Happy #inktober2019 my friends!! I haven’t had much time to participate in Inktober this year and I was really looking forward to it but things have been crazy and unpredictable. Living with an extremely rare disease that no one really knows how to treat has made many things frustrating, especially lately with the continuing decline of my lungs. Something I learned while going through cancer treatments is that attitude is everything. Being negative doesn’t make anything easier. So, I generally try to be positive because things could be worse and I definitely never have time to be bored. I sometimes find myself asking what would life be like had everything gone as I originally planned. Would it be boring or a whole different kind of crazy? . Art and reading have always been ways for me to get a break from the craziness of life. I’m thankful for any amount of time I get to work on art and/or read, even if it is short. . I’m hoping things slow down soon and I can get a few more inktober pieces done. Nothing like listening to books on #Audible while working on #inktober2019 pieces. It's been a whirlwind of a time lately finding out more about why my lungs are deteriorating and increasing the amount of oxygen I need, which has left me feeling tired all the time and easily worn out. Reading and art have always been my escape from all of that and I'm so glad that I can do both at the same time and dont require too much energy. I've been a part of @oprahsbookclub since I was a teenager and I'm so glad she brought it to Instagram. #ReadWithUs as many read and discuss Ta-Nehisi Coates' "The Water Dancer" and if you are like me and like to multitask, listen to the audio book. Joe Morton is a pleasure to listen to and does a fabulous job with depicting the different characters by altering his voice. I actually left work at a decent hour and had some time to work some more with my #artezawatercolors for this quick skyscape/cloudscape. I'm not a fan of how these watercolors dry in pans for portable palattes, however, they are very pigmented and fun to use. I personally like them more fresh from the tube. They also mix well together to create even more colors and I really enjoy the pastels colors I am able to create. A beautiful landscape painting came out of what started as color swatches. I really enjoyed doing this 32x32" #weddingguestbook for a friend. I absolutely love the colors and the idea of this type of #guestbook and wish I had this idea for my wedding. I created a leaf template that was large enough for people to sign on a leaf because I've seen other gurstbooks with a design like this but the leaves are way too small for guests to fit their signature and that's the purpose of having a guestbook. I also a solurely live this because you can hang it on a wall and see it every day to remind you of that very special day opposed to a book that you store away and probably never look at again. Since doing this guestbook, I've had other friends reach out to have me do something similar for their wedding and I feel so appreciative that they want me to do something so special for their special day. I'm excited to do 2 more guest books this year for people, one of which will be a cherry blossom tree and I cannot wait! I look forward to sharing them with everyone once they are done. Happy Friday and #inktober , #drawtober , or whichever prompt list you are following. This is going to be a long post. . I haven’t done too much this week except for some abstract mini paintings and a notebook cover that I messed up because even 17 years later, October is hard. It seems a lifetime ago, but on this day 17 years ago I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). After many rounds of chemo and a whole lot of life threatening complications I was in remission! That lasted for 2 years and on October 27th there was suspicion of a relapse which was confirmed November 16, 2005. I started more chemo to get me into remission and then another round of chemo followed by full body radiation in prep for a bone marrow transplant. However, since we couldn’t find a marrow match, I was fortunate enough to be able to receive a stem cell transplant. With that came many complications that will follow me throughout life and add extra bumps in the road. I do not always have the energy to create and post something, but I do what I can and I’m okay with that.
