Will you have more of the physical comics available in the future? Ko-fi wouldn’t let me pay and by the time it was fixed the comics were all sold out.
OH!
I genuinely wasn't expecting them to sell out!! I've added the reminder of my Extinction and Wolvendaughter stock and they are now available for purchase; I ran out of Morphologies though, and will need to run a reprint.
#I had 100 books each and just split them 50/50 for online and con sales and I thought I won't even sell that much online aa THANK YOU EVERYO#EVERYONE#ver talks some

Sorry if this is an annoying question, but how is the scarlet witch comic doing with sales right now? I’m worried it might get canceled because of a tweet the writer posted like a year or more ago that the series wasn’t doing too hot (apologies if this is too vague). That being said I’m not going to buy any of the comics due to the boycott.
You are no less capable than me of looking up sales information on your own.
As far as I know, the book is guaranteed another six issues, including this month's. There are listings for up to #10, plus the trade paperback. It's too soon to say what will happen after that-- it's almost half a year away. We probably won't get a clear idea of what's next until February, January at the earliest.
Generally speaking, books like Scarlet Witch-- a solo title for a character who, popular though she may be, has never had a long-form ongoing series-- are always in danger of getting cancelled. Sales are a big part of that, but it's honestly pretty arbitrary. I do remember Orlando saying, pretty early in the run, that he wasn't sure how long the series would go for, and reminding readers that preorders are the best way to guarantee its longevity. That might sound grim, but it's unfortunately pretty normal. I believe in this case, it was in response to a fan question along the lines of "will we see so-and-so," with the answer being, "if the series runs long enough and there's time to include them, but it's too soon to promise anything." Again, that's a standard outlook for this type of book.
So, if you're thinking of a post from last year, that might be what you're remembering. It doesn't mean the book was doing poorly, only that keeping the sales numbers up is, unfortunately vital. And right now, if you count both volumes of SW, plus Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver, Orlando's run is set to break a record at 24 issues, and has been consistently in publication for two and half years, with only a brief hiatus in the middle. That's the longest ongoing title Wanda's ever had, by a significant margin. I think that's a sign of success, and I'm grateful for it, no matter where it ends. I wish more people were focused on that.
I do think that relaunching the series in the middle was a mistake, and it definitely makes the numbers look worse than they are. The most recent issues have not been top sellers, but that decline is not unusual at this point in a longer run. But people on social media, particularly twitter, have a really bad attitude about this book and are constantly going out of their way to create a negative atmosphere in the fandom. Fearmongering that the book will be cancelled is absolutely a part of that. It's not worth engaging with.
#i don't have sales numbers off the top of my head but i know you can find them online if you look. But I genuinely don't have enough insight#to accurately compare digital sales vs print.#And I have no way of knowing how likely a book is to get cancelled-- even based on numbers-- bc it is famously arbitrary and often quite#unfair

I saw a video where someone said that (if you're doing photography as a hobby, not as a career) the camera that makes you want to take more pictures and want to use that camera all the time is the best camera to buy, and for most people that might not be the most expensive, decked out camera out there.
and that advice really applies to most things, doesn't it? anyway, much like how I basically always turn to marie kondo's "does this spark joy?" question when it comes to Things, the above lesson is something that I think I'll take as a guiding principle whenever I'm spending hours on youtube watching product reviews because I want to buy a Thing but I don't know what model of the Thing I want to buy.
yes the Thing looks cool, but will it actually make me want to do [reason I'm buying the Thing for] more frequently? will it make me fall in love with the process of Using The Thing?
#mine musings#anyway past me made a good decision apparently because a couple of years ago i decided#i probably will use an instax more than a digital camera#because i like the process of point-and-shoot than figuring out manual settings and composition#something about the analog experience is more fun to me even though the pictures aren't always perfect but like. that's also the charm#plus i'm not even active on social media enough that i never even think to post pictures online#anyway i posted all this because i saw that there was an SX-70 on sale and that camera just always seemed so cool to me#but like. realistically i will never use it much because polaroid films are way more expensive AND not accessible where i live#i can find instax film easily but not polaroid#anyway yeah engage with the Things you own#use your only-for-special-occassion clothes more often#annotate your books (if you're an annotator which i guess not everyone is. but it's fun)

people can have whatever personal taste they want obviously and this is NOT about whether people like certain themes or motifs personally but
i think it's funny that people latch onto "tropes" that barely exist outside of online gay spaces as being overdone and write up condescending posts like OHH WOOOW DEVOTIONAL CANNIBALISM? WHY DONT YOU THROW IN SOME DOG IMAGERY TOO when it's like name one mainstream piece of media that does this if it's so overdone in actual literature/film/etc. oh you can't name any immediately besides nbc hannibal? almost as if you're just making fun of amateur writers trying to do purple prose on their tumblr blogs? very interesting
#like don't get me wrong as an enjoyer of these motifs it does hurt me to see them done badly#but this is why we have groupchats lol#like publicly mocking people for writing about things they like#kind of sucks actually. kind of is loser behavior to be needlessly mean online if you're above the age of 17#and totally different if we are criticizing published books and media FOR SALE#but that is not what those posts are ever talking about lmao#or to clarify obviously consumption as devotion and dog motifs and the divine etc are established on their own#but i mean the cocktail of ''''tropes''''' these types of posts all lump together in combination#are not usually something you see uh oversaturated in mainstream media#lmfao

