Yeah I agree. I was impressed with how they portrayed him in Rebels, and it seems like they've put a lot of thought into the character writing for Ahsoka so far, so my expectations are relatively high.
As I've only read the Heir to the Empire books, and that was a while ago, I remember being really impressed and intimidated by Thrawn's pragmatism combined with his strategic mind. He literally found Force-nullifying creatures and brought them with him because he knew Luke and Leia were most likely going to be the ones to confront him directly.
Thrawn is calculating, and opportunistic (in the most awe-inspiring ways). It makes me wonder what he would do if shown the New Republic and if he might ever consider using them to secure the Chiss from Threats Unknown (tm).
I know it's never going to happen, but I often find myself wondering if circumstances were different, what could have been and what may yet be if Thrawn switched sides or made his own faction without the baggage of the Empire or Republic.
Is there anything about Thrawn's characterization that you find to be the most intriguing or attractive?
Oh where to even start...
He's very morally grey. I don't think he's evil, but I also wouldn't label him "good." In the books, he has the ultimate goal of protecting his people, the Chiss, and he's willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish that. Even if it means siding with the "lesser evil" (the Empire) and doing some really... not great things.
I'm a sucker for characters that ride the line between good guy and bad guy. I'm a sucker for characters who you never quite know whether you can trust them. And Thrawn is the perfect balance of that.
He's not evil, but he will absolutely do whatever he needs to in order to accomplish his goals.
He's not good, but he does value life and avoids taking it where unnecessary.
It's a very sexy combination.
Plus... he's smart. He's tactical. He analyses things and thinks things through and comes up with convoluted plans that somehow work out. It's amazing to watch and to try to follow along with his plans.
And he can be very sweet. The scene that cemented my love for him was in the first of the Ascendancy books, Chaos Rising, where he gives a scared little girl markers to draw with. And there's another scene earlier in that book where he, as a much younger man, gives words of encouragement to another little girl who's worried about her future.
Thrawn can be cold but he isn't heartless and cruel. He cares about people, especially his own people (the Chiss).
He's just a good combination of smart, morally grey, and compassionate that makes me fall utterly in love with him.
Now, keep in mind, all this is based purely on the six new canon novels. He comes across very differently in Star Wars Rebels and he is a very different character from the version in the old Legends trilogy (Heir to the Empire) where he was first introduced.
You can imagine how worried I am about how he'll be portrayed in the upcoming Ahsoka episodes. 😬

Hi, I wanted to ask about one of your centaur worldbuilding posts. The one about capture-the-flag-wrestling-keep-away game. You mentioned "Using one of your littlest rider cousins". So centaurs have human cousins? Or at least human-appearing. Do you mean that as in literally, i.e., blood related? Or is it more spiritually, like family friends that are essentially family? Additionally, can humans be part of a centaur herd if this is the case?
Tossing these two together since they’re kinda related, thanks for asking I love talking about these guys! Riders typically have both a centaur and humanoid halves making up an extended family group. The groups consider each other family, raise their children together, often share flocks and homes, and will call each other cousin/uncle/grandmother.
So humans can definitely be part of the centaur herd! But with my Riders in particular the culture is pretty much 50/50 centaur/humanoid. It probably started with rider/runner pairs raising their families together as a result of their war-time bonds, but as the children are raised together they frequently find ready-made pairs among the other children as they grow up playing rider games together, thus deepening the bonds between the families.
Only so much "horseplay” allowed before the elders are yelling about “Get off their back! You’ll be swaybacked by 30 if you keep that up!”
As prospective warriors get older and closer to joining a war party, if they don’t have a partner already, the best way to find someone you work with well is the games! GoatPull, Racing, and Wrestling are all great informal ways to test out prospective partners and get to know how the other moves and build trust! Even for partnered pairs, they will sometimes switch riders/runners as part of the fun. Usually if the pair are raised together as siblings their bond will be pretty solid by the time they are grown. For those finding each other as adults there is typically a lot of trust-building and weapons drilling together before they actually face battle together. And even then a few pairs may dissolve after their first battle if on decides they aren’t made for the battlefield. It’s rare but happens, along with the usual death a battlefield entails. If the remaining half chooses to go on as a fighter, they will find a new partner in the same way. Usually with growing up playing games with the whole tribe, everyone knows a few Riders they would get along with reasonably well.
There’s a lot of trust when you’re putting someone on your back with a sword or bow and arrow that you wont end up with those weapons in you instead of the enemy, or if you’re standing and firing from a charging centaur’s back that you wont end up on the ground in the middle of a fight. There’s a LOT of communication, trust, and practice involved in a Rider pair to ensure that the rider doesn’t get tossed by an unexpected maneuver or put a sword in their runner’s shoulder trying to regain balance during the stress of a battle.

