Spoilers for bnha 291-292
Alright so I've heard a shit ton of anger about how this todoroki family drama is going down and I'll do my level best to boil it down to the essentials of my opinion.
Again. My opinion. You can disagree with it, but with all the stuff popping up I feel obligated to say smth;
Dabi: it's not right to fucking murder innocent people. I don't know how to tell yall this but he joined the LoV bc he aligned with Stain's ideals, specifically murder of unjust heroes. Alright, that's fair. His father abused him horrifically, and he turned his justified rage onto people who were undeserving of it — other heroes, and shouto. He's killed THIRTY people. Personally I'm rooting for him to kill Endeavor because that's justice baby, but if that happens he's going to be murdered in front of innocent civilians and Shouto. The number one hero, the new symbol. People are going to be horrified and scared, rightfully so, because they aren't going to see that as the murder of an abuser, they're going to see the strongest hero be killed. That's SCARY, because how easily could Dabi kill them? And saying 'these flames that have killed people belong to Endeavor' is a justification. No. They're his flames, he's killed people, he will kill people, and maybe he was justified in joining the LoV to kill Endeavor but trying to kill (how old is Shouto now? 16?) a goddamn child just because the abuse shifted from you to him and you got jealous is no way to cope.
Endeavor: I just said it but to reiterate — kill him dead. I don't want an abuser being redeemed in 2020, I want him to face the consequences. What I DONT want is the goddamn series suffering from it. Fucking exile him to the damn shadow realm until you can kill him (divorce from Rei, have him apologise and NOT be forgiven, I'll take anything) if you have to, but only after the war arc. If he gets murdered with the whole world watching then that's either a rallying point or a resolve-breaker, not the killing of an abuser. Dabi's video'll probably be explored in later chapters but right now people are seeing the number one hero fighting his son, who's apparently a villain.
Shouto: a child. People are talking about him calling Endeavor 'father', and I don't know how to say this but he's in a life or death situation (again, damnit). Practically none of the adults in his life are there to help, and if he's calling out to Fuyumi or Natsu, or even his mother, he's calling out to people who aren't there and can't help. 'father' is a call to action as well as trying to snap Endeavor out of it. If it's a life-or-death situation, I don't really think he's got the time to call Endeavor 'shitty old man' when DABI IS RIGHT FUCKING THERE AND TRYING TO KILL HIM.
Midoriya: yes, he IS worried about Shouto. He's trying to do something ("todoroki is in pain! Move, broken limbs, move!" because he's yelling at himself internally at the pain shouto's going through), and that something is 'saving their goddamn lives', but he's a little slow getting there because he's been yeeted into the astral plane to watch his quirk and AFO's quirk duke it out in the best display of the Cain™ instinct I've ever seen. He's also broken so, so many fucking bones, watched his mentors take fucking dives, and gone toe to toe with Shiggy because HES DOING HIS DAMN BEST OK???
And just to wrap it up; I don't know if we had confirmation yet, but did Endeavor kill Touya or not? Supposedly there was only a jawbone found, but was that due to Touya exerting himself and burning up or Endeavor pushing him during training? Because I'm wondering if Touya ended up killing some kid (thereby leaving the jawbone) during training and ran away with heavy injuries, or if Endeavor came across the jawbone and called it.

The chapter finally came out and this here hurts as hell.
“Finally, I can kill you.” Dabi completely lost any remorse for his family by convincing himself he has nothing to lose anymore, numbing his last empathy and care just to bring down Endeavor. He looks so fucking desperate and lost, I really can’t look at it as him genuinely wanting to kill Shouto with evil tendecies. It feels like he’ll cry, just by looking at his expression, and that hurts because he’s completely driven by instanity and madness from his trauma, he simply just wants to end it even if it means killing his brother.
I assume a lot of people will jump and say how he still wants to kill Shouto and he’s a murderer, but if you look deeper into his character, it’s far more than just that. He has given up and he’s ready to die but he’ll do it once he makes Endeavour suffer. However, the thing that bothers me is, he never said “I didn’t care about Natsuo” or that he’d die, he only said that it would make Endeavor suffer and that explains really a lot in what he’s doing and his actual goal.
In reality, he cared. Back then when he killed Snatch, he cried because he cared but he cried because it’s over for him. He embraced the insanity that haunted him from abuse. His rage towards Endeavor was bigger than his care for his family, whenever he thought they forgot him or not, he truly only wanted to fulfill his goal because to me, it looks like he was convinced doing anything else was useless as soon as he decided to become villain. He wants to kill Shouto because he will make Endeavor suffer, not because he personally hates him. He can’t go back anymore, and he numbed himself to not feel any care for his siblings because it would represent an obstacle in making Endeavor pay for what he has done.

