Updated Version 2.
They were both overlapped in Minnesota for the North Tartan Summer Jam-June 2016. They had a lot of basketball overlap in June/July 2016 but again, separate age groups, with Azzi playing in a higher age group than Paige.
USA U16 Trials in May 2017 when they met.
Won Gold together with U16 on June 11, 2017.
Flew to Minnesota together where Azzi probably spent the summer doing her camping and State Fair in August 2017. Before this though: they participated in the North Tartan Summer Jam-June 2017 but different groups. I think that first birthday post from Azzi is probably from this tournament. Also, they may have also had an EYBL tournament in Indianapolis in July 2017. This is also when those crush snapchats were most likely sent because the song itself was released July 7, 2017.
Generally, they always have a lot of overlap in the summer because of AAU
Their visit to Maryland, Notre Dame and UConn in Fall 2017. Offered scholarships by UConn at that time.
Azzi and Paige were together at the beginning of Feb, training. Azzi's high school is WCAC Champs at the end of Feb 2018 and Azzi was also player of the year as a Freshman.
Late March 2018, both participated in the 2018 USA Basketball 3x3 U18 National Championship. Paige’s team got first, and Azzi’s got second. Paige’s team went on to rep in the youth Olympics.
April 2, 2018 Paige and her Hopkins teammates watched the UConn Notre Dame 2018 Championship game. Paige apparently watched this match up twice by April 2019 and Azzi watched the 12/3/17 game against ND in Hartford. Maybe overlap?
Paige and Azzi played in the Nike Boo Williams Invitational for their separate AAU teams in Virginia on April 20-22, 2018. Azzi's team (Fairfax Stars 17s EYBL) won platinum undefeated in their division where she stood out as one of the best players at 15 years old. Paige's team (North Tartan 15s EYBL) won platinum undefeated in her division. Geno was apparently at this tournament from what I read.
Paige was in DC to play in the Capitol Classic on April 28, 2018. You can watch the entire game if you want.
Reunited in Colorado May 2018 for USA trials.
The 11th annual North Tartan Summer Jam in Hopkins Minnesota was held June 15-17, 2018, where both Paige and Azzi's AAU teams played against each other. Paige’s team beat Azzi’s team 79-63 but both ended with a 3-1 record with Paige's team getting second place. Azzi watched Paige's final game.
Basically, together all of July because training was July 4-20, with a pre-tournament invitational in Latvia. Afterwards, won Gold with U17 on July 29, 2018.
Azzi attends her first Curry Camp in August 6-7 2018. She blows up after the three point contest. At this point I also assume Minnesota cabin trip and state fair was spent together. Azzi was recognized while on a cruise with Bueckers family after the contest (Date unknown but assuming summer). Azzi also helped with Paige's charity clinic at the end of August in Montana.
Azzi and her family were also in Minnesota for a family wedding in September 2018.
11/2/18 Visit to UConn together. Azzi’s sweet 16 on 11/11/18. We know Paige was there.
March 2019 Azzi is presented Gatorade National Player of the Year for Basketball. Azzi's team is 2nd in the nation.
Paige wins state championship on March 16, 2019. Azzi is there supporting (she's in that day after vlog episode of Paige's teammate wearing her St. Patty's day necklace and referred to as National POY which she just got beforehand).
Both of them flew to Montana and I'm guessing that's when the Yellowstone trip happened. Probably Spring Break.
Buckets with Bueckers camp in Montana - March 25, 2019. Azzi was there.
April 1, 2019, Paige commits to UConn (signs letter of intent in November 2019). I think this is also the day Azzi got her puppy Stewie.
April 4-6, 2019 Azzi’s high school team makes the Geico Nationals final but loses. Not sure if Paige was there.
April 13, 2019 Azzi tears hear ACL/MCL at USA 3x3 championship. Surgery on May 29, 2019 in Indianapolis. Paige was with her before surgery (video proof from Azzi herself).
April 26-28, 2019 AAU together (Azzi not playing).
June 2019 – Paige participates in Summer Jam 2019 with Metro Stars.
July/August 2019 – After Azzi attends the ESPYS and SC30 Select Camp for both of them, Minnesota tradition (they have tiktoks from that time at the cabin and started their joint account that summer). I also think this is when that one Overtime video was filmed with the competition.
10/10-16/19 – Paige is in Doha Qatar for USA Basketball 3x3 tournament. Then she went to First Night at UConn and I think visited Azzi before she went to LA for ESPNW. Azzi visited UConn the week before First Night supposedly.
Dec 16, 2019: First HUDL recruiting video. End of December 2019, Azzi was presumably training with Mamba family in NYC.
Reunited in January 2020 in DMV. Azzi’s first games back from ACL were around this time and Paige was there (they filmed tiktoks together and there are videos of her in the stands). During her visit, Paige's second HUDL recruiting video for Azzi was published.
Azzi’s high school team wins state championships in early March 2020. Azzi travels to Minnesota in mid-March 2020 for Paige’s final but Covid shutdown occurs.
Paige stays with the Fudds from the end of April until June 2020 where she goes back for her graduation in early June and I think possibly packing up her stuff because I know her family was relocating to DMV at this time. She rejoins the Fudds in late June and stays with them and travels with them for Azzi’s GTS team up until end of July. Paige also gets her Gatorade award presented to her at the Fudd’s house on July 24, 2020.
Azzi is in Minnesota with her GTS in August of 2020 and Paige starts UConn.
Azzi visits Paige on her birthday and I believe tells her she’s committing to UConn in October 2020.
Azzi's Togethxr video of her day in the life with the facetime call was filmed November 5, 2020 (pop quiz had a date).
Azzi commits to UConn in November 11, 2020 and turns 18.
Paige's UConn season starts with her first games being cancelled because everyone is in a 14 day quarantine when one person tests positive. This was the reality of that time - they had to contact tracing and couldn't risk getting Covid during the season. They didn't have anymore cancelled games after the end of January but it certainly was an issue early on. UConn had nearly 75% of their courses online or hybrid for entire Fall 2020. Out of state students enrolled in online courses didn't live on campus. This was the reality of Paige's first year. Most likely not as social as people think and really just FTing Azzi at 1 AM apparently.
