The Ultimate Guide to Boat Detailing in Naples, FL
Tumblr media
Owning a boat is a cherished experience, but it also comes with responsibilities, and one of the most crucial is proper maintenance. Boat detailing is an essential part of keeping your vessel in top-notch condition. If you're in Naples, FL, you're in luck! In this comprehensive guide, we'll delve into the world of boat detailing, why it's important, what it involves, and how to find the best boat detailing services in Naples, FL.
Chapter 1: The Importance of Boat Detailing
1. Preserve Aesthetics: Boat detailing keeps your vessel looking its best. It removes dirt, grime, and oxidation, revealing the natural shine of your boat.
2. Protect Against Elements: The harsh marine environment can take a toll on your boat's exterior. Detailing provides a protective barrier against saltwater, UV rays, and pollutants.
3. Enhance Resale Value: Regular detailing maintains your boat's value. A well-kept vessel is more appealing to potential buyers and can fetch a higher price when it's time to sell.
Chapter 2: What Does Boat Detailing Involve?
1. Exterior Detailing:
Washing: A thorough wash removes surface dirt and salt, preparing the boat for further detailing.
Compounding: This process removes oxidation, light scratches, and water spots, restoring the boat's shine.
Polishing: Polishing brings out the brilliance of the boat's surface and provides an added layer of protection.
Waxing: A coat of wax acts as a shield against UV rays and saltwater, keeping your boat looking good for longer.
2. Interior Detailing:
Cleaning: Vacuuming, wiping down surfaces, and cleaning upholstery keep the interior fresh and inviting.
Deodorizing: Removing odors ensures a pleasant environment for you and your guests.
Protecting Surfaces: Applying protective products keeps vinyl, leather, and other materials from deteriorating.
3. Engine Compartment Detailing:
Cleaning and Degreasing: Removing grime and oil buildup keeps the engine running smoothly.
Inspecting for Issues: Detailing provides an opportunity to spot and address potential engine problems early.
Chapter 3: When Should You Detail Your Boat?
1. Regular Basis: It's recommended to detail your boat at least once a year, or more frequently if you use it frequently or live in a coastal area with high salt content in the air.
2. Before Storage: Detailing before storing your boat for an extended period helps protect it from the elements.
3. Before Selling: A well-detailed boat is more likely to fetch a higher price in the market.
Chapter 4: Finding the Best Boat Detailing Services in Naples, FL
1. Ask for Recommendations: Seek recommendations from fellow boaters, friends, or marina staff. Personal referrals are a great way to find reliable services.
2. Online Reviews and Ratings: Check online platforms like Google, Yelp, or specialized boating forums for reviews and ratings of boat detailing services in Naples, FL.
3. Verify Licensing and Insurance: Ensure that the detailing service is licensed and properly insured. This protects both you and the service provider.
4. Experience and Expertise: Look for a detailing service with experience in working with boats similar to yours. They should be knowledgeable about various boat materials and finishes.
5. Request a Quote: Ask for a detailed quote that outlines the services included. This will help you understand the cost and what to expect.
6. Visit the Facility (if possible): If feasible, visit the detailing facility to get a sense of their equipment, cleanliness, and overall professionalism.
Chapter 5: DIY Boat Detailing Tips
If you're inclined to tackle boat detailing on your own, here are some simple tips:
1. Use Marine-Grade Products: Ensure that the cleaning and detailing products you use are designed specifically for boats to prevent damage.
2. Work in Sections: Detailing can be a time-consuming process, so work on one section at a time to ensure thoroughness.
3. Follow Manufacturer Recommendations: Refer to your boat's manual for specific detailing instructions and recommended products.
Chapter 6: Conclusion
Boat detailing is not just about aesthetics; it's about protecting your investment and ensuring years of enjoyment on the water. In Naples, FL, where the sun shines bright and the water beckons, taking care of your boat is a labor of love. Whether you choose to enlist the services of a professional detailing company or embark on a DIY project, the effort you put into boat detailing will pay off in the form of a well-preserved, beautiful vessel that's ready for any maritime adventure. Happy boating!

Vehicle Stereo Default Replacement by 17Masso
"I miss being able to blast music while my sims drive in The Sims 2. I wonder why EA ever took that feature away in The Sims 3. This mod isn't perfect, but it was the easiest solution and it works. The script I used is from EA's store content vehicle the Classically Cool Fixer-Upper. Enjoy! All vehicles except motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, boats, police cars, hovers, taxis, relocation rover, service, limos, store content, and custom content work with this mod. If you want other vehicles to have the same functions then use S3PE to copy the script from the Classically Cool Fixer-Upper and replace. If your sims are driving a 4 seat vehicle only 2 sims in the front will be visible. I want to explore the possibility of making the back seats usable, but for now I don't know. Sims will autonomously use different functions of the car that came with the Classically Cool Fixer-Upper script. It will look weird, but there are ways to disable autonomy with Nraas. If this doesn't bother you then you can leave it as is because it doesn't cause any game breaking issues/glitches.

JJ Maybank// Healing Takes Time Pt.2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
JJ Maybank X Jade (Booker) Routledge
Plot: When Jade is all alone at the chateau falling asleep on the hottest night of the year she hears a loud noise that makes her skin crawl. She discovers JJ on the sofa after what seems like a run-in with the kooks again. With some reluctance he allows his best friend's Twin to patch him up. Falling apart in her clutch that night she discovers that the clash he experienced earlier was something deeper than just some lousy rich boy. He returns to her every time it occurs, he never talks and always leaves before Jade stirs away. That is until one day he does.
Word Count: 4.7k+
Disclaimer: Brother's bestfriend, slow burn, talks of domestic abuse, and mentions of underage drinking. minor writing errors even though this is edited.
{Part One}
----
The excruciating heat from the summer sun had made sleep too uncomfortable to keep. Sweat began to latch onto every inch of my body like a second skin. I felt drowsy as my mind began pulling to the front again.
The empty space beside me still radiated warmth from the boy who occupied it last night. A strange feeling of lost overwhelmed me at the knowledge of JJ escaping while I was unconscious. But there also was a foreign and very pleasant emotion starting to plant its-self.
What the fuck is happening to me?
With a cat nap stretch I grasps the most ancient iPhone I've laid eyes on, but it was $500 dollars cheaper than a brand new one, I shouldn't be complaining. Three hours before my shift at the Pelican Yacht Club and another hour ahead of my alarm. Unfortunately there's no chance of me passing out again with the temperatures so high today.
With a heavy heart I scoured the house just incase JJ decided to relocate himself. Every room was completely vacant and there was no sign of life anywhere. John B still appeared to on hiatus and the concern began fluttering. That kid better have the decency to send me a text soon.
After a hot shower I still felt mentally exhausted from the night I had with JJ. It shattered my heart to see him that vulnerable, that broken. I want that prick to drown himself six-hundred feet under the sea. Jay wasn't anything close to perfect but he definitely didn't deserve to be beaten by the one person who was suppose to protect him.
I hoped that blonde boy didn't escape back home to that sorry excuse of a man he was forced to call dad. My throat tightened and it was hard to contain the burning tears.
I took my time preparing myself. I wasn't a fan of your every day kook but with the pay my promotion brought just about made up for it.
Capturing my Jeep keys, I made my way out of the Chateau and through the porch. The yard was Pogue-less and the Twinkie was not in her original spot. Where the hell was my brother? Although my day would go a lot more seamless if I knew where he was. I'm still passive-aggressive towards him for leaving me in that damned place alone.
With the spare time and extra cash I had I was able to grab a bite to eat and hit up the gas station. I really needed to get mobile minutes and fill up the Jeep for the rest of the week.
----
I was relived to be sitting at the reception desk in the cool air conditioned building. Watching a few others from the cut maintaining and fuel up various boats out on the docks. A job I had last year and frankly didn't miss for a single second. Taking this job serious was the best decision I've made in my entire life.
Through the glass door I could see a familiar SUV pulling up front. I spotted Kiara, another friend of my twin brother. She rounded the rear and started for the front doors. I consider Kie a friend of mine as well, she often pulled me along with them. Always mentioning how nice it was to have another girl around to balance out that intoxication masculine energy.
"Good evening, Miss Carrera. Is there anything I help you with today?" I announced in my service voice once she walked through the doors. She flashed me a mischievous grin and I swore I could giggle at the sight.
Kiara wore a vibrant and suitable outfit for the hot weather. She always had such a fun style making me yearn for a body I didn't have. I loved my curves but the hope for Kiara donating to my empty closet was almost comparable. It was hard to find cute discounted or thrifted clothing in my size.
"Yes, Miss Routledge I need the Carrera's Princess y72 fueled and prepped for an evening trip to the mainland." She held an elegant tone and straighten her posture as she addressed me.
I forced a laugh down and continued to play along with our ruse. "Not a problem, It'll be ready for 3:00pm. How does that sound?"
"That simply will not do." She shook her head and both of her front braids followed. "Did you not hear me? I said evening trip." I almost chocked sensing how much she struggled to keep the kook behavior.
