This week's Lit on A Quarrel of Feasts comes from my all time favorite, Mr. Henry Miller and Henry Miller: The Paris Years by the great photographer and friend to Henry Miller, Brassai (Gyula Halasz).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Henry's life lived at full volume is just as important to me as his writing. He indulged in all he could, and appreciated every single moment. This book is a look at Henry's Paris years, when he escaped poverty in NY to find poverty in Montmartme, but also a time and place where he felt filthy rich in the best of ways.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Miller was also amazed by the bistros, the zincs (cafe countertops), the charcoal, and those little masterpieces of popular art, lovingly hand drawn and displayed daily: the restaurant menus. For awhile he even collected them. They spoke not only to his eyes but to his nostrils and to his 'innards.' The names of the dishes, the cheeses, and especially the wines exerted an almost magical power over him.
