, quiet whistle, hands in his pockets, somehow confident and nervous all at the same time. "Wow," he'd said to you, looking you up and down in your different outfit. "You look, uh, you look great."
He gives you his signature 'ok' hand signal, a habit he'd formed lately. You'd just responded with a curt nod, still not sure what to say to him. You hate this. He hates this too. It feels like the two of you are strangers all over again. He's briefly reminded of your first week at Atlas, at his side. You'd rarely spoken to him, you couldn't look him in the eye, you flinched when he did speak, and everything you did, you did absolutely terrified. It'd taken half a month to get you to stop calling him sir, and even longer to convince you to address him as 'Rhys' rather than Mr. Strongfork. Was it gonna be like that again?
What the hell was he thinking...
He visibly seems to deflate, the smile flickering on his face. You feel bad for your coldness--it hadn't been purposeful.
You clear your throat. "Y-You look good too, Rhys. Beautiful, as always."
That seems to perk him up a little. That dumb smile of his slips back onto his face. "Y'think? Parted my hair different, see?"
You honestly can't tell the difference or if he's joking. But either way, you just nod again. Whatever, as long as that horrible ice is broken. It shouldn't be there in the first place. You painstakingly remind yourself that it's his fault it's there to begin with. He lead you over to a table, near the back of the restaurant, towards a large window that gave a rather nice view of the city. Well, what was left of it anyways. He has a lot to rebuild.
"This spot used to be the best in the house," he explains a bit awkwardly. "It's been a...a little bit since I've taken anyone here so I totally forgot that the city's, uh, destroyed--you ever been here before?"
He has this way of talking where every thought just goes straight to his mouth. Like you can follow his train of thought alongside him. That's why you'd trusted him so fast and warmed up to him so easily before. Now it makes you wonder how he'd been able to keep his plan a secret from you. Had he planned to do that to you for long? Or was it a spur of the moment Rhys thing?
Stop thinking about it.
He was waiting on a response.
You shake your head. "No. I haven't had the chance to check everything out here."
Rhys wants to kick himself. Right. You'd practically spent most of your adult life working under Maliwan. You'd only come to Promethea to begin with because that's where you'd been ordered to go. Hopefully a waiter comes soon and saves him from this. Or...he could just be honest with you and say sorry. He'd been pacing the office, already planning out an apology in his head. He'd even written it down on a piece of paper, of all things, and then had promptly crumpled it up and threw it out. There's...there's a lot he wants to say to you and he doesn't have a clue where to start.
You watch Rhys call over a waiter with a rather brisk gesture that suggests the conversation is just as uncomfortable for him. Quietly, you put your order in. He orders wine-- a nice bottle from what little you know about fineries. You hadn't really imagined him to be a big drinker. He must be nervous.
"You can have some too. Obviously. As much as you want. My treat."
"Thanks," you say a bit blankly, finding your gaze wandering somewhere out the window.
He can wait for the alcohol to loosen him up a bit. To give him the courage to say what he need to. But he wonders if that might come across as inauthentic. If you'll think it's just the wine talking for him.
Fuck it.
"Look," he says with a heavy sigh, regaining your attention.
With your eyes on him, he's suddenly ten times more reluctant to continue. But he sets his jaw, he sits up straighter. His hand, the organic one, reaches across the table, in an attempt to mimic your forgiving gesture in his office earlier. You stare at it for a moment and Rhys heart stops in his chest. But then, gingerly, your arm lifts, and your place your hand in his. His fingers come to tighten around yours.
"I'm gonna be honest. No more lying, or hiding things from you. So I'll start by telling you that Zer0 is outside the building."
He waits for you to snatch your hand away, to stand up outraged and storm away from the table, right back out the door. He feel him almost brace himself. But you don't move.
"I'll hear you out, Rhys," you say, voice still low. "But I'm not going to make any promises that I can just magically forgive you, or we can go back to how things were, no matter what you say. To be honest, I'm not even sure how I feel right now."
"Of course, of course," he says, just sounding happy you haven't stomped off yet. "But you deserve an apology. So here it is. I'm sorry, (Y/N). I really am. It was a mistake to ask Zer0 to interrogate you like that. It was a mistake to ever doubt your faith in Atlas, in me. I know you haven't been with me long, but I honestly don't know how I would have stayed sane lately without you around. You're..."
Your work at Atlas is important to me. Say that.
"You're important to me," Rhys says finally. "Which is why I couldn't risk losing you if Maliwan was still...well, y'know, in the picture."
You're quiet for a moment. His hand's warm around yours. You've made no motion to pull away.
"I have a question for you," you say.
"Yes, anything," Rhys says, practically halfway across the table, he's leaning in so intently.
"If I had been a traitor, er, a Maliwan spy...what would you have done?" The question had been burning in the back of your mind.
Rhys hadn't even stopped to think about that. Maybe it's because even when he gave Zer0 the order, he hadn't imagine Zer0 would come back with anything suggesting you actually were a traitor. That made him feel bad again. He should have trusted his gut...he shouldn't have questioned you.
"I...I'm not sure. I wouldn't have had Zer0 hurt you, if that's what you're thinking. I think..." What would he have done? "I think I would have tried to figure out why. Why you were still working with Maliwan. Wh-which you aren't! I know that! But I would have figured that maybe they were blackmailing you, or-or threatening to hurt you, or something."
Your head tilts. "Why?" For the first time that night your gaze meets his again and he feels relief thrum through him.
"Because I still wouldn't want to lose you," Rhys said firmly. He gives a bit of a laugh. "No, I wouldn't give you back to Maliwan that easily, c'mon now. Who'd bring me all my bagels with the extra cream cheese and coffee and whatever stupid thing I'm craving if you weren't around?"
Your shoulders also move in a bit of a laugh. You know that you do more for him than that. He knows it too. But he doesn't have to mention all that.