"My apologies Miss Carrera. How does 5:00pm sound instead." I offered,
"Yes, why couldn't you just get it right the first time?" she pawed the air in displeasure.
It took two seconds before we fell into a fit of laughter so hard it began to hurt. Her dark skin starting to turn pink as she gasped for air and it only made me laugh harder.
The clearing of ones voice had me swallowing down the ounce of happiness I had today. Fear washed over me as I spotted my boss Pike, standing a few feet away. Arms crossed over his lean chest as he analyzed the scene before him.
"Sorry, sir." I croaked.
He approached the reception desk and leaned his body weight against it. With firm green eyes he stared me down. At the tense anticipation I prepared myself for a scolding. A small one, but a scolding nonetheless.
Glancing at Kiara I could have sworn her eyes almost rolled out of their sockets. I opened my mouth to investigate my punishment but nothing came out.
"Loosen up kid." He breaks into humorous smile. "You dedicated so much to this company and as long as you're doing your job I don't care who comes to visit you during your shift." He shrugs nonchalantly.
The sword above my head vanished into thin air and my lungs began filling back up with oxygen again. "You have no idea how good it feels to hear you say that. I was worried you were fed up with me." I say with a smile of appreciation.
"I could never be, just keep up the good work." He replies with a wink and a too friendly smile as he began retreating.
"As always." I speak over my shoulder watching his tall frame disappear behind the pristine blue wall. My presentable mannerism fleeting my being once my attention clung onto Kiara again.
"Now what were you going to ask me before you almost got me fired." I sassed and gave her a lighthearted glare.
She scoffs dramatically and says "If anything I pushed you closer to the manager position. Pike really seems to be impressed with your work ethic." Kiara's face softened and I couldn't help the proud smile spreading onto my lips at the adoration swirling in her brown eyes.
"Maybe," I shrug. "But it's a tinsey bit fetched considering I'm part-time for ten months out of the year." I say knowing this might be it for me.
"You'll get there, I promise." She says it like she too understood the hardships of living on the cut. As if she had to take bread from the clearance shelf and store it in the freezer. Or fill five dollar condition half way when it was a quarter way empty.
I could taste the bitterness trying to over take this tender moment I was sharing with Kie. I despised myself for every comparing my life against hers. Sure it was unfortunate I born into poverty, but it wasn't her fault she had all these advantages in life.
"I'll hold you to it." I tease lassoing back that buoyant atmosphere we held minutes ago.
"Good." She nods. Her heart is too big for this world.
"Now when do you get off work?" She asks innocently twirling one of her braids with her finger, "I think Seven, why? What do you have planned for tonight?" I asked cautiously. Last time she asked me this I got alcohol poisoning from a 'little' kegger as she put it. Those few days I've spent in the hospital wasn't exactly my idea of a good time.
"Don't worry it's nothing too crazy. We're going surfing tonight and I wanted you to come. I know you cant resist a good wave or two. Plus you can show us some of those tricks we can never get down."
My eyes caught movement through the glass doors again. Leaning against Kie's vehicle was none other than JJ himself. My breathe caught in my throat at seeing him for the first time since last night. He was wearing John's clothes telling me he hasn't gone home yet. His blonde hair was no longer matted in sweat and was now looking perfect again.
His eye looked swollen and I cursed that boy for not fetching something from the ice box. His sewn eyebrow was starting to purple. Despite his face, I found the guy so unbelievably attractive.
Kiara noticed my glance was lingering a little too long past her shoulder and trailed my gaze.
Shit!
She's about to discover that her best friend is the only one in a mile radius and blow the entire thing out of the water.
"Was that sew up job yours?"
"No, I haven't seen JJ since last week." I lied and instantly regretted it, Kiara knew I say him two days ago in my backyard. Circling the fire, roasting marshmallows and having a few light drinks.
A knowing glint sparkled in her eyes and she nodded her head. "Right." She finally says dragging the word on for decades. I shook my head in agreement but feeling guilty that I knew she knew I was lying through my damn teeth.
I had no clue why I was trying to keep the patch up job I did on JJ's face under wraps. I've done it a million times and none of them thought it was scandalous before, I've never shoved it under a rock before either. I didn't plan on hiding it, but I wanted to keep that vulnerable moment to myself. I'm not confident on who was aware of his fathers abuse and I wasn't going to crumble the sliver of trust he has with me.
"So whose all going to be there?" I asked reminding myself to wash my sins away later.
"The usually, John B, Pope, Sarah, me and...Jayj." She left Jay's name for last and I fucking knew it was trap, but I still looked past her and at the golden boy again. This will be at the top of the stupidest shit I've done and it's a long list. It didn't take a rocket scientist to understand he was avoiding eye contact with me. Understandable and yet it still pinched.
'I'll be ready by 7:30." I said not really having the energy for it, but I needed to get rid of her before she had the chance to question my odd behavior towards him.
Kie was quiet for a minute reading into my soul. "Okay. Not a minute later." Kiara finally declares starting to walk backwards, towards the automatic doors. The knowing glint that I was holding something back was still evident in her eyes.
I smile in agreement trying desperately to lock down the wariness that wanted to combust.
"I'll see you tonight, Surf Queen."
----
I'm completely wiped as I pull my green 1995 jeep Cherokee right beside the Twinkie. Cutting the engine I guided the stick shift into first gear and yanked the hand brake all the way up securing its parking spot.
Jumping out I winched as my feet hit the ground and the aching in my bones rattled up. The sight of my brother finally home had me forgetting all about the rage I was holding for him. He was surrounded by his friends, sharing the cheapest case of liquor Maybank could get his hands on and having the best time. My heart glowed at his found family. I
I stayed there awhile watching them before I announced my arrival. I admired the way they all could get lost in one another's company and not hear the loud engine of my jeep approaching.
I'm so drained from my shift, But I already promised Kie I'd tag along. I wasn't prepared to struck a crack into another friendship. The more time I spent with Kie the more I seen her as a real friend. And as much as I hated it, it was time to slip that mask on again.
"Holy shit Is that my twin brother as I live and breathe." I spoke loudly capturing everyone's attention. Almost all of them cheered for my appearance and it nearly felt like I was one of them.
If I wasn't the glorious JB's twin sister I wouldn't try so hard to distance myself. I'm my own person and I wanted to make it clear I was separate from my brother. I'm nothing like him or our father dropping everything to search for long forgotten treasure. It's extremely hard being a twin but it was absolutely brutal being a Routledge twin. Especially for one who didn't have her own circle of friend and trying to hijack one of his. Maybe I needed an animal companion or a boyfriend, probably both.
"Jade! I was wondering when you'd get your little butt down here." Pope hollers over with a giant welcoming grin. "I missed you too, Pope." I chuckled at his enthusiasm and returned a warm smile that didn't take up too much energy.
Pope is definitely someone you could hangout with after a long day of work and talk about the mysteries of the universe. He was loyal like the rest of them were and is always the one to knock sense into anyone who needed it.
Forcing my body onto the porch I engulfed John into a bone crushing embrace. He returned it and I clung on tighter to him. Being in his grasp felt like a warm bed and a home cooked meal. Coos and awes could be heard from the Pogues behind us murmuring something about sibling love.
"Please don't ever leave me in this house alone ever again. If you do I will sink a knife in all four tires on the Twinkie." I croaked into his chest.
Letting go me he grabbed each of my shoulders, "Did something happen last night?" He bursts out frantically, concern etched into his facial features.
on instinct my eyes drifted from his and focused on the blonde boy. It was only for a split second but JB caught it and looked back. I could skin myself alive if that were ever possible. Jay still refused to look at me and shrugged at what I assumed is an accusatory glare. His posture was lose as if he wasn't sporting my stitches on his eyebrow.
"I left the front door open." I started distracting him from his locked gaze, "A deer must've wandered in. It spooked me pretty bad." I said the first tale that floated into my brain.
"were you harmed?" John follows even the doubt swam in his eyes.
"No I-I managed to scare it out of the house." I stuttered,
"Well that explains why my floorboard was popped and the bat left in the hallway." JB notes humorously and that's when it dawned on me that I forgot about the damned bat.
How could I forgot? Oh right! There was a certain broken blonde boy crying in my arms last night.
"Yeah." I say guilty and nod my head weakly.
"I'm just glad you're okay." He says, petting my hair comfortably and I fought the urge to ask him why he cared, he's never here and I needed him in the long moments I thought someone broke in. But this wasn't the time to bring up how he's been a shitty brother lately. I wanted to savour this memory with him where he finally bothered care about me and I believed him.
"Let me get this straight." Pope says breaking the heartfelt aura. "Last night. You almost bashed a deer's brains in?" He finishes with a serious tone. It was so absurd that I struggled to keep a composed face.
"That's such a Routledge thing to do." Sarah comments, It almost caused me to shut down and call it day. I never confided in her about the twin conversation so I shouldn't be reacting to her comment the way I was.
"It's a very Jade thing to do in a dire situation." Kiara makes an effort to over shine her comment. She understood just how much I battled to accept that me and John were so much a like in too many ways to deny.
