If it's raining, the combination of the super bright headlights and the water droplets on my helmet visor often completely whites out the road and I can't see *anything* except maybe the centre white line of the road, but only if I'm lucky
Which is really, really fun, when you're doing 50+mph on some otherwise unlit back road in the middle of nowhere. I've hit flooded portions of road because I was blinded before (thankfully I stayed wheels down but it took four days for my boots to dry!)
If i didn't have to commute, I'd honestly avoid night riding just because of those headlights
Headlights are just too bright now. We gotta regulate them.
(And before anyone says it’s just an aiming problem - no. Like I apologize to the headlight aficionados clearly lusting after lighthouses, chernobyl, or the death star, but no amount of aiming is gonna fix the fact that the moment your car encounters any kind of hill, curve, or bump, my retinas are vaporized by a shade of blue-white previously known only to god. Just accept your limits and settle for a soft orange like the rest of us)

What do you think McQueen's first race was like?
Unmemorable. Set-up was off, never really found the track--he doesn't have a crew chief; the last one walked off and Rusty and Dusty are still throwing darts at resumes--and he wrecked out before the end. Nothing major, but he hit the wall trying to take the high line, out of the groove and into the marbles, busted a toe link. Hit some other stuff on the way down to the apron.
Rusty and Dusty have been told to expect growing pains. Rookie racecar on a first-year team? That's a hard game to play. Don't let it get you down.
Lightning, on the other hand, is told he cannot crash again.
"Racecars crash," Lightning replies churlishly. He's embarrassed. Upset he didn't get to run all the laps. This gig feels like it has more sitting than racing--one day? Out of the week?--and he had to watch all those other guys still racing, still flying, out there without him. Stupid infield "care" center. He hates seeing his name at the bottom of the leaderboard. 2 points. He's already over 40 behind the leader. By the time this season ends, they could have over 2000.
He'll have over 2000. He'll get there. If it weren't for the toe link, he could have won this. (He'd been running 17th all day, minus pit cycling. Whatever.)
This BMW guy doesn't understand, because he is not a racecar.
"Yeahhhhh. Racecars crash. You don't, though. Not on this team, you don't."
Racing's only good as long as the money holds out, the BMW explains. Rusty and Dusty? They're playing pro ball with Mexican league money.
Lightning's brow furrows.
"That's baseball," says the BMW.
"I know," says Lightning. (He doesn't.)
But he does know this: If the money runs out before the championship, he will not race at all. He won't be watching from the infield care center. He won't be watching from the track. He'll be back in Charlotte, watching on TV like he's no racecar at all.
Racecars crash, but lightning strikes.
The BMW--Harv, his name is Harv--laughs when Lightning says this, says, "Sure, kiddo. Whatever you gotta tell yourself," but Lightning takes this at face value. And it is what he tells himself.
By the end of the West Coast swing, people are talking. Rookie racecar will run the roughest, rookie 20 laps. But then things start changing. Then he's racing the King's lines, he's passing even when the aero's saying don't, only an idiot would-- From green to checkered it's like he's racing seasons and not laps. He's learning fast. Kid races like every lap's the last one. Not good race strategy, running your suff that hard every lap, not thinking at all about tire wear or pit strategies or building a race over time. But maybe it doesn't matter, whatever world he's living in. It's working for him. If you're first every lap, then when the checkered flag comes you won't be seeing taillights (they are stickers--).
He's not first. Not yet. But he doesn't crash.
On RSN they're talking about what they think they'll see out of him next year, with more races under his timing belt, when the circuit comes back to sunny, busy California. ("You mean when the circus comes back?" "Haha, oh Darrell--")
"Heck, I wouldn't wait for next year!" Darrell says, after the patter's moved on and the topic is racing again. Real racing. "Look out for that kid now! Our should I say 'take cover'? Get it, lightning?"
They get it.
Next week at Bristol, Lightning flashes his sticker for the cameras, says "kachow" for the very first time (at least, where anyone could hear him. He talks a lot in his hauler, alone. He says a lot of things).
This time, the high line works. And he does not crash.

In celebration of me just picking up a Toyota Altezza Gita/Lexus IS300 Sportcross what are some of your favourite wagons or shooting brakes
yOOOOOO!!!!
Okay now I have to ask, is it actually an imported Toyota or did you add that just for potential clarification?
I should give context for folx out there (apparently folx is a 'more friendly' spelling to some? oh the wild wonders of language): y'all know how Lexus is a brand Toyota founded to move upmarket? Yeah, they didn't need to do that at home because Japan is much better protected from too-good-for-Toyotas-itis: I mean, if the emperor can drive (well, be driven in) Toyotas I am pretty sure you can afford to be seen in one. As a result, until 2005 Japan got Lexus models but not the Lexus brand, receiving them with Toyota branding instead (and different model names too, since the two letter acronyms were a Lexus thing).