Rhy's thumb strokes over the back of your hand. "And...y'know when I first found you, hiding under my desk--which is where I was going, by the way--I figured...something tells me you were just as afraid as I was. Even if you'd been sent there to definitely kill me on sight. I don't think you'd secretly work for a corporation that scares you that much when there's a better option. Atlas is wayyy too nice to betray, right?"
You give him a half smile.
"Okay, Rhys, you don't have to keep going. That...hearing that makes me feel a little better," you admit.
Your chosen drink and Rhys's wine arrives at the table. When he offers you a glass as well, you accept almost immediately. His apology, although initially hard to start, seemed to set your mind more at peace. You seemed to relax more, especially after a few more glasses of wine. Before long, the two of you are laughing and talking like you used to, over various plates of food that he's pretty sure neither of you will finish. Leftovers...nice. His suite's pretty barebones when it comes to fridge content because of how busy he'd been lately.
He had not known before offering you as much wine as you wanted that you were a bit of a lightweight. He realizes when he signals for a check from the waiter that the night may get a little more interesting. Especially when you were hanging on his cybernetic arm, finally outside the restaurant. It's difficult to keep an eye on you, the to go bag, and trying to pin down a ride all at once.
He manages and makes sure you gets into the car safe first. As he settles down next to you with a sigh, he glances over at you. You already look half asleep. He'd hate to wake you up, you look so peaceful...He turns his head to give the driver instructions but finds his words stuck in his throat.
He realizes he has zero idea where you actually live. “Uh…..” Guess you could just come home with him? You’re practically asleep on his shoulder already, head leaned into the crook of his neck.
He tries to stay as quiet as he can for the ride over, not wanting to wake you until he absolutely has to. You naturally come out of it when the car rolls to a stop outside the building. You don't really ask any questions as he guides you in with him. Either you're too tired, or you don't care enough to ask what's going on. Rhys feels a glow in his chest. Which means maybe you trust him again...? For real? Not in the fake, amicable way from before?
Rhys shoulders open the door to his suite for you. He momentarily abandons the food from the restaurant on the marble countertop. He brings you to the first place he can think of, or at least the safest, the bedroom. Like you think it's your own room, you collapse onto the bed yourself, without any further prompting from him.
"Man, remind me not to go drinking with you," he mumbled, throwing some of the covers over you. "You get sleepy wayyyy too fast."
His response is just an unintelligible mumble. For a moment, he sits on the edge of the bed as you nuzzle into the pillow--his pillow. Somewhere in your mind, you wonder faintly why your bed smells like Rhys for some reason. His weight shifts, an attempt to leave. The couch in the living room is plenty comfortable. And so is his chair and his desk back in his office if he doesn't sleep well tonight.
He hears the covers shift. He feels your fingers suddenly wrap around his wrist, gently tugging him back to the bed.
“(Y/N),” he starts, but he sees the way your eyebrows furrow, like you’re in pain. Much different from the peaceful mini-nap you had been taking on his shoulder in the backseat of the car. “Please... don’t leave me here alone,” you say softly, eyes still shut. “I don’t... I don't wanna be alone.” He barely catches the last bit your slurring is so bad, but his mind quickly catches up and connects the dots. Slowly, Rhys settles back down onto the bed. You keep pulling at him and with a sigh, he gives in fully, laying down next to you. A bit clumsily, your arms wrap around him completely. He lays, flat on his back, staring up at the ceiling, as your hand rests on his shoulder, arm splayed put over his chest. You’ve turned on your side, face pressed to his arm.
Rhys is careful not to move the entire night, although he can't help dozing off a few times. He doesn't even know how it's possible to do that with the way his heart is racing in his chest. This...this isn't usually what he has in mind during his weaker moments where he can't help but picture you here, on his bed, with him. He finds his hand reaching up to grasp yours on his shoulder, holding gently overtop. Not wanting to move and wake you up, he manages to turn off the lights, from the bed. The perks of keeping his cybernetics and ECHO eye in such a high tech city, he supposes. The curtains pull, as if compelled, completely shut, to block out any further intrusive light.
Was this professional by any means?
No.
But then again, he thinks, gazing down at you, ECHO eye allowing him to see slightly in the darkness... when has he ever really cared about professionalism?
When you eventually wake, you feel like you just had the best sleep of your entire life. No screaming no nightmares, no clench of fear in your chest, no waking in a cold sweat. Could have been the alcohol, but it also could have been that you're not alone in the bed-...Wait a minute, where the fuck are you? Your fingers are resting on something, someone else’s shoulder. Your heart seizes in your chest. The last thing you remember was drinking with Rhys…his apology…wait. Slowly and tentatively, in the pitch black room, your other hand, the one that had been placed on his chest slowly drifts up to touch over a cheek.