I gave her a grateful smile, thankful for her words. She tipped her head in acknowledgment "I'll be out in ten. I still need to grab my board from the shed." I mumbled heading into the house.
"Of course, take your time." Kiara replies gently,
"Me and JJ, are going to pack your board onto the Jeep for you." JB calls before I hear him barrel off the steps and almost trip and fumble to the ground. John is a good brother don't get me wrong but I missed him being around all the time.
I understood his determination to pick up dad's treasure map where he left off, it has been weeks since his disappearance. I miss the old guy like I lost every too, but I didn't ignore our situation to chase after a ghost ship. I'm the only one keeping us above water and I needed him to realize how much I craved for him to be my brother again. He's the only family I have left.
------------
Three vehicles and six boards later we arrived at the beach. Kiara and JJ in her SUV, me and Pope in my Jeep, the Greenie, and lastly Sarah and John in the Twinkie.
Strangely enough the beach was so scare we could all park together near the sand. It's hitting the golden hour an absolute stunning even to catch a few wave, so gorgeous that it wounded my soul to see it deserted
I knew pope was giving me an odd look as the others started uphauling their boards while I stayed in my seat. I admired the view I was able to experience in this point in time, absolutely breath taking. Ever since the day I rode my very first wave with the help of a certain golden retriever boy. I could hear the ocean wailing for me like a lost soulmate in the wind.
It has been a long time my first love.
"There everyone goes, leaving us behind..." Pope trails longingly,
I roll my eyes and shake my head at his dramatics. "All of you are always go go go, or too wrapped up in each other to just stop, and really enjoy the scenery around you that this earth has given us."
Being here with them gave me a knew found sense of home, like I wasn't just here living this life alone. I think it's time I let these pogues wiggle their way into being there for me. It'll take some time for me to allow them and get more comfortable with being in their presence more. But I'm willing to try for myself, for John, for the Pogues.
Pope is quiet weighing in my spoken thoughts, "You're right I really need to appreciate it a lot more, but right now isn't the time. It seems we're holding everyone up."
I whipped my head fast enough for it to strain and begin to throb in pain. A few feet away I spotted Kie with her board tucked under her one arm and resting against her hip. An expecting look displayed onto her soft features, behind her Sarah and John were beckoning me forward.
JJ was already at the shore line, the high tides crashing into his ankles. He stuck his gaze to the front of the Greenie. Wearing John's bright red shirt that had a white lobster on the chest confirming my suspicion of further injury. Jay was comfortable with his muscular build and it was unusual to find him sporting a shirt while surfing. He must be hiding from the others as well knowing they'd raise havoc at the new found information.
was I bad person for wanting him to really see me? look at me and acknowledge the night we shared? I knew the pain he faced and the time he needed to numb his trauma over. Maybe when he looked at me he was reliving it all again in a rush of conflicted emotion.
One look was all I craved. Just a tiny glance into those storming blue eyes.
"Are you ready?" Pope asks, gentle hopefulness danced in his dark brown eyes. It dawned on me then like a bucket of ice. They had thought I was going to leave like I've done a few times before. This time was different because I truly wanted to be here with them.
"Yeah, I'm ready, Pope." I say grateful for his patience,
Unclasping our boards, Pope jogged alongside me catching up with the rest of them. Soon he fell into step with John B, both of them rush towards their blonde counter part. Kiara and Sarah flanked me and it almost felt like they knew everything that happened last night. Waiting for me to spill but there was not a single thing to share. Nothing happened and I seemed to be reading into it too much.
"Are you okay? You seemed to be hesitating?" Kie asks as we reached the ocean kneeling onto our boards and paddling out. Entering the water gave me this soft security and had woken my sleeping muscles.
"Yeah." I said contently, "I was admiring how beautiful the ocean appeared in the golden hour."
"I love how you can just get lost in the nature around you. Finding the beauty in smallest of things," Sarah notes,
I shrug, " I was taught to appreciate what I was given." It wasn't a jab at their pedigree. It was more of we're different and that's not a terrible thing. They both hum understanding my words weren't malicious.
I felt complete in this moment, smiling at the both of them I could feel my mask breaking into pieces letting my true thoughts be known. It was a radiating feeling.
Looking behind me, the shore in the distance. I could sense we were at the perfect location to catch a few good waves. The others did too and halted their paddling and sat up onto their boards.
All six us stared at the wall of waves building and crashing just a few yards away. Rocking our boards once it rode out and reached past us.
"I love your bikini." Kie says, I look down at the old fading teal bikini. I got it at a thrift store two years ago and a few sizes too small. "You say that every time and you know damn well this is the only one I got." I say playfully and Kiara smiles giving me a wink.
Sarah shrugs, "Kie's right its so cute, but we should all go shopping for new ones. Like a girls day, god know we need it." She says poking her glance past us and we follow her gaze to see the boys barking at each other in deep tones and hyping themselves up.
We burst out laughing at how ridiculous they were being. Snapping their heads towards our laughter they glare teasingly, "What?!" They shout in unison, "What are you guys doing?" Kiara askes, "It looks very intimate." Sarah calls after.
It warmed my heart to JJ enjoying himself considering what he's been through in the last twenty-four hours. It nicked to know he could never be like that with me ever again.
"Our masculine chant." JB states,
"We need to level out the feminine vibe." Jay retorts aiming his words at me. I was stunned to say the least. It bent my heart and I swore that was the last time I ever helped him. it must've been written on my face because John reaches over and smacks him upside the head.
I coughed to over my laugh, but I couldn't help but feel like a fucking out cast again. Maybe letting them in wasn't the best idea.
"I didn't know your masculinity was so fragile, Jay." I spat,
"It's not!" He shot back desperately
"I'm catching the first wave." I blankly said, paddling for the wave. Behind me I could hear John giving JJ shit for treating me like some Kook whose fucking with his feelings.
My body took control catching the wave like I've done many times before. Everything with JJ and John forgotten like none of it happened and I was completely content with that. The adrenaline raced into my blood as I rode the wave with such perfect ease.
After padding back to my spot beside Kiara and Sarah, JJ went next. It was easy to detect that our surfing styles were similar. I would've loved that I replicated his style to the tee a year ago, but now it made me sick to my stomach.
"I've never noticed how you and JJ have the same style." Sarah comments and Kiara's attention snapped to me, I shrugged "JJ Taught me how to surf."
Sarah gave an amused look, "Really? I would've thought John B did." Kie laughs and I shook my head, "Nope." I popped the 'p' "The jackass was too busy laughing at me while I drowned."
"I was not!" John B yelled over catching our conversation,
"Keep telling yourself that buddy." Kie calls returning her attention back to our triangle. Pope snickers and John B squints his eyes at him," I would've taught her but Jayj was the better teacher."
"beside if John did teach me, I wouldn't be able to land a few of my tricks." I shrug,
"What happened between the two of you?' Sarah asks the one question I was dreading, But her eyes were hopeful and I truly wanted to be close friends with her.
"I'm wondering the same thing. We use to be good friends when we were younger, then one day he pulled away. Stopped hanging out with me and never shared anything with me. It was very cold turkey and so fucking strange."
"I'm sorry, that must've been confusing." She replies and I brush it off.
"Nothing I can do now." I say flatly. Noticing Kiara has been quiet I trailed my glace to her, a weak smile spread across her face and I could've sworn I saw guilt swirling in her brown eyes. She must know something that I didn't and I had the urge to dig deeper.
We stayed there for two more hours, surfing and showing off our technique. The sun was ready to disappear over the horizon and god was it gorgeous but it was time to bring it in.
Dragging our bodies near the shore I walked between the girls again. after a successful day session on the waves I felt emotionally and mentally full and healthy. It was as if the ocean had the ability to revive me.
"Are both of you still down to go bikini shopping?" Sarah askes,
"Yeah absolutely, Jade what about you?" Kie replies looking at me expectantly.
"Operation feminine energy is a go!" I shout to the rising moon. Both of them celebrate like they won a marathon, I join them and somehow feel like I'm apart of something outside of being a Routledge twin.
Ahead of us the boys give us weird looks and I couldn't careless, but the lingering glance from JJ had me conflicted. In his storm blue eyes I saw a flicker of regret and I found it hard to breathe.
I held a façade for Kiara and Sarah, but I felt utterly lost when it came to that boy. Carrying our boards back to the vehicles I tried to focus on our new found girl squad.
--
Pat two took so long because I changed quite a bit from the original piece and added over 1k words. I definitely restrained myself from writing more JJ it's just not time for them yet.
Part two took so long because I wanted to write more JJ, but it's not for it yet.
This is very slow burn and I truly wanted to write about what living on the cut was really like.
Thank you so much for reading It means the worlds you decided to read something I wrote. I love you.