Azzi attends UConn-Tennessee game on January 21, 2021 to cheer on Paige.
Azzi attends UConn Final Four on April 2, 2021 and also attends the final (while being on FT with Paige).
Paige has ankle surgery afterwards and hanging out a lot with the Fudds as she rehabs during April and May 2021.
Azzi has USA U19 Trials in May 2021. Then graduation and prom for high school at the end of May (Paige was present during this time). Then summer session at UConn. Paige has her ESPY award speech in July 2021.
Azzi wins gold with team USA before landing back in Mn in mid August 2021 and reunited with Paige and heading to UConn.
My God, you did it 👑. Here's Pazzi's updated timeline for the people.
#this is why I need you for Willannès too 😈#pazzi#timeline#did you have fun at the game#azzi fudd#paige bueckers

This England team has shown us all what the power of sport really means
There have been a few times in recent years where the entire nation has appeared united and optimistic – and almost all of them have been connected to sport.
The World Cup in Italy in 1990, the EURO 96 in England and the London 2012 Olympic Games all come to mind as moments that will endure as epochs that transcend everything else going on in the world.
England has been particularly divided in recent years as the Leave and Remain factions argue; the challenges facing the nation during the COVID-19 pandemic; and the economic struggles that so many have encountered pretty much since the financial collapse a decade ago.
At Calacus, we work with organisations who see the value of sport to positively transform society and the England team has shown that throughout the build-up to EURO 2020 and beyond, they have brought the nation together in a way little else can.
Granted, it helped that England did so well, reaching the final of the tournament. It is hardly a new phenomenon that the squad is so multi-cultural, with players with family heritage from around the world.
While the aftermath of the defeat to Italy has shown the unpalatable side of society, the way in which the England manager and players have conducted themselves has been a masterclass in authentic communications.
STAY TRUE TO YOUR VALUES
Taking the knee has been part of football tradition in England for more than a year now, highlighting inequality and promoting diversity.
The England team have been criticised by many, with the Conservative MP for Ashfield, Lee Anderson, announcing that he would not watch “his beloved England team” while the players took the knee; Home Secretary Priti Patel suggesting that it was nothing more than “gesture politics.” and Prime Minister Boris Johnson refusing to criticise those who booed the team.
Given the racism that the likes of Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling and others have suffered, particularly from online trolls, it’s remarkable that politicians sought to condemn them and accuse the team of Marxist tendencies and BLM affiliation rather than a compassionate plea for solidarity and equality over division.
England defender Tyrone Mings said: “Everyone’s entitled to their opinions. The home secretary is one of many, many people who oppose us taking the knee or refuse to defend it . . . we [have tried] to educate and inform the minority who refuse to acknowledge why we take the knee and want to boo it.”
Notably, the boos faded as the EURO 2020 tournament progressed and the team got to the later stages and it speaks volumes that many of those politicians who criticised the team then tried to associate themselves with them through staged photography that fooled no one.
CELEBRATE INCLUSION
This England team are no strangers to speaking up for those who don’t have a voice.
Marcus Rashford has campaigned for an end to child hunger and has twice forced the government to make u-turns over free school meals.
Raheem Sterling, one of the stars of the tournament for England and who has been vilified himself by media and fans alike, has fought hard to call out bigotry in the fight against racism.
EURO 2020 started during Pride month and saw players wear rainbow laces and captains use rainbow armbands, despite some mixed messaging from UEFA.
When England played Germany in the round of 16, captain Harry Kane joined his counterpart Manuel Neuer in wearing a rainbow armband with England's official Twitter account saying: “@HKane will join @DFB_Team 's Manuel Neuer in wearing a rainbow captain’s armband for tomorrow’s game at @wembleystadium to mark the end of Pride month, as the #ThreeLions stand in allyship with LGBTQ+ communities around the world.”
Kane himself explained: “From our point of view, it is a show of solidarity with the German national team from all of us at the England national team to be united in trying to kick out all inequalities there are. We’re on a huge platform on a big stage so it is obviously a great opportunity to do so.”
Jordan Henderson has shown himself to be a captain on and off the field, supporting local charities during lockdown as well as leading his Liverpool team to success over recent years.
He is thought to be one of the main drivers behind the team planning to donate its EURO 2020 prize money to good causes.
Their donation – which could be in the millions – will be made to NHS charities now that the football tournament has concluded.
The team made a statement last May which said: “Following positive discussions with the FA, the England senior men's squad are pleased to confirm that a significant donation from their international match fees will be made to NHS Charities Together via the #PlayersTogether initiative.
“This contribution will be taken from a fund already set aside to support a variety of worthy causes using all match fees collated since September 2018.”
While England supporters still let themselves down by booing national anthems at times during the tournament, it shows the progress that this England team has prompted that Joe White, an England fan who co-chairs Gay Gooners, Arsenal’s LGBT+ supporters group, attended the England v Germany match at Wembley Stadium “in full makeup.”
They wore red lipstick, shimmery eyeshadow and mascara along with a rainbow flag and England flag painted on their face to complete the look.
They tweeted: “This is a really small and personal point but today was my first game at Wembley in full makeup and overtly queer (as opposed to just camp). Absolutely no issues from fans and some lovely chats.
“Despite being absolutely petrified pre game, really proud of our fans”
Henderson responded: “Hi Joe great to hear you enjoyed the game as you should. No one should be afraid to go and support their club or country because football is for everyone no matter what. Thanks for your support, enjoy the rest of the Euros.”
How refreshing that the LGBTQ+ community can now support the national team with no fear of abuse or intimidation and that the Three Lions Pride can display positive banners – understandably celebrating Henderson’s goal against Ukraine.
ENCOURAGE TEAMWORK
England manager Gareth Southgate arguably had one of the most talented England squads in recent memory.