You bite the inside of your own cheek, letting your hand travel slightly down until you feel thick hair under your fingertips, and a soft upper lip—it’s definitely Rhys. What the fuck is wrong with you? You both get drunk and the first thing you do is fuck him?! Completely unprofessional. Would you even be able to look him in the eyes ever again after this?! This was the exact thing you'd always been trying to avoid in Maliwan. It was all too easy to sleep with a boss open enough to the idea and get an easy promotion through that--you'd always sworn you'd never be one of those girls, as lucky as they were. And you'd especially sworn to yourself that you wouldn't do that with Rhys, even if he was cute and funny in that weird way and-
Jesus Christ. You suddenly feel a warm hand grasp over yours, the non-mechanical one. Rhys moves your hand down, hesitating over his lips briefly, before he decides it’s safer to just hold it at his chest again. He’s still wearing his shirt from the night before. His tie isn't even undone. Which means…you think about all the various ways you could have had sex…which means absolutely nothing. But…your underwear is still in place and your dress is only askew because you had likely shifted in your sleep. It’s like he can read your mind. “We didn’t do anything,” Rhys says, voice a bit rough from just having woken up. “You just…I was gonna go sleep on the couch, but you said you didn’t wanna be alone.” Your face heats with embarrassment. You said that to him? “Oh…sorry. I just…” You trail off. Just because he'd been honest with you last night doesn't mean you owe him the same thing. You don’t want to tell him that every night when you go to sleep you have to relive Maliwan. You don’t want to let him know that there’s a personal hell waiting for you every time you close your eyes outside the workplace. You don't want- “Why don’t you wanna be alone?” Rhys finds himself asking, interrupting your quickly spiralling train of thought. “Maybe it was just a drunk thing but-“ “Every time I go to sleep I’m back, working for Maliwan, people dying all around me,” you find yourself confessing anyways, like you can't help it. Like you're possessed by some obligance. “It’s awful. I kinda thought it would stop after awhile but it…I dunno.” Rhys shifts a little. You think he might be looking at you. You see his pale blue ECHO eye glow a little in the darkness, fixed on you. “Did it help last night? I mean, me staying?” he asks. You nod. “Yeah. It did.” There’s really nothing else you can say to him.
You can't see it in the dark, but Rhys frowns. Every time you close your fucking eyes you’re back, in the middle of a battle, being shot at? Being miserable because of your former corporation? And it follow you even today? It still haunts you? And here he was making an assassin go interrogate you, thinking you were going to betray him and go back to Maliwan? He could not possibly feel sorry enough. He heaves a sigh, one that moves your hand on his chest with it. “I’m so sorry, (Y/N). I feel like even more of an idiot now. I had no idea-“ You shrug. “How could you? It’s not like I was sharing my dream journal with you over lunch.” You have a…? He realizes you’re just making a little joke. Awkwardly, he stays quiet for a few more moments. You feel him squeeze your hand a little tighter to his chest. “I…I wouldn’t mind if you did. I want that. Uh…” The mental health of my employees is very important to me! He could save himself now. He could bail on this whole stupid crush. He could keep this professional and just find someone else. But he just... can’t. “I really really like you, (Y/N). And you don’t have to say it back or pretend to like me to so you can keep your job. You’ll always have a home at Atlast, with me, no matter what your answer is.” You’re quiet for a few agonizing moments that feel like hours to Rhys with the way his heart is pumping. It's too early in the morning for this shit. At least he thinks it is. He actually has no idea what time it is. He feels you shift in bed, sitting up. Are you leaving? Already his heart begins to sink. He’s glad it’s dark in here so you can’t see how red he is. He breathes out a soft sigh, shutting his eyes momentarily. You see his ECHO eye’s light disappear. At least he’d finally said something. At least- He suddenly feels your lips at the corner of his mouth. “Sorry, I missed,” you murmur, a bit embarrassed. “It’s dark in here.” Rhys can’t help but take your chin in his hand, adjusting your position so he can kiss you fully on the lips. The first is light, experimental at most. The kind of thing you can wave off as a mistake and walk away from. The second kiss… not so much. It's passionate, deep, your lips moving against his, like you want him in his entirety. Such a desperate, lonesome kind of need...the nature of your feelings towards him becomes just a little clearer to Rhys right then.
He’s breathless when you pull away, chest rising and falling somewhat quickly. “So…I’m guessing that means you like me too?” He asks, a hopeful twinge in his voice.
You fall back into the mattress, at his side, hand still grasped in his. You have no intention of pulling it away. With a sigh, you respond. “You have no idea.”

(gender neutral reader)
________________________________________________________
“They’re so beautiful..” he thought to himself staring longingly at the..in his eyes.. Goddess/god-like person. He didn't even know this person. But he was smitten. From their glowing face beaming with happiness, to their beautiful legs and scuffed boots. they were.. Gorgeous. If only he could tell her. He internally sighed, knowing himself he would probably yell something vulgar at the person and scare them away.
The person known as ((name)) was washing cups behind the bar, chatting away with the regulars. Sparing glances at the psycho staring at them. He was a very fine man. Mid 30s maybe? He had very broad shoulders and a very thin waist. “Hey, sweetie. Anything I can get you?” you asked nicely. Awaiting an answer patiently while he just twitches like a possum playing dead.
“Oh god. She came over here. Don't do anything stupid. Like yell-””WANNA SEE MY SHINY MEAT BICYCLE !?” the man yelled at them. Making the person jump back a bit. “God dammit. Why can't you just be normal.” he sighed, knowing you were probably going to kick him out. “Heh..you're a bit odd.. How about some whiskey ?” they giggled at the man's sudden outburst.
You've dealt with psychos before, most being hostile and trying to hurt you. This one was a bit different. You could see in his eyes there was something other than wanting to murder. “So what's your name hun ?” you ask, grabbing the whiskey and a glass. He seems to hesitate for a moment struggling with his answer. You're a very patient person, I mean you have to deal with drunks every day, so patience was a necessity.
“Tell them your name is Krieg. Focus and tell them your name is KRIEG.” his sane self scolded him. “KRIEG.” he said loud and confidently. “I like it. Sounds nice.” they respond “my name is ((name)).” they state, setting the glass down for him. “Here you are. I'll be right back..” they said, walking away to tend to other customers. Eyes following your body around the bar, gaze never leaving your form. “That's the most spectacular person I have ever seen.” he thinks to himself.
Time skip~
Taking a deep breath, you turn the lights to the bar off and begin your walk home. Still thinking about Krieg. He was a bit odd but what do you expect from a man like him. He liked to yell and talk about his meat bicycle. Whatever that was. You found it amusing, a contrast to your normally boring job. Trudging your way home, you hear something rustle behind you. Walking faster you hear footsteps start following you. Someone grabs you and the second they grab you. You hear a snap. “Bones..” you thought, the disgusting grotesque sound rings throughout the calm night. Crunching and squishing as the body thuds against the ground. “AHAHAHA!! YOU OK PRETTY PERSON?!” the all too familiar voice yells at you.
