My Favorite Coming of Age Movies
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)- One of the only rom-coms out there that I don’t feel guilty about loving. Its also one of the only rom-coms that I find laugh out loud funny, and where I genuinely really like both the protagonist and the love interest (I feel like at least one of them typically annoys me).
Booksmart (2019)- Great characters, and a fun new version of a pretty classic plot. It’s extremely funny, and highly enjoyable.
Easy A (2010)- Honestly one of my all time favorite comedies. Emma Stone is an absolute icon, and Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson play the best parents known to cinema.
Eighth Grade (2018)- My god is this movie painful to watch. Prepare to cringe the whole way through, but it’s also quite sweet, and easily the most accurate depiction of middle school I’ve ever seen.
Lady Bird (2017)- The hype is real for this one. Saorise Ronan is amazing. It makes you laugh, tugs at your heartstrings, and does an incredible job depicting the high school experience.
Moonrise Kingdom (2012)- I love Wes Anderson’s style. If you generally aren’t a fan of his work, you won’t be a fan of this one either. But if you’re a fan of his cinematography, campiness, and awkward humor, this one’s for you. It’s a great summer movie.
Stand By Me (1986)- What a classic. It’s nostalgic, poignant, and funny. For me, this is a movie that defines the genre.
The Edge of Seventeen (2016)- Hailee Steinfeld and Woody Harrelson made a hilarious duo. Similar to the other movies on this list, it’s funny, relatable, and slightly heartbreaking in just the right way.
The Kings of Summer (2013)- This ones an underrated gem. It’s a bit of an acquired taste, but overall it’s a great experience. The atmosphere is amazing, and it’ll bring you back to your childhood summers.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)- God I love this movie. It’s incredibly heartbreaking, and the acting is great (especially from Logan Lerman)! Yes I cry every single time, no not at the part you’d think.

Propaganda under the cut
Granny Puckett
if hoodwinked wasnt so obscure i truly think she would be a tumblr icon. she has a baking imperium she does extreme sports she saved red riding hood and the forest by blowing shit up. defeats capitalism.
voiced by glenn close
Granny Weatherwax
She's good but not nice, she's a witch, in the maiden/mother/crone trio she's the crone, she's powerful and intelligent (although not booksmart), she's an inspiration and a terror to everyone in Discworld.
The Hag ‘o Hags, she is the leader of her small coven in Lancre holding the role of “crone”.
She’s saved the world many times, with tea and bees and other haggish delights.

dbda fic snippet : 'never been kissed'
“I would very much enjoy watching this film with you.”
Niko smiled. But then… “Or,” she said, “what if we lived it?”
Edwin frowned slightly, his brow knitting. “Lived it? The…” He waved a hand, loosely and vaguely, confusion lining all of his features.
“Yeah!” Niko pressed her hands together in front of her body. “Like, lived the teenage dream.”
Edwin looked disgusted. “Like that horrid song that Crystal did that godawful dance to?”
“It was Katy Perry, and she’s not horrid. She’s kind of iconic, honestly, though she and Taylor Swift did have this beef for a while. But I think they worked it out, so she’s cool again.”
Edwin blinked, clearly not caring about this extremely old celebrity drama.
“But that’s not what I’m saying. You know. Sneaking out, causing trouble. Clubbing, partying. Kissing. Maybe drinking, if we can manage to find some-”
“Niko, you are a ghost. You cannot drink.” Edwin’s voice was matter-of-fact.
Niko rolled her eyes. “Come on. There have to be supernatural nightclubs for ghosts and… and other things.”
Edwin raised both eyebrows, but his expression was otherwise relatively inexpressive.
“It’ll be fun. We can be, like…” she thought back to all the movies they had seen before. “Like Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink, or teenagers in more recent releases. Like the kids on the boat in Booksmart, or the friends in Heartstopper.” She paused. “Look, I know you might not like the idea of a nightclub. But maybe we could give it a try! It could be a ton of fun, and if you hate it, we’ll just leave.”
