Got tagged by @skinnedcorpse to share 10 songs I’ve been listening to recently! So uhh here are some of mine. :)

Geneva Jacuzzi — Cannibal Babies. Omfg I saw Geneva Jacuzzi perform last night and she was INCREDIBLE. Genuinely like absolutely mindblowing, one of my favorite live shows I’ve seen in a bit. This song in particular has been really sticking out for me.

HEALTH — L.A. Looks. Been on a little bit of a HEALTH kick and this song in particular just fucks so hard. It’s so euphoric and bright. Also I love living in LA.

ACTORS — In Real Life. One of my favorite darkwave bands put out a new single!! I’ve been really hype for new music from them and this track is really good. Been listening to it a bunch.

Clan of Xymox — Louise. I’m about to throw some real classic obvious stuff at y’all cuz I’ve been spending some time with some old faves recently. Been having a Xymox moment. They’re so good.

Siouxsie and the Banshees — Monitor. Man the other day I just threw on Juju for the first time in a bit and was like damn. I can’t believe she did all that. 1981 dropping like legendary iconic classic after classic back to back like that. It’s a cold take I know but god I love this song.

New Order — Age of Consent. This song came on at the club for the first time in ages recently and it went offffffff it was so nice to hear it.

Virgin Prunes — Bau-Dachöng. Sorry for being goth. Was reminded of this album awhile back so I’ve been revisiting it a bunch. I swear it was before St Patrick’s Day I’m not one of those guys I promise.

Male Tears — Creep Distance. This album just screams summertime for me, especially summer 2022 for me. As the weather clears up a little here and the sun is finally coming out I’ve been super nostalgic. Sounds like rum and cherry cola with lime.

Choir Boy — Two Lips. Polar opposite of Male Tears, Choir Boy just screams the nostalgia of cold winter nights, especially their first album.

Beborn Beton — Another World. Goth club staple from the past couple of decades, I’ve heard it in clubs for YEARS but never actually went out of my way to look it up and listen to it recreationally and damn. It goes off actually.

EXURSIONS - C418 -

This is such an amazing album for a lot of reasons, it’s outerworldly soundscapes or it’s blood pumping synthesis, it has something for the old school Minecraft fans and the recent fans of c418

First off the title track, a lush soundscape of twinkeling harmonies and something that calls back to volume alpha.

Cold summer picks up the pace, featuring a sinewave arpeggio that drones throughout and a thumpy bass drum really reminding you that the world of this album isn’t without dance music, this only foreshadows of what to come.

Txl reminds me of a sci fi Buddha giving life to many, it’s retro synths create a minimalistic but soothing atmosphere.

Tingle is the first heavy song on the album with a strong sub bass throughout and a pulsating rhythm interspersed with electric guitar and crackles of the outside to round this off as a first look into this albums better songs.

Beton was the first song created for this album, and it is amazing, opening with a calming set of reverb filled synth lines which then abruptly change into dancefloor shaking sawtooth synths that are sure to get your head moving, this cuts back into a slower section before building back up with vocal chops and a true c418 synth line, this song is really good.

Ams is a well deserved break after the electro jungle of beton it sports a solo piano playing something out of volume alpha, it’s soul transporting you away into a dream or wherever you feel like, it’s a track for the soul as it prepares you for c418s opera

Thunderbird is the Magnum opus of this record, a slow start soon builds intensity untill the kicks of beton Greet you to a genius baseline and chord stabs which are sure to send you into electro heaven, the track continued to build before cutting off with a reverb filled exit as Ams piano fades in but you barely get time to soak it in before the riser begins and you are thrust down the rabbit hole and into the land of hard baselines and pure banger before slowly breaking away, it’s 13 minute run time served it’s purpose.

Aviva is just ama with more bass, not much to say other than poggers.

Figure 8 starts slowly, strings guiding you to the eventual best drop and oh boy does this drop this fucking DROPS and before you know it you are in the land where no treble exists, just bass, and that is perfect. After synth is added back in the sound is full again before a cold summer like sound takes over the sound starts to build before drop 2 electric boogaloo, and it’s pretty good.

Fake triplets is a time only in triplets, c418 saw a crotchet and told it to fuck off. The bass drop is like figure 8 but more tron esc, with undeniably catchy synth riffs and a bit of handspan just so you remember who you are listening to. It does this a couple more times but to be holes I get lost.