A thought about 'Minority Groups'
As I said in previous Essays- while (Indigenous) Black Americans continue to get lip service & empty tributes, i'm looking at WHO is getting WHAT. There has been a lot of activity under The Biden Administration, & I found myself looking at these events from an abstract perspective. 'Jim Crow' Joe said that he appreciated Black America 'having His back' throughout the years, & he would have Ours. Since that statement, Native Americans, Asian Americans, Latinx (Citizens & Illegals), LGBTQ..., have All received legislation & funding. On top of the $113 Billion spent in Ukraine over the last Year, Israel continues to receive Billions annually from The U.S. Now provisions have been made for 100,000 Afghani & 100,000 Ukrainian refugees to relocate to America.
We Black Americans/ ADOS/ FBA/ Freemen/ Indigenous Americans can be a well intentioned, but socially naive group. The efforts of White Supremacists w/i Local, State, & Federal Government Agencies to systemically oppress Our Community has created a 'Collective Consciousness' that empathizes (abstractly) w/ the oppression of other Ethnicities. We can identify w/ the hardship of Others, & when possible, We do what We can to combat that hardship. We fought against the oppression of American Slave Codes, Black Codes, & Jim Crow Laws; simultaneously, We fought for The Rights of Irish, Chinese, Mexican, Jewish, Italian, Haitian, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Panamanian, Filipino, & Japanese immigrants that faced a measure of the oppression We experienced here.
Looking at this 'Collective Consciousness' historically, a Pattern can be seen over the centuries. Every Immigrant Group in America has gone through a 'Hazing Period', where they are the target of Social Bias & Prejudice. During this 'Social Phase', newcomers tend to identify w/ the Black Americans that they are in contact w/. We encircle these people w/i Our Community, & take the lead in protesting injustices against them. In the past, 'Brownfolk' tended to identify w/ Us. We shared Culture & Traditions; in some instances, we intermarried. In this Era, things have changed. If Black Immigrants & 'Brownfolk' start off in Black Communities, they don't always stay.
By the 2nd Generation, their children either identify w/ The Black Experience in America, or they make every effort to move away from it. Ethnic Enclaves have literally 'popped up' outside of Black Communities over the last 30Yrs, creating true Buffer Zones between Black & White Communities. Black America was oblivious to any possible agenda amongst Minority Groups- We also identified as Minorities, & assumed We were all in the same boat. Black Power isn't a selfish endeavor- Our Right of Autonomy grants other Minorities the same Right. American History substantiates this truth. To be honest, We were naively ignorant about the 'Culture' of these Minority Groups in their Native Land. We assumed they shared a similar experience of White Supremacy.
We knew about the Racism in Europe, but were unaware of the Tribalism that existed in Afrika & The Caribbean; or the Colorism that exists in Arabia, Asia, & Latin America. Many of the minorities that We had 'First Contact' w/, were friendly. As a Marginalized People, they had something in common w/ Us. We collaborated in business & in Social Action. We shared Our Community, & worked together to improve Our collective Quality of Life. We thought that We were united in the fight against White Supremacy. Then a funny thing happened- one by one, these 'Marginalized Groups' were accepted into Society, & given Rights & Privileges that We were (still) denied.
Over the Centuries, We watched- as Irish, Jewish & Italian neighbors elevated their status. The more they achieved, the more distance they placed between Us. Collectively, each group became increasingly intolerant of Blackfolk. They began to speak the Anti- Black rhetoric of Mainstream America. Our old neighbors appeared to 'pledge allegiance' to the same people that discriminated against them. Black Americans were now victims of mob violence, stemming from (perceived) competition that Irish & Italians had w/ Black Men for Jobs. The Irish in particular, were brutal in their efforts to push Black Men out of specific Trades & Sports. The only reminder of Black involvement in Horse Racing, are 'Lawn Jockeys', that many Black People see as racist. 150Yrs- 200Yrs ago, Black Jockeys dominated Horse Racing.
As disappointed as We were w/ the actions of the Irish, Italians, & Eastern Europeans, the current Anti- Black American sentiment held by today's 'Minority Groups' (POC), truly stings! We can't say that We didn't see it coming though. Many (Indigenous) Black Americans have an experience of being 'in the company' of a given Minority Group. When they are in mixed company, the conversation is civil; but when they outnumber Us, We begin to hear the stereotypes about Us. The larger the advantage, the more prejudiced the language becomes. While they may repeat White Supremacist talking points, they lack the power to truly be 'Racist'. That being said, quite a few individuals have ridden this rhetoric into Mainstream notoriety; the names represent a literal Who's Who in Pop Culture & Politics.
Collectively, these Minority Groups seem comfortable w/ their place in AmeriKKKa's Caste System, as long as they are 'positioned' above Black America... Hispanic & Asian women are currently testing the racial waters, by way of recent attempts to gauge their degree of White Privilege. Their actions legitimize the notion that White Privilege is defined by Anti- Black Racism & Oppression. The actions of these 'Karens of Color', are no different from the garden variety Karen. All of these women are trying to exercise their 'Right', but Women Of Color are also establishing their position in the Social Caste. I personally don't understand the need to gauge one's 'Power' on the ability to harass or harm what is believed to be a Soft Target. I thought that White Supremacy is a philosophy premised on strength & 'Might makes Right'- Where is the challenge?
Joe Biden's Policy actions have made clear his intention to extend White Privilege to Asians & Hispanics. Like (White) LGBTQ... individuals, & European Jews, Asians enjoy meaningful Hate Crime Legislation. Meanwhile, Black America still fights for this legislation, as the #1 Victim of Hate Crimes in America- according to the latest FBI Crime Stats. For Latinx, Biden is fast tracking Citizenship for illegal immigrants in Sanctuary Cities. Many Cities are suggesting Drivers Licenses for illegal immigrants, while California is talking about hiring non- Citizens for the LAPD & State Police. In short, 'America' has become a Multicultural & Multilingual Nation. All of this is very curious. Just a generation ago, Local, State, & Federal Officials were adamant that America is a 'Judeo- Christian' Nation that speaks 'English'. Efforts to make Spanish an Official 2nd Language were quickly shot down. 100Yrs ago, America was a 'White Man's Country!'.
Black Americans were looking for a Seat at The Table, but didn't have a problem sharing w/ Our fellow 'Minorities'. Affirmative Action was designed to level the playing field between Blackfolk & Whitefolk. It was supposed to make up for The New Deal & G.I. Bills that excluded Black Families. Despite this, We didn't complain when these resources were diverted (via Diversity Initiatives) away from Us, & given to people who NEVER had to experience what We went through. We were as compliant as Cows being bled by Vampire Bats, until We renewed the Reparations Conversation. Suddenly, We were xenophobes. The loudest voices have come from 2nd & 3rd generation Americans, who (collectively) enjoy a better Quality Of Life than the average Black American. The fact that the children of immigrants from the 1980s are now attacking Black America w/ White Supremacist talking points, is simply mindboggling!
An Ethnic Group that appears to do A LOT of 'Racial double dipping', are Hindi/ Pakistani/ Bangladeshi Americans. They are conveniently 'Black' when there is opportunity, but otherwise, they not only identify as 'White'; they subscribe to a visceral Anti- Black sentiment that needs to be addressed. This is important, because Joe Biden is putting Kamala Harris at the forefront of his Re-election Campaign. America is still calling Kamala the 1st 'Afrikan American VP', but both of her parents are Brahmin. Kamala's 'Black Experience' ends at Howard University & Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She is otherwise an Elitist, who has a decades long resume of undermining Black Californians (Black Women in particular), & looking out for her own best interests.
Former Governor of South Carolina & U.N. Ambassador, Nikki Haley (Nimarata Nikki Randhwara- Haley), is the flip side of Kamala Harris. Both Women are Brahmin, but while Kamala is 'Asian' w/ a cultural leaning towards Black America; Nikki is 'Brown', but has consistently shown a cultural leaning towards White Privilege. Both Women highlight a simple truth- that 'Black' Issues aren't 'Brown' Issues. People Of Color (POC/ BIPOC) tend to be victims of Discrimination, more than Racism. This is evidenced by their Collective Autonomy throughout America. They have a Right of Expression that Indigenous Black Americans never truly had; not even during Reconstruction. It may be due to their sovereign status, but it's clear that they DON'T share Our plight.
Vivek Ramaswamy is yet another type. He is a 2nd Generation child of [Elitist] Asian Immigrants, but he tries to weave an Ellis Island narrative out of his experience. Like Kamala Harris & Nikki Halely, both of Ramaswamy's parents were Post Graduates w/ more education than the average [White] American Family. He gives the impression that they were Blue Collar Workers living the American Dream for their children. Ramaswamy casually speaks about his 'rough' Public School experience in Cincinnati, before going to a Private (Jesuit) School- that 'didn't conflict w/ his Hindu values'. This experience supposedly positioned him for College, Post Grad work, & starting his 1st Biotech Company... He implies that EVERYONE gets this opportunity in America.
