In a surprising turn of events, I now have the BOOH UK Tour video at my disposal, but I won't stream it. The quality is really nice for the most part, but the Act 1 finale (at least. Haven't watched the whole show yet) is barely visible and that's a really nice part of the show 👀

The funniest mishap (it's the first preview after all) is the glitter sticking to Glenn's face and right arm, he's just casually covered in giant glittery pieces of paper for the remainer of the act and I'm obsessed 🤣

I just think it’s interesting how context can completely alter your enjoyment of a song. As ever, I will be using booh for all my examples

So I mentioned the other day that I find it really difficult to listen to In the Land of the Pig the Butcher is King since going to see the show, because the sheer brutality of that scene really disturbed me. Like, it’s a brilliant song, and I used to absolutely adore it, but now even thinking about it makes me shudder, because I’m not exaggerating when I say that scene is horrific. Just the enjoyment of the torture, and the complete lack of regard for basic humanity. It’s not a fun scene to watch.

It works the other way too of course. Objects in the Rear View Mirror was a fairly meh song for me for whatever reason, but given context I absolutely fell in love with it. I can’t really explain what it was about that scene that had such a massive effect on me, but something changed. The other main song this happened with is I’d Do Anything for Love, which is a monster of a song. It’s ten minutes long, it’s fairly repetitive, and it takes a really long time to get to the good parts. I think that this is about knowing the characters, and knowing who has what lines, and knowing what’s going on on stage at each point. Suddenly, the song which lasted forever feels seconds long, and I have to keep repeating it because fucking hell I’ve missed Zahara’s line AGAIN.

I’ll be honest, more songs have grown on me than have ended up with me not being able to listen to them, so my last honourable mention goes to Love and Death and the American Guitar, which I’m not convinced counts as a song, but which appears on the cast album so apparently so. That’s been growing on me steadily, for reasons I really don’t understand, so if anyone’s got any suggestions on why I might have fallen in love with it hmu, because I’d love to know.