Nest is like taking a microphone and holding it up to Daniel rosenfeilds Brian, chaotic electronic and catchy

Home is a desolate soundscape of concrete mscheinery which dominate the musical landscape

Atx got its name from the airport, and it’s music did too, with rhythm and noise coming from everywhere before slowly slowing down as the airport in your mind closes.

Leak starts slow, but with a small swelling synth building up untill BOOM the bass kicks in and so does your heart, the blood flowing like the lead of the song, never letting go of the hold of the song this song never lets up, and with its voltage inspired leads I wouldn’t even want it too. It finally slows to open the gate to my favourite song on the record

The president is dead opens with distorted vocals before a synth line begins caked in space, it is a street through the soundscape before the riser leads you in to the first drop of delay and goodness before the three cymbal hit and bam the stereo feild opens up into a space filled with stars and planets before the bass line returns like a warning tone on a ship or some sort of dubstep ringtone. Before the three cymbal hit crashes you doen to earth as you settle back from your musical voyage, but only halfway through ofcourse, the three cymbals open you up to a deep and strange like expanse of sound where not even god can save you, before building up into something incredible, and then dying down into a thumpy bass line

Hope is a quiet subdue ending, that sends you drifting the ocean of data and a stary sky of led bulbs, a fitting end to an amazing album

Beton dominiert das heutige Bauwesen. Er weist jedoch große Mängel auf. Er verbraucht viel Wasser, viel Energie, produziert viel CO2 und hält bei Stahlbeton bestenfalls 80 Jahre. Außerdem schützt er nicht ausreichend vor Hitze und fördert so den Einsatz von Klimaanlagen, die aufgrund ihres Energieverbrauchs die globale Erwärmung verstärken. Ungestrichener Stahlbeton rostet und die Risse füllen sich mit Wasser, das gefriert und den Beton aufplatzen lässt.

Zwar ist er gut geeignet, um Bauwerke zu stützen und unter Wasser zu bauen, doch für unter Spannung stehende Strukturen wie Wohnhäuser oder Brücken gibt es weitaus geeignetere Materialien. Die drei Arte-Reportagen „Baustoffe von gestern und morgen“ (“Matériaux d’hier et de demain”) zeigen praktikable und umweltfreundlichere Alternativen: Stampflehm, Bambus, Lehm, Holz, unbewehrter Beton der Römer und Fasern, Hanf, Stein und Ziegel.

Bilmiyordu varoluşunun yeni bir başlangıçta kavrulacağını. Kalktı. Hızlıca saklanmaya yürüdü son bir kere diyerek.

A Visceral, Brutal & Real Horror Story: despre „The Zone of Interest” (2023) *****

Soții Hedwig (Sandra Hüller) și Rudolf (Christian Friedel) au o viață perfectă, la care visează de când aveau 17 ani. Au o familie frumoasă (5 copii și un cățel năzdrăvan), o casă cu teren (lângă un râu), o curte în care Hedwig crește kale, dovleci, viță de vie și flori (printre altele), o piscină cu tobogan, o seră mare ca-ntr-o grădină botanică, servitori care le îngrijesc constant grădina și casa. S-au mutat de 3 ani din oraș la țară, făcându-și o viață bucolică, al cărei ritm este marcat de întâlniri cu prietenii (și copiii lor), mese în familie, vizite de la mama soacră (mândră nevoie-mare de cât de bine s-a realizat fiica ei), pescuit și ieșiri cu barca... Trăiesc într-o bulă parfumată, confortabilă, pe care simt că o merită.

Singurul inconvenient – deși niciunul dintre membrii familiei nu e prea deranjat de asta – este zidul de beton care îi desparte de zona de lângă: lagărul de concentrare nazist Auschwitz (Polonia), al cărui comandant este fix Rudolf Höss... Marea problemă a familiei Höss e doar mutarea lui Rudolf în Oranienburg, aproape de Berlin: Hedwig nu vrea să vină cu el (cum și-ar putea părăsi casa de vis?), așa că merge singur, fracturând familia.

Rudolf are mai multă compasiune pentru propriul cal, decât pentru evreii uciși cu sutele (vreo 500 în 7 ore, mai exact, grație noului crematoriu circular super eficient, inventat de naziști). Hedwig n-are nicio problemă cu primirea unor cadouri pătate de sânge – scena cu haina de blană este zguduitoare. Nici cu norul portocaliu de flăcări și fum, care pătează însângerat cerul și luminează ferestrele casei, noaptea. Sau cu faptul că au casa plină de evrei care le îngrijesc copiii și grădina. Iar băieții lor se joacă nu doar cu soldăței, ci și cu dinți umani.