Edwin looked down at his hands. They were tightly fisted against his knees, which he was resting them on as he sat cross-legged. “Well,” he said finally, “I do like Heartstopper.”
Niko beamed and scooted over to Edwin. “I’m pumped,” she said, resting her head on his shoulder.
“Yes, well,” Edwin said, nudging her, “do not do anything silly as you lie in wait for our excursion.”

seungkwan best friend headcanons <3
a/n: another post for another lovely anon ! seungkwan is, as we all know, an icon, and i'm very envious of anyone and everyone that gets to call him their best friend !!! pics not mine <3
content: fluff | wc: 0.8k | warnings: none! | pairing: bestfriend!seungkwan x gn!reader | requests: open
Tumblr media Tumblr media
seungkwan, through and through, is your number one
he's the kind of friend that just immediately feels important because he Gets. It.
when you two are together, you're actually unstoppable
like two baddies one porsche can exist in the same room and that's you and seungkwan !!!
tbh if you are going to a party, hangout, event, etc together, he will want to coordinate outfits
"i don't care if it's lunch with seokmin-hyung and soonyoung-hyung we HAVE. TO. SERVE."
and serve you will!!!
he will also serve you plenty of iconic reactions during that lunch because booseoksoon is the trifecta of comedy and seungkwan's role is reminding everyone how insane dk and hoshi are lmao
he just LOVES exaggerating his facial expressions and reactions when he gets secondhand embarrassment
if you are the one who embarrasses him, which happens from time to time, he will never let you live it down
any time one of his members comments on how you're cool/funny/smart/etc seungkwan will start listing every uncool, not funny, dumb, and embarrassing thing you've ever done
he's even including your preteen embarrassing stories like ??? why is he trusted with these secrets they're simply ammunition
good luck trying to bring up any time he's made a fool of himself or replying to his roasts by using memes of him via text or by holding up your phone during the conversation that's what i would do
in response to your efforts, he will double down. you and your pride are not making it out of this conversation alive
like boy!!! shutup
but he will not. his love language is making fun of you <3 and calling you cute but that one's usually done behind your back because he doesn't want it to go to your head
he does want to build you up though. in a very genuine way, he wants you to be confident in who you are and he will destroy anyone and anything who gets in the way of that!!
he leans on you for that too
no matter what's on his mind or where he's at, he knows he can go to you for comfort and reassurance
he's also the kind of friend who is SO real with you
like he won't sugarcoat things and will be honest with you so you don't get into any situation/mindset that's bad for you
he's very thoughtful in his honesty, and he never gives any criticism without it being constructive
but he values your trust so he wants to repay that by being transparent and telling you what you need to hear, even if it's not what you want to hear
and because he works so hard to be that real with you, you naturally adopt that approach too
any time he comes to you with a question, high-stakes or low-stakes, he can expect 100% honesty
you two really just hold each other up <3
it's like the dynamic in booksmart when the girls are dramatically complimenting each other like THAT'S the energy you and seungkwan have
it's a friendship serve! it's a friendship slay!
he's always inviting you to do stuff
going to a party? you're invited. going shopping? you're invited. going across the street to get a coffee? you're invited.
he just loves being in your presence and wants to hang out as much as he can between both of your schedules
like whenever he's with you he's having the time of his life
sure a lot of the time he shows it by rolling his eyes at you or deadpanning to anyone in the vicinity / the imaginary camera
but when he sees you he just goes :D because that's his bestie right there!!!!
y'all jam out together
karaoke is a state of mind
and seungkwan is the embodiment of that
he's the kind of best friend you blast lizzo with while you're dancing around the living room in your pjs
speaking of pjs
he actually loves sleepovers
like even if you can't spend the night together, he wants optimal sleepover activities and energy whenever possible
he probably buys you matching fuzzy hairbands to wear while you do sheet masks and watch movies :,-) they're ridiculous and that's why you love them :,-)
will take seventeen quizzes with you and laugh his ass off no matter which member you get assigned. unless it's him. then he is BEAMING with pride
and he will brag about it to every single one of his members, saying wow! my impact! so powerful!