“Im ok Krieg.. Wait.. how did you know i was in trouble. Did you follow me.” you ask, heavily concerned “YES!”
“NO!” his inner voice yells “WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT!?”. "um..Krieg..that's bad.” the woman tells the man. “I KNOW.” he responds, ((name)) sighs, and smiles at the man's goofiness. “You wanna come home with me?” they ask. Krieg buffers again, thinking. “Yes, say yes. Say yes to her.” “HELL YEAH!!” he said eagerly.

chishiya x reader where they are dating pre-borderlands and they have to hide their relationship when they get transferred to that world/reach the beach !
★・・・・★・・・・★
universe: alice in borderland
warnings: death, torture mentioned
★・・・・★・・・・★
While tidying your room at the beach, you started to feel more nostalgic every second of sorting your clothes or going through all of the stuff on your desk to make it look decent. your mind has been interrupted lately. Every time you had a little moment of free time you would think about the past and how good would it be to be back. How many nights were you crying your eyes out about it? You're not sure.
Every problem you had before getting to this world seems ridiculously simple to you now.
Way back the only problem you had was to find at least a couple of minutes a day to see your beloved one. Chishiya's schedule was always full since most of his time he would spend at the hospital. You could understand it, you loved him no matter what, and whenever you got a chance to see each other - you would use that time in the best way possible. To make it up to you, he would take you to cozy bars and restaurants for dinner or just spend the time watching TV and cuddling on the couch. Chishiya was always tired, obviously, you knew that, but he would still make sure you fall asleep first. You would often find him sleeping on the floor or by the dining table in various uncomfortable positions, mostly surrounded by tons and tons of medical books.
Well, while dating him at first you had no idea that your feelings are gonna develop so fast that by the end of your eight months together you decided to find an apartment. You loved the area since it was close not only to your job but also to Chishiya's hospital. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for you to realize that you would spend most days alone there. None of you found it a problem, you would just use all the time you had possible.
Chishiya wasn't a very touchy person, he was a man of his word and act. He would help you with the cooking on his days off, sometimes even cooking by himself to surprise you. He was a great cook but a very tired and overwhelmed one so you wouldn't ever expect him to do that more than once a week. He never forgot any anniversaries, birthdays, or holidays. Gifting you was his favorite way of showing you affection even if he never seem to like it. Whenever he promised you something, no matter what it was - he was going to make that happen. Every single time. Also, even if he never seemed to like touching, he would find himself cuddling you in your sleep or when you were watching movies. Playing with your hair or clothes has always been very relaxing to him. He also adored watching you going through your day. Whenever he was home, he would sneak behind you while you were washing the dishes or cooking, maybe sometimes when you would bring some work home. He adored you and would smile every time you were together, even through the toughest of days.
You supported each other no matter what, you were always there for each other and honestly, you were always open about your emotions. Arguments weren't your thing. You would calmly explain everything to each other and try to get the other side to find the best possible compromise.
Now, you could only dream about getting back to how things were.
As soon as you finished your first game, Chishiya told you to act like you don't know him next time. He knew that people would use your relationship to their advantage, trying to separate you or just use one of you to get rid of the other one. No matter how much it hurt, you understood him and decided to do everything as he said. You wouldn't participate in games together until they were group ones. That would always give you additional chances of surviving since some of the games would let only one player win.
Every time you were alone, you would talk about anything other than games to just try to act as if things were normal. Both of you were aware they were not, but that was the least you could do, right?
You thought things couldn't get worse for both of you. Well, they eventually did. Joining the beach was better than you expected in most cases, but it ruined your relationship. You didn't even know if you were dating anymore since you wouldn't talk that much. On your first day, you realized that being open about your relationship wasn't an option. You just needed a single, quick look at Chishiya's face to understand what was going on. He didn't trust any of those people, maybe only Kuina a little bit later on. You stepped aside and decided to play his game. He made up a story that you met each other at your third game and you had luck ever since. Most of the time you both would just play dumb, so people wouldn't mind you. You acted as if you didn't understand the game dynamics and they were all just kinda random. The truth was, it took Chishiya only three games to get the scheme and predict what will be the last option. He was incredibly intelligent, which is one of many things you love about him so much. You were never too far behind him tho, since you were the one who after hearing the rules of a game would think of your strategy, mostly trying to cheat your way out without breaking any of the said rules. You were a great duo and you loved that you could always depend on each other.
The problem began when the Hatter wanted to test both of you to see if it was a good decision to let you stay. You were sent to a game together with a couple of people from the beach. The shock on everyone's faces was unforgettable since you and Chishiya were the only ones who got back. You couldn't explain what happened, you were just in too much shock to understand it. Chishiya had to be the one to explain that the reason you survived was that you didn't tell other people anything. What did you know? Well, the rules of the game were really simple. It was just a regular guessing game from which you would get a sentence based on a couple of simple verbs and adjectives and you had to guess what they describe. The game had to last 120 minutes and after that, every person who wasn't eliminated could just leave. Something you noticed was that the answer was hidden in one of the previous sentences. You could hear at least a couple of words before your turn. Everything was connected to each other and all you had to do was memorize previous words.
All fourteen players sat down in a circle and all of them would get one sentence per round. After the round, the person who either didn't guess or took too long to guess would be electrocuted. You sat right next to Chishiya and you could talk in between rounds. After the first one, you explained how to win since you noticed the pattern. Your man only nodded his head and looked in the other direction for nobody to notice something was wrong.
The true problem began when the about of people in the game would get smaller and smaller and eventually it was only three of you and 29 seconds until the game was over. If the woman who was sitting opposite you would get her answer right, you had to be very very quick to get Chishiya some time to figure out his answer. To your fortune - she wasn't right and the time run out before she stopped getting eliminated. Since it was only the two of you, you expressed your joy by running into each other's arms, you couldn't even see anything because happy tears covered your eyes.