Juxtapunerea între idilicul domestic și ororile lagărului este obscenă. Termenul derivă din grecul „ob skené” (în traducere, „în afara scenei”), iar filmul regizat și scris de Jonathan Glazer fix asta face: stabilește o divizie strictă între ce e vizibil pe ecran și ce nu. Scenariul nu-ți arată direct ororile și violența care au loc dincolo de zid. Le transmite simbolic, elegant și sistematic, prin culori, sunete (vezi începutul și finalul peliculei sau secvențele cu fetița poloneză filmată în infraroșu, noaptea), gesturi, simboluri (poveștile spuse de Rudolf copiilor săi, ca cea a fraților Hänsel și Gretel și a vrăjitoarei împinse în cuptor de micuți) – care sunt atât de pătrunzătoare încât ești scufundat complet în obscenitate și genocid și ești stors de orice urmă de speranță, la final.

Pe cât de multe orori vezi pe ecran, pe atât de multe rămân nespuse. Urmăriți filmul, citiți și povestea nepotului lui Rudolf (Rainer), și descoperiți că cel dintâi era un profesionist desăvârșit (care a reușit să omoare 40.000 de evrei în doar 56 de zile, deci peste 7.000/zi!), că șoferul lui ștergea constant căpșunile din grădina familiei de cenușa adunată și că cei mici au mers cu tati la serviciu într-o zi, purtând la gât plăcuțe de metal, pentru a nu fi confundați cu evreii din lagăr și a fi omorâți...

Nu știu cât de mult contribuie la asta faptul că străbunicul meu (Alexandru Timu) avea sânge de evreu, dar Holocaustul m-a lovit mereu în plex și orice poveste cinematografică despre asta – ca „Schindler’s List” (1993), „La vita è bella” (1997), „Train de vie” (1998), „The Pianist” (2002) sau „The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” – mi se pare necesară (profesorii de istorie ar trebui să-și ducă elevii la cinema, să vadă „The Zone of Interest”).

Întrebările care te bântuie mult timp după terminarea filmului sunt aceleași pe care ți le pui de prima dată când înveți, la școală, despre ororile nazismului. Cum au putut oamenii ăștia să facă ce-au făcut: să excludă sistematic evreii și să-i masacreze în masă? Cum a putut Rudolf (și atâția ca el) să-și pună uniforma, să-și sărute familia și să plece zilnic la muncă, dincolo de zid, unde anihila atâtea vieți? Cum au putut nevestele oficialilor naziști să iubească astfel de oameni, sprijinindu-i zi de zi, cu seninătate? Și să-și crească odraslele privind către un viitor național-socialist luminos, în slujba Führerului? Și cum pot unii oameni să nege până astăzi (și e clar că unii o vor face mereu) gravitatea „soluției finale”?

Răspunsul? Istoricii explică că e o combinație de factori: umilința generată de pierderea Primului Război Mondial, teama de comunism (propaganda vitriolică punea semnul egal între iudaism și bolșevism) și grupările naționaliste care voiau să make Germany great again (sună cunoscut?) au creat nevoia acută de a da vina pe cineva (și de a te putea răzbuna, fizic).

Oamenii au înghițit pe nemestecate otrava lui Adolf Hitler, iar justificarea pe care o oferă foștii naziști nu este „Dacă n-aș fi făcut asta, aș fi fost împușcat”, ci „În acel moment, părea că fac ceva corect”. Documentarul Netflix „Ordinary Men – «The Forgotten Holocaust»” (2023) ilustrează fix asta: soldații nu erau monștri, iar motivele lor țineau de un pack behaviour motivat de teama de ostracizare socială. Poate răspunsul la toate întrebările de mai sus este că, în anumite circumstanțe, oricare dintre noi poate comite atrocități.

Filmul are o oră și 44 de minute, dar pare mult mai lung și atârnă greu. Este o capodoperă care, la fel ca „Schindler’s List”, se termină cu o secvență reală, menită să te zguduie și să-ți transmită că istoria nu trebuie uitată – altfel va fi repetată. „The Zone of Interest” a fost laureat cu Marele Premiu la Cannes, a câștigat 3 BAFTA și a primit Oscarul pentru „cel mai bun film străin” și „cel mai bun sunet”. Le merită din plin și toate aplauzele din lume: e o istorie dureroasă și care creează neputință în orice privitor. E de neratat!
