who's to say humans are the average? that may just be a matter of perspective. we may be the best at thinking, or the worst at thinking. hell, maybe the way species generally develop causes the vast majority of them to be horrible swimmers and WE are the best in the universe. What the universal intelligent species "average" really is is what i would LOVE to conceptualize.

"Sky diving? No, I have no wish to know. My question is this, why are you so feared? You cannot swim like a Majoriranji, or climb like a Nacbaqur, or run like a Chexit. Can you do anything special? Why should anyone be scared of humans?"

"Is that why you captured us? That's what you want to know?" Mo smiled as he leaned back in his chair. He had been afraid. Now he was amused.

He knew rescue was on the way. Just before the invaders managed to grab him and the other researchers, they were able to send a distress call. The Earth Alliance took attacks on their people seriously, they knew swift responses discouraged casual piracy.

"Okay, you'll probably be dead soon anyway so I'll give you a freebie. We're not the fastest swimmers, but most of us can swim and dive, and we can all hold our breath. We're not the fastest climbers, but our ancestors lived in trees, tall canopy plants, we can all climb. We're not the fastest runners, but we're not bad in a sprint, and we'll still be going hours after your fancy fast runners have collapsed and died of exhaustion. We don't have to be the best at one thing when we can be pretty good at just about everything."

what do you think would happen if like. one of the Bloodmoon twins is accidentally hotboxed and gets a contact buzz, but the other one is completely sober

Imagine it’s the calm twin who gets hotboxed and the chaotic one who isn’t. Poor Blood Moon is just freaking out because his twin is fronting and zoned out on the ceiling and has no clue what to do. Alternatively, Blood Moon is high and going absolutely batshit insane trying to eat all the food he can because he’s got a down bad case of the munchies and Harvest is trying and trying to coax him to calm down and just go visit Monty for them to get fixed (because he thinks it’s an issue with their stomach).

Not even bothering with getting pain meds. They don’t work, make me sick to my stomach, and make me want to kill myself. That on top of a pain med for my spine injury that’ll make me manic? No, thank you. And what’s the point if it doesn’t even work? Let me tell you though, waking up with zero local anesthetic is no joke.

this is actually such a thing that there's a modern latin term for it! "in media res" literally translates to "in the middle of the thing" and describes basically exactly this: starting a story in the middle of the action or scene with little to no context as a hook

I always see people saying they’re writing a whole story just so they can get to writing one scene.

Why not just write that one scene and see where it takes you? Why not start in the middle of the story? Not just as a starting point for your writing. Like you can just make a story start in the middle of something.

Like Joseph Campbell was wrong, you know. You not all stories have the same sort of start. You can start when the boy gets the girl. You can start at the climax of the battle. You can start two scenes before that big argument. You can start after the big argument. You can start after the tragedy. You can open wherever you want. You’re the one in charge here. You’re the one sitting around making stuff up. You have full permission to throw traditional story structures in the garbage if you want to.

while byan relies almost entirely on their knives in terms of weapons, they do have a baseball bat they like to break out every once in a while. they've had it for a few years now, having stolen it off a kid who got on their bad side in middle school, and, naturally, they've painted it pink. they've also plastered a number of cute stickers over it, though most of these have gotten pretty scuffed up over the years (a couple also have some minor blood stains). for the most part, they only really pull it out when they're in the mood to break shit that isn't theirs, but it has seen a bit of action in fights here and there.