The team’s headquarters at St George’s Park became a centre of fun with photocalls featuring the likes of Bukayo Saka jumping into a pool on a flying unicorn inflatable and Ed Sheeran playing a special concert for the team not to mention a preview showing of Top Gun Maverick and call with its star Tom Cruise.
While early on, there was uproar among fans over players who had been left out of the starting XI or even the squad, with flair giving way to pragmatism, Southgate showed how much the team ethic mattered to him.
After the 4-0 victory over Ukraine, Southgate paid tribute to the members of his squad who had not featured much during the tournament.
He said: “I am thinking about the players who I had to leave out of the 23 because they have been such a massive part of what we’re doing. It is so difficult to keep a group of this size feeling valued and yet those guys have been phenomenal about how they have sacrificed themselves for the group.
"I feel the responsibility keenly. But it is these challenges that make us."
Not once during the tournament did any stories leak of disgruntled players, while the players reflected the afore-mentioned values by resisting well-trodden paths of nationalism that previous encounters with the likes of Germany may have engendered.
In fact, this England team have shown dignity in the face of criticism and the very definition of what it means to be a team – there are no egos, no vested interests.
Where once supporting England meant violence and xenophobia, this England team has inspired a new identity with a commitment to diversity, inclusion and a more tolerant society, which is a credit to them all.
SHOW REAL LEADERSHIP
It was quite telling when, during the celebrations following England’s win over Denmark, former international Gary Neville said: “The standard of the leaders in the past couple of years in this country has been poor but look at that man there... he’s everything a leader should be: respectful, humble, tells the truth, genuine. He’s fantastic, Gareth Southgate.”
Southgate has been humble, engaging, honest and resolute that he knew what he wanted to do and would not waver, even when senior politicians criticised some of the decisions made by him and his management team.
Ahead of the tournament, in an essay on patriotism, titled Dear England, Southgate linked football and national identity and underlined why the game means so much more than just sporting excellence.
“I have a responsibility to the wider community to use my voice, and so do the players. It’s their duty to continue to interact with the public on matters such as equality, inclusivity and racial injustice, while using the power of their voices to help put debates on the table, raise awareness and educate.
“On this island, we have a desire to protect our values and traditions – as we should – but that shouldn’t come at the expense of introspection and progress.”
Southgate has been calm and assured throughout his tenure, ensuring that he and the team are consistent in their focus, messaging and conduct. There have been no scandals, no drama and every press conference or media opportunity has been assured and engaging.
FACE ADVERSITY HEAD-ON
Losing on penalties is part of football, but it’s also something that England have encountered at a number of major tournaments.
The backlash after England’s defeat was brutal, with the three players who missed penalties, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka all targets of racist abuse.
Some MPs also used the defeat as an opportunity to tell players to keep out of politics, such as Andrew Rosindell, who tweeted: “We are all proud of our England team, who have had the support of the whole country over recent weeks, but please focus of football, not politics. If you win for England, you win for everyone!”
Home Secretary Priti Patel expressed her outrage at the racism, prompting Mings to again address her double standards.
He said: “You don’t get to stoke the fire at the beginning of the tournament by labelling our anti-racism message as ‘Gesture Politics’ & then pretend to be disgusted when the very thing we’re campaigning against, happens.”
Soon after the game, the mural in tribute to Rashford was vandalised, prompting hundreds of positive messages and fans voicing their support for the Manchester United forward.
Rashford tweeted: ““I’ve grown into a sport where I expected to read things written about myself. Whether it be the colour of my skin, where I grew up, or, most recently, how I decide to spend my time off the pitch.
“I dreamt of days like this. The messages I’ve received today have been positively overwhelming and seeing the response in Withington had me on the verge of tears. The communities that always wrapped their arms around me continue to hold me up.
“I’m Marcus Rashford, 23-year-old black man from Withington and Wythenshawe, South Manchester. If I have nothing else I have that. For all the kind messages thank you. I’ll be back stronger. We’ll be back stronger.”
CONCLUSION
The England team have shown without doubt the power of sport to unify – and while EURO 2020 is now over, we have the Olympic Games coming up where athletes will come together in the spirit of competition and camaraderie.
As Southgate put it: “The reality is that the result is just a small part of it. When England play, there’s much more at stake than that.
“It’s about how we conduct ourselves on and off the pitch, how we bring people together, how we inspire and unite, how we create memories that last beyond the 90 minutes. That last beyond the summer. That last forever.”
While the positivity has proved to be a brief moment in time, the England squad showed society how to empathise, respect and engage in a way that has been in short supply for so long.

Nanwum IV scheming
So I’ve got less than 6000 words to go on this month’s Camp Nano goal, and there’s six more days in July, which means I’m juuuuust caught up enough to get ahead of myself and think about how to handle this year’s National Novel Writing Month in November.
For anyone just joining us, I’ve been writing this damn wienerfic for the past five years, and I’ve been using National Novel Writing Month (or Nanwum as the kids like to call it.) to power through the project and test my skills. I’ve won three times, in 2017, 2018, and 2019. This fall will be my fourth run.
I feel like I need a stronger plan for this one, since my first attempt in 2017 was much more structured, and I think that was a huge help. 2018 was good in the sense that I finished quickly, wrote thirty days in a row, and got an extra 10k past the goal. I won in 2019, but it was kind of a mess, and I feel like I should take steps to keep the same thing from happening in 2020.
So this is kind of my wishlist of stuff I want to achieve this November. Dunno if I’m going to pull it all off, but I at least want a list of goals to score myself against.
1. Hit 50,000 words by November 20. I’ve done this before, mostly out of fear that if I fell too far behind that I wouldn’t be able to get caught up in time to finish. Now that I’m more experienced, fear isn’t as much of a factor, but the strategy still works, so I need to do it because it’s smart. This would require me to write an average of 2500 words per day for the first 20 days.
