Tomb of Sand was the winner of the International Booker Prize in 2022 and despite the intimidating length, it was one I knew I wanted to get to. Translated by Daisy Rockwell, reading this novel, especially the first third or so, is quite the undertaking. It’s filled with meandering prose, lyrical and playful language and a stream of consciousness style that left me at times, unsure where exactly the writer was taking us. Saying that, (and because of the sheer uniqueness of what I was reading), I was a willing passenger for the ride. ⁣ ⁣ It’s hard to describe what this book is about, purely for the reasons I’ve mentioned above. It follows an octogenarian mother whom when the story begins, is lying in bed with her back turned to her family, grieving for her husband and refusing to engage with anyone. At one point, she takes her precious Buddha statue and leaves the house, causing much worry but eventually returning and deciding to move in with her notoriously modern-living daughter, Beti. ⁣ ⁣ Striking up a relationship with Rosie, a hjira (trans) woman and instigating a trip back to Pakistan, the reader is taken to the real meat of the story, where we hear about her life under Partition and the travesties that occurred for those forced to leave their homes. ⁣ ⁣ I’m so glad I read this with the lovely @sandladysbooks because it felt like I got even more out of it than I might have done reading it alone. The first part was incredibly tricky as I’ve mentioned but when you power through, it’s easy to see why Tomb Of Sand has had as much critical acclaim as it has. It’s one of the most interesting books I think I’ve ever read. Did I always understand it? Sometimes I didn’t. Yet something in the stunning, flowing nature of what I was reading was captivating and made me want to keep on reading. It’s certainly not an easy novel to read but it’s a rewarding one and I’m already looking forward to experiencing it again on a re-read. ⁣ ⁣ Four solid stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 ⁣ ⁣ #bookstagramuk #bookreviewersofig #internationalbooker2022 #translatedliteraryfiction #tiltedaxisbooks #tombofsand #geetanjalishree #daisyrockwell #readingtranslatedliterature #buddyreadswithcath https://www.instagram.com/p/CmOPVrHr6oF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

ⒷⓄⓄⓀ ⓇⒺⓋⒾⒺⓌ Who moved my cheese Author: Spencer Johnson Genre: Self help, Fiction My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "The fastest way to change is to laugh at your own folly." Who moved my cheese is a small fictional tale said amongst some school friends at a reunion. The tale is really simple, still quite life changing. Two mice and two small people goes inside a maze in search of cheese and eventually finds lots of them. In later turns of events, once the cheese in that area runs out, the four of them reacts in four different way, quite like we human beings tend to do. Once we see any major changes in our life, we react in any of those four ways, and that can tell a lot about that person. This book talks about the adaptability to change. One can be any of the four characters mentioned in the book, but in the end, if one doesn't accept change gracefully and works upon it, one might become extinct. The book will hardly take 1 hour to finish, and it's written in such a strong and easy way, I am sure you are bound to love it. I know I did!! What did you think of this one? Have you read it? Or yet to read it? Lemme know!!! #bookishhabittag #bookishreview #bookishreviewathon #bookloversnest #boooreview #bookreviewersofig https://www.instagram.com/p/CRkvyBfHFQN/?utm_medium=tumblr

Free today! Reviews mean the world to any author, good or otherwise, reviews help authors become better writers. Please consider buying and reviewing my book, Woodrush Towers – Agents of Odd www.Books2read.com/Woodrush www.rowellpublishing.com/my-books/ (Link in profile) “In Woodrush Towers, Steven Rowell has made the complicated balancing act of genre-blending look easy. Part supernatural thriller, part psychological horror, Woodrush Towers is a deeply layered tale full of unique characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, and disturbing visuals that border on hallucinatory. The fast-paced, gripping narrative keeps readers guessing until the very last page, and seems to pose the unspoken question: What does evil look like? The answer may surprise you. I eagerly await the next installment in this offbeat, brilliant series by Steven Rowell.” * Abigail Stefaniak, Editor #freebooks #bookreadersclub #bookstagram #bookreadersofinstagram #horrorcommunity #horrorbooks #readersofinstagram #amreading #readmorebooks #lovereadingloop #indieauthorsloop2020 #mybookshelf #supernatural #bookreviewsofinstagram #books2020 #bookreviewersofig https://www.instagram.com/p/CNnmX-JAkp4/?igshid=1f8hpat9jg6ox

