And, you're right. In fact, that's exactly what I was going to bring up, "hate the sin, love the sinner."

Though, I will say that what I'd been intending to say was that "if" he encourages these things. And, unfortunately, that's exactly what I've seen in some cases. As in, there are those who actively worship him FOR that reason. Which is specifically the thing that I had in mind when I typed that out.

In my mind, he's an opportunist. And, if he believes that something will keep someone from God's grace, then he will utilize it.

While yes, I don't support such things, I also believe that people should have the choice to live how they wish & if doing these things truly make people happy, then that's them.

The thing is that, Christianity tries to separate the sin from the sinner. In that, we are called to hate the sin itself, but not the person who committed it & I believe that not a lot of people seem to realize that.

At the same time, I specifically feel like this view is important in the case of creating a bot inspired by an individual such as him. And, unfortunately, to make something as accurate as possible, it may require taking into account some very harsh things.

For one that, from his theoretical perspective, that's what these things are. Destroying a person's chance at redemption.

The thing about Link killing ganon in tww, is that he just didn't kill ganondorf, he killed one of the most sympathetic/humanized versions of him. At the tender age of 12 at that.

What I kinda love about Wind Waker Ganondorf is while he is the most sympathetic and forlorn Ganons, the Link of that game has ZERO CONTEXT to understand what the fuck Ganon is even talking about so while he's monologuing Link is just like

I think something that should be brought up is the fact that there are only 2 pure-bred Zonai left. Even Ganondorf brings that up. And the possibility that things actually weren't going very well before Rauru showed up. In fact, in fact, this is implied by Ganondorf's apparent longing for a bygone era. One he wishes to return Hyrule to. Put this together with his derision for peace & it implies that Hyrule's tribes may have been at war with each other, which would naturally include the Gerudo.

And if the Gerudo were part of this war.

Also, there are things that Ganondorf himself says in the original Japanese that doesn't really do him any favors. For 1, the exact words he used during his charge were "exterminate" & "leave no survivors." That sounds like genocide to me.

Also, I find it a bit disingenuous to only refer to Rauru as a colonizer & not Ganondorf when he appears to intend to possibly eliminate all the Hyruleans.

Something else to keep in mind is that the Gerudo only have Ganondorf & the only known place for the Gerudo to get more men is from the land of Hyrule, which if I'm correct, they were likely warring with & we know that they were unwilling to cooperate with during the time of the cuts cents.

However, that brings up the question of what Ganondorf & the Gerudo were planning to do after that? Even in the best case scenario, Ganondorf has proven himself untrustworthy. So, even if he won, killed all the Sages, took all the stones. What, then?

Do you expect the men of Hyrule to be happy that their king & queen & only other visible rulers are dead? Should they just be chill with being ruled by a man who basically destabilized their entire country?

All this will likely have done would be igniting gerudophobia. And they'd have every right.

Something else, you only gave 2 possible ways out of this for Ganondorf: 1) fight & 2) surrender. But you forgot one: 3) negotiation. For a supposed king, he doesn't seem too keen on actually being one. Instead, preferring to go the route of conqueror.

And, I don't think that imperialism is actually being portrayed as good here, nor should it. But rather, it seems to just be a thing that happened & failed.

When it comes to Ganondorf's motivations for doing whatever he does, for me it always comes down to one question: what is the right thing to do in his situation?

I'm not even trying to argue that he doesn't have a violent or selfish streak in him. I like that he's mean and that he's a bit of a freak in how devoted he is to his mandate of the strong survive and the weak perish. Let's look at TotK, the most recent entry. Between the Molduga attack and the unanswered repeated invitations, Ganondorf could not have made it more clear that he had no interest in serving Rauru or his kingdom. Even so, Rauru insisted until Ganondorf finally gave in, though admittedly with his own goals in mind.

Of course a story is a story and it will play out as the writers want it to (which is why all these specific storybeats were put in place) but how about if we consider the alternate and very plausible scenarios that could have occurred here. What if Ganondorf's ultimate plan was still to seize Hyrule but it did not involve swearing false fealty? What if he wasn't interested in conquering Hyrule but was also equally uninterested in joining Hyrule? Would he have been wrong to refuse what the rest of Hyrule had done, being labelled contrarian and rebellious for not accepting the invitation to join? Was Rauru going to accept the Gerudo's unanswered invitations for long? It was not as if Rauru had considered extending an alliance with the Gerudo that did not involve them swearing fealty, instead allowing them to exist as a sovereign kingdom.

What I'm trying to get at here is this: with the built-in implication that Rauru's intentions are good even if his methods are questionable and that Ganondorf's intentions are bad even if his reasoning has some merit, the "righteous" thing for Ganondorf to do, according to the story, was to stop resisting and submit, and give up his lands that were granted to him by the ancient laws of his people to a king of a kingdom that was just founded. Otherwise, there was no peaceful solution; a war would have broken out with either the Gerudo forcibly annexed or Rauru deposed and Ganondorf taking power. Ganondorf's personal intentions and personality aside, his path was one destined to be paved with war and violence. In fact, it is probably Ganondorf's perpetual threat that even kept Hyrule as a unified kingdom for as long as it did, the Hylian monarchy and its unified tribes relying on each other to keep him at bay every time he decided to emerge as Calamity Ganon and go on a destructive rampage. Besides, what is compelling us to think of Rauru's intentions as being ultimately good apart from the story simply telling us that is the case? What was the reason Hyrule needed to be established that narratively convinces the player that Rauru's intentions for establishing it were based in good? After all, Rauru and Sonia were sealing and containing demons without the need of the authority of a kingdom so that was not the reason for it. Is it because the other tribes accepted his rule without question? Is it because his element is light and it is based in goodness? Is it because he comes off as a nice and caring person? The road to hell is paved by good intentions after all, and Rauru certainly invited hell upon Hyrule when he forced Ganondorf's hand and allowed him the opportunity to come in close proximity to the very power he needed to overthrow him.

Tldr whether Ganondorf was nice or not, whether he was altruistic or the greatest asshole to have ever existed in history, he became Hyrule's enemy the second he refused to join the kingdom in true fealty. And this has been his ongoing story.
