Interesting that it happened in Spain, too
ferdinand, who was pushing for this marriage, too, seems to have made the point/in its defense, cited the case of two of his daughters marrying the same husband. i believe catherine’s ‘team’ once the GM materialized did the same. however, odd as it sounds, the levitical prohibition very specifically states that it applies to anyone who marries his “brother’s wife” (but not brother’s widow, technically, another point of catherine’s, although considering ‘marry’ is the verb here, was that really how the verse was meant to be taken? as an edict against bigamy but specifically of this sort? when it’s prohibited in another verse? so went henry’s ‘team’). the rest of the levitical verse makes no mention of marriages to your sister’s husband, this seems to have actually happened with alarming frequency in royal marriages, and notably philip ii believed it would be possible in his suit to wed elizabeth i.
so, arguably the case of isabella and maria of aragon marrying the same man (namely, the second having issue, including sons) didn’t really apply...at least not as far as what henry’s argument was for his marriage’s invalidity.
besides this very-recently discovered one, the only royal marriage i know that would have been a levitical prohibition was one of a royal of naples and his half-aunt in the 1490s. there was no issue from that one, but i don’t believe henry used the precedent. both actually have different caveats, which is interesting ("If a man has sexual relations with his aunt, he has dishonored his uncle. They will be held responsible; they will die childless.” vs” If a man marries his brother’s wife, it is an act of impurity; he has dishonored his brother. They will be childless.” ...so one has a proscribed but unspecific punishment, [’they will be held responsible’], an ascribed punishment from god of ‘they will die childless’, meaning there is no way to not, versus an ascribed punishment from god of they will ‘be childless’...meaning as long as the marriage is intact. tl; dr there’s a lot of skepticism about henry’s faith as it pertains to the GM in general, but campeggio didn’t judge him ‘as studied as any great theologian or jurist’ in the case for nothing)

Any thoughts on this? Normally, I like Estelle's videos but this one disappointed me. I don't think Edward would've been a tyrant had he lived to adulthood. She goes into a lot of speculation here without considering the actual facts of how Edward reigned when he was alive. I have a theory that the reason so many historians, Tracy Borman is another one that comes to mind, insist Edward would've been a tyrant and than insist in the same breathe that Mary wasn't one is because of their gender differences. Mary's reputation has to be reconsidered because she was a woman but apparently slandering Edward's reputation is okay?

Things what I have learned
Now that my first novel is done, I'm reflecting on what I learned in the last 2-3 years. Tagging @theladyelizabeth @boleynqueenes @annabolinas because they are the fic writers that spring to mind.
Don’t try and write in one document because you can’t do it.
You just can’t. It’s too long. The document will get unwieldy very quickly. You don’t have to have a new doc for every chapter but please. Chunk. Make it easy to find scenes again without having to wade through pages and pages and dozens of keyword search results.
Highlight placeholder text so your eye doesn’t skip over it upon rereads.
I speak from painful experience here.
Start with a timeline of all the events
You are never going to remember every single little thing that is happening. You cannot memorise the order everything happens because things change on a daily or even hourly basis. Who died first on 17 November? Mary or Pole? Don’t force yourself to remember. WRITE IT DOWN. “Oh I’ll just compile my notes on that event when I come to it” NO. Start with the foundations. Otherwise you’ll be talking about the Pope and be like SHIT I forgot about the Sack of Rome and him being the emperor’s prisoner because I was busy writing Henry’s intense tennis match”.
Organise your FUCKING notes
“I don’t need to organise my notes because I won’t be citing anything”. FOOL. Fool fool fool fool fool. That’s the Devil talking.
Events can be organised by the aforementioned timeline. It doesn’t matter if the timeline is excessively detailed because you can always remove irrelevant facts as you write the story. Information about people goes in the character profiles: appearance, character traits, favourite food, favourite books, etc. you never know when these little personal details may get mentioned. I also organise by location: information on church interiors, London, Rome, Hampton Court, Greenwich, the Mary Rose. And by theme: War, Trade, Proverbs, Catholicism, Protestantism, Agriculture, Disease.
Also organise your literal notes. I wrote snippets of dialogue on the backs of receipts. Worse. Down the sides of receipts. The FRONT of receipts. Take time to move notes from your phone to your computer.
Bibliography as you go along
It just saves time. And it’s nice to watch the list get longer.
Write a summary as you go along
Having to summarise at the end is just too daunting because either you worry you missed something out or you have to read the whole thing over again. Whereas if you write a detailed summary as you go along, adjusting it as you change things, it helps you to keep track of your plot beats and what’s happened so far AND for your final summary, you boil down your detailed summary to its essentials, which is easier than writing from scratch, if you ask me.