2. Write for thirty days in a row. I pulled this off in 2018 and it felt pretty good. In ‘17, I purposely scheduled days off for myself, which seemed like a good idea, but I think it does help me more to write at least a few words each day, if only to maintain momentum. If I can hit goal #1, then I don’t expect great things from those final ten days. In 2018 it was more of a victory lap. But the idea is to keep me moving on those first 20 days.
2a. I’d like to establish an 800 word/day minimum goal, but I’m not sure if that’s realistic. If successful, I’d be pulling down 58,000 by 11/30/2020.
3. Write 7000 words in one day. So I’ve set two records for one-day writing. The first was the clothing-optional Luffa #69, which I just pounded out in October 2017 while I was talking myself into the Nanwum experience. That was about 6,000 words, but I’d need to look up the exact number. The second time was November 11, 2018. I’m more proud of that one because I had set out to hit 6,000. Luffa #69 was just me on a roll, and wanting to finish the chapter in one day. If I had managed to wrap it up in 3500 I would have.
So my official record stands at 6,044 words in one day. I’d like to break that, and I want to break it in a big way, so I’m aiming for 7000. The way I see it, if I fail, then boo-hoo, I’ll still have a big one-day total.
I’m thinking that maybe my best bet is to attempt this on day one. Historically, I usually go into these things with a lot of momentum, and I’d be coming off of a day off from writing, so I’d be as fresh as possible. So basically, 10/31, then 12:01 on 11/1 and I knock out a thousand words to start things off, and see where things go from there.
The best way to make this work is to plan ahead just what I want to write. It would also help if I had multiple things to switch around in case I get stuck. What made 11/11/18 work so well was that I had a big dramatic fight scene that I’d been looking forward to, but also a couple of other chapters I could touch up. I need similar conditions for 11/1/20.
Off the top of my head:
a.) Luffa Annual #2. I had some fun doing a Christmas side-story with the characters, and I sort of wanted to make it an annual thing. The trouble with Annual #1 was that I didn’t start it until December, and I couldn’t get it posted in time for Christmas, so it’s probably for the best if I just make this a fun thing I do on the side for Nano. I’m not sure what I should do for the annual this year, although a magical girl/sentai kind of story. Dunno how to make that about Christmas, wait, I’m an idiot, I’ll just have them fight a giant half-reindeer/half-pine tree monster that shoots missiles shaped like egg nog cartons.
...
You know, I say that like it’s a joke that I plan to workshop into something better later on, but honestly, that’s probably as good as it’s going to get. Sorry to spoil everyone. Pinedeer confirmed for brawl.
b.) Mega Chiaotzu? Fuck it, Mega Chiaotzu.
c.) Look, I don’t want to get to spoiler-y, but I should be pretty deep into the Xenoverse phase of the story by November, so I had thoughts in mind for a Time Patrol mission to the Ginyu Force leg of the Namek Saga, basically for the sole purpose of having Luffa guest-star in DBZ Episode 66, the episode that inspired the character. L U F F A C E P T I O N, if you will.
d.) On that note, I need to start introducing my Time Patrol supporting cast members, such as Excitebike, Big League Chew, and Dewar. Man I almost forgot Dewar’s name for a second, I’d better do him first.
I dunno, I think those four ideas ought to carry me past 7k. I don’t expect to finish all of them, or even any of them on 11/1/18, but that should keep me busy.
To summarize all this, if my plan goes well, I’d be looking at 7000 words on the first day, then I’d need to write 2263 words/day to hit 50k by 11/20. Then I could take it easy and write 800 a day through the 30th. That’s going to be tough, but do-able. 2000 a day has been a decent cruising speed for me in past years, but I feel like I’ve really fallen off of that lately. The goal here will be to push myself to get back into that mode, and I think all the work I’ve been doing in January through September will really get me where I need to be. Of course, I gotta finish July first, so if you’ll excuse me.
#nanwum iv#i heard the tagging system is all fucked up now so no point bothering with my five slashes i guess#writing

Backpack Tour
Ok so last year for Christmas my dad gifted me this incredbly beautiful Fjällräven backpack. Fun story when I was a kid almost everyone in my class had one. But my family couldn’t afford one because first of all they were expensive as shit nad second we were basically a poor family. But alas at the age of 23, Christmas 2018 my dad (who I love very much and everything I got from him I have loved9 gave me this backpack.
I immediately put all of my fandom pins and my backpack clips on it because hey! It is my backpack and Imma do whatever I want with it. Ok so here is a lil tour of my pins nad what have you in no particular order.
BTS Enamel Pin and BTS Group Pin: Ok so first off we have my BTS pins. I got the enamel pin from a store in Helsinki, Finland called Luca )y’all should check it out if you are planning to travel to Finland). The store had an insane amout of K-Pop merch from pin to pillows to incredibly fancy holo pencil pouched ( I ended up buying the metal enamel pin which is their old logo I know but it was all they had available when I was there), a EXO and BTS notebook, a small photocard of Taehyung nad the Taehyung pin you see in the picture. The group pin I got along with my BTS hoodie that I got from my uncle for Christmas.
Genji Pin: Ok I know he is sideways. I just haven’t bothered putting him on the right way. But I got this pin at GameStop (my favorite store in the whole entire world) they had these at the check out counter in a small box and I rummaged through and finally found my favorite cyborg ninja Genji,
Taehyung pin with V Keyring: Again I got the Taehyung pin from the store Luca which I previously mentioned and I bought the V keyring on the cruise ship on my way home. It was incredibly difficult attaching the V keyring at the sime time with the pin but I managed and it looks pretty darn neat. I love this pin very much and I would be sad if something happened to it.
Yuuri Katsuki Keyring: Ok I adore Yuri on Ice and Yuri Katsuki is my favorite character in the anime ( I have a habit of buying htigs with my favorite things on it. I bought him in Gothenburn Summer, 2017 and he has been with me for a while fro ma swedish store called Science Fiction Bokhandeln.
