Down we go into the depths again! This week on the Vintage RPG Podcast, we descent into The Maze of Peril (1986), a fantasy novel by Dr. John Eric Holmes. Holmes is best know for creating the first D&D Basic Rules box set (1977), but he also wrote fantasy fiction (in addition to his day job as a neurologist). At a glance, Maze of Peril doesn’t inspire much confidence as to its quality, but it winds up being a fun adventure that captures something of the spirit of the early days of Dungeons & Dragons — something countless other hard-trying fantasy novels have failed to do.

Maison Kei is the sister restaurant by Michelin 3 stars Restaurant Kei Paris. Their signature dish “Jardin de Légumes croquants” was nice harmony of various vegetables and textures with Bollinger Rose. Rich and juicy babbles of Blanc de Noir champagne was very nice with this rich signature salad. For another their signature dessert “Vacherin” was served with Coteaux champenois. It was also really nice with the Japanese classic “Anko” sauce. Told my coworker/new friend that my favorite band was Oingo Boingo and they looked at me skeptically cause the bands name is Oingo Boingo but 15 minutes later they came back from their break with spotify open on their phone and pointed at the Oingo Boingo album they had up and was like "I LOVE THIS??" (The reason Steve Dallas and Bill the Cat are at the hearing is that at this point in the strip, they had a heavy metal band called Deathtöngue, subsequently renamed "Billy and the Boingers"; the collection in which this strip was first reprinted included a flexi disc with two of their songs, which of course are terrible.)

Inspired by an earlier post to share this: my mixed tape collection from the 90's. 😅 With some store-bought ones in there as well because I'm never completely organized. It would've been really helpful if I had labeled them more by the artists or genre than just "mix". 😐 I started to in the beginning, but on most tapes the songs and artists are written neatly on the front where you can't see them! Probably haven't played these since the early 2000's and I don't know when I'll ever play them again. So here they sit. 😶

Also found the handmade tape my friends and I recorded one very rainy Labor Day. None of us were really musicians (in fact, it all sounds pretty awful), but I seemed to have fun creating the design for the cassette tape.