Kamala Harris' Mother had the support of the Black Community in Oakland & Berkeley. Nikki Haley's Father had the support of (HBCU) Voorhees College, where he worked for nearly 30Yrs. Despite that support for their Parents, Nikki Haley & Kamala Harris have done NOTHING meaningful or specifically for Black Americans. In fact, both have supported measures that were detrimental to their Black Constituents; i'm reminded of The Tale of 'The Tortoise & The Scorpion'... Vivek Ramaswamy takes it up another notch. His 'Anti- Woke' Campaign, is a not too subtle Anti- Black dog whistle. Ramaswamy has the audacity to use his Experience (as a 2nd Generation Brahmin- American) to minimize, if he can't outright disclaim The Black American Experience altogether.
Vivek Ramaswamy's family has been in America for roughly 40Yrs. That means that they arrived sometime in the 1980s, nearly 20Yrs after the End of the Jim Crow Era; but Vivek feels that he can speak about the History of Anti- Black Racism in America. Ramaswamy, along w/ Harris & Haley represent the 'People Of Color' Prospects for POTUS. The similarity of their Agendas speaks volumes. All of them benefited from opportunities meant for Blackfolk, but they lecture Us about 'bootstrapping'. Add in Joe Biden's thoughts about Latinx being 'the largest Minority Group in America'(???), along w/ weird Culture Appropriation rhetoric coming from Eva Longoria, then John Leguizamo, & it looks like a conspiracy.
It's crystal clear that collectively speaking, Indigenous Black America has NO FRIENDS. We should act accordingly... These Minority Groups forget that Our 'Culture' is fighting White Supremacy, not bowing to it. We're not Here for a Come Up, or a Hand Out- We're indigenous to This Land. We were Here before the first Colonizer, & We'll be Here long after the Last.

UN refugee chief says 114 million have fled homes because nations fail to tackle causes of conflict (AP) The number of people fleeing their homes because of war, violence and persecution has reached 114 million and is climbing because nations have failed to tackle the causes and combatants are refusing to comply with international law, the U.N. refugee chief said Thursday. In a hard-hitting speech, Filippo Grandi criticized the U.N. Security Council, which is charged with maintaining international peace and security, for failing to use its voice to try to resolve conflicts from Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan to Congo, Myanmar and many other places. He also accused unnamed countries of making “short-sighted foreign policy decisions, often founded on double standards, with lip service paid to compliance with the law, but little muscle flexed from the council to actually uphold it and—with it—peace and security.” Grandi said non-compliance with international humanitarian law means that “parties to conflicts—increasingly everywhere, almost all of them—have stopped respecting the laws of war,” though some pretend to do so.
After Trump’s Conviction, a Wary World Waits for the Fallout (NYT) The world does not vote in American presidential elections. Nor do its jurors play a part in the American judicial system. Nevertheless, the conviction of Donald J. Trump on all 34 felony counts in a hush-money trial in a New York court on Thursday has again made clear how consequential what happens in the United States is for the rest of the planet. Many America-watchers are grappling with the same questions posed by people in the United States: Can Mr. Trump still run for president? (Yes.) And if so, will the guilty verdicts cut into the support from his political base? (Unclear.) Foreign observers also began wondering if Mr. Trump, already a volatile force, would become even less likely to stay within the guardrails of normal politics and diplomacy if he won the presidency again in November.
Mexican candidate assassinations hit grim record ahead of Sunday’s election (Reuters) Mexico’s election is now the bloodiest in its modern history after a candidate running for local office in central Puebla state was murdered on Friday at a political rally, taking the number of assassinated candidates to 37 ahead of Sunday’s vote. Jorge Huerta Cabrera, a candidate who was running for a council seat in the town of Izucar de Matamoros, was gunned down in the attack, according to the state prosecutor’s office. The killing takes the number of assassinated candidates in the 2024 election season to 37, one more than during the 2021 midterm election.
Panama prepares to evacuate first island in face of rising sea levels (AP) On a tiny island off Panama’s Caribbean coast, about 300 families are packing their belongings in preparation for a dramatic change. Generations of Gunas who have grown up on Gardi Sugdub in a life dedicated to the sea and tourism will trade that next week for the mainland’s solid ground. The Gunas of Gardi Sugdub are the first of 63 communities along Panama’s Caribbean and Pacific coasts that government officials and scientists expect to be forced to relocate by rising sea levels in the coming decades. Gardi Sugdub is only about 400 yards (366 meters) long and 150 yards (137 meters) wide. Every year, especially when the strong winds whip up the sea in November and December, water fills the streets and enters the homes. The Gunas have tried to reinforce the island’s edge with rocks, pilings and coral, but seawater keeps coming. Residents will move to the new site on the mainland that the government developed at a cost of $12 million. The concrete houses sit on a grid of paved streets carved out of the lush tropical jungle just over a mile from the port, where an eight-minute boat ride carries them to Gardi Sugdub.
Cuba laments collapse of iconic sugar industry (BBC) Cutting cane is all Miguel Guzmán has ever known. He comes from a family of farm hands and started the tough, thankless work as a teenager. For hundreds of years, sugar was the mainstay of the Cuban economy. It was not just the island’s main export but also the cornerstone of another national industry, rum. Older Cubans remember when the island was essentially built on the backs of families like Mr Guzmán’s. Today, though, he readily admits he has never seen the sugar industry as broken and depressed as it is now—not even when the Soviet Union’s lucrative sugar quotas dried up after the Cold War. Spiralling inflation, shortages of basic goods and the decades-long US economic embargo have made for a dire economic outlook across the board in Cuba. But things are particularly bleak in the sugar trade. Last season, Cuba’s production fell to just 350,000 tonnes of raw sugar, an all-time low for the country, and well below the 1.3 million tonnes recorded in 2019. “It’s a disaster. Today the sugar industry in Cuba almost doesn’t exist,” says Juan Triana of the Centre for Studies of the Cuban Economy in Havana. “We’re producing the same quantity of sugar Cuba produced in the middle of the 19th Century.”
NATO ministers meet in Prague as allies ease restrictions on Ukraine’s use of their weapons (AP) NATO foreign ministers were meeting in the Czech capital Friday to prepare for this summer’s leaders’ summit as the alliance boosts support for Ukraine and countries one-by-one remove restrictions on how Kyiv can use western-supplied weaponry to combat Russia’s invasion. A day after U.S. President Joe Biden gave Ukraine the go-ahead to use American munitions to strike inside Russia for the limited purpose of defending Kharkiv, numerous ministers, including those from the Netherlands, Finland, Poland and Germany, expressed approval of the decision, saying that Ukraine has the absolute right to defend itself from attacks originating on Russian soil.
The Kremlin is all-in on war in Ukraine (CSM) Amid its grinding war of attrition and economic mobilization against Ukraine, Russia is changing fast. As the Defense Ministry spends ever-increasing amounts of money to procure the equipment it needs and to recruit more soldiers, the country’s business environment and economic geography are being reshaped. And the military-industrial complex, which was vastly downsized in post-Soviet years, is reviving quickly. Confounding observers in many ways, Russia’s war economy, despite Western sanctions, is now back at a level that outproduces the entire West in some key military goods. And the Kremlin appears to be committed to a war economy approach for the long haul, as suggested by the recent reshuffling of Defense Ministry leadership. Whether such an economic policy is viable is in debate. Optimists say the rapid economic development is economically positive on balance, or at least that Russia can sustain high levels of military spending for the foreseeable future. Pessimists argue that the Kremlin is building a permanent war economy, much like the one that strangled the Soviet Union, and that hopes of building a prosperous consumer economy are fast vanishing. But for the moment, Russian President Vladimir Putin appears all in.
Voting begins in the last round of India’s election (AP) A six-week-long national election in India that is a referendum on Hindu nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decade in power neared its end Saturday as the last phase of voting began. The election is considered one of the most consequential in India’s history. If Modi wins, he’ll be only the second Indian leader to retain power for a third term after Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first prime minister. The seventh round of polls covers 57 constituencies across seven states and one union territory. It will complete a national election to fill all 543 seats in the powerful lower house of parliament. Nearly 970 million voters—more than 10% of the world’s population—were eligible to elect a new parliament for five years. More than 8,300 candidates ran for the office. Most polls show Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party leading over the broad opposition alliance that’s challenging them, led by the Congress party. The votes will be counted Tuesday, with results expected by the end of the day.
Israeli views of the Israel-Hamas war (Pew Research Center) Some 39% of Israelis say Israel’s military response against Hamas in Gaza has been about right, while 34% say it has not gone far enough and 19% think it has gone too far, according to a survey conducted March 3-April 4. But Israelis see the war in vastly different ways depending on their political ideology, religion and other factors, including stark divides between Jews and Arabs. According to the survey, conducted in March and early April, roughly two-thirds of Israelis are also confident that Israel will either probably (27%) or definitely (40%) achieve its goals in the war against Hamas.
Israel confirms its forces are in central Rafah in expanding offensive in the southern Gaza city (AP) The Israeli military confirmed Friday that its forces are operating in central parts of Rafah in its expanding offensive in the southern Gaza city. Israel launched its ground assault into the city on May 6, triggering an exodus of around 1 million Palestinians out of the city and throwing U.N. humanitarian operations based in the area into turmoil. Still, it has yet to amount to a “major operation” in the eyes of U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration, according to the State Department. Up to around 300,000 people are believed to remain in the Rafah area, with an unknown number still in the city itself. Most have flocked to rural areas on the Mediterranean coastline west of the city, said Shaina Low, a spokesperson for the Norwegian Refugee Council, a humanitarian group that operates in the area. That area has seen deadly Israeli strikes the past week. Palestinians who fled the city have scattered around southern and central Gaza, most of them living in squalid tent camps.