Ravenclaw House Crest pin and Ravenclaw Sorting Hat Pin: Ok so these two pins are new additions that I bought yesterday from GameStop. I am a very proud Ravenclaw and I have a hard time finding Ravenclaw stuff so when I found these pins at GameStop I had to grab them. Oh and did I menton they were on sale!!! Lucky me!! So now wherever I go I can proudly say I am a Ravenclaw. Oh and they had Sorting Hat Pins for every house. Same with the House Crest Pin.
LEGO Nexo Knights Aaron LED Keyring: Ok I am obsessed with LEGO Nexo Knights and Aaron (and Lance) happen to be my favorite character. So when I found this cool keyring which has LED lights at the bottom of his feet I was estatic so Aaron has been hanging around since the day I bought him.
Sakuya my TY Beanie Boo Fox: I bough this last year at a cheap store. His name was originally Slick but I renamed him Sakuya after Sakuya from Lupinranger vs Patranger. That and I love foxes
Darla my TY Beanie Boo Dragon: I bought Darla Summer, 2018 from a trip to Finland and I love her very much.
And that was my backpack tour I hop you all liked it

Your Ultimate Women-Write-The-Best-of-Everything 2019 Reading List
The Voyeurs (Graphic Novel)
"The Voyeurs is the work of a mature writer, if not one of the most sincere voices of her literary generation. It's a fun, honest read that spans continents, relationships and life decisions. I loved it."—Chris Ware, Acme Novelty Library
"As she watches other people living life, and watches herself watching them, Bell's pen becomes a kind of laser, first illuminating the surface distractions of the world, then scorching them away to reveal a deeper reality that is almost too painful and too beautiful to bear."— Alison Bechdel, Fun Home
"A master of the exquisite detail, Bell provides a welcome peephole into our lives."—Françoise Mouly, The New Yorker
The Voyeurs, was named one of the best books of the year by Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, and the Atlantic.
Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity
In this brilliant, breathtaking book by Pulitzer Prize winner Katherine Boo, a bewildering age of global change and inequality is made human through the dramatic story of families striving toward a better life in Annawadi, a makeshift settlement in the shadow of luxury hotels near the Mumbai airport. As India starts to prosper, the residents of Annawadi are electric with hope. Abdul, an enterprising teenager, sees “a fortune beyond counting” in the recyclable garbage that richer people throw away. Meanwhile Asha, a woman of formidable ambition, has identified a shadier route to the middle class. With a little luck, her beautiful daughter, Annawadi’s “most-everything girl,” might become its first female college graduate.
Marbles: Mania, Depression, Michelangelo, and Me: A Graphic Memoir
Cartoonist Ellen Forney explores the relationship between “crazy” and “creative” in this graphic memoir of her bipolar disorder, woven with stories of famous bipolar artists and writers.
Shortly before her thirtieth birthday, Forney was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Flagrantly manic and terrified that medications would cause her to lose creativity, she began a years-long struggle to find mental stability while retaining her passions and creativity.
Searching to make sense of the popular concept of the crazy artist, she finds inspiration from the lives and work of other artists and writers who suffered from mood disorders, including Vincent van Gogh, Georgia O’Keeffe, William Styron, and Sylvia Plath. She also researches the clinical aspects of bipolar disorder, including the strengths and limitations of various treatments and medications, and what studies tell us about the conundrum of attempting to “cure” an otherwise brilliant mind.
Darkly funny and intensely personal, Forney’s memoir provides a visceral glimpse into the effects of a mood disorder on an artist’s work, as she shares her own story through bold black-and-white images and evocative prose.
The Woman in Cabin 10
From New York Times bestselling author of the “twisty-mystery” (Vulture) novel In a Dark, Dark Wood, comes The Woman in Cabin 10, an equally suspenseful and haunting novel from Ruth Ware—this time, set at sea. In this tightly wound, enthralling story reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s works, Lo Blacklock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea. At first, Lo’s stay is nothing but pleasant: the cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, gray skies fall, and Lo witnesses what she can only describe as a dark and terrifying nightmare: a woman being thrown overboard. The problem? All passengers remain accounted for—and so, the ship sails on as if nothing has happened, despite Lo’s desperate attempts to convey that something (or someone) has gone terribly, terribly wrong…
1222
Nominated for the Edgar Award for Best Novel, from Norway’s #1 bestselling female crime writer—a “beguiling” (The Washington Post) “good old-fashioned murder mystery” (The New York Times Book Review) set in an isolated hotel where guests stranded during a monumental snowstorm begin turning up dead. A train on its way to the northern reaches of Norway derails during a massive blizzard, 1,222 meters above sea level. The passengers head for a nearby hotel, centuries old and practically empty. With plenty of food and shelter from the storm, the evacuees think they are safe, until one of them turns up dead. With no sign of rescue and the storm raging, retired police inspector Hanne Wilhelmsen is asked to investigate. Paralyzed by a bullet lodged in her spine, Hanne has no desire to get involved. But when another body turns up, panic takes over. Complicating things is the presence of a mysterious guest, a passenger who traveled in a private rail car and now stays secluded on the top floor of the hotel. No one knows who the guest is, or why armed guards are needed. Hanne has her suspicions. Trapped in her wheelchair, trapped by the storm, and now trapped with a killer, Hanne knows she must act before the killer strikes again.

Nobody Nowhere: The Remarkable Autobiography of an Autistic Girl
Donna Williams was a child with more labels than a jam-jar: deaf, wild disturbed, stupid insane... She lived within herself, her own world her foreground, ours a background she only visited. Isolated from her self and from the outside world, Donna was, in her words, a Nobody Nowhere. She swung violently between these two worlds, battling to join our world and, simultaneously, to keep it out. Abandoned from all connection to the self within her, she lived as a ghost with a body, a patchwork of the images which bombarded her. Intact but detached from the seemingly incomprehensible world around her, she lived in what she called 'a world under glass`.
After twenty-five years of being misunderstood, and unable to understand herself, Donna stumbled upon the word 'autism': a label, but one which held up a mirror and made sense of her life and struggles, and gave her a chance to finally forgive both herself and those around her.
The Ice Princess
The psychological thriller debut of No.1 bestselling Swedish crime sensation Camilla Lackberg.
