Children’s books are not immune from censorship. I’ll list of a handful of banned and challenged in the genre;

A Wrinkle in Time, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, Captain Underpants, Where the Wild Things go, The Golden Compass, select Goosebumps books, Dr.Suess The Lorax, Charlottes Web, The Wonderful World of Oz, The Giver, The Giving Tree, Winnie The Pooh, James and the Giant Peach, Bridge to Terabithia, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.. and that’s just to start with.

The American Library Association who are committed to protecting books from being banned, write on their website: “Challenges do not simply involve a person expressing a point of view; rather, they are an attempt to remove material from the curriculum or library, thereby restricting the access of others. As such, they are a threat to freedom of speech and choice”

Banned Books Week 2018, the annual celebration of the freedom to read, will be held September 23 – 29. The 2018 theme, “Banning Books Silences Stories,” is a reminder that everyone needs to speak out against the tide of censorship.

本好き・本屋好きのみなさん、熊本に行きませんか。

2017.6.24(土)の夕方-夜に、熊本・南阿蘇の古本屋「ひなた文庫」さんを訪ねます。

本と自然に囲まれながら、おしゃべりしたり、歩いたり、本を読んだり。のんびり過ごそうと思っています。

また、24(土)または25(日)の日中には、熊本市内本屋さん巡りを行う予定です。（どちらかは決定次第ご案内します。）
