This might not mean anything to anyone but seeing the hate towards deku for losing his quirk and becoming a teacher feels a lot like the discourse about Cars 3 a few years ago when people were mad that Lightning got old and became Cruz’ crew chief.
And what’s crazy is both of them still got their happy ending. Deku still got to be a Hero and Lightning still got to keep racing. And I actually think it’s even better cuz they both have legacies since Deku has Kai, Eri, Kota, and all of his other students and Lightning is getting to train Cruz like Doc trained him. Yet people are/were still upset…

I know it’s a silly comparison because they’re completely different forms of media but please hear me out. The way fandom treats both of them is so dismissive of their actual character arcs cuz they just want both of them to be badasses and nothing more. Their fans don’t care how happy they were with their endings if they didn’t get to be more badass than before.
Like when Deku was in his vigilante arc, there were so many fans that only thought “hell yeah he looks so cool and he’s so badass,” but then completely ignored the fact that he had untreated wounds, wasn’t sleeping, wasn’t eating, and hadn’t bathed in weeks and then were mad when his class came to stop him from his self destructive behavior. They didn’t care about what the arc was actually trying to convey and the wellbeing of a character they’re supposedly attached to, they only care about how entertained they are while ignoring nuances. Dudebros only want to see media that conveys men with power and keeping their power because that’s exactly what they want for themselves. It’s toxic masculinity at its finest and what’s crazy to me is that even a children’s Pixar movie isn’t safe from the same treatment.
I was like 3 when cars 1 came out so idk what the reaction to it was at the time but seeing the way people talk about it now, especially after cars 3 came out, people claim that lightning was right about being held back from being stuck in radiator springs and that it made him “soft”. The movie is nearly 20 years old and people now are upset that Lightning gave up the piston cup and didn’t sign with Dinoco for the sake of people he met a week prior. People claiming that personalities can’t change that quickly or that he gave up a life changing opportunity even though he was already famous?? They just completely overlooked backlash chick got from gloating about taking the piston cup. It’s no wonder that Cars 2 was a fan favorite cuz it was an underdog story of a man who received essentially unlimited power, solved the mystery by himself despite being called stupid, and won the beautiful girl at the end.
TLDR;
No fandom is safe from toxic masculinity and it frustrates me