When you were back, you had to act like strangers again and that was killing you every single second where you could only look at the love of your life from far. He would occasionally talk to you in public, but only if he really had to. You couldn't even think of touching him or holding his hand, obviously. Yes, he would sometimes sneak into your room to sleep there, but after some time it got too dangerous since drunk people would occasionally get into the wrong room. That was keeping you both safe but sometimes you felt as if it wasn't enough.
Getting back to tidying your room wasn't that easy since you were already crying about all of the memories you just recalled. You just sat on your bed, trying to catch your breath as you heard someone opening the door. It was your day to clean the pool with a couple of other people so you just thought it was one of them.
- I'll be downstairs in a couple of minutes, I didn't forget. - you said.
The person didn't leave, just closed the door and moved toward you. They quietly kneeled in front of your face, covered by your shaking hands, and moved them away.
- I'm so sorry, sweetheart. - whispered a way-too-familiar, calming voice.
You looked at the person in shock. It was the first time in weeks since Chishiya got even close to you, and now? He was right there, in front of you with that smile and warm, loving eyes. You needed him more than anything and you were so happy that after all, you'll always be his lover, he'll always be there for you, just not as he normally would. But when everything isn't normal, you too need to adjust and now you knew - you don't have to worry. Just one look at him melted your heart, and you could feel as if you were right where you belonged.

“come on y/n,” kuina urges, dramatically sighing. “it’s been so long since we went out together!”
“okay.” she cheers when you agree.
“great! i’ll meet you by the pool.” you hum, watching as she rushes out of the room. chishiya glances at you for a second as he continues tinkering away at another kerosene bomb.
“you’re really gonna go out and party?”
“you know kuina. she’ll never stop asking,” you lean down to peck his cheek, smiling when chishiya turns to press his lips against yours in a sweet kiss. “besides, it could be fun.”
he hums in agreement as you leave the room, making your way to the pool in search of kuina.
you find her sitting on a beach chair already making conversation with two new people you’ve never seen before. the man has long, shaggy hair. he’s wearing a blue t-shirt and a random pair of swim trunks. a woman sits beside him wearing a peach jacket and black biker shorts. they’re listening to kuina intently. new beach members, you assume.
kuina perks up as you approach, greeting you with a smile. “this is y/n,” she says, tugging you down to sit beside her.
“arisu ryohei,” the man bows.
“usagi yuzuha,” the woman smiles.
“l/n y/n.”
“i was just telling arisu and usagi about how the beach works,” she says. “they got here earlier today. did you really win a seven of hearts game?”
you just barely miss the brief sadness that crosses his face before arisu nods. “is that good?”
“that’s great! we didn’t have one of those.”
“they’re thinking about promoting you to be an executive.”
“an executive?” usagi repeats. “what is that?”
“they help advise hatter,” kuina explains. “you probably met some of them earlier when you first met him. what other games have you played?”
slowly, your conversation shifts from the beach and the games to you personally. you find yourself joking around with arisu and usagi late into the night. it’s only when you yawn, rolling the stiffness out of you neck as you look up at the sky. it’s late - later than you usually stay out. the stars are visible as they shine brightly in the sky.
“i should head to bed,” you say, forcing yourself to stand up.
“me too,” usagi agrees.
“i’ll see you tomorrow?” arisu asks.
“see you tomorrow,” you smile.
you find chishiya still sitting at the desk in his makeshift workshop after a few minutes of searching. you sit down beside him, leaning against his shoulder. he reaches over to take your hand into his, letting you intertwine your fingers together. “where were you?”
“with arisu, usagi, and kuina,” you yawn.
“tired?”
you hum. “i have a game tomorrow.”
“come on,” chishiya coaxes you to stand up as he leads you back to your shared room. “let’s go to bed.”
you let him lead you back through the hotel. you quickly kick your shoes off by the door before pulling chishiya to lay down with you. he presses a kiss against your forehead as you relax, falling asleep safely in his arms.
arisu nervously glances over at usagi, leaning over her shoulder to see her assigned group. “we won’t be together,” he says. “be careful.”
“you too,” she says before she’s called away to the car that will drive her to her game.
you reach over to pat arisu’s shoulder. “usagi is smart. she’ll be fine.” he gives you a wary nod as he follows you to your own car before ann begins driving you to your game.
the phones are set out on the same white table they always are. they have thick plastic casings around them as you reach over to grab one. “they’re waterproof,” arisu mumbles.
ann simply hums as she leads you down a staircase and into a small room. the water just barely reaches up to your knees when you step into it. a variety of cords hang down from the ceiling. on the wall furthest away from you, there are three switches labeled ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C.’ kuina stands in front of a sliding door. a light bulb hangs from the ceiling behind her.
along with kuina, there are three other people already waiting in the room: two men and two women. they awkwardly stand away from each other as you wade through the water over to the switches. arisu follows you as ann stands in front of the door.
“what do you think this is?” arisu whispers.
your reply is cut off when your phone chimes with an announcement. “registration closed. difficulty: four of diamonds. rules: there is a light bulb in the adjacent room. one switch connects to the light bulb. when the door is closed, players may flip any switch, but when the door is open, players may only flip a switch once. the door will not closed if there is a player inside of the room or if a switch is flipped. game clear: players unanimously answer which switch turns on the light. game over: the water level rises and touches the high current lines.”
as soon as the announcement stops, water begins flowing into the room. next to you, a woman raises her hand to touch one of the wires. her body convulses when she does before falling to the ground - dead.
“those are the current lines,” ann sighs, pushing her sunglasses up over her head.
“what should we do?” a man asks. he’s wearing a blue button down shirt and khakis. he stares at you with wide eyes as he glances between you and the others.