Israel maintains a shadowy hospital in the desert for Gaza detainees. Critics allege mistreatment (AP) Patients lying shackled and blindfolded on more than a dozen beds inside a white tent in the desert. Surgeries performed without adequate painkillers. Doctors who remain anonymous. These are some of the conditions at Israel’s only hospital dedicated to treating Palestinians detained by the military in the Gaza Strip, three people who have worked there told The Associated Press, confirming similar accounts from human rights groups. While Israel says it detains only suspected militants, many patients have turned out to be non-combatants taken during raids, held without trial and eventually returned to war-torn Gaza. Eight months into the Israel-Hamas war, accusations of inhumane treatment at the Sde Teiman military field hospital are on the rise, and the Israeli government is under growing pressure to shut it down. Rights groups and other critics say what began as a temporary place to hold and treat militants after Oct. 7 has morphed into a harsh detention center with too little accountability.
Google scales back AI search answers after it told users to eat glue (Washington Post) Google said it was scaling down the use of AI-generated answers in some search results, after the tech made high-profile errors including telling users to put glue on their pizza and saying Barack Obama was Muslim. The change is the latest example of Google launching an AI product with fanfare and then rolling it back after it goes awry. The tech industry is in the throes of an AI revolution, with start-ups and Big Tech giants alike trying to find new ways to put the tech into their products and make money from it. Many of the tools have been launched before they’re ready for prime time, as companies jostle to be the first to market their products and cast themselves as cutting-edge. One answer, which Google has since fixed, told people to drink plenty of urine to help pass a kidney stone. Another said John F. Kennedy graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in six different years, three of which were after his death.

Thanks to this art, Kiki's Delivery Service Thorki is the next thing my scattered brain wants to focus on. Thor is born a rare exception to the witches are girls rule, so his mom goes ahead and trains him as one. She takes in Loki who was cast out of his witch family for being trans and a shape shifter. So when it's time for both to go on their young witch journey as teens, Loki travels as Thor's cat, and they head off to find a new place to explore.
The folks in the city they land in are pretty nervous when a huge teen boy shows up on an axe declaring he's the new witch in town, but strange emergencies keep arising that Thor can help with, and it endears him to the locals. Just like Kiki does unusual witch duties, Thor ends up as a sort of local hero/handy strongman who pulls people from sinking boats and also can relocate a car for you by chaining it to his flying axe for a fee.
Loki meanwhile is brewing up potions and skin care products in their lodgings next to the bakery to bring in money...when he's not prowling the town as a cat causing mayhem and mischief that Thor then cleans up.
At night Lokitty hops onto their bed after Thor climbs in, then transforms in his human form and they settle their daily disputes 😗😗🍆🍑 and then snuggle up to sleep.

FFXIV Write 2022, day 28: vainglory
Vesper Bay is as lovely as G’raha had expected.
There’s much that he’s read about the place in times accumulated over the years; there’s much that he’d heard from Cid, and then the Scions themselves, about what this place had meant to those who once considered it home.
An imposing statue of the town’s chief patron — a single tavern a couple streets away from the water — a dozen tiny shops and offices and homes lining the streets — a single, nondescript office by the water that extends so deeply underground that the sand and the dust will not touch them there.
“You remained here by yourself, all those months?” asks G’raha, as they descend the steps past the front desk.
“Thou presumest that I remained isolated here against my will,” Urianger replies. “I asked to remain here while the others relocated to the new headquarters in Mor Dhona. ‘Twas my choice alone, and one that went uncontested.”
It speaks to pattern that would repeat in his insistence to remain in Il Mheg. The difference here is that it had been a younger Urianger who’d made that choice — one ignorant of the tragedies to come.
—for when he made the choice to remain here, in the Waking Sands, he’d done so with Minfilia’s blessing. It had been a different Minfilia than the one the First knew — a person more so than a symbol of hope, dear to many but not all, and perhaps not wholly aware of the role she had yet to play in this tapestry of intertwined fates.
(A different warrior, fresh-faced, and not quite the Warrior of Light or Darkness, and unmarred by the many, many tragedies to come — a different Y’shtola, who had yet to be pushed to the sorts of extremes that would rob her of her senses — a different Alphinaud and Alisaie, fresh off the boat from Sharlayan and so very convinced that they could make a difference in this foreign land — a different Thancred, far too entrenched in the role the others had expected him to play that no one, least of all himself, had noticed when it had made him a target for Ascian interference.)
“Do you miss it at all, Urianger?” asks G’raha, pressing one hand against the cool stone wall of the Solar. “Those earliest days, when all the Scions had been together, I mean.”
Urianger hums, pacing behind the desk. “’Twas a different time altogether,” he muses. “To compare it to our current practices would be to draw an equivalency that may not exist to begin with. The Scions’ current processes have been defined by the near annihilation of our previous order.” His eyes narrow, as he averts his gaze downward. “By the untimely departure of friends and comrades we once held dear.”
What must it have been like, to meet in this room? To surround Minfilia at that table, to be in alignment towards a common purpose — an efficient machine, strengthened by the strong ties independently cultivated in each city-state by individual Scions. How much of Y’shtola’s work with the Night’s Blessed in Rak’tika had been informed by her work in Limsa Lominsa? How much of Thancred’s easy and consistent rejection of Eulmoran norms had been informed by his work in Ul’dah?
And what part did the Warrior of Light have to play in all of this, beyond what had been committed to the written record?
(Would G’raha have had a place in any of this?)
As if reading his mind, Urianger gives him a gentle smile. “I have no doubts, however,” he says, “that hadst thou come to us then, we would have welcomed thee with open arms.”
G’raha chuckles. “Your patience with me would have worn thin soon enough,” he says. “I was quite the vainglorious fool, back then.”
“Perhaps,” says Urianger, “yet thine presence would have been valued and respected, as would that of all others who’d pledged their lives in service to the same ideals.”
Were it anyone else saying the same, then it would be little more than pretty words — but because it’s Urianger, a certain warmth, comforting and secure, settles in G’raha’s gut.
“But to answer thine query,” Urianger continues, “yes, I do miss it sometimes. When I close my eyes and try to paint a picture of the comforts of home, of being surrounded by friends… ‘tis conversations in the Ocular of the Crystarium, as well as days spent huddled in this very building that appear with equal measure.”
“Regardless of the location, surrounded by friends both old and new…” says G’raha. He pictures Rammbroes’ camp just outside the Crystal Tower, in Mor Dhona — the Isle of Val, surrounded by fellow scholars — idle days in the Crystarium, Lyna at his heels throughout various stages of her life, all the artisans and crafters and guardsmen and apothecaries and beast handlers working together to make the city a safe haven for all who sought refuge from the Sin Eaters’ onslaught.
—and then: the Rising Stones in Mor Dhona, in a body both familiar and not, surrounded by friends connected across worlds, across timelines.
He takes Urianger’s hand in his, commits each line and callus to his memory. Let this, too, be something worth returning to — a source of comfort and warmth and security, that can only be attained in the presence of loved ones held most dear. “Come,” says G’raha. “Let’s go home.”

A not-so-simple relocation, day 11-12
I had intended these to slow down quite a bit by this point, having done the bulk of my relocation bits by day 10. My friends would have arrived home safe and sound, I'd have a household that is still missing my slow-boat things, but generally together otherwise.
That's absolutely not the way things have turned out.
The utter hopelessness of dealing with a government that actively hates people like you
You'd think I would be used to such things, growing up in the US.
This is absolutely going to be covered by my video series on how to emigrate from the US, but I feel the need to rant about it now.
On Tuesday of last week ("Day 3"), I had visited the Norwegian Police for my on-site interview, which was extremely fast and efficient. No complaints there. At the end, they mentioned that the Norwegian Tax Service would be mailing me my D-number, which is a temporary national ID number you get until you receive your real one. The US equivalent is a temporary SSN until you are considered permanent enough to have a real one. The police department would also mail me a card for my entry permit with my photo on it so I would have all of the happy fun rights of any resident of Norway with respect to entering/leaving the country.
The police had said it can be up to two weeks for the latter to arrive and the tax administration was "usually faster, but there is a holiday in between so *shrug*".
The thing is, this D-number was apparently the linchpin for me being able to do anything whatsoever in the country. I'll explain more in a bit, but I received said letter from the government Wednesday night ("Day 10", but after my post).
As an aside, for how ridiculous this journey has been, it took a weird amount of work to get at said letter. First off, my name had to be on the mailbox they delivered to; ours was completely blank. I ended up printing out a label using my label maker and just slapping it on the correct slot. From there, I saw the letter in the mailbox but we couldn't access it... because the landlord neglected to give us the key to open it (or our storage area) up. This has nothing to do with the immigration situation, but What.