Hey, I love your prompts and some of the neglected sidekick ones got me thinking. What if there was a sidekick with a sort of non-combat/utility power, like creating portals. The hero organization uses them as basically a taxi service, running them ragged, all the while, not one of the heroes so much as gives them a second glance. But a villain (super-villain or not) spots them and sees how poorly they're treated. If they were sympathetic, how might they react?
Oh snickerdoodles, I just saw one of your posts about leaving things vague enough for people to tack onto, so if it makes it easier feel free to discard my previous ask. It occurred to me as I was running with another prompt so I put too much into it. Sorry again!
hey no problem! your request is FAR from the most specific I’ve had, and I also really appreciate the consideration in your second message even if there’s no need to apologise <333
I love the idea as well!! using the sidekick as a taxi service, never letting them fight so they can’t advance up the ranks, refusing to understand the limitations or exhaustion of their powers, summoning them to dangerous battlefields with villains they have no hope of beating if they get pinned down--it’s all so tasty! and then a villain cottoning on to what’s going on and either being genuinely sympathetic and wanting to help, or realising how useful a teleporter would be on their side and how easy it would be to improve their treatment enough to convince them to swap sides.......OR BOTH! both is good ;P
someone should uhhhhh write this 👀👀;P

Question for Uriah: what behaviors do you find most endearing from your two favorite snake-men?
Uriah: “Gosh, I could go on for hours! But uh, lemme think… With Kenny, his humor is infectious, whether he’s just being a goof or trying to get a playful rise out of me. He’s very encouraging, too, and likes showing me new places in his neck of the jungle when I visit. Also, he has a really nice singing voice that’s gotten to me plenty of times. As for my husband, his patience is terribly endearing; he’s always ready to reassure me or talk about whatever is bothering me. Watching him be gentle with me or our son gets me every time. And he has the cutest habit of tapping his claws together when he’s embarrassed or caught doing something he shouldn’t be—like trying to sneak up on me. He doesn’t win every time.” -smiles and adjusts glasses- “Honestly, the only thing I can say doesn’t inspire the warm-and-fuzzies are the rare times I’ve seen either of them being aggressive, but even then they had good reason and I can’t say it’s negatively impacted how I feel about them a single bit.”

Hey I love your ACNH stuff! Just got my switch 3 days ago, any tips for a new player?
Aww, thank you !! ;;
And sure!
Don't be like me and constantly buy flowers starting out because it's a nightmare to dig up when you ACTUALLY get around to renovating your island.
Scorpions & Tarantulas sell for big bells -- but they also can't cross holes. The shovel is your best friend, and the rivers / lakes / oceans are your enemy bc sometimes the bugs just yeet themselves in there. Make sure you make a full square too! They can cross diagonal spaces. Don't move when the Tarantula is standing up, & don't move when the Scorpion raises its claws! Obliterate everything on Nook Miles islands to turn it into the respective islands (bamboo island is best for this), divide it up into sections so they can't catch you, and catch as many as you can. Save them to sell them to Flick if you can! He buys them for +50% than Nook's Cranny would.
Alternatively, with sharks being around, if you want to farm for sharks (running up and down the beach, scaring away smaller fish -- unless u wanna catch them -- until you hit the tail fins!), save them for CJ! He'll buy them for +%50 like Flick.
THE CRITTERPEDIA WILL TELL YOU IF YOU'VE DONATED TO BLATHERS. The initial message after catching a fish/insect will also tell you whether you've caught that creature yet!
Pls use art guides if u wanna buy from Redd. He's crafty this time.
You have like 5 rocks on your island and while you can hit them for resources, one of them you can also hit for money! Just make sure you hit them consecutively to get the most resources (you can do that by again, digging holes behind yourself in an L-shape).
Some people go for the turnip market. You can buy turnips from Daisy Mae on Sundays. Don't time travel backwards with turnips! You'll rot them. Selling prices change everyday at Nook's Cranny with different patterns; pretty sure there's calculators online that'll help if you want to figure out when's best to sell them! They'll rot the next Sunday otherwise.
Craft any weeds you have ingame into leaf umbrellas. They'll sell for a lot more than the weeds themselves! Check out Hot items too to see if you have any spare resources so you can craft items for Timmy and Tommy.
Run into a building - museum is best bc no door - if wasps are chasing you! They're also scared of party poppers & won't attack you if you sit on a tree stump funnily enough. Calling for rescue will also ward them off!
uhh thats some stuff! there's probably a bunch of guides online that can help! I'm still learning myself.