A small town can hide many secrets
Returning to her hometown after the funeral of her parents, writer Erica Falck finds a community on the brink of tragedy. The death of her childhood friend, Alex, is just the beginning. Her wrists slashed, her body frozen in an ice-cold bath, it seems like she’s taken her own life.
Meanwhile, local detective Patrik Hedström is following his own suspicions about the case. It’s only when they start working together that the truth begins to emerge about a small town with a deeply disturbing past…
The Vampire Chronicles: Interview with a Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and The Queen of the Damned
In 1976, nearly 80 years after Bram Stoker published Dracula, Anne Rice's bestselling first novel, Interview with the Vampire, breathed new life into the vampire myth. Now, in one chilling volume, here are the first three classic novels of The Vampire Chronicles; Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and Queen of the Damned.
Adulthood is a Myth: A Sarah's Scribbles Collection
Do you love networking to advance your career? Is adulthood an exciting new challenge for which you feel fully prepared? Ugh. Please go away. 2016 GOODREADS CHOICE AWARD WINNER FOR GRAPHIC NOVELS AND COMICS! These casually drawn, perfectly on-point comics by the hugely popular young Brooklyn-based artist Sarah Andersen are for the rest of us. They document the wasting of entire beautiful weekends on the internet, the unbearable agony of holding hands on the street with a gorgeous guy, and dreaming all day of getting home and back into pajamas. In other words, the horrors and awkwardnesses of young modern life. Oh and they are totally not autobiographical. At all.

“ ... The regrettable denouement of Saturday’s match is a Rorschach test for tennis fans: some think Williams was the victim of a gross injustice from an overzealous umpire while others believe her response was conduct unbecoming of a professional. ... “
The venerable boxing trainer Cus D’Amato used to say that emotion, particularly fear, is like fire. If you make it work for you, then it can cook your food, keep you warm and give you light in the dark. But if you let it go out of control, it can burn your house down.
Only Serena Williams herself knows whether her shocking meltdown at the end of the most controversial US Open final ever staged – in which she was beaten by the brilliant 20-year-old Naomi Osaka – was down to a surrender to emotion or, as she framed it in the chaotic aftermath, an impassioned stand against sexism. But what, to one of the sport’s fiercest and most unsparing competitors, could be scarier than being outplayed by a young lion who appeared more athletic, who was serving faster and returning everything fired her direction with metronomic consistency? What could be more unsettling for Williams, who turns 37 this month, than watching another opportunity to tie Margaret Court’s record for grand slam titles slipping from her grasp when there’s no telling how many more chances lie ahead?
Williams simply didn’t have answers on Saturday afternoon for the demands put forth by Osaka. At once the feelgood vibe of Serena’s much-publicized comeback following the birth of her daughter, celebrated in lucrative ad campaigns and a glossy five-part documentary series, felt like it was crashing down around her. It’s one thing to have the end of your career in sight, but perhaps Williams felt like her time was passing right in that moment.
Then one harsh call and boom.
The regrettable denouement of Saturday’s match is a Rorschach test for tennis fans: some think Williams was the victim of a gross injustice from an overzealous umpire while others believe her response was conduct unbecoming of a professional. The one thing everyone can agree on is that officials intruding in this way is unwanted, even if chair umpire Carlos Ramos was correct under the rules in all three code violations that prompted Williams’ outburst: the first a warning for illegal coaching, the second a point penalty for racquet abuse, the third a game penalty for verbal abuse. What’s most unfortunate is that Williams either couldn’t or wouldn’t let it go. And not just for herself: it means that the day afterwards we are talking about Williams rather than just how brilliant Osaka was in victory.
If you’ve watched Osaka for any length of time over the last year or two, but especially over the last fortnight in Flushing Meadows, you knew that Saturday’s match had the chance to be special. The pressure on Williams as the favourite meant Osaka was playing with house money and could swing freely. Had she been beaten, there would have been no shame in losing to the greatest player of all time playing before a partisan crowd.
The only question was whether a 20-year-old in her first grand-slam final could hold her nerve. It wasn’t long before it was obvious she could. Even after Osaka broke Williams in her second and third service games and cruised to the opening set, it was inevitable the American would make her trademark surge. It was far less clear whether it would be enough. The genius of Williams’s late-career renaissance is her knack to shift her level seemingly at will. If the serve is betraying her or a few loose points cost her an opening set, she’s proven time and again capable of elevating her game: flattening her groundstrokes, putting more on her serve.
But against Osaka it wasn’t clear if third gear would be enough – or if fourth is even there anymore. Maybe that’s where the fear creeps in. And maybe that’s where you look for a way out, not unlike her infamous loss to Kim Clijsters in the 2009 US Open where Williams was called for a foot fault serving at 4-6, 5-6. Her reaction, to threaten the lineswoman while on a code violation, expedited a finish that had taken on a sense of the inevitable: the tennis equivalent of Mike Tyson biting Evander Holyfield’s ear. Now a rule is a rule whatever the score is, but Ramos’s call in context was dubious. On Saturday, Ramos might not have been wrong, but that doesn’t make it right (indeed, Williams is not the first player to clash with him: Rafael Nadal has also complained about Ramos’s exuberant adherence to the rulebook).
It can’t be said enough that we are lucky to be living in Williams’s time. The story of an African American woman from Compton teaming with her older sister to rewrite the record book of a sport predominantly owned, played and watched by affluent white people is the ultimate American folk tale – and it’s still being written in real time. Slights rooted in sexism or racism are for Williams not paranoid delusions but everyday realities. To hear a stadium of more than 20,000 spectators rain boos and jeers on the court surely evoked harrowing memories of Indian Wells in 2001. She is a superhero, but every superhero has their weakness – and Serena’s is the red mist.
You can acknowledge the twin burdens of racism and sexism that Williams has shouldered – and it is true that male players regularly argue with umpires and are not penalised in the same fashion – and still admit she could have handled Saturday’s final stages better. Her comments on court, during the trophy ceremony and in her post-match interview demonstrated her uncanny habit of conflating the good with the bad, mixing everything up to excuse her poor behavior. Consider her response to a reporter who asked if she would have done anything differently.