To get to your question, though:
SEDANS I LIKE THE WAGON VERSION OF TOO
Toyota Altezza Gita/Lexus IS300 Sportcross (:D)
Tumblr media
Indeed, I love your car! The JZ (for the folx: a six cylinder inline engine series widely regarded to be Toyota's best, capable of truly monstrous power with the right hands fiddling under the hood), the sporty, timeless styling, Toyota reliability and Lexus build quality, how no matter the market they refused to use a normal word for wagon, the chrome taillights so iconic they spawned an entire trend in 2000s car styling (especially aftermarket - hell, they still call them Altezza taillights!)... and that gauge cluster oh my GAWD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII Wagon
Tumblr media
I don't think the street equivalent of one of the most legendary rally cars (and certainly, with the Subaru Impreza WRX STI, part of the most legendary rally war) needs any introduction. I just wanted to make sure you knew that between '05 and '07 the closest thing to a rally car a dealer would sell you also came in wagon form. In Japan only, of course. Because if Japan can't keep a cool thing to themselves, they'll make a cooler version to keep to themselves. Always.
Morris Mini Traveller/Austin Mini Countryman/Mini Clubman Estate
How do Mini fans do it, man
Tumblr media
Who doesn't love the Mini? Who doesn't love the wagon's funky rear doors?
Tumblr media
And who doesn't hate the time they tried to modernize its front end for the 70s? Me.
Tumblr media
Like come on guys. You need to find within yourselves the intellectual honesty to admit that this fucks.
Tumblr media
I rest my case. Let's move on.
Citroën DS Break/Familiale/Safari/Estate/Station Wagon
How do Citroën fans do it, man
Tumblr media
Yes, the steering wheel had a single spoke - and by the way, that's it straight. It was angled like that so that, in a crash, it would guide your your body to the right - because there weren't seatbelts yet in 1955. Yeah. This is a 1955 design. The French are always been and likely always will be hellbent on being weird - and the Citroën DS is a distillation of the good that can come from that. It had pillarless windows! variable height suspension so effective you could only tell you had a flat by sound - and could change that flat by just having the suspension lift it for you! It had rear fenders held on by one bolt! Hell, in 1967, it got directional lights that turned with the wheels!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IN 1967!!!! Few cars have them right now today!!!
Oh, and also, most interesting to us right now, it has the greatest vibe gap between sedan and wagon I have ever seen. Allow me to illustrate (and slightly exacerbate by cherry picking examples).
Tumblr media
You get out of this with suit and tie and a watch you change the time of with felt tweezers.
Tumblr media
You get out of this with a lab coat, plane goggles, a propeller tophat and a concoction that violates a semester's worth of laws of physics. And, potentially, seven of the biggest freaks the planet could muster, because yes, this could seat up to eight, thanks to a front bench, a middle bench, and trunk seats. "You mean a third row?" HAHA. NO.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honorable mentions:
Mazda 6, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla KE70, Audi RS4, BMW E30, Fiat 500 Giardinetta, most '60s yankee landyachts that got a wagon, and all the ones that escape me at this moment
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WAGONS I LIKE MORE THAN THE SEDAN VERSION
Audi RS6 (second generation)
Tumblr media
Here's what happened (presumably): Audi had bought Lamborghini. Great! Now Lamborghinis could use Audi interior bits, a very welcome change because Lamborghini were not exactly the interior controls GOATs. (To stick to a representative example and not be here all day, when set to Fahrenheit the Diablo's digital climate controls changed the temperature by two degree increments except between 63F and 64F and 72F and 73F. And at the extremes it said LOF and HIF because the F did not go away. So yeah.) But this also gave Audi access to Lamborghini parts - and, a couple years in, one of the engineers told the others "Jo [German for "Yo"], there's gotta be something cool we can do with Lamborghini parts!" And the other was like "Maybe we can make the new RS6 [Audian for Real Sporty version of the A6 executive sedan] with a Lambo V10! That'd be a fast fucking sedan." And the first one replied "And a fast fucking wagon too!" And their eyes locked, lighting up with villainous thrill.