if you're there when he's bragging, you absolutely need to drag him on how you're morphing into him because you're losing brain cells or something
seventeen will die laughing and praise you like the champion you are
meanwhile seungkwan goes from shocked to angry to impressed to proud
because once again he's thinking "that's my best friend right there!!!!"
all in all, seungkwan is the kind of bestie who makes you laugh harder than anyone else, and he's someone you can trust more than anyone else :,-)
he's loyal, caring, funny, and ready to fight at all times <3 good luck <3
seungkwan hmu if you're free this weekend we can get iced americanos and blast 00s pop music !!!

Monster High Reimagined
Jackson Jekyll/Holt Hyde character bio/Redesign.
Jackson Jekyll/Holt Hyde (he-him/he-they)
(Unlabelled)
The hybrid human/Oni child of the Jekyll-Hydes,a mixed Human/Oni family.
(Mixed English-Barbadian and Japanese)
The twin latest descendants of Dr jekyll, due to his half-oni parentage,Jacksons rendition of the family "curse" manifests differently to the other ancestors on his human mothers side, with the "Hyde" side of him manifesting as his brother,Holt, who the introverted and booksmart jackson feels he stands in the shadow of,nevertheless maybe being inducted into the friend group of their (self appointed) lab partner frankie stein will give this mad scientist/Oni duo the chance to know other people, and possibly each other a little better…
Likes: (mad) science, stop motion animation and (often increasingly) spicy food/ DJing at gigs, mythology and folktales and music theory/ 80s movies and cricket/baseball.
Dislikes: Deafeningly loud environments, feeling out of place and experiments going wrong/ awkward silence, hot sauce and alcohol/ people underestimating them, and (human) dentists.
Killer style: As with most things ,jackson and holts dress styles are utterly unlike each other's in terms of colour (Holt preferring blue, orange and black and jackson white, yellow and green) style and the like, which is a somewhat unfortunate situation since both feel awkward in the other's respective look (jackson preferring a more preppy,emo-inspired getup and holt casual, colourful clothing). With the help of frankie's friend Clawdeen however, the brothers have devised several items of clothing that both can wear without needing to tediously change their entire outfit every time either one is in control.
Familiar: Crossfade,a chameleon and living proof of one of the rare instances where both brothers agreed on something, that being that he makes for an awesome pet, despite some of their peers saying he's a bit boring compared to their more exotic or fantastical critters.
Pet Peeve: A lot of the time, each other! Turns out not only can having one brother complaining and snarking in the proverbial "backseat" in your head whilst your in control of everything else be super irritating, but it can be super inconvenient when outside factors cause one to wrest over control to the other, especially when one sibling is deep in focus on a particular passion of theirs only to get forcibly ejected.
Freaky Flaw: Because of the external pressures the boys each face, both Jackson and Holt have a tendency to "tune out" as it were and throw themselves into their hobbies to the point of sometimes injuring themselves, which has happened more times than both would like to admit despite the durability afforded to them as half-oni.
Spooky Secret: both brothers slightly envy the other, with Jackson wishing he had a bit of Holts sociability so the feeling of FOMO in the back of his head would stop being so nagging and Holt in turn wishing he was a little more booksmart like Jackson,if only so the adults in his life would stop telling him about him "wasting his potential".
Dream job: Jackson would prefer a quiet, uneventful career as a scientific researcher or archivist, while Holt wants to live the loud globetrotting life of an in-demand DJ,this disconnect unfortunately further adding to the tension between the two of them.
Five Fearsome Facts:
Both brothers are massive movie buffs, with many 80s science fiction, fantasy and horror films being among their favourites. Jackson in particular being engrossed in the films practical effects and the many behind the scenes stories about how they were devised, whilst Holt Is often more appreciative of the sound design and iconic soundtracks that in his opinion adds a unique atmosphere and tone to each movie.