unpublished fics game
I got this from @nocompromise-noregrets - thank you friend <3333. I’ve been having a ‘this is cliche, annoying, bad writing and not historically accurate/worse than philippa gregory’ brain crisis so I’m hoping to maybe get my brain started by talking about. So I thought I’d divide into categories.
Really Just Ideas/Outlines At Best
TWW Poly AU - the scandal isn’t the MS (they disclosed that) the ‘scandal’ is the Jed/Abbey/Leo relationship
TWW Ballet AU
The Roger/Chioke ‘worst recognises worst but Roger is absolutely playing him like a master musician’
The Plantaganet OT4 AU
The Multifandom Sex Slave AU (set in sort of fantasy Rome)
Persian Jewish Sara Crewe
Robert Dudley Travels Back In Time
TWW characters + trauma survivors
TWW Hunger Games: Abby’s Games
Multifandom Sex Slavery AU
Specific Tudors OT3 Verse Ones (That Are Just Ideas)
Helen Norwich
Dance Rehearsal
Tudors OT3 Verse Ships + Taylor Swift
English Civil War
The Crows Have Cameos
The Big Ones (that actually have stuff published)
Grishaverse Hunger Games: I wrote summaries of all the characters journeys and I wanted to go into detail - I have Jespers and I’m working on Kaz right now (he is very difficult to get talking). It’s taking the fact that the Crows and My Favourites From Shadow And Bone know each other and became friends and made me think - all these different Victors coming together to become family and also take down some fuckers (mostly Darkles)
Rewrite The Stars 2.0: I’m rewriting the first Tudors OT3 verse fic because it was only meant as a one shot and I have so so much more world building and ideas to write. I’m just stuck right now because (see above). It’s a fairy tale with a happy ending but it has a fight, it has pain and it has scars that will remain heavy but also, there will be love.
In another world this is how it might have gone between the three of them. The story of how the love between three extraordinary people change the world for the better and made it the kindest. The story of a fight for a fairytale
Crown Of Ashes:
Crown of Ashes is very inspired by the Taylor Swift Song Castle Crumbling. It’s a ‘what if Mary Tudor made similar choices to her father’ for better (and worse and maybe in between) reasons to her. What if everything the world tells you you should believe and want is wrong actually - what if you get everything you thought you wanted and it sucks.
This one. I know where I want to go, I’m just Not Getting There. I think I need to listen to the playlist again.
Tortall Found Family: Essentially this is about Numair/Arram coming to Tortall, heavy on the Jon-Thayet-Numair friendship but everyone is here, my absolute conviction that Ozorne never stopped loving Numair throughout all the books, that Roger had a really creepy possessive thing for Jon and also BONDING. Also contains Biracial Jon of Conte content (I think).
I’m going to quote from @nocompromise-noregrets here: Do please ask me about any that catch your eye, I am in dire need of talking about them, and it might just kickstart the muses…I do need interaction to spark the ideas, it turns out, I'm not great at this in isolation.
Tagging (if you want to obviously): @boleynqueenes @boleynecklace @theladyelizabeth @jackironsides @emilykaldwen @miabicicletta @unseenacademic @sherwoodknights @corporalicent @dr-dendritic-trees @endoftheworldhere @cinemaocd

@boleynqueen / 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒓.
A hiss lodges itself in William’s throat as his eyes rove over the lewd illustration, sketched onto the back of a dampened Penitence Paper: Queen Anne, his own mother, splayed on all fours, worshiping a serpent as her pregnant belly suspends beneath her. He crumbles the paper and tosses it into the roaring hearth, the heady flames licking at his eyes, at his flesh, at the deep furrow stamped between his brows, the glower gamboling about his mouth. ‘To hell with it,’ he commands, turning on the heel of his sable boot to face the Dowager. ‘It is gone. Uncle has dealt with it. No doubt there will be a round of executions as soon as the culprits are apprehended.’ His conviction does not mask prevarication; no such arrests had yet been made. ‘It will not be long now before the traitor’s blood is spilled.’
Conditions at court were frosty, tense, but the morning was hot. Windy. A gust of September air flutters through the uncurtained windows, attempting to snuff the fire. William crosses the chamber to place a conciliatory hand at his mother’s arm, a compassionate tilt to his copper head. In weather like this, if the papers had not fouled the atmosphere of court, the young king would be hunting; in the wealds beyond Richmond Palace, or traveling downland with his court to the charming countryside of Sussex, riding high on the late-summer airs, strumming virginals beneath a twinkling canopy of stars. Surrounded by the Boleyns, the richest, most powerful family of England. Even at her age, the Dowager would besot them all with her exaggeratedly French graces, her tales of excitement and peril. ‘I beseech you to forget it, mother.’
He steers her toward a pair of seats arranged by the windows, allowing the Dowager to overlook the courtyard, and those courtiers roaming beneath her squinted glare. ‘Come, let us discuss the French – that always lifts your spirits, does it not? I desire you to encourage Bessie’s attentions toward the Dauphin Burghley informs me that the French might look to a Spanish alliance, but you know better than any how undesirable that is for me, for England. We must present a united front to our Parisian guests. This–’ he gestures to the fire, ‘–cannot frighten us.’

Most gracious lady, consider my long, true and faithful heart toward you, and let not this unfortunate place here bereave me of that which above all the world I esteem there, which is your favour and your presence… I do humbly and from my heart prostrate at your feet beg this grace at your sacred hands, that you will be pleased to let me return to my home service with your favour. - 23 May 1586

Establishing a reliable image for Anne Boleyn only accentuates the evidence of contemporaries that her attraction was not outstanding natural beauty. What, then, explains her power? In the first place, she radiated sex. The heir to the Earl of Northumberland would try to break a six-year-old engagement for her; Sir Thomas Wyatt would become passionately involved; and it was the inability of a Flemish musician to stand the heady atmosphere around her that would help bring Anne to destruction. As for Henry, the King's own letters show how explicit was his desire: "Mine own sweetheart, this shall be to advertise you of the great loneliness that I find here since your departing - for I assure you, methinketh the time longer since your departing now last, than I was wont to do a whole fortnight. I think your kindness and my fervencies of love causeth it; for otherwise I would not have thought it possible for so little a while it should have grieved me....wishing myself (especially of an evening) in my sweet-heart's arms, whose pretty duckies I trust shortly to kiss."
