there is something about the bickering relationship that fabian and adaine have that is so special to me. they are the first to throw a verbal punch at the other but it's with this overwhelming familiarity and fondness, despite very few "meaningful" canon interactions. still, adaine is the one to put fabian's eyepatch back on (or at least to give it back), and she's the one that the hangman was happy to let ride. she's the oracle predicting his illustrious success, and will still give him constant shit over things

fabian obviously can't solve adaine's spell component problem for plot development reasons, but I like to think he knows better than to offer before she can bring the problem to him herself. just like she knows better than to bring up the similarities she sees between aelwyn and ivy. they don't treat the other as fragile, but they also don't take half the shots they could.

I never liked Xiao Fung's human form all that much and I've decided it's mostly his hair, but I also edited his nose to more closely resembled his Demon form and made his face rounder

I love that after treating Colin as less than an equal and trying to intimidate him prior to their parting of ways, Deli is clearly the one more affected by meeting again and seeing how Colin has comfortably moved on and found comradeship (or at least allyship) with Raphaniel. Like Colin was a little salty about the skald comments, but in that wonderfully understated "i care just enough to say something because you're wrong" way, a minor injury compared to how Deli is "thrown" by seeing Colin and Raphaniel fighting together

Also as someone who has only read up to the second book, I find myself wondering how long Johannes Cabal knew his significant other for. Like Horst was trapped in the crypt for eight years, so she had to have passed away at least eight years prior to the first book. Johannes is in his late twenties, so we could say he was around eighteen to twenty years old when she passed away.

My point being, unless they met when they were children, it's very likely that Johannes has been trying to bring his significant other back from the dead for longer than he knew her.