“why don’t we just flip one?” another player suggests. his jacket has been tied around his waist and a baseball cap hides his hair. “that leaves a 50/50 chance.”
“66%,” ann corrects. “arisu, what should we do?”
arisu nervously looks around at the other players before looking at you. he turns around to face the switches, anxiously debating which one he should flip - if he flips one at all.
“why are we letting him decide?” a man yells.
“because we’re testing him.” ann silences any arguments before returning her attention to arisu once again. “arisu?”
the water level continues rising. it’s higher than your knees now, nearly reaching the middle of your thighs. he hesitantly reaches over to grab the first switch - switch A. you give him a small, reassuring nod before he makes a decision. “close the door,” he instructs before pushing the lever up.
it almost feels a little anticlimactic when nothing immediately happens. the water continues rising up to your hips. you ignore the concerned looks from the other players as you wait.
once the water reaches your chest, arisu pulls the lever back down. “open the door!” he yells. despite her confusion, kuina wades through the water as quickly as she can. another player helps her force the door open, revealing the light bulb. arisu flips the B switch, waiting a few seconds. “kuina, go check the light!”
she makes her way into the room, reaching up to touch the bulb. she flinches back, wincing. “it’s hot!”
“it’s switch A!” arisu yells. the water stops immediately after his answer.
"game clear. congratulations." a familiar announcement plays.
a few seconds later, it begins to drain out of the room. he lets out a relieved sigh, leaning back against the wall.
“you did good,” you reach over to pat his shoulder. “thank you.” arisu gives you a small smile before following after you as you leave the room.
chishiya is leaning back against the wall with his hands shoved into his pockets when you find him. he silently greets you with a small half-smile as you join him in observing the beach members. the partying started picking up even more as the sun sets. music blares from the speakers as people mingle around the pool.
“y/n,” arisu smiles as he approaches you. usagi follows just behind him. “do you want to get a drink?”
“sure.”
you don’t notice chishiya’s surprised glance as you follow arisu and usagi to a pair of random beach chairs. he silently watches as arisu hands you a beer. you smile brightly, throwing your head back in a fit of laughter.
chishiya can nearly feel his jealousy building inside of his stomach. he’s hyper aware of his surroundings - careful not to show his feelings too much - though even he has a few tells. his eyebrows furrow slightly, eyes squinting as arisu tells yet another joke that makes both you and usagi smile. his half smile has completely disappeared and his jaw is clenched slightly.
he isn’t sure how long he’s been standing there, watching you. the sun has set completely by now; plunging the beach into complete darkness. you’ve slowly dranken at least four bottles of beer as the night continues dragging on.
chishiya startles slightly when kuina speaks. he was so focused on you he hadn’t noticed her approaching or standing beside him. “someone’s a little jealous,” she teases. her smile drops a little when he doesn’t react. instead of replying with a snarky remark of his own or making an attempt to swat her away, he remains quiet, still watching you joke around with arisu. “chishiya?” she sighs, crossing her arms over her chest as she rolls the cigarette between her fingers as she debates what to say next. “look, y/n loves you. they would never do anything to hurt you. arisu is a funny guy. i’m sure he doesn’t mean anything by it.”
chishiya simply hums, pushing himself off of the wall. his gaze remains fixated on you as he walks over to where you’ve been sitting for the past few hours. you reach up to grab his arm,as he leans down to whisper to you. “it’s late, we should get to bed.”
“okay,” your words slur together as you stand up. chishiya is silently grateful as you cling to him. he snakes an arm around your waist to support you. “goodnight,” you wave to arisu and usagi as he helps you back towards your shared room inside the beach’s hotel.
you lazily blink up at chishiya with a small smile as he lays you down on the bed before sitting down beside you. “you were watching me all night,” you say, moving to lean against him. “are you jealous?”
“you’re drunk,” he says, coaxing you to lay back down.
“and you’re not denying it!” you use your body weight to push chishiya down onto the bed, maneuvering your own body over his own. you smile up at him from your position against his chest. “i love you. even when you watch me and my friends like a creep.”
chishiya can’t help the slight chuckle that escapes him as you nuzzle closer against him. he wraps his arms around your waist, leaning down to press a kiss against your forehead. “i love you too.”

Can you write a lovely fluff story between Arisu and female reader who loves get kissed, to get cuddled, to get touched from him (and maybe more) at night?🥰 Maybe something romantic with some kinda sexual parts
♠️ Late night closeness ♠️
A/N: Yo, I'm back and haven't forgot your request yet! As I said in one of my posts, I felt a little sick this one day so I used the next days to recover a little. Plus, I was at work thursday and friday until 6pm, so I was tired and exhausted to be honest. 😬
Nevertheless, here comes your desired story and I hope that you will like it even more. Now that it's finally out. 🫶🏻
Characters: Arisu
POV: fem!reader ; fluff ; slightly sexual content at the end!
Warnings: Includes slightly sexual content, but nothing excessive.
Late at night. To be more precise, it's the perfect time to go to sleep. Just like I always do. Apart from the fact that the surroundings are quiet and empty from dawn to dusk anyway, there is complete darkness all around us. One thing I can't stand since I've been in Borderland. The reason? The red laser beams that shine down from the sky to kill other people whose visas have run out. I know a few idiots who stay up late and look for a higher spot to watch the spectacle. Just to make sure how many will leave this world behind forever - and for sure - today.
Fortunately for me, I also know people who have similar thoughts to mine. People who don't want to see this happen. People who have enough common sense, empathy and decency to look the other way. Call it strength or call it gutlessness.
I want to sleep. Every day, even before the selection takes place. However, my thoughts, which are spinning endlessly in circles, are preventing me from doing so today. My eyes are closed. My back is turned to the window so that I am not even tempted to open my eyes. But as destiny wants it, this shall not be to my disadvantage.
