Today is my 36th birthday. I've been in a serious #readingslump because the flu has been kicking my ass. But today I was able to do some of my favorite things. Chris, Mama, and I went out to lunch. Then I took the #littlemonsters to the library and we had some fun library time. (Did you know that today is #LibraryShelfieDay I missed taking a pic while I was there but the fact that THAT particular day is celebrated on MY birthday seems as tho it was no accident. #DestinedToBeABooknerd ) After that I was able to sneak away to one of our local independent used bookshops. Too Many Books is the perfect mix of old books, cramped rooms, and hidden treasures. Many thanks to @berkleypub for e-ARC via NetGalley Adult Assembly Required by Abbi Waxman ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Adult Assembly Required is heartwarming and lovely women’s fiction that follows Laura Costello who arrives in Los Angeles to restart her life away from her overprotective family and memories of past tragedy, finds an unconventional group of friends who help her overcome her trauma and navigate through the new city and new phase of life. The story is about support, found family, love, friendship, adulthood, recovering from trauma and anxiety, acceptance, and self-confidence. This is simple old-fashioned women’s fiction or romance that focuses more on friendship than romance. It’s the writing and characters that make the story most fun and fascinating. All characters Laura meets in Los Angeles are quirky, relatable, and adorable. It’s hard not to mention them in this review. I loved many characters but Polly is my most favorite and she steal the show. Romance is like part of the story. We see many scenes with characters’ feelings for each other and their hesitations but I will not say it’s a sole focus of the story and yet it was lovely to see many characters paired up with each other. Climax is predictable. I expected unwanted person turning up at this point but everything happened after this point is really amazing. I loved this last 30% of the book. I had huge smile plastered on my face. I enjoyed Laura’s attempt of big gesture and the way Polly and Nina supported her, I just want them in my life for real. End is perfectly lovely, uplifting and feel-good. Overall, Adult Assembly Required is enertaining, heartwarming, lovely, uplifting, bookish and nerdy fiction with theme of friendship and adulthood that all nerds and bookworms will enjoy. BOOK REVIEW 🌟🌟 The Library of Light and Shadow by MJ Rose Hmmm... So I can't in all consciousness declare this a 'bookish' book. Yes there are books in it and a loose reference to a library but its not overly booky. That said, not a bad read. Delphine, a La Lune daughter has the ability to paint people's secrets but when one of her paintings accidentally causes a death, she finds herself shying away from her own magic. About half way through the book she is commissioned to paint the secrets of a Chateau, a home, in order to find a lost book belonging to the legendary Nicholas Flammel. A book that contains the elixir of life, the secrets of both Alchemy and immortality. A decent book, the third in this series (but fine to be read as a stand alone also) I liked the appearence of many famous artists in the book and the symbolism of light and shadow is evident. BOOK REVIEW 🌟🌟🌟🌟 By Book or by Crook - Eva Gates This was such a cute, bookish book and exactly what I was looking for when I began my BBC. Lucy moves from Boston and her stuffy family to the Outer Banks to take a job in a Library in the Bodie Island Lighthouse. A Library in the Lighthouse? Already, thats two of my favourite things in life! Anyway, when the Library Board Chair is murdered and priceless Jane Austen Editions are stolen, Lucy needs to find a killer and a theif before they find her! The characters are beautifully crafted, the relationships are sweet and well thought out and the mystery will keep you guessing for sure! I loved every moment of this book. BOOK REVIEW The Little Book Cafe - Georgia Hill 🌟🌟 I don’t like to give negative reviews, I appreciate that writing a book is hard, getting it published is even harder but the reality here is that there is a fundamental flaw in this story. It’s not about a bookstore. It’s not about a book cafe. It’s not even really about a book club. The book club meets twice and not one of its members finishes reading the chosen book (Wuthering Heights) This aside, the storie’s ok, the characters are ok, the arc is ok. I’m just a firm believer in a book being relative to its title.