In addition to this, Jackson,an avowed lover of stop motion animation, spends a lot of the time not doing mad science making his own short stop motion movies and uploading them to his Bootube channel. Naturally the methodically paced process bores Holt out of his mind,a feeling Jackson himself experiences in return during the long hours Holt spends editing and mixing music for his gigs.
Both boys are ADHD/Autistic,but unlike many of their friends, they were undiagnosed up until starting high school. Because of this, both boys went through school isolated and instead threw themselves into their interests, especially whenever they got frustrated with themselves or each other.
Among the many things shared by jackson and holt are a set of taste buds. This wouldn't be a problem if not for Jacksons love of coating his food with increasingly spicier hot sauces, much to the woe of the ironically heat-intolerant holt, who is left to grovel in the backseat as it were throughout jacksons "experiments" with said condiments.
While he considers himself a scientist through and through, since starting at monster high jackson has also gained an interest in the arcane arts (despite,or perhaps because of the dangerous aspects of their study and use), comparatively Holt is less than pressed about the use of magic, preferring to use his skill as a dj show as opposed to using what he sees as simply flashy space-fillers to get a crowd dancing.
OK so compared to the last few profiles I've done this one is more a general overhaul to Jackson/Holts concept if anything
Firstly, their nonhuman parent is an Oni instead of a "fire elemental," namely because I'm surprised their wasn't an Oni character already (tbh I could go on a whole tangent about the lack of yokai characters in mh but that discussion/rant is for another day)
As for how their monster powers work, their persona swapping thing comes from their human mother and grandmother and their more fantastical features (short horns and tusks ect ect) from their oni mother. (Their design is also somewhat influenced by West Indian myths of the Soucouyant/Hag,which I've referenced by making them a quarter Barbadian)
Also in terms of how their gimmick "works", jackson and holt don't "black out" when the other is in control like in G1,but while one is in control the other can't really do anything but provide snarky/worried commentary. (If anything It's kinda comparative to how Venom and Eddie work in those movies if you've seen them)
Anyways, see you for the next one.

Velma Dinkley
Velma is a WLW, no question, no doubt, no argument. Debatably she might also be attracted to other genders but she just gives me demi vibes overall.
Look at me. Look me in the eye. Velma is not the braincell of the Mystery Gang. Velma believes in the Loch Ness Monster. Velma knows all the ways ghost hunting shows trick their viewers and still has ate up all the content with hope. Velma Dinkley is booksmart but her most checked out books on the library are about whether aliens are out there, the stone tape theory of hauntings, and curses. She is not the braincell. The entire gang passes the braincell around like a blunt she’s just the one rolling it the majority of the time.
I believe she’s implied to be Jewish in enough incarnations that I consider that mandatory.
Her parents do also run a bookstore that she worked off and on between school breaks as a kid. It made for excellent research hours when the library was closed,
I raise you; Scooby Snacks are Kosher. Cause why not.
As a fellow bottlecap framed blind bitch she definitely cannot see anything without her glasses and if she’s ever going to be able to get another eye appointment she probably needs to spring for spares and keep them in the van’s glove compartment.
Mandatory Horrible Bullshit Output show race rant; again magically making her any race does little, making her any race with an inferiority complex about it is horrible and should be shamed, etc etc. But Velma is black to me for one reason and one reason only; after 20 long years I was able to dress up as her for Halloween and I want to feel seen. Otherwise you do you just don’t be weird about it.
She should still be cynical sure but she’s not mean about it. Like, she’s no Janis from mean girls, she’s just healthily critical of even the things she loves and that’s fine.
I also think she’s supposed to be the youngest gang member because I get that vibe but I believe in ambiguity.
Favorite Velma is from Scooby Doo Where’s My Mummy. Hands down. I mean look at her go! Living her best life as an archaeologist, assisting with Sphinx restoration, even playing the long con and planning her own mystery to screw over treasure hunters! It’s icon behaviour and I would die for her.
Unpopular opinion though is that I am far from a fan of her Mystery Incorporated incarnation… I just had to be honest and get that off my chest. Her treatment of Shaggy in the early seasons badly turned me off the show and not even her relationship with Marcie could save it for me. Like I loved the hairbows, I loved the Hex Girls stanning, I wanted to love it. But they did her and Shaggy so dirty and it hurts me.
