El álbum "By All Means Necessary" es el segundo álbum de estudio del grupo Boogie Down Productions, lanzado hoy 12 de abril de 1988 por Jive Records (algunas fuentes lo datan del 31 de mayo de 1988). Fue producido por KRS-One, líder del grupo, y trató temas políticos y sociales como el racismo, la violencia y la pobreza.

Además, contó con los productores Ivan 'Doc' Rodriguez, Frantz y DJ Red Alert en la canción "Jimmy".

El álbum fue lanzado en un momento en que la escena del rap en Nueva York estaba en pleno auge y el hip hop estaba emergiendo como una forma de protesta social. "By A ll Means Necessary" fue un éxito comercial y crítico, y se convirtió en un clásico del hip hop.

La portada del álbum presenta a KRS-One sosteniendo un rifle de asalto, en referencia a la icónica imagen de Malcolm X sosteniendo un rifle. El título del álbum también hace referencia a una famosa cita de Malcolm X: "By any means necessary" (Por cualquier medio necesario). Más tarde, ingresó a la cultura popular de los derechos civiles a través de un discurso pronunciado por Malcolm X en el mitin fundacional de la Organización para la Unidad Afroamericana el 28 de junio de 1964.