It's a typical time for me to sleep. You lose track of time and space in here, but if I had to guess, it would probably be 10 pm by now. Maybe half past ten at night. So I'm not surprised that the mattress behind me lowers a little, that the blanket is lifted slightly and then gets straightened again. So that I too can enjoy a comfortable and peaceful night's sleep. Just as I deserve- at least according to Arisu.
Arisu and I ... we met here during a game and haven't gone our separate ways ever since. At least not directly. We rarely go to games together for fear that we'll end up in one where we have to kill each other. I know Arisu's story. I know what he's been through. And I don't want him to have to go through it again.
We always promise each other that we'll come back. That we'll meet again at the agreed meeting point and go back to sleep side by side in the evening. The only difference today is that I'm still awake and can therefore feel the dark-haired man snuggling up to me even better.
How he puts his arm around me and presses me closer to him so that my back is pressed tightly against his upper body. As if he's afraid someone might just take me away from him for the night. Or as if he was worried that I would just leave him alone in the middle of the night.
He does that often. Always, actually. Every night when I'm drifting off to sleep. And I like it. Arisu is a shy boy who has a lot of decency as well as respect. He would never do anything against my will or touch someone 'indecently' if he didn't know whether he was allowed to. And even if he was allowed to, he would find it difficult because he wouldn't know how to handle it.
I think he knows that I like this kind of closeness. I'm not sure, but if he pulls me into his arms while I'm sleeping, I think I'll have some reactions that approve of his actions. Be it a smile that creeps onto my lips. It's possible I'll turn towards him to nuzzle my face into the skin of his neck so I can be even closer to him. And then I remember that I once started to giggle a little when Arisu pressed kisses to my cheek, neck and shoulder. I remember, because ... he is doing it again.
"I love it when you try to show me your affection secretly, quietly and silently." As soon as he speaks, I notice how his head shoots up a little and his grip on me loosens. "Surprise, love." I take the chance to turn onto my back in the loose grasp of his arms so that I can see Arisu's face much better- it may be dark, but I don't miss the somewhat indignant look on his silhouette, which makes me laugh a little.
"I thought you were asleep!" he says confusedly, his eyes almost as big as the moon in the sky itself. "How much did you notice...?"
"Everything." Silence. "But I don't think that was enough." I smile up to him, stretching my face a little towards his so that I can give him a little peck on the lips, before staring at him for a second.
"Awkward."
"Awkward?", I asked, bursting into laughter. "What the fuck are calling awkward, Ryohei?! No, that's not!"
"I-It's just ... I thought you sleep, Y/N!" Now he starts giggling himself, so that both of us are just a laughing mess. "You can't pretend just to set a trap for me, that's not how it works!"
"Oh? But it worked very well, don't you think?" It takes a moment for us both to settle down again- until we're both quiet and just smiling to ourselves.
Shortly afterwards, Arisu tightens his grip again and presses me against him once more. He has turned sideways towards me and finally leans his head relaxed against mine. I do the same and start to stroke his arm up and down with one of my hands, while we just lie here together in silence, staring into emptiness. In the soft bed of the tower block that we have made our home for the night.
"I ... actually tried to fall asleep but failed this time." Arisu looks down on me while I look up to him. "It wasn't my plan to trap you, darling. But I have to say, I really do love it, when you cuddle me that much while I'm sleeping, Arisu. And you know, I would be happy when you keep doing this- it makes me feel protected and ... I feel safe in this creepy world when having you by my side." I assume that these words will overwhelm Arisu for a moment, as it's quite a lot at once and … well, very unexpected. "So … I'd be happy if you did that more often. Not just when I'm asleep, but also when I'm awake. I really enjoy your attention and your closeness, so … I think it would be nice if we could build on this ... intimacy." I know it might not be a good attitude.
This is not the world in which you would want to fall in love. We are not in the time warp where you are looking forward to the love of your life, where you want to fall for a person completely and carefree. Here in Borderland, it's a matter of life and death. That's why it might be wrong to tie yourself to one person- morally speaking. But if your heart is yearning and your head is in harmony with it, then it no longer feels as wrong as it really is.
"You know, this ... might getting dangerous, love?", he whispers, making me giving him back a quite "Of course" which makes him sigh a bit. "This … is not something one want to assume, but … you know, it can happen every day that one of us doesn't come back to the other." You can tell from his voice that he feels fear and pain at the thought, which makes me swallow hard- but again I only get out a whispered "I know ...", which should make him realize how seriously I meant what I said to him. "And yet you want me to consciously give you this intimacy?"
"Yes," I said, serious. "Because I love you, Ryohei." This is where I end my caresses on his arm.
Instead, I just look up at him, able to catch his eyes thanks to the light given off by the moon. I notice how his arms wrap around me even tighter in response and I catch myself clawing into the skin of his arm a little, but lightly enough to make sure there's no residue and that I don't accidentally hurt him. He nuzzles his face into my cheek and we close our eyes to enjoy the togetherness for a moment. To forget everything else for just a few seconds.
"I don't think that's something we can decide immediately, Arisu ..."
"There's no need to decide something, I guess." I open my eyes again, looking at him, giving a little "Huh?" right back, before I can catch a smile on his lips. "I ... I cannot deny that I ... like you and that I would very much like to continue to be close to you." I giggle.
"Come here." Without giving it a second thought, I swing myself on top of him and wrap my arms loosely around his neck.
His hands rest on my back from that point on and I make it quick: I pull him into a loving, passionate kiss. I know he needs a moment to realize what's going on, so … I give him the time. And only when he moves his lips against mine do I match his movements and deepen the kiss a little more, burying one of my hands in his mane so that I can push him a little closer to me.
A little later I wander with my lips to his neck, which he frees up for me a little bit by tilting his head to the side. Small kisses are spread over his thin skin before I reach his ear and whisper a soft "Touch me, Arisu ..." into it, making him blush, pretty sure.
