sorry i'm still just so hung up on the fact that captive prince is portrayed by the general public as a series that glorifies slavery and sexual assault (aka the pinnacle of no consent) when in actuality the core theme is that the most important thing you can give someone else is their freedom and their agency and their ability to consent. like even though laurent has all this power over damen at the start of the series, even though he abuses that power a handful of times, ultimately those two spend the entire series figuring out how to best serve the other in order to overcome the violence that was done to and by each of them - not because they're in a master/slave relationship, but simply because they care about the other person and they know that neither of them was allowed the consent they deserved in previous relationships and situations!!! and at the end of all of it, they accept not only that they have been hurt by lack of consent but they acknowledge that they have been abusers in their own ways, perpetuating a system that is harmful and cruel, and when they join together to create a new kingdom they make a point to put an end to the slavery that brought them together in the first place!!!!!!! what the fuck!!!!

In their debut poetry collection, Akwaeke Emezi imagines a new depth of belonging, crafted of both divine and earthly materials.

I’ll start off by saying that my two favorite poems out of all these deeply personal poems were “Disclosure” and “when the hurricane comes the men protect their brothers”. These two stuck out to me the most because of how raw and uncensored they were. The poems in this book definitely contain content warnings for abuse, rape, self-harm, and suicide. I probably wouldn’t have understood the poems as well if I hadn’t read some of Emezi’s books, but you catch on real quick. Akwaeke Emezi is a gift.

January 2025 Content Review

I finished my school placement which means this January I am back to having classes! I am back to living on campus which honestly I am not too excited about. I miss my hometown. However new year new me and all that jazz and I refuse to be negative. I don't think I will have much time to enjoy content this month so this list may not change in February.

Currently Enjoyed Series

What am I watching?

⤷ Brooklyn 99 - My beloved, I am always watching this it is always on when I fall asleep. I have just entered into season 5. 9/10.

⤷ Supernatural - Currently on season 3 episode 3. This is a rewatch but it has been years since I first watched it. I am really enjoying it and having a lot of fun.

⤷ Mr Sunshine - Started this for Lee Byung-hun. I have only watched episode 1 as it is something I enjoy watching with my boyfriend and can only see when he visits me. Episode was hella long but hella enjoyable. I found the storyline a bit hard to track so far.

⤷ Alice In Borderland - On Season 1 episode 2. Chasing the thrill that I got from ᡣ𐭩 Squid Game ᡣ𐭩. Love the concept and the games seem super interesting. A bit slow for me.

I am very overwhelmed by the amount of tv series I have on the go.

Recently Enjoyed Movies and Series

⤷ Long Legs - 8/10. Loved the cinematography. Was not too big of a fan of the ending. Long Legs did freak me out a lot.

⤷ A man on The Inside - 8/10. Made me cry a lot. Whose idea was it to make a comedy with a bunch of old people. Heart felt but I wish the jokes landed better.

⤷ I Think you Should leave - 5/10. I found some of the skits to be insufferable but the ones that were good were really good. I quote a lot of the skits to this day.

⤷ Squid Game. 10/10. My current hyper fixation. I love this show so much. Did some of the scenes drag on for too long? Yes. Did some of the plot lines seem pointless because they went no where? Maybe. I don't care I love it. Have watched season 2 twice since it came out and will continue to watch idc.

⤷ The Winners By Fredrick Backman. - Book 3 in the Bear Town Trilogy. I have been reading this book for a while (no fault of the books I've just been in a slump). And need to finish it.

Leave the World Behind By Rumaan Alam. - This was supposed to be a buddy read I did with my sister in December.. Yikes.