Anyway, the letter arrived and it... didn't have a D-number. It had a full-fledged Norwegian National ID number inside and a second letter with my entry permit card. I should be good now, right?
Starting life as an immigrant is rough when you don't exist.
"That's some catch, that Catch-22," he observed. "It's the best there is," Doc Daneeka agreed.
-- Joseph Heller, Catch 22
Norway doesn't really do personal commerce like the US. Instead, they effectively do bank-to-bank transactions. Instead of, say, paying with a check, you set up a bank transfer.
This seems like the beginning of a third part to the International Commerce rant, but it genuinely isn't.
In order for these transfers to be secure, the Norwegian banking industry started a PKI or Public Key Infrastructure called BankID. While this started as just a banking thing, the Norwegian government took notice and started using the same form of identification. It makes sense - you have to have your information verified by a bank to establish an account and (after some tweaks) it met all of the strict requirements for EU authentication (which, while not a part of the EU, Norway tends to follow a lot of their regulations to make trade easier).
Sounds perfectly reasonable, right? Let's think this through.
In order to rent an apartment, you need to sign a lease... using BankID, since that's basically the only method of identification used by people in Norway.
In order to have BankID, you need a bank account. I think a Swedish or Danish bank account would work here as well.
In order to have a bank account, you need either a D-number or Norwegian National ID. Usually the latter, a couple of banks support the former as well.
In order to get either of those things, you need an address that you live at in Norway.
So in order to live in Norway, I need to be living in Norway (or Sweden or Denmark, since I think their IDs and accounts work as well).
Now, luckily, I'm here on a family immigration visa. I'm married to my partner @kriatyrr, meaning they were able to secure the lease for this place.
Other people though? I hope you're a student (where you secure your housing by prepaying your entire semester's housing price up front before you accept your admittance) or can afford to live in a residence hotel before you rent a place to live (which would give you a Norwegian address, presumably).
Here's a couple more of those lovely catches:
Cell Phones
In order to log in to BankID, you need a Norwegian cell phone number or some printed OTP (One Time Passcode) cards.
In order to get a credit card, I have to have a bank account and two years worth of credit history. That's fine, I can mostly understand that, but apparently the idea of a secured credit card doesn't exist here. There isn't a way for me to build credit.
In order to get a cell phone plan, I have to have a bank account and two years worth of credit history. Even though I'm not paying them monthly payments for a phone or anything, just to get service at all. The alternative, a prepaid account, denies users the ability to use BankID (or make calls/texts to numbers outside of Norway, for that matter).
In order for me to authenticate for either of those last two things, I need BankID. So that's a loop that can't easily be closed.
In order to order most things online, I either need a Norwegian phone number or a Norwegian credit/debit card.
In order to authenticate a Norwegian debit card purchase, you use BankID
As a result, the only way I can do most online transactions in Norway requires a two year waiting period.
Once more, family immigration to the rescue to break out of that catch. Since Kriatyrr is my spouse, they can just add me to a cell plan, which is post-paid, thus eligible for use with BankID. Other people though? I think they're just SOL and have to order everything offline.
Working
This is the one that I'm currently dealing with.
In order to work in Norway, you need several things: a visa that allows you to work, a job, a D-number or national ID, and a tax card that specifies your tax information.
In order to be paid, you need a bank account. This one doesn't have to be Norwegian, technically, but since I'm paid in Norwegian Kroner, it kinda needs to be for me.
In order to get that tax card, you log in to the Norwegian Online Tax system.
In order to log in to the Norwegian Online Tax system, you need to prove your identity using... yep, BankID again.
You can actually use one of four different identity systems at least, but:
BankID is considered the "safest" one security-wise. This requires you to have a bank account, which can take up to ten business days (!).
MinID is a non-banking based authentication method. To sign up, it can take up to ten business days to process (!), after which you can either receive codes via SMS with your Norwegian cell phone number (see above) or via snail mail letters for your second factor, taking up to a week per login.
Commfides is a corporation that you pay them 1130kr (around 100 USD right now) to verify your ID, and they give you a USB flash drive with your token. In order to do this, they have you go to their office and look at your passport. Their office in Oslo. They also offer the service through the postal service... but this can take 10+ business days to process.
Buypass ID. The link from the Tax Association's website is broken. When I went to their own page and signed up, this is all I got after giving them my information:
Tumblr media
That's... that's a great message, Buypass. Thank you for telling me absolutely nothing. I suppose it has the shortest processing time by virtue of it just not working?
In conclusion, if you see me making a new borehole in the Earth by repeatedly bashing my head against the ground, know that it was someone insinuating that "Norwegian immigration must be easy when you're American."
Previous entry:
(also, Tumblr ate the last 25% of my post, just for spite, by reverting to a prior draft for no particular reason. I think I retyped everything else at least)

Whether you are a yacht owner looking to relocate your vessel to a new destination or a first-time buyer eager to sail the seas, there are numerous factors to consider in choosing the right yacht transport vessel service.
With so many options available in the market, finding a reliable and efficient provider can be a daunting task. However, worry not, as yacht transport has never been more accessible. With the ability to ship your yacht anytime, anywhere, the industry is booming with innovative solutions to cater to your needs.
From specialized carriers equipped with state-of-the-art technology to the knowledgeable and experienced crew, Cross Chartering Yacht Transport is committed to ensuring our clients a seamless and hassle-free experience. So, whether you dream of cruising the Mediterranean or exploring the Caribbean, the yacht transport services team can help you realize your nautical dreams.
What is Yacht Shipping, and Why Is it Important?
Yacht transportation refers to moving vessels from one location to another with yacht transport by sea or land. It is an important first-class service for yacht owners and enthusiasts who want to relocate their vessels or participate in international events.
Yachts are valuable assets and require special care during transportation to ensure their safety. Cross Chartering Yacht Transport employs experienced yacht movers and uses specialized equipment to handle and move yachts.
Depending on the size and destination of the yacht, it can be transported using different methods such as trailers, lift-on/lift-off, or roll-on/roll-off. Yacht transport allows owners to explore new cruising areas without the hassle of undertaking long voyages.
It also enables participation in prestigious regattas and events held in distant locations. Yacht transport contributes to the growth and development of the maritime industry, creating employment opportunities and supporting related businesses. Overall, yacht transport is important for yacht owners and the industry as it facilitates the movement of vessels and enables access to various locations and events worldwide.
Types of Yacht Transportation Services Available
Various types of yacht transport services are available to cater to the different needs and preferences of yacht owners and enthusiasts. One popular option is the Roll-on/Roll-off (RO-RO) service, where yachts are loaded onto specially designed vessels using a ramp or platform.
This method is often used for smaller yachts and offers a convenient and cost-effective mode of transport. Another option is the LO-LO (Lift-On/Lift-Off) service, which involves lifting yachts onto and off the transport vessel with the help of cranes.
This method suits larger, heavier yachts that cannot be easily rolled onto a vessel. Yacht shipping services are also available for customers who prefer a more secure and protected mode of transport yacht.
Vessels are carefully loaded onto specialized yacht transport ships, securely stored, and protected from the elements during transit. This method is particularly suitable for longer journeys or transporting valuable or delicate yachts.
Yacht delivery services are also available where experienced captains and crew sail the yacht to its intended destination. This option allows yacht owners to avoid transport logistics and enjoy the experience of sailing in their vessels. Overall, the availability of these different types of yacht transport services ensures that yacht owners have options to suit their specific needs and requirements.
Factors to Consider when Choosing a Yacht Transport Company
When choosing a yacht transport company, several factors need to be considered. First and foremost, it is important to evaluate the reputation and experience of the company. Look for testimonials or reviews from previous clients to determine their level of customer satisfaction.
Consider the company’s track record in handling yacht transportation. Ensure they have experience transporting yachts of similar size and type to yours. Another crucial factor is the company’s insurance coverage. Make sure that they have adequate insurance to protect your yacht during the transportation process.
It is important to examine the company’s pricing and payment terms. Compare quotes from different companies and evaluate the overall value you will receive. Lastly, consider the company’s network and resources.
A well-established company like Cross Chartering Yacht Transport, with a strong network of partners and resources, will be better equipped to handle any potential challenges or obstacles during transportation.
Benefits of Shipping Your Yacht Instead of Sailing It
There are several benefits to shipping your yacht instead of sailing it. First, shipping allows you to save time and energy. Sailing a yacht can be long and tiring, especially if you are not experienced or do not have a crew to assist you.
By shipping your yacht, you and the captain can avoid the hassle of planning and executing a long journey, freeing up your time and energy for other activities.
Shipping your yacht allows you to avoid potential dangers during a long voyage, such as adverse weather conditions or unexpected accidents. Finally, shipping offers convenience and flexibility. You can arrange for your yacht to be transported to any destination, allowing you to explore new cruising grounds without needing a long and arduous journey.