I mean, I could wax lyrical about the all wheel drive and super expensy carbon ceramic brakes and the flared fenders et al but if this garbage 5 second clip does not convince you that this busts ass how could I.
youtube
Toyota Corolla E110
Tumblr media
Well that's quite the jump. How could I possibly be interested in a car like this? If cars were meals this would be a plate of warm water. There is only one way to possibly get excited about a car this boring: personal significance. And sure enough, my Yaris-pursuing father was instead upsold a Corolla exactly like this, discounted to empty the lot in preparation for its facelift - and one day he used it to drive my momma to a hospital, they got out of it in two, and some tribulations later they got back in it in three - third being a hot-off-the-press me. This, then, was the car that was in the driveway through my stumbling infancy - and never hinted at letting us down. We then traded it for an Opel that gave us loads of trouble, the recipient traded it for an Audi that gave him loads of trouble, and on the Corolla kept getting passed on right to wherever it rests today, never letting anyone down - loyalty likely rewarded by a crusher turning it to mush. And I want another shot at doing this car right.
Okay, actually, there's another way to get excited about such a car: find out about the inevitable sick-ass Japan-only version. In this case Toyota figured they'd fit the Sprinter Carib (because Corolla wasn't near a silly enough name for the Japanese market) with a 20V 4A-GE Blacktop and a 6 speed manual, or in less technical terms "one of the greatest non-turbo powertrains of its size to ever graze a production car". Presumably just for the sake of keeping it Japan-only for the sake of annoying me personally.
Tumblr media
Well, joke's on them, because my idea goes even harder: replicating the powertrain the hatchback version competed in World Rally Championship with - 4WD and all.
Tumblr media
This but wagon, essentially. And then bin it in a tree in 15 seconds like I always do on the rally sim.
Honorable mentions:
1970 Dodge Coronet SW, Nissan Stagea, Volvo 940/960 wagon (which I talked about in another post!), and again all the others that I forgot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The shooting brakes are gonna need their separate post because otherwise it hits the image limit :/
Links in blue are posts of mine explaining the words in question - if you liked this post, you might like those!

BMW 1600 GT Convertible (resurrects One-Off)
In 1966, BMW bought Dingolfing-based Glas, a vehicle manufacturer that had launched the Frua-styled 1300 GT in 1964 and the more powerful 1700 GT a year later.By 1967, BMW had already modified the GT, giving it the 105PS (103hp) 1.6-liter engine, rear axle, and seats from the 1600 TI, a kidney grille and round taillights from the BMW 02 Series. The car got re-badged as the BMW 1600 GT and went on to achieve 1,255 sales in just under a year of production, making it one of the rarest Bavarian classics. While the Glas 1300 GT and 1700 GT each had convertible versions, BMW never actually sold a drop-top 1600 GT. However, that doesn’t mean none got built. At the request of BMW USA importer Max Hoffmann, the automaker explored the possibility of building a 1600 GT convertible and a coupe with a larger 2.0-liter engine.
In October 1967, BMW took delivery of a Frua-built convertible body mounted on a strengthened floor assembly. The carmaker painted and assembled the car in Dingolfing and on November 16 the 1600 GT convertible was completed. A second prototype got built shortly after but it was scrapped following an accident during the test drives.
Unfortunately, plans for series production and export to the United States never materialized. The only surviving BMW 1600 GT convertible was handed over to BMW AG’s major shareholder at the time, Herbert Quandt. Licensed for driving on public roads, the car remained in the Quandt family for many years before being sold to other private owners. Ultimately, Munich-based Allianz Centre for Engineering bought the 1600 GT convertible and carried out major restoration work on it for the first time.BMW Group Classic tracked down the car and bought it with the plan of returning it to its original condition at the very place where it first saw the light of day: the Dingolfing plant. After several years of painstaking restoration by BMW apprentices guided by trainers, the silver four-seat convertible with a red top is now back in shape. Packing both original and remanufactured parts, the 1600 GT convertible looks just as it did 51 years ago and is ready to take its place in the BMW Group Classic collection.

The story of the McLaren F1 and Gordon Murray.
The McLaren F1, a supercar crafted by McLaren Automotive, emerged from the visionary mind of Gordon Murray, who secured the support of Ron Dennis and enlisted Peter Stevens to shape its exterior. Unveiled in 1992, the McLaren F1 redefined the concept of supercars by embracing an uncompromising approach to design and engineering that transcended existing boundaries.
This groundbreaking masterpiece embodied a clean-sheet design, featuring bespoke components tailored exclusively for the car, excluding the taillights. The overarching principle driving its creation was efficiency, resulting in a compact form with featherweight carbon fiber body panels and understructure, along with aluminum or magnesium mechanical parts. Other unique features of the car are its powerful V12 engine from BMW and its center seat arrangement providing for optimal weight distribution. The obsession with weight became legendary, as even the Kenwood stereo, air conditioning, and gold-plated titanium tools were meticulously designed by manufacturers to meet Murray's stringent weight specifications, challenging the capabilities of parts manufacturers at the time.
