I ate some kbbq today and I swear the sandman brainrot is growing mold inside my brain because all I could think about was making a comic series which explores hob taking dream to all kinds of different restaurants from different cultures and having him try the food in the waking
In a kbbq, hob would show dream how to properly grill meat and to eat it and space it between the sour, salty, spicy refreshing banchan and show him how the sauces can completely transform the taste of the bolgogi based on the diff combos. Dream would be reserved, but still, with interest sparkling in his eyes because he’s right in front of this instead of experiencing it through a dreamer—and there are so many choices and ways to approach this meal. (Dream thinks hob doesn’t notice when he subtly leans in. Hob does. He’s very endeared by it!)
This thought was inspired by the fanfiction pie of birds and grief and ocean water by Chrome
Hob is the embodiment of the enjoyment of every kind of human pleasure from grand to simple—and of course of the most simplest yet grandest pleasures of being human is tasting the awesome foods that people have come up with over the years. As a medieval peasant constantly worrying about his next meal and being destitute during several periods of history, hob knows well how potent the simple joy of a full stomach can be. How can be compounded by being with a dear friend.
And dream, dream is millions of years old, of course he’s very familiar with food from all kinds of cultures and the idea of what it tastes smells and looks like and he’s starved before—for a hundred years—(even though it wasn’t shown in the show, he was really really hungry after he escaped his imprisonment) but food is more of a formality. Its to keep up appearances at family gatherings and to foster hospitality between important lords and ladies. Like occasionally eating, dream only does most of what he does because he has too.
And hob, eager to share with dream the joys of what he has experienced, sticks a spoonful of salted steamed egg into dreams mouth and dream—in the company his close friend, not starving or having to pretend out of politeness—feels the tension drain out of his shoulder when the taste spreads throughout his human tongue and warms his stomach with the smile of his oldest friend in front of him and he simply. enjoys.
(I didn’t get a pic of our steamed egg because we ate it so quickly but it was so good guys it was SO GOOD)
#the sandman#dream of the endless#hob gadling#dreamling#take it as platonic or not#there is something that is simple yet amazing and genuine about enjoying food with people you love#I think that food is one of the greatest joys of living and good food with good people is what I’ll remember when everything else fails#musings

Got a packet of spicy bolgogi sauce free with a hello fresh box so I threw it into a pork marinade with some Lao Gan Ma and a couple vinagers. I'll stir fry it tomorrow and we will see if my cooking instincts are alright
#my post#i tend to put too many flavors in but I think it should mellow out when cooked#also I just found the lao gan ma and got really excited

Get ready for sadness.
There is this international market near where I live that is HUGE. Not like MEGA WALMART big, but big enough to have three small restaurants, a Spanish bakery, and some other small sellers inside. When I first went there I noticed a Korean restaurant right after the checkout. It took me a few times of shopping there before I went in though, and I wish I had sooner. It was owned by a family, but mostly run by the grandmother, and she was a delight. I would order Bolgogi, and she would bring me some with a small dish of kimchi and cucumber salad. I took one bite, and I knew I was ruined.
It does not matter if they are related to you or not, when a grandma makes food with love, you can taste it. I went at least once a week (if I could afford it) and she was always so kind and caring. She always asked if I needed a fork, and when I politely declined and dug in with chopsticks instead, she would give me a proud smile and a pat on my shoulder. (look, I am a very white looking woman who was clearly learning how to pronounce the food. Sure, that's a really low bar, but as soon as I got a taste for Korean Grandma's affection, I was looking forward to that moment every week!)
With it being family owned it would close early sometimes, and as I'm a night owl I would often come to eat and find it closed. But I wasn't too bothered, until it was closed three visits in a row. On my fourth visit to the market, I asked my cashier about it. She told me that the grandmother had passed away, and none of her kids really wanted that restaurant anyway. I was completely shocked and responded "She didn't seem that old! Did something happen? Was she sick?"
"I'm not too sure, I think it was an illness or something. It's a shame though. Lots of people have been saying she was really kind."
I think about her a lot.
reblog this and tag with a food you no longer have access to (closed restaurant, state you moved away from, ex’s mom’s cooking, etc) that will haunt you until your dying day, mine are the spicy chicken sandwich on the employee menu at the fine dining restaurant I was a prep cook at, and the onion bagel from the kosher place down the street from my house when I lived in the city

Otakon 2018 Review
So it’s my first time at the DC venue and I think the move was a good call. The convention center is so big so there was actually room to move and breathe!
Hotel: The Westin
We actually stayed in a hotel since AirBnB prices were around the same. The Westin is only about a 15 minute walk to the convention center so not too bad even though I was in full cosplay. The rooms look over the lobby area so you can people watch. The layout is similar to the Gaylord Hotel.
Parking: GW hospital
Parking in DC for 24 hours are limited and expensive. So the best way is to park in the closest hospital and uber back to the hotel. The hospital visitor’s parking lot was really crowded and had many sharp turns. There were lots of scrape marks on the walls.
Food:
So after we picked up badges, we went to get Korena bbq at Kogiya. It’s delicious but I thought that they had the bolgogi on their all you can eat menu. On Friday night, we went to Dolcezza for some gelato which was wonderful cause I was dying from the heat. For Saturday’s dinner, we went to Bantam King which had some yummy fried chicken. The cold noodles that my sister got were pretty good too. After that dinner, we had an eel bowl from Donburi. Eel is amazing so it’s obviously good but I was surprised to find that they have that in DC. The rest of the time I had curry chicken bowl from one of the shops in the convention center. A bowl was around $12 and it was pretty decent. It was not worth finding a place to eat in full cosplay and then going through bag check again.
Con:
We breezed through badge pickup on Thursday. Couldn’t take pictures of a lot of cosplayers cause the staff were discouraging people from loitering around. The bag check lines went by fast. And there were escalators and stairs which saved my feet. I remember climbing up stairs in the old location and I was not happy. And did I mention that I love having space to breathe. There were very few traffic jams. It was hard to find cosplayers though to take pictures because the convention was so big. The merch hall was disappointing. Barely a single Kpop booth and apparently no one cares about AoT. Artist alley was a bit better as I did buy lots of prints but nothing Gintama related....
Everyone knew Ahri but I wasn’t expecting anyone to know about Shiro. So I was super happy that 4 people recognized me! While I was Shiro, I was stopped and offered a part time job (hahahaha). It was for UNIPX, a Chinese talent company who wanted people to stream interesting content. I don’t think anyone wants to see me struggle to stick a fake eyelash to my semi-monolid hahaha.
I went to 2 workshops and unfortunately skipped out on all the kpop workshops since I couldn’t flail around with my props. On Saturday, I did a cosplay MV so I got to twirl with my fish umbrella which was pretty fun. I did a photoshoot for Shiro which was cut short due to camera issues but the photographer was very nice and professional. I must be going deaf because I could barely hear her instructions and the fish was so heavy and big that I had limited options to move. But she already gave me the pictures back and they look really clean.
Overall, it was a great con!
