I just read your thoughts about Scarabia and Leona's arc development in game, and I got very interested.
There's very little info on Arabian culture online, at least that I've seen, and also African. A thing that makes me very curious is about their mythologies, folklore, and also music. We know a lot about food, since it's something so universal, but the rest is hard to get info on, unless it gets popularized or romanticized by someone else.
The scarabia arc is one of my favorites for a reason, and that is because I'm very sympathetic with Jamil, and very sad how his and Kalim's story together got so "twisted" so fast (ehe). Honestly there are so many layers to it that it would take many many chapters, and events, to close the situation. But I think it's good they left the future open like that, since it's something that can't be fixed overnight.
And also, *gets down* PLS PLS PLS PLS 🙏 I love the fluffy fics, are you going to also add Bolllywood songs? They are so good seriously it's so dancing and fun! I love Jamil so much and I MELTED with the headcanon short fic where we are taking care of him. I wanna hold his precious handsome face and just kiss it all over! He is so cute I will go FERAL-
hey qamar 💕 this was a pleasure to read! honestly, i feel like both the scarabia and savannaclaw chapters were too short? of course, we were introduced to the themes and then the whole conflict—resolution mountain for stories, however i just feel like they could have done more with the both of them.
also, i think the reason why the southwest-asian and african themes aren’t covered is because the source material is literally disney films 💀 like we get a warning before rewatching aladdin since they just now realized it was kind of racist (still a major part of my childhood though 😭 “a whole new world” in arabic is delicious). based on how yana has written other characters that are meant to be from south asia, there’s a big chance it would have been disappointing anyways.
plus, with scarabia in particular, there’s too many cultures trying to be represented due to how colonizers deemed all of the countries to be the same thing in different fonts 💀 you’d never confuse a nepali with an omani, but winston churchill sure did not care.
the original aladdin movie was meant to take place in baghdad, a city in iraq, but due to political conflicts at the time (george bush a war criminal regardless of saddam hussein’s crimes. the usa literally gave saddam weapons to kill kurds and then turned around and invaded when he wasn’t convenient anymore 💀). baghdad became agrabah—but the culture is still an amalgamation of west asian, south asian, north african, and like eurasian/turkish culture. im sure they’ve got stuff from central asia too 😭
the issue with this is that from ethnic group to ethnic group/country to country, the culture varies a lot. yemenis and palestinians are both arabs, but our cultures are vastly different, with yemenis having more eastern african influences and palestinians having mediterranean influences. i personally headcanon the scarabia duo as arab, but honestly, they could be from anywhere. for all we know, kalim is afghan and jamil is tunisian—it’s all up in the air due to the original source material. but i digress!! i rambled a lot 😭
ON THE BOLLYWOOD NOTE! omg this brought so many good memories back. we used to watch bollywood films with shitty arabic dubs 🥹 i miss those days. i love that idea and ive always wanted to write bollywood inspired fics, like based on the crazy and unrealistic romantic moments in bollywood. it’s just so much fun lmao. honestly, i think that’s a great idea especially when so many bollywood songs just lead the listener through a story anyways. im so glad you enjoy my fics!!! that’s very sweet 💕 have a great day, qamar, and take care of yourself

Madras Cafe, 2013
The worst part is so many people genuinely have been brainwashed into thinking that Modi is the saviour of this nation, no he is not. Don’t call yourself Bhagat Singh if you are a right winger, especially a privileged right winger who benefits from this Hindutva Politics.

I see no one talking abt bangladesh right now and most people are focusing on england but basically a couple weeks ago the uni students started protesting against the job/admission quota previously in place where a percentage of the accepted applicants can get in on other claims such as the women's qouta (it was 10% i think) the disabled quota (somewhere like 1-5%) and the 1971 freedom fighters quota w/ their children and grandchildren which was a whooping 30%.
Naturally people were kinda against that. This girl i talked to on the bus told me she was in 406th position based on her merit but wasn't able to get physics on her uni subject but a guy on the 2385th position did cuz he admitted to the quota system on basis of having a freedom fighter grandparent. So naturally she went to protest too.
Unfortunately politics are a finicky thing so soon you have small terrorist groups attacking the students and causing more destruction and arson. Now there is a death toll. The prime minister has already called the protestors rajakar for going against the 'legacy of our independence' (for context rajakar is basically a slur around here which was used to refer to people from our side during the was who helped pakistan and killed and tortured people worse than they ever did. It was... not a good move)
It gets worse and the police get involved students die. Police officers die. Both of them blame each other. The actual perpetrators are still at large.
The students started a nine point demand but it wasn't accepted and instead people died. So they just turned it into a one point demand for the resignation of the prime minister who has been handling the entire situation quite poorly and has already made things was worse.
As of today on Aug5 near the afternoon (in GMT+6 at least) the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned. And now we await further news.
#also the fucking curfew#nothing was on the tv cuz they were controlling the news channels and all of them were of shitty quality#only the olympics were on and most of the other channels broadcasting hollywood/bollywood movies were straight up deleted#the internet was also down and we spent a while w/ no news abt what was happening#they have banned facebook and whatsapo and all the other major social media sites used in the country cuz they#were used to spread a bunch of rumors which started the whole mess in the first plce#this is my first time w/ a stable internet connection in one month and ive been contacting family to check on everyone#bangladeshi#bangladesh#politics