"You want me to-"
"I see what you're up to, my love." I'm smiling. "Don't think about it … and just do it." Again I start to work his neck, which makes him hum happily before I add anything else. "When I was sleeping, you weren't afraid to go under my shirt, too." Now I'm laughing.
Because of his shocked "What?!". Because of his big eyes. Because he's a little freaked out all of a sudden.
"How much did you really notice when I thought you were sleeping all this time?!"
"I've been sleeping," I say, "but sometimes I've woken up and just let it pass over me with pleasure~."

— i’ll always find a way to see you, again.
pair : chishiya x fem!reader
summary : you find yourself in a shit position— which is… almost meeting death.
warnings : mentions of pills & self harm— & one mention of nigari.
spoilers : please do not continue reading if you haven’t finished alice in ( the ) boarderland s2 yet! ( under rewriting cuz tumblr deleted half my stuff… )
line divider by : 🫀 !
it was not only that, but you knew you had to win this game— for a fighting chance at love, and for a chance to have friends that meant a lot to you.
mira kano had only one goal, which was to make you forfeit the game— so you couldn’t find the truth, and never return to your world. and you had to admit, she had the skill to make you feel like you never existed; perhaps it was a perk of her being a physicalist. she knew the way around the human body, aka the mind.
no matter how hard you wanted to focus on croquet, she had questions after questions— that targeted towards you and your brother.
“karube left me…” your eyes watered, looking down to see your hands already fidgeting with themselves.
“and how does that make you feel, [y/n]? how did you feel when your big brother left you? to fend for yourself?” mira always had this comforting voice, which compelled you even more to reply to her nonsense.
it wasn’t like he actually left you… one day, you two were playing a game until he had gone his separate way due to the king of spades massive shoot-out. and so, you never saw him again— but he still wanted to protect you, right?
you kept quiet, feeling your eyes water as she slided the pills towards you, following up with a cup of water. “this’ll make you feel better… why don’t you take this and then answer me?” she kept on persisting on you and arisu to take the pills, but usagi didn’t like the idea of that. she knew what mira was trying to do; make you two forfeit so you could lose the game. “you guys, snap out of it! she’s trying to trick you both into forfeiting! please!” usagi yelled, shaking the two of you.
“no— i… it’s true though. maybe he doesn’t actually care about me.. the pills will make me feel better, right?” your eyes darted towards the pills, your hands reaching for them but an abrupt slapped them away from your touch. “[y/n], you can’t! please— come back to me. look at me and tell me that you’re here… with us, with me!”
usagi grabbed your hands, looking up to you— “[y/n]…” she whispered into a crying sob, looking over at arisu who was currently on the floor. “i know you want to escape, [y/n]… just say you quit and you can be free. you may not even be real…” the queen of hearts surely had a way with her words, to the point where it was truely believable to the human mind.
snapping back to reality, you saw usagi holding a piece of glass, placing it near her wrist. “usagi—” your sentence was cut off by her swift movement cutting her wrist to prove that this was real. “usagi!” you yelled, catching her into your arms as you softly placed her on the ground, your lap as a pillow for her head. “just win this for me and arisu… i want the chance to shop at the mall with you, do our taxes together, and maybe when do mountain climbing…” as each second grew, her voice declined more into a little rasp. this is when you knew you had to win, for them.
“i still want to play, mira! i want to do the last round!” within a heartbeat, you stood up holding the croquet stick. “as you wish,” her lips quivered into a small smile, holding hers straight.
positioning yourself, you aimed your stick towards one of the ball so it could enter through the little hoops, and to your success it did. and as said, the game would go on for about 3 hours— which meant… you made it towards the end. you finally beat the final face game. the queen of hearts.
even so, listening to her goodbye speech made you realize something… life was too short, and it was sure risk taking. in addition to that, there were two choices— to either decline or accept staying in the current world you were in.
as caption obvious, you all said decline. you wanted to go to your world that you could see all your friends, but possibly, not see your current ones that you trusted as of now. it was apart of the choice though, to take that chance.
you rushed down the building, sprinting your way towards chishiya, ignoring nigari ( BOOO, 🍅 ). “hey, you actually did it.” his lips curled into a smirk, his eyes squinting at the bright light. “please shut up and just fucking decline the offer, shuntaro.” you held onto his hand, still looking over at his wound. he let out a little chuckle, tightening the grip onto your hold. “i decline,”
chishiya pulled you closer, letting you lean on his chest with ease. but everything felt weird as the fireworks went off, and it ended off with you dozing off and ending up in a new place. your world, that you all knew.
“[y/n], come!” your friends called you over, waving at this outside cafe area. “coming!” you yelled back, jogging over to see their smiles. “so, did you hear? kai’s university was struck down by a meteor… and thank god he’s still beside us!” one of them spoke, but it seemed like another thing was catching their attention.
“you mean that one…?”
and that’s a wrap! like for part 2 :) cuz’ this definitely took a long time and now i have courage to write for aib! remember to request a specific asks if you have one— for a quick reminder, i do write for marvel, aib, and some anime’s.
bruh i gave up cuz tumblr DELETED HALF MY PARAFRAPHS 😭 this is all y’all get IM SO SORRY

here, have this unfinished render that was supposed to be completely different but my pc decided to stop cooperating with me
saw a gif of that vampire guy from baldur's gate over on twitter going absolutely feral on some person on the floor and got instantly inspired to do something similar with rhack (featuring Vasquez' Rhys' company car)
#last render before new pc I guess?#SPrenders#rhack#handsome jack#rhys strongfork#borderlands#yeah that first shot is a reference to mad max cause it's been ingrained into my brain from when I tried to draw it that one time#it was inevitable that I'd include my fav movie into one of my renders