Again, just don’t make her treat her friends badly and you’ve got a good Velma. The Gang is their own found family, they don’t have to always get along but they should never treat each other like shit no matter what.

Mal I can’t believe you like stony I trusted you sigh…
anon....why you not like stony? 🥺 ((are you a stucky shipper?)) jkjk...unless...?
If you actually wanna know tho...
...it's simply the most compelling, contrasting, fraught, potential-filled relationship ever written/depicted (i wish i was exaggerating).
I'm ngl, I typed this whole thing and then it got deleted. So I might not be able to fully do this a second time smh. But here we go.
Whenever i was bored/in the depths of my stony/marvel obsession, I would make a list in my head of all the reasons Steve and Tony were perfect for one another in case anyone disagreed with me. I don't think I can remember all the reasons, but I'm gonna do my best (this mostly addresses their MCU depictions, since that's what I know best):
Their personalities are so complementary- steve is the more heart-on-his-sleeve, honest, dependable, disciplined, noble, street-smart, but also a bit naive, idealist and tony is the cynical, issues-with-authority, arrogant, sarcastic, hard-outer-shell, booksmart, realist. They're sooo different from one another, but at their core, they both want to make the world a better place and they both place more importance on others' lives over their own, altho their motivations come from diff places. It's hard for them to see that at first though bc they're both so stubborn and judge one another on superficial things. But when they do recognize it, they have so much respect for one another.
The age difference.............is hot! And here's why: you can make a case that either of them is actually older than the other... (iykyk) Tony has been awake & aging longer, but Steve was born in the 40s so... who really knows!?
Height difference.
Sexual experience difference (tony -> playboy, steve -> virgin??)
The banter. The Banter!!!
They both have daddy issues. Shared trauma, but also separate traumas that they can help each other through
And along with the daddy thing is the fact that Steve knew Tony's father?? And that Howard helped create/provide Steve's iconic shield? It factors into the daddy issues and the assumptions they make about one another bc Steve expects Tony to be like Howard and Tony resents Steve for the way Howard idolized Steve/Cap.
Steve's shield is vibranium and Tony's arc reactor is powered by vibranium. Idk, that shit is just poetic.
"Big man in a suit of armor. Take that off, what are you?" "Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist." "I know guys with none of that worth ten of you... The only thing you really fight for is yourself. You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play - to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you." "I think I would just cut the wire." "Always a way out. You know you may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero." "A hero? Like you? You're a laboratory experiment, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle."
(^NO ONE riles steve or tony up more, and what is that if not sexual tension, i mean...??)
Their nickname game is so strong - Tony is always nicknaming Cap, which is a sign of affection from him (Rhodey, Pep, Happy). Also in the 616 universe, I think they called each other Winghead and Shellhead which ?!?! so cute.
There's a literal universe of comics where steve and a female version of tony/iron man are in love and get married...
"Mr. Rogers, I almost forgot - that suit did nothing for your ass."
Stony has some of the best fan fiction i've EVER read. I want some of those fics inscribed on my tombstone actually (not sorry)
Aaaaand I'm losing steam (especially after typing this a second time lmao). But all of this to say, I used to be a stucky shipper (as evidenced by my ao3 works), but then The Avengers (2012) came out and changed everything for me. There's just something about stony - the equal potential for them to destroy one another/complete one another - that is just... 🤌🏻 There's passion there.