Often overlooked is the McLaren F1's impressive racing legacy. The GTR competition version, reaching a top speed of 220 mph, immediately demonstrated its prowess by securing first, third, fourth, and fifth positions against purpose-built racers. It left the competition astounded. By the end of production in 1998, McLaren had produced seven prototypes, seventy-two street-legal models, and twenty-eight fully-fledged race versions. Notably, the Sultan of Brunei owns a notable collection of around eight F1s, while several unfortunate examples have met their demise due to over-enthusiastic owners. Fun fact, El Chapo owned one of these legendary vehicles and it has yet to be found.

The Role of Car Wrecking in Sustainable Auto Part Replacement
Car wrecking yards are vital to the community and environmentally responsible because they salvage valuable used automotive components from outdated, broken, useless cars and resale them for a profit. Replacement parts are needed when an automobile is damaged in an accident or has problems with some of its components. Auto wreckers have a large selection of old car parts that are both more affordable and better for the environment than new parts. Furthermore, since all of the automobile parts that reputable auto wreckers handle are of the highest calibre, there is no need to worry about subpar items. Utilizing used components helps you save money and the environment by reducing the demand for new manufacturing.
Prominent vehicle wreckers supply used car parts for nearly all automakers, including Audi, Volvo, Suzuki, Volkswagen, Toyota, BMW, Subaru and many more. To get assistance with the right materials or automobile components, one only needs to provide the best wreckers with precise requirements. The procedure of obtaining the correct part for the automobile also results in significant financial savings. One can be certain of the quality because only the top wreckers have a stock of parts of the highest calibre. Auto wreckers are therefore the greatest option for reasonably cost and ecologically friendly solutions, whether you're restoring a vintage vehicle or simply need a fast patch.
Tumblr media
Possess a Ruined, Damaged, or Old Car and Want to Get Rid of it Easily?
Vintage automobiles may be removed, and reputable car wreckers will pay top dollar for them and also in many cases same day service is also offered. They specialise in the removal and disposal of vehicles that are too old, too damaged, or too dangerous to operate. Auto wreckers may tow a broad variety of vehicles, such as 4WDs, trucks, buses, commercial vehicles, and automobiles of any year, make, or model. The owner of the automobile does not have to deal with any hassles because they arrive at the location with their truck and remove the car.
The top auto wreckers provide a variety of used vehicle components for sale, such as glass parts, 4x4 parts, headlights, taillights, engine parts, etc. Reach out to the top auto wreckers by phone or email if you need a vehicle removed or want to buy used automobile components.

BMW M4 CLS (Just when we thought they couldn't do better...).
The M4 CSL already shows its extreme performance potential with its large front kidney: the term "grid" no longer applies to the cover of the air opening. In the area above the license plate there is only one cross brace in each kidney, which fans out outwards - the same applies to the lower area. In this way, the air flow covers the cooling requirements of the powerful drive unhindered. And the performance of the M4 CSL also includes a lot of lightweight construction: the front splitter, the bonnet, the exterior mirror caps, the roof, the boot lid, the diffuser and the center tunnel are made of carbon, which saves a total of 15 kilograms in weight. The carbon structure is visible in two bonnet recesses running from the kidney grille to the base of the windscreen. It is surrounded by a red stripe, which also highlights the fins on the roof and the side skirts directly under the doors. The M4 CSL shows even more carbon on the underside of its tailgate, which is not covered but only sealed with clear varnish. The so-called BMW Motorsport emblem on the front, rear and the wheel hub covers is available for an extra charge.
Laser light headlights are also available for an extra charge. As with the M5 CS, they shine yellow and are intended to create a reference to the BMW GT racing vehicles. The LED lights at the rear stand out due to their filigree laser light filaments - according to BMW, there is no other manufacturer who has implemented this technology in series production. And for those who don't believe it, the designers have integrated the lettering "BMW Laser" into the covers of the taillights.
It delivers 550 hp and generates a maximum torque of 650 Newton meters. Compared to the M4 Competition, the CSL variant has increased by 40 hp, while the maximum torque between 2,750 and 5,950 rpm remains the same. The increase in performance is the result of an increase in boost pressure from 1.7 to 2.1 bar and an adapted engine management system. The CSL has a specific reinforcement in the engine compartment and an engine mount that is also model-specific. The engine mounts are harder: compared to the M4 Competition, their spring rate increases from 580 N/mm on the left and 900 N/mm on the right to 1,000 N/mm on both sides. Special features of the engine are a linerless, so-called closed-deck design of the very rigid crankcase, which in turn enables high combustion pressure. In addition, the cylinder liners are coated with iron using the arc wire spraying process. The resulting tiny indentations on the cylinder surface are filled with oil and, thanks to better lubrication, ensure more turning pleasure.