you know i don't use amazon but something i often think about. several years ago my mom ordered me some books for my birthday on amazon and one of them i asked for was the oxford world's classics edition of the rover and other plays by aphra behn edited and with an introduction by jane spencer. it was supposedly new but when it got to me, the cover (paperback) was folded at an angle and the edges of the pages were dirty like they were left somewhere contaminated. and you see i don't mind like a not-pristine book at all; most of my books are used. but what the fuck was that.
#that's still the edition i read out of and everything but wtf#i get that it is not a popular book at all#it probably has been sitting in the warehouse for a very long time#how is amazon treating their rare-selling inventory? that things get neglected like that?#i suppose it's a bit of a bummer bc it's damaged and i could've had a nice new one#but i never made a fuss or anything#tales from diana#fun fact it is listed as the 593456th best-selling book on amazon#act fast!!!!! grab a copy now!!!!!!!#no but you really should grab a copy. aphra behn's works are so under-recognized for how influential they were#and they're just funny fucking plays. the feigned courtesans? bruh#its the 880219th best-selling book according to barnes and noble's website#their awful 30-dollar gilded leather paperweight of the complete works of shakespeare (w no notes and unreadably small text)#is 2429th in sales. when it deserves to be negative a millionth#srsly the existence of that book pisses me off since it CANNOT be a good way to be introduced to his works#if anything it must be so frustrating. if u are someone or theres someone in your life curious abt shakespeare buy any other edition#it's not hard to find the arden or the oxford or the riverside shakespeare etc. for less than $30 secondhand online#or buy the plays individually or rent them from a library if you're just getting your feet wet/don't want a big unwieldy tome#literally that gigantic copy-paste w no new or useful supplementary material they've been selling for years. i cant imagine#how many ppl have bought it and tried to read through it and been so discouraged. makes me sad honestly#and frankly. on top of it. their design is just so ugly#there's no thought in it at all it's just a fancy pattern w a first folio engraving smacked onto the center. yawn#my riverside shakespeare 1973 is in really rough physical condition but the vestiges of its beautiful design remain#and that's that on that#also if there's anyone in your life who is interested in shakespeare please also turn them onto aphra behn. pls and thank you

She collected men, the way the sea, collects forgotten shipwrecks.
So desperate to be loved, to be touched, covered in thorns, even a sociopath, can resemble a woman.
I stared deep into her eyes, and saw a thousand, broken souls, devoured by the same lies.
Shipwrecks

Partner decided they wanted to go to ikea today and I'm not one to turn down a trip to the labyrinth of interesting things. Managed to get the shoe cabinet we wanted as well as a coat rack. Found a very cheap but very nice small bookshelf for an awkward area of the work room. Partner wanted some sound proofing things for their office for recording purposes, so they for sound dampening tiles and a rug. I'm pretty sure the cabinet I've been drooling over is about to be discontinued and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Tomorrow I need to work on the Christmas stuff (decorations for the tree and sorting out ceramic village boxes and measuring the space under the stairs again), hang some prints I framed this weekend, and start building furniture if there's time.
#birdy tries to be a good adult#i also bought a small throw rug that looks like fake animal fur#I'm planning to use to as part of a cover on a chair i have but i might use it in a costume eventually#partner didn't seem thrilled about it#but considering everything the was exclusively mine or for the house was still way less than their stuff#they don't get a say in my stupid little twenty dollar rug#i did also do some online shopping to get some things I've been needing#and some frivolous things because why not#bought a limited edition signed anniversary copy of a book i love that i never thought I'd have a change to buy#thought for sure it would have sold it before going on general sale so that made me very very happy#it was much cheaper than i expected too and was well below my maximum price willingness#and i stocked up on cat supplies and got them a new bed that they absolutely hate so that's a plus i guess

Did some fucking masterful salesmanship towards the end of my shift that netted the company a big ten-ish quid. All in a day's work.
#basically someone came in looking for a zip for a cropped corset top that her daughter bought#which she had worn once and the zip it came with immediately broke#but my colleague said that we don't sell separating zips that short#and in fact no one does except this one guy in the city centre who makes zips himself#so the customer was very disappointed that she now had to trek all the way into the city#and I said 'what I would do is take the zip out and put in some ribbon in an appropriate colour and sew on some hooks and eyes'#which we have in abundance#so I found her a ribbon that was a good colour match (the top was an olive green satin fabric)#and a packet of silver hooks and eyes and some green embroidery floss#heroically saving her from taking the train into town#and getting the sale for us and not yer man in the city centre#my colleague and the customer were suitably awed by this quick thinking and creative problem solving#and both agreed that hooks and eyes would look much nicer than a horrible old zip#I am going to get a good grade in retail: a thing that is normal to want and possible to achieve#honestly though they are so fucking lucky to have me at [workplace]#I give great customer service and I am very knowledgable in craft-related areas#and the curtain stuff is coming to me!#it's not rocket surgery#I ordered a blind today all by myself using the manufactorer's online portal#although I did get the manager to double check everything before I converted it to an order and booked it in#so that if I had made any mistakes that she had cosigned them lol#but yeah I am such a good little cog in the capitalist machine#of Big Ribbon™#werq bitch