Superhusbands!!! 😍

there hasn't been a cult classic teen movie in years. the edge of seventeen and booksmart were well received but not iconic. do revenge was popular in a flash in the pan way, way more than others but it could have been way better
I haven’t seen Do Revenge yet (but I wasn’t compelled enough to watch it yet and I feel like that says something since on paper it ticks a lot of my boxes) but agreed about the others. We need one that’s edgy and not going to get anywhere near the Oscars! Granted I haven’t seen them in years but I was lukewarm on Booksmart and Edge of Seventeen both 🤐 I guess time will tell if some of these will stand up though, like Heathers and Jennifer’s Body and Saved! weren’t necessarily universally loved but are cult classics. (Saved! is underappreciated imo.) But yeah. I feel like the last one that was really a cult classic potential (too early IMO to say! Needs a decade or two to marinate before it’s a classic) besides the ones I mentioned before (Lady Bird and 20th Century Women) was The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It’s partially cringey, partially heart wrenching, fully iconic. Not set in present day though. I also think Everybody Wants Some!! was really really good, it’s more of a college Dazed and Confused (and another period piece) but sooo good. Boyhood is the other! Definition of growing up in the late 90s/2000s imo. Not a traditional coming of age movie. Your point still stands completely btw, this is just my stream of consciousness. We’re definitely lacking in GOOD teen movies that push boundaries and are genuinely funny and heartfelt.

Ok, I am curious, could you elaborate please?
2 brothers, the younger generally more booksmart one with brown hair, and the older blond streetsmart one with a taste for the finer things in life, go on adventures together in their iconic vehicle solving mysteries, fixing problems, and getting into situations generally dealing with relatively the same thing and saving the day by putting their heads together and figuring things out(also with the powers of friendship, teamwork, and brotherly love.
Not to mention the recurring villain characters who on occasion actually do help out a little bit.
Supernatural, is just Wild Kratts but with adult themes and monsters instead of creatures.

Don’t Worry Darling
“Don’t Worry Darling” was a movie I was initially excited about, but then the drama and bad reviews ruined my excitement, and I ended up putting off this movie for months.
Alice Chambers is a housewife who is in an extremely loving relationship with her husband, Jack. Everything seems to be perfect until one day, one of the neighborhood wives, Margret, starts going down the deep end. She becomes an outcast for going out into the desert they were forbidden to go to with her son, resulting in her losing her son. Now Alice is starting to see the cracks in her reality and thinks Jack’s boss, Frank, has something to do with it.
When I first saw this trailer, I instantly wanted to watch it. Florence Pugh is great in everything she’s in. Harry Style was surprisingly good in “Dunkirk” and I was looking forward to seeing his potentially budding career in Hollywood. Gemma Chan and Chris Pine are also actors who I know from high-quality works, so this was shaping up to be a movie filled with powerful performances. I also love the idea of an idyllic 1950s suburbia hiding something sinister under the surface. After watching the trailer for the first time, my mind was racing about all the different reasons why the strange happenings were going on in the movie. Maybe the husbands were working on some Manhattan Project-level machine that was changing the fabric of reality. During the lead-up to the movie, I couldn’t escape the behind-the-scenes drama of this movie. I was scared that it would negatively impact this movie. Then the reviews started pouring in and it was clear that this movie was a flop. This was enough for me to lose interest in it entirely and catch it if it was ever convenient for me. After watching the movie, I can say that the reviews were right. The majority of the movie had nothing for me to latch onto. I knew something was off about the world, but a majority of this movie kept reiterating that something was off about the world. It doesn’t do what other great mystery movies do and slowly peel back the layers for an eventual answer. Instead, the movie seemed content with just leaving the layers alone and then unenthusiastically ripping off all the layers at once. What was left was uninspired, to say the least. The big twist is contrived and also not thought out at all. It left me with more questions than answers, and definitely not in a good way. The questions are more about how the ending wouldn’t make sense for a myriad of reasons within the context that was given. Then, all the aspects that were never given any context just seem to be planted to make the movie more enigmatic. It sucks too since I was loving the 1950s aesthetics and the score. They would’ve been iconic supplementary parts of the film if the story was actually good. It also sucks because Florence Pugh was giving it her all with her performance. She’s carrying the movie on her back and if it weren’t for her, this movie would easily be two stars from me. After watching the movie, I found out that Olivia Wilde made “Booksmart” which was a movie I enjoyed quite a lot. Maybe she’s better off sticking to comedy for the time being because mystery thrillers are definitely not her strong suit.
★★★