“[Umpire Ramos] has never taken a game from a man because they said ‘thief’. For me it blows my mind. But I’m going to continue to fight for women and to fight for us to have [equality] – like Cornet should be able to take off her shirt without getting a fine. This is outrageous,” she said. “I just feel like the fact that I have to go through this is just an example for the next person that has emotions, and that wants to express themselves, and want to be a strong woman. They’re going to be allowed to do that because of today. Maybe it didn’t work out for me, but it’s going to work out for the next person.”
This sort of self-exoneration through obfuscation undercuts the massive strides made by Williams over most of the last decade in sportsmanship, which for years was the only criticism you could lob toward an otherwise unassailable character.
Williams, who like all true icons is many things to many people, can still tie Court’s record in four months at the Australian Open, a tournament she’s won seven times, including last year while eight weeks pregnant. She will be duly celebrated if it happens, but there’s no question Saturday’s regrettable episode will be long remembered as the night Williams’s house went up in flames.

3. Brawny Men
Allow me to take you back two and a half years ago to an interview where Tyra is asked about the possibility of casting plus-size men on ANTM:
While her answer isn’t “No fatties!” it also wasn’t the most the encouraging of responses. I get what she said about not wanting to give false hope to someone who couldn’t realistically book modeling gigs (Tyra would NEVER do such a thing!), however it’s way more exciting to see 2018 Tyra pouncing on an opportunity to promote some chunky and hunky dudes as soon as that market presented itself.
Yup, thats a genuine kudos to Tyra, with no joke or caveat attached. I know that seems out of character for me, but credit where credit is due right?
Tyra gathers the models for a shoot and explains how she was cruising Instagram and came across the world’s first brawny male supermodel. I swear, if Tyra scrolls through random social media accounts as often as she makes it seem, it’s time to check Tyra into rehab for internet addiction.
That male model is Zach Miko, and he seems like a genuine sweetheart. Most of the ladies gush over him, including Erin who says he reminds her of the Brawny paper towel guy. In reality, Zach looks nothing like the paper towel mascot, in that he’s not a lumberjack with a ‘70s pornstache, but Tyra uses the word “brawny” so much this episode that Erin must have incepted it.
Zach tells the girls they’ll be dripping in gold, which the girls wildly cheer for. Typically, the expression “dripping in gold” means wearing lots of jewelry, I can’t imagine they were nearly as excited when the PAs started dumping paint on them.
Zach won’t be the only male model, Tyra wants a few more big guys to appear in the shots, so she holds a casting call. Most of the guys aren’t even plus-size, though, and it’s unclear whether they just recruited entirely wrong or they already had their three models picked out and threw the other guys in for a beefcake scene.
I mean, I really don’t know what to make of these bow-tied twins who do a synchronized backflip. They’re scrawny as fuck, so why are we seeing them at all? I don’t understand at all.
To surprise of no one, Shanice uses the casting call as an opportunity to flirt. She asks full-bodied Kevin if he’s married, then he throws his clothes at her as he strips down. She never asked Kevin he had a girlfriend, though, which I guess would be a factor she considers irrelevant since she has a boyfriend herself. Nevertheless, Shanice admits there’s chemistry, and then the show doesn’t even bother to pair them together, which is such a fucking wasted opportunity.
What is surprising is how thirsty Erin is for these male models. She won’t do a tasteful (and covered) nude pose because of her kids, but she’s willing to make sexually suggestive comments about a man 15 years younger than her while she’s got a husband at home? Maybe now’s the time to consider what her kids will think about that.
Erin asks Miles if he’s into older women, then offers to break him in. Later at panel, she pretty much blushes about how she hasn’t been with another man in a long time and it felt like she cheated on her husband by posing with the male model.
While Erin talks about how beefy men are her type, Tyra says that Erin’s skinny body looks so fly that it makes her feel like she needs to work out. That’s not quite on theme with the body positivity of the episode, but all right.
Not everyone is as into thick physiques as Erin and Shanice. When Rio first finds out what the shoot will be, she gripes to her fellow competitors, “We’re posing with fat ass dudes.” The other women chide her for that attitude. Rio says, “I was just kidding everyone, I am not that insensitive of a bitch - promise.”
She IS that insensitive of a bitch, though, because she later says in confessional, “To be honest with you, overweight guys like that are not cute. Let’s work out, let’s get healthy. But, hey, do you boo boo.”
Damn, Rio, if a rotund man is not your personal preference, fair enough, but as someone who’s often brown-nosing for the judges, at least learn to read the room. If Tyra’s calling these men sexy, and Ashley’s whole shtick is body positivity, how are you playing a smart game by making fat-phobic comments?
Simply put, chubby guys are looking WAY better than Rio after those ugly sentiments poured out of her mouth. Talk about not cute.
That said, if the male models DO decide to work out/get healthy, at least they know they can have a gym buddy in Christina. She works out EVERY DAY, remember.
Rio may be down for the cause herself, because she shows up to panel in what Tyra calls a “Jazzercise” outfit. It’s truly ridiculous. Ashley Graham wonders what Law would have to say about it if he were here and for once MAN do I wish Law was here to speak some truth to that look.
Per Tyra, Law is unavailable for panel today because he is off “image architecting” for someone. What, did Zendaya have a shoe emergency? More accurately, he’s probably off pursuing his true passion: bottoming… hopefully for a brawny man, so it’s at least on theme. (Aside to the producers - anytime a judge is unavailable, Stacey McKenzie should be your FIRST CALL for a fill-in.)
Anyway, the judges that are present decide that Rio is being outdone by brawny model Miles in her shot. I think it catches Rio a little off guard to find that an obese guy can out-model her but that’s just too fucking bad for her.