I love it especially with Celebrities are always saying that they will leave the country if they don't get their way especially in politics
Okay if you're so bent on that still then why haven't you left already

So I doubt polite society is considered “”authentic bollywood“” or whatever but I had so much fun watching it. All movies should be required to have a dramatic dance scene at the top of the third act. This is my gateway drug.

Today, as I sit to pen down my thoughts, my heart feels heavy, burdened by the weight of an incident that shook not just me, but every single person who believes in humanity. The rape that occurred on August 9, 2024, at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata, is a scar on our society, a painful reminder of the safety we fail to provide to our women, to our daughters, to our future.
The fact that even after all these months, justice has not been served is deeply unsettling. Every day that goes by without justice feels like a betrayal to the victim, her family, and to every woman who fights to exist in this world without fear. I find myself questioning, again and again — how did we let it come to this? How is it that, in a world that claims to be progressive, we are still struggling with something as basic as ensuring a woman's right to safety?
The government, which should be our protector, seems to have turned its back. Where are the leaders who promised us change? Where are the laws that were meant to protect our sisters, mothers, and daughters? Silence from those in power is a wound deeper than the crime itself. It sends a message that women's lives, their dignity, and their safety do not matter. It makes me feel helpless, yet angry, because justice delayed is justice denied.
I can't stop thinking about the victim and the courage it takes to live through something so devastating. Her strength, and the strength of every woman who survives such brutality, is beyond words. And yet, why must they carry the burden while the system continues to fail them?
As I reflect on this tragic event, I end with a few words, a prayer, and a demand for justice. Because until we, as a society, truly value and protect our women, we cannot claim to be free or equal.
"Woh maa ki beti thi, sapno se bhari thi,
Zindagi se ladi thi, par phir bhi haari thi.
Insaaf ke rang ab pheeke padte ja rahe,
Hak ki awaaz sunne wale khamosh ho ja rahe.
Kab tak yunhi betiyan dar ke jeengi?
Kab tak yeh zameen sirf unka qaid khaana rahegi?"
I hope, with every fiber of my being, that one day we wake up to a world where women are truly safe, where justice is not a distant dream but a lived reality.
Until then, we must keep fighting.
Ayush

good evening to everyone this is your reminder that i am not a desi mutual to you, do not ever call me desi, i am a northeastern tribal and a dalit and a christian and i have never felt 'indian' my entire life. i sure as hell will not be claiming any indianness anytime soon. not when all of what is considered 'indian', 'south asian', and 'desi' is used to invisibilise the various facets of my identity. i am indian for the purpose of placing me geographically and nationally. know my place and know yours!!
#getting a new wave of s. asian followers#we can agree on politics and share the same views; we can be allies#we can be friends and get along#just don't try to assume too much#we can be on good terms and have similar experiences and know similar pop culture references#but u do not get to play in-group out-group games with things like#bollywood + food + language + culture

I’m finally watching rrr after putting it off for a time I felt up to watching a movie and I’m only like 40 minutes in but I’m so curious as to why they decided to widely distribute the Hindi dubbed version instead of the original telugu when most international viewers are using subtitles anyways
#I know there are some internal politics that probably contribute to this but it’s interesting to me nonetheless#I love any film that gives me wide angle shots that show off the local geology though#so I’m eating that shit uppppp#I typically watch Bollywood films that aren’t dubbed which is why this is strange to me#it’s the first one I’ve watched at least thst I recall that is like this

Feeling like a God because you wore bindi, kajal and French braid against your school's protocols
Sharing tiffin with other class's friends because your teacher said not to go to their class for lunch
Having a deep and friendly yet heated debate with you classmates on political and historical topics during classes because your teacher is cool and supports debating
Discussing national and international topics with your group like a pro economists
Analysing psychological cases with teacher and relating it with real life
Sitting with your group silently while sketching and scrbbling notes because it's a free period
Showing your friends your sketch and them correcting them
Solving riddles and mysteries with friends because together you are much more smarter
Talking in sophisticated English but cursing in hindi then next minute because some idiot decided to piss you off
Standing outside of school gate and chatting with all standard friends until the guard kicks us out going home together because on off them had a vehicle and you want to save money