Okay, I’m going to attempt give you guys a spoiler free synopsis of the novel Luster by Raven Leilani so let’s get into it y’all 😁. Edie (protagonist) is a young black woman in her early 20s. She is struggling to figure things out in every area of her life, in particular her love life. Eventually, she meets a white, 40 year old married man by the name of Eric. Edie soon finds herself in a precarious situation with Eric and his wife after she is fired from her job 👀. Okkkkkaayy. Although Edie had more than a few questionable sexual interactions and the fact that seemed to be a little emotionally disconnected at times, overall she was just a young woman trying to deal with life the best way she knew how. Edie is searching for herself, and she is desperately trying to wade through the complicated mess that is her life. I enjoyed reading Luster, it’s a quick read and it definitely had a few eye opening moments that I won’t soon forget 😁. 📚 📚 📚 #bookreviewersofig #currentlyreading📖 #bookphotography📸 #bookingforfun #bookbloggersofig #bookwormsofig #momsthatread #readforpleasure #readforyourself #blackgirlreads #noshelfcontrol #mybookshelves #neutralphotography (at Kennesaw, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLvAlO7ghnU/?igshid=1nezj9gkolb6d

How do we teach our kids to work towards their goal? Let them first make up their mind to set a goal, work towards it.what needs to be done on the day of the test. The book lists down 5 mantras that needs to be kept in mind. The story is about a little girl who gives you the 5 mantras to win the world cup in pyjamas. This book is part of the how to win series by @marynhin and @kobenhinn . This book is not only for kids but also a good self help book for adults. Illustrations by @milenasalieri equally Support the theme of the book. Age recommendation : 6+ This book review post is my entry for #blognbookswithus hosted by @momtasticworld and @everylittlething.happiness . What a wild ride y’all ! I can honestly say that I have NEVER read anything like this 😁. There was world building, gentrification, race relations, avatars and I’m so excited to see what Jemisin does with this series! I felt such a connection with the city of New York and I haven’t been to New York a day in my life, but that is how connected I was to the characters. I could see Brooklyn and the Bronx clear as day while reading this book, I was totally immersed in this world that Jemisin created. The City we Became left me feeling hopeful and a little bit anxious to see what will happen next. This book is in a league of it’s own and If you are up for the challenge, I know that you will love it too! Pick up this gem 💎 if you haven’t already! : : #bookreviewersofig #bookphotography📸 #fantasybookreview #fantasybookstagram #bookingforfun #bookbloggersofig #bookwormsofig #momsthatread #readforpleasure #readforyourself (at Kennesaw, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLpt489Apwv/?igshid=1n23sdunmf9zp

Spoiler alert 🚨: a little “spoilery” Well I finally finished The Fires of Vengeance and just as I expected, it did not disappoint, this book is epic y’all ! The story picks up right where the Rage of Dragons left off, Tau is broken, battered and seething with vengeance. He joins forces with the ousted Queen Tsiora and has been named the Queen’s champion( protector, guard, leader). Tau and the Queen are trying to delay the inevitable attack on the capital by the people of Xidda. They want to devise a plan that will allow Queen Tsiora to reclaim her throne and Tau wants to find the man that caused the death of his closest friends and family. I was so happy to see a different side of Tau, because in the first book Tau is completely single minded, he wanted to kill EVERYONE that caused him pain. In the second book, though he is still very focused on chasing down his enemies and exacting revenge, he begins to grapple with the effects of living life with pure rage in his heart and mind. Tau takes his mind and body through unimaginable pains and strife to prepare for war and now he is beginning to feel the effects of that preparation. I could go on and on about this book but at the risk of getting too “spoilery” I’m just going to stop there 😁. I believe that there are two more books coming out, which would make it an quartet. I’m so glad that I jumped on the Rage of Dragons bandwagon because, the books just keep getting better. Loving this gem 💎, I can’t wait for the next book! • • #bookreviewersofig #bookloverssociety #noshelfcontrol#bookingforfun #bookbloggerslife#fantasybookstagram#fantasybooklover#bookbloggersofig#prettypics#bookwormsofig #booknerdsofinstagram (at Kennesaw, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLZS_Q1ALuo/?igshid=1iwbpk89rw4ys