Hubble Sees Neptune's Mysterious Shrinking Storm
NASA - Hubble Space Telescope patch. Feb. 15, 2018 Three billion miles away on the farthest known major planet in our solar system, an ominous, dark storm – once big enough to stretch across the Atlantic Ocean from Boston to Portugal – is shrinking out of existence as seen in pictures of Neptune taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope. Immense dark storms on Neptune were first discovered in the late 1980s by NASA’s Voyager 2 spacecraft. Since then, only Hubble has had the sharpness in blue light to track these elusive features that have played a game of peek-a-boo over the years. Hubble found two dark storms that appeared in the mid-1990s and then vanished. This latest storm was first seen in 2015, but is now shrinking.
Hubble Watches Neptune's Dark Storm Die
Video above: For the first time, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has captured time-lapse images of a large, dark storm on Neptune shrinking out of existence. Credits: NASA Goddard's Scientific Visualization Studio. Like Jupiter’s Great Red Spot (GRS), the storm swirls in an anti-cyclonic direction and is dredging up material from deep inside the ice giant planet’s atmosphere. The elusive feature gives astronomers a unique opportunity to study Neptune’s deep winds, which can’t be directly measured. The dark spot material may be hydrogen sulfide, with the pungent smell of rotten eggs. Joshua Tollefson from the University of California at Berkeley explained, “The particles themselves are still highly reflective; they are just slightly darker than the particles in the surrounding atmosphere.” Unlike Jupiter’s GRS, which has been visible for at least 200 years, Neptune’s dark vortices only last a few years. This is the first one that actually has been photographed as it is dying. “We have no evidence of how these vortices are formed or how fast they rotate,” said Agustín Sánchez-Lavega from the University of the Basque Country in Spain. “It is most likely that they arise from an instability in the sheared eastward and westward winds.”
Image above: This series of Hubble Space Telescope images taken over 2 years tracks the demise of a giant dark vortex on the planet Neptune. The oval-shaped spot has shrunk from 3,100 miles across its long axis to 2,300 miles across, over the Hubble observation period. Image Credits: NASA, ESA, and M.H. Wong and A.I. Hsu (UC Berkeley). The dark vortex is behaving differently from what planet-watchers predicted. “It looks like we’re capturing the demise of this dark vortex, and it’s different from what well-known studies led us to expect,” said Michael H. Wong of the University of California at Berkeley, referring to work by Ray LeBeau (now at St. Louis University) and Tim Dowling’s team at the University of Louisville. “Their dynamical simulations said that anticyclones under Neptune’s wind shear would probably drift toward the equator. We thought that once the vortex got too close to the equator, it would break up and perhaps create a spectacular outburst of cloud activity.” But the dark spot, which was first seen at mid-southern latitudes, has apparently faded away rather than going out with a bang. That may be related to the surprising direction of its measured drift: toward the south pole, instead of northward toward the equator. Unlike Jupiter’s GRS, the Neptune spot is not as tightly constrained by numerous alternating wind jets (seen as bands in Jupiter’s atmosphere). Neptune seems to only have three broad jets: a westward one at the equator, and eastward ones around the north and south poles. The vortex should be free to change traffic lanes and cruise anywhere in between the jets. “No facilities other than Hubble and Voyager have observed these vortices. For now, only Hubble can provide the data we need to understand how common or rare these fascinating neptunian weather systems may be,” said Wong. The first images of the dark vortex are from the Outer Planet Atmospheres Legacy (OPAL) program, a long-term Hubble project that annually captures global maps of our solar system’s four outer planets. Only Hubble has the unique capability to probe these worlds in ultraviolet light, which yields important information not available to other present-day telescopes. Additional data, from a Hubble program targeting the dark vortex, are from an international team including Wong, Tollefson, Sánchez-Lavega, Andrew Hsu, Imke de Pater, Amy Simon, Ricardo Hueso, Lawrence Sromovsky, Patrick Fry, Statia Luszcz-Cook, Heidi Hammel, Marc Delcroix, Katherine de Kleer, Glenn Orton, and Christoph Baranec. Wong’s paper appears online in the Astronomical Journal on Feb. 15, 2018. The Hubble Space Telescope is a project of international cooperation between NASA and ESA (European Space Agency). NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, manages the telescope. The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Baltimore conducts Hubble science operations. STScI is operated for NASA by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., in Washington, D.C. Hubble sees Neptune's mysterious shrinking storm
Three billion miles away on the farthest known major planet in our solar system, an ominous, dark storm - once big enough to stretch across the Atlantic Ocean from Boston to Portugal - is shrinking out of existence as seen in pictures of Neptune taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope.
Immense dark storms on Neptune were first discovered in the late 1980s by NASA's Voyager 2 spacecraft. Since then, only Hubble has had the sharpness in blue light to track these elusive features that have played a game of peek-a-boo over the years. Hubble found two dark storms that appeared in the mid-1990s and then vanished. This latest storm was first seen in 2015, but is now shrinking.
Like Jupiter's Great Red Spot (GRS), the storm swirls in an anti-cyclonic direction and is dredging up material from deep inside the ice giant planet's atmosphere. The elusive feature gives astronomers a unique opportunity to study Neptune's deep winds, which can't be directly measured.
The dark spot material may be hydrogen sulfide, with the pungent smell of rotten eggs. Joshua Tollefson from the University of California at Berkeley explained, "The particles themselves are still highly reflective; they are just slightly darker than the particles in the surrounding atmosphere."

Unlike Jupiter's GRS, which has been visible for at least 200 years, Neptune's dark vortices only last a few years. This is the first one that actually has been photographed as it is dying.
"We have no evidence of how these vortices are formed or how fast they rotate," said Agustín Sánchez-Lavega from the University of the Basque Country in Spain. "It is most likely that they arise from an instability in the sheared eastward and westward winds."
The dark vortex is behaving differently from what planet-watchers predicted. "It looks like we're capturing the demise of this dark vortex, and it's different from what well-known studies led us to expect," said Michael H. Wong of the University of California at Berkeley, referring to work by Ray LeBeau (now at St. Louis University) and Tim Dowling's team at the University of Louisville.