Hello! I love your form-finding help and the insights you have decided to share. Kind of an odd question, but can you think of any overlooked traits for the Atlantic Puffin? It's my mom's daemon and she's kind of been feeling put out about the form recently.
yes!! this is so cute, atlantic puffins are a wonderful form! your mom sounds like a very sweet person.
first off, atlantic puffins are such neat animals! their beaks change colors throughout the year and they have these “teeth” on the top of their beak so they can keep holding onto fish as they collect more into their beak (they’ve been seen carrying up to 60!). they’re incredible diving birds that spend much of their life at sea and their migration is highly variable, suggesting that they engage in individual exploration. chicks also have two types of calls: peeping and screeching, the latter of which is common begging for food, but the former of which is speaking up about how happy and well-fed they are.
the atlantic puffin soul is someone who is a beautiful compromise between extroversion and introversion; they're delightful people though they also appreciate their alone time. they're exceptionally loyal and communicative, and they're known for being extremely proactive and hard-working. this genuine sense of determination is far from ruthless ambition: they always prioritize a peaceful environment and the feelings of their loved ones around them. they’re incredibly efficient people whose specialized expertise often goes unnoticed as they are definitely the modest sort. this is likely someone giving and honest, who has a large heart but struggles to see that in themselves... they tend to be more self-conscious and sensitive, and their expressiveness is never harsh or boastful. they’re most likely privately curious and inventive with a wide imagination. the atlantic puffin’s metabolism is incredibly primed to survive a harsh life at sea; i’d also expect them to be enduring and hardy, and the sort who are sentimental about routine, but not afraid to break from the mold if that’s where their heart takes them.
if the form isn’t feeling so right for her, guillemots are similar but much more gregarious, bold, and confident! i consider atlantic puffins more IxFJs (most likely 6s or 9s) and guillemots more ExFJs.

I don't know if this is exactly your wheelhouse, but I'd love it if a human male witch who's out backpacking on his own has his camp discovered by a male werewolf who's ( wink ) starving. My best friend and I trade your posts back and forth all the time, he's into orcs! Thank you for all you do!

My dad found a book preview I'd downloaded to our kindle library about coping with a narcissistic parent, and I'm just bracing for a screaming match. On top of that near-daily anxiety, I'm also starting to think that I may have C-PTSD, and my psychiatrist is distant from my needs at best. Could I have a few words of encouragement?
Damn pal, I’m so sorry. I just quickly gotta state for my narcissistic/other cluster B followers that I am generally not a fan of anything which portrays any personality disorder as inherently abusive, but that being said, I am sorry that your dad is abusing you whether he actually has NPD or not - and I’m so fucking sorry he found the book you downloaded!
That really sucks and in the future you have to be more careful not to search out info and resources about his abuse on accounts he has access to. I am not judging you or attacking you for having downloaded that preview, I just don’t want anything bad to happen to you so I encourage you to be really careful. That being said, maybe you could lie and tell him that it’s a resource for a friend or something? Whatever you need to say to stay safe is okay to say.
According your psychiatrist, then I am sorry that they aren’t providing the health care you need. Have you attempted to talk to them about your dad? If not, maybe that could give them a new and more accurate perspective on your situation and your anxiety/potential C-PTSD, especially considering that there’s a big difference between anxiety as an irrational mental illness thing and anxiety as a serious trauma response. I definitely think having that conversation will be worth a shot.
All in all I am so sorry about your situation and while there unfortunately isn’t a lot I can realistically do about it, I wish you all the best and I hope and believe that you’ll find your way through all this bullshit, even if it’s really hard. I’m unfortunately not a person who has the resources or the education required to guide you through all of this, but I am sending you all my best wishes and I really hope everything works out in your favor eventually!

Okay, so it's been established that belief has power. What if someone associates music to some event, like the Song of Storms to creating or quickening storms, or the Song of Healing to speed recovery or ease pain. Would that depend on the power of the belief, or the power of the person? It's also been noted that music has a sense of dangerous power. Would playing, or whistling a song be as dangerous as singing it?
Further in the Elsewhere it might have some effect, but not on campus proper beyond small, small things.

I'm new to d&d, and I have a dumb question: What is the functional difference between a longbow and a shortbow in-game? Which do you prefer to use?
In 3.5, 4e, and 5e, the difference lies in damage dice, a d6 for shortbow vs a d8 for long, and range, 60 ft for short bow, 100 for long . In 5e, a short bow is a simple weapon that anyone can pickup and use while the longbow requires a weapon proficiency.
I personally prefer the longbow on my characters, but I can see where the 5e short bow could come in handy as a backup weapon for a mage at early levels or even a good utility for a melee based character looking to do a little hunting while the party is away from the city or when their opponent has someway of keeping out of their normal range.

I love the thought of someone challenging Kal, and he just stands from where he'd been resting, and shrugging the mantle off of his shoulders, revealing armor and strong muscles. Really laying into the 'you done fucked up now' vibes.
The really funny thing about this is that @isei-bleeds is the one who suggested fur mantles as part of typical Dakh costume during some worldbuilding talks, and I am 90% sure that this sort of imagery was part of the reason. It definitely was part of the reason I went “yes, good idea, let’s do that.”
Look, it works logically, the Dakh live in the mountains, and a lot of the climate that I think of when I think of where they live is based on the mountains in the Philippines, where one of my Uncles has a farm. The drive up is interspersed with patches of cloud cover and direct sun, and as you drive through them it goes from wet and cold to blazing hot almost in an instant. The Dakh’s living situation is similar, if not more extreme!
But also yes definitely because the image of a yautja slipping it off and revealing bare muscles is very good for me, I am allowed to put things in because it’s sexy, right? Right? Someone back me up here.

bluewolf7998 replied to your post “Sirius , remus and hagrid :D for the HP meme”
You know that a werewolf will attack nearly anything while transformed, right? Even loved ones or family.
All animals can be trained. All that is needed is a hand strong enough.