I love Shouto, but me and Dabi had the same reaction to this line. Yes, Shouto, he has lost his mind. He just said that. Now please try to understand that this is not his fault.
Don't get me wrong - I 100% understand Shouto being mad here and not taking Dabi's side or really understanding it yet. And I definitely don't expect a teenager to get complex mental illnesses, either. But he didn't blame his mom back then, because even as a child he hated Endeavor and understood the pain he caused. He understood that ultimately, it was Endeavor that drove Rei to snap and pour boiling water on her son.
Surely, that is some kind of indicator, a parallel or foreshadowing, however you want to call it, that Shouto can also understand that Endeavor is the reason for Dabi's existence - obviously to a much bigger extent here, if only because Touya didn't receive help like Rei did (even though Endeavor's reasons for getting her help were wrong).
I know some people in this fandom will take Dabi's line right here,
Tumblr media
were he more or less indicates to not even care about Natsuo, too literal, much like when he said he doesn't care about Twice or the rest or the League. (and if you are of that opinion, please don't interact with this post)
The thing is, mental illness is complex. And people on social media love to be woke and claim to be against the romanticization of mental illness, but when some of those people actually get confronted with depictions of the darker sides of mental illness, like with Dabi, they suddenly forget all about it.
Rather than just reading this as 'Oh, look, he doesn't care about anyone except for himself and his goal of destroying Endeavor' try to look past that at someone who died as a child, whose brain has been rewired during the important years of development that happen until you're an adult, and is now obsessed with one goal - the goal that somewhere in his mind seems like the one thing left for him to do to survive, to reclaim himself when his own father deemed him unworthy before neglecting him.
He has been driven to a point where he even risks the lives of those that were always there for him, those he truly loves, because to him it's either that or actually dying.
People deal with and react to trauma differently. And sometimes it's in an extreme and uncomfortable way like with Dabi, but rather than just making it about him, we should also focus on just how bad Endeavor's actions were. Some people were eating up that 'redemption' arc, yet this should show just how difficult it actually is for him to redeem himself. Not because someone killed people for the sake of ruining him, no - because he has caused for Touya to die mentally, pushing him to become Dabi instead.
The heroes seem to stand a chance after all now, with Best Jeanist and Mirio arriving at the scene, but are they really going to win if they will just stick to their old ways and fight these 'dark' victims instead of trying to save them?
Regardless of Dabi having been wrong about Jeanist, he was still right in saying that we need to be more critical of heroes. Which is why I hope, very strongly, that eventually, Shouto can come to see this and, just like with his mom, make it his goal to save someone in need, someone who has been let down, someone who much like himself has been a victim of Endeavor. And maybe at the very least Shouto can come to realize that a hero should try to save everyone, even those that are more uncomfortable to help.

Just because I understand why Dabi is doing what he is doing doesn't mean I think it's okay
Almost everyone in BNHA has experienced the negatives of the hero society in different amounts. Todoroki, Dabi, and Hawks are all victims of abuse and most of the LoV and Shigaraki were let down by those who should have protected them. Someone who hasn't experienced the negatives of hero society can't hope to understand what these people have gone through.
But "destroying everything" is not a solution either.
I guess that's why I never liked the LoV. In my line of work we are not allowed to criticize something unless we present an alternative or a solution. The League's response to hero society is burn it down and destroy a bunch of stuff, not caring who gets caught in the crossfire. That is not a solution but just ending what was already there. It won't solve problems with their society but it will end the hero related ones. The damages incurred however make their methods far from reasonable.
The Hero Society and Villains are both at fault.
Both the hero society and LoV escalate problems:
there are crimes being committed -> people with quirks stop them
People with quirks become heroes -> villains rise up to stop heroes
You don't have a good quirk -> you aren't useful
Regular pro heroes are not effective anymore -> HPSC is created and essentially creates soldiers to pose as natural pro heroes
You want to be the best -> manipulate the workings of quirks until you have the perfect child to do it for you
The hero society has failed you -> burn it all to the ground
All of these scenarios had their solutions- but none were good and created new problems instead.
People can still like Dabi, he is a good character and shows us the other extreme of how someone responds to a negative hero society and abuse. My point is that both sides have done unjustifiable things and don't seem to have a real solution to each other.
Just because you were hurt doesn't mean you have the right to hurt someone else.
In conclusion I really hope we get some hard talks at the end or after this arc about the flaws in hero society as well as the LoV and how to fix the problems. (Also I want the HPSC to be exposed and roasted)

I love that Mirio’s back but I’m upset Nejire didn’t get much showtime. Yeah Mirio is the top student and we’ve been waiting for his moment, but I feel like we haven’t gotten to see much of Nejire’s capabilities and this could’ve been the time for her to pull it out. She’s also in the Big Three, but we haven’t seen her in action the way we have for Tamaki and Mirio. Her most memorable moment so far has been winning a beauty pageant :/