How to Prepare Your Yacht for Transport
Preparing your yacht for transport is important to ensure its safety and protection during transit. First, prepare properly by removing non-essential items from the yacht to reduce weight during transportation. This includes personal belongings, electronics, and any loose items or equipment. Secure any remaining items properly to prevent them from moving or shifting during transport.
Properly winterizing your yacht is also crucial if you are transporting it during the colder months. This includes draining all water systems, adding antifreeze to the engine, and protecting vulnerable areas from freezing temperatures.
Before loading the yacht onto the transport trailer or ship, it should be cleaned thoroughly to remove any salt, dirt, or debris that could cause damage. Lastly, ensure that all necessary paperwork and permits are in order, and communicate with the transport company to ensure a smooth and well-coordinated boat transport and process.
Choosing the Right Transport Method for Your Yacht
When transporting your yacht, choosing the right method is crucial. There are various options to consider, each with its own advantages and limitations. One common method is using a specialized yacht transport company, like Cross Chartering Yacht Transport.
We have the expertise and equipment to handle different sizes of yachts and ensure their safe delivery. Another option is to sail your yacht to its destination. This can be a great choice if you have the time and experience. It allows you to enjoy the journey and provides a unique adventure. However, it requires careful planning, including extensive knowledge of weather conditions and maritime routes.
If your yacht is small enough, you may opt for trailering it. This can be cost-effective and convenient, as you have more control over the schedule and route. However, it is important to ensure your trailer is suitable for the size and weight of your yacht. Overall, analyzing your needs and the specific characteristics of your yacht will help you choose the best transport method.
Understanding the Costs of Yacht Transport
Understanding the costs of yacht transport is essential for anyone considering moving their yacht to another destination. There are various factors to consider when determining the cost of transporting a yacht.
The size and weight of the yacht play a significant role in the overall cost, as larger and heavier yachts require specialized equipment for loading and unloading. The distance and location of the destination port can also affect the cost, as shipping to remote or less accessible areas can increase expenses.
The season and market demand can influence pricing, with peak times typically being more expensive. Other factors to consider include customs fees, insurance costs, and additional services required, such as cradle or shrink-wrapping.
It is crucial to consult with reputable yacht transport companies, like Cross Chartering Yacht Transport, to obtain accurate quotes based on your yacht’s express-specific requirements. Yacht owners can plan and budget accordingly by understanding these costs, ensuring a smooth and successful transportation process.
Conclusion
Yacht transport services provide a convenient and reliable way to ship a yacht, regardless of the destination or time of year. With specialized carriers and experienced crew members, you can trust that your yacht will be handled with the utmost care and professionalism.
Whether you need to transport your yacht across the country or to a remote island, Cross Chartering Yacht Transport can cater to your specific needs. Memories Live On
December 7th is quite possibly the strangest day of the year for me. As you may have read in my previous posts, July 20th is right up there, but I think this one still holds the title.
I saw flags everywhere at half staff, remembering one of the darkest days in this country's history. The attack on Pearl Harbor was brutal, calculated, and so deadly, taking 2,390 American lives and tormenting countless others for years to come.
I worked in healthcare for over 30 years, 20 of those for a home healthcare agency. One of the many memorable moments in that time was when I filled in for a caregiver to help a gentleman do some shopping as he was blind. When I pulled up into his driveway, there's no way I could have been prepared for who I was about to meet.
This gentleman served in the military and was stationed in Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. We discussed the events of that day while we did his shopping, and he told me about having to jump off the deck into the water and then having to swim through the dead bodies to shore. Hearing about this event from him was more informative than any book or video or movie I could have ever seen.
Like many of the surviving men that day, this guy was still in the service 3 years later when the door to his "U" boat slammed down and he charged toward the beaches at Normandy. I was simply in awe.
We finished shopping somehow, and when I was done helping him unload his groceries, he said he really appreciated the help. I chuckled and told him it paled next to his help, and headed out to try and wrap my mind around surviving both of those events.
While my Grandmother was still with us, she would occasionally joke that the Japanese weren't the only ones that dropped bombs that day. You see, my father was born on the same day.
He lived an eventful life for sure, fathering 5 sons, adopting a daughter, and impacting countless lives before he left us in July 2007. Countless memories, good and bad, flood my mind (as feeble as it can be), and like happens too often these days I laugh and cry in memory.
As a little kid, my memories are of World Series games in Oakland followed by the parades, of sitting on the sky cycle of Evel Knievel, and enjoying our "Reggie" candy bars while we wrote with our "Reggie" pens (don't ask me where they ended up). My love of baseball was born during this time and it's still raging today.
My father was a custom painter/pinstriper who did incredible work despite having his fingers chopped short by a tool press accident. He was the type of guy you would take high dollar customs to in order to finish them off just right. His work was in shows all over, and his love of the arts still lives in us.
Like so many people, my parents divorced when I was young. They both remarried, with my mom taking us and relocating to Phoenix in 1977. This meant that there would be summer trips where my brother and I would go and stay with our father and his new wife for a couple weeks. We had a blast, year after year.
As I became a teenager and then a young adult, my stupidity created a gap in our relationship. I blamed him for all my shortcomings and basically tuned him out. I visited for the last time in 1993. There would be random contacts after that, but I think the last was around 1999 or 2000.
I remember the call I got to tell me he had passed away. It was such a weird feeling, like an old friend you were close with in high school, but hadn't talked to since you graduated. I felt bad for my brothers and sister, but it wasn't until after I had gone to California to go to my brother's wedding that it hit me.
The older I get, the more times I think it would be nice to chat with him and share stories, looking back and laughing at our amusing lives.
Happy Birthday Pop!!

Navigating The Waves: A Comprehensive Guide To International Boat Shipping
When it comes to exploring new horizons, nothing quite compares to the freedom of boating. But what happens when your nautical adventures take you across borders? International boat shipping opens up possibilities for enthusiasts eager to navigate distant waters. Whether relocating for work, planning an extended vacation, or simply trading in one coastline for another, understanding the ins and outs of international boat shipping is crucial.
This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about getting your vessel from point A to point B smoothly and efficiently. From choosing the correct shipping method tailored to your unique needs to ensuring that all necessary preparations are made before departure—we've got you covered. Let's dive into this comprehensive exploration of international boat shipping!
Choosing the Right Shipping Method for Your Boat
When it comes to international boat shipping, selecting the correct method is crucial. Each option offers different advantages tailored to your needs.
If time is of the essence, air freight may be your best bet. It's fast but can be pretty costly. For larger vessels or tighter budgets, sea transport often proves more economical.
Consider whether you prefer a cradle shipment or a containerized service. A cradle allows easy access and visibility during transit, while containers provide added protection from elements.
Think about the destination as well. Some ports are better equipped for certain types of boats, which can significantly influence your decision.
Always check for tracking options with your chosen company. Knowing where your boat is always brings peace of mind on this exciting journey abroad.
Essential Factors to Consider Before Shipping Your Boat
Shipping your boat internationally requires careful consideration of several vital factors. First, assess the value and condition of your vessel. This helps determine if you need additional insurance coverage during transit.
Next, research customs regulations in both the departure and destination countries. Each nation has specific requirements that can affect shipping timelines and costs.
Also, consider timing. Seasonal weather patterns may impact shipping schedules or conditions at sea, so plan accordingly to avoid delays.
You should also thoroughly evaluate potential shipping companies. Look for their experience with international boat shipping and read reviews from other customers to gauge reliability.
Factor in logistics—transporting your boat to the port and any necessary documentation will take time. Being proactive with these details ensures a smoother process regarding shipment time.
Preparing Your Boat for Shipping
Preparing your boat for shipping is crucial to ensure it arrives in perfect condition. Start by cleaning the exterior. Remove any dirt, debris, or marine growth that might cling during transit.
Next, secure all loose items inside the boat. Stow away cushions, electronics, and personal belongings to prevent damage. It's a good idea to inventory everything you're packing.
Drain all fluids from the engine and tanks. This step reduces weight and minimizes leaks during transportation.
Consider removing accessories such as antennas or sails that could get damaged or caught during loading and unloading.
Cover your boat with a protective tarp or shrink wrap. This extra layer protects against harsh weather elements encountered along its journey. These steps will help ensure a smooth sailing experience for you and your vessel when it reaches its destination.
Conclusion
Shipping a boat internationally can seem daunting, but with the right approach, it becomes manageable. Understanding your options and preparing adequately are essential to ensure a smooth process.
Choosing the correct shipping method is crucial. Whether you opt for container shipping or roll-on/roll-off (RoRo), each has its benefits tailored to different needs. Consider your budget and timeline when making this decision.
Several factors warrant attention before you start the logistics of international boat shipping. Customs regulations vary by country, so it's wise to be informed about documentation requirements and potential fees that may arise during transit.
Preparing your boat for shipment cannot be overlooked. Properly securing all equipment and reducing weight where possible will help protect it through rough seas or while being handled at ports.
By following these guidelines, you'll navigate the complexities of international boat shipping more confidently. With thorough preparation and an understanding of what lies ahead, you're well on your way to enjoying adventures in new waters without unnecessary stress.
