I'm just sharing this on my Tumblr because, while it's Alastor and Hazbin Hotel related, it's not related enough to spam all over the HH fan groups I follow on Facebook. And, I'm not part of any Hazbin Hotel discords at the moment, which also sucks. So for those reading this, you're welcome to spam it at those places if you think it's on topic enough. Just remember to credit me
As for everyone on Tumblr, let's go all over the place on this topic!
So, I found out much of Vivziepop's characters were made years ago, especially Alastor, she made him way back in middle school. And it made me think way back to college when I made a few of my characters.
I have a lot of them, but three stand out as the ones most used. One is named Bluesy, is an adult human female, admittedly, myself in a role playing world 😅 Another is named Tao, and while technically human, she was created in a lab to devolve humans to their nearest common ancestor, so she has special abilities up to and including a long grasping tail.
And then there's this character I want to talk about. I had to draw her to introduce her to you people, please excuse the crappy colored pencils.
Her name is Lirious, and the more I think of her, the more I realize that I may have made my own version of Alastor

Now granted there are differences, thank God, I don't want to accidentally make a carbon copy. She's a demigoddess, she's thousands of years old, she dresses like that, and she is more than happy to openly flirt into any hot male's pants. But, she is a demigoddess of chaos, she does have a prominent red and black color scheme in her outfit, she has a cane, and, no joke, did not plan this... she also loves making deals.
Now, my DeviantArt page may be gone by now, thank God. But, I made her around sophomore year in college, so that's be about... 2003, 2004. Predating Alastor by five years!
Now, let me clarify, I'm not rooting my own horn or saying I beat Vivzie to the punch. It's fun to have two chaotic beings causing chaos. My point is... how common is it for people to make their official characters, and one is an unofficial Alastor? I mean, we joke about it when we watch other media and think "oh hey, it's Alastor." But no, without even being aware, I made a character, that I find twenty years later, has some uncanny similarities. And, when I brought this up to some friends, they also said that, before they knew of Alastor's existence, they accidentally made their own unofficial Alastors too!
Maybe this is a trope to have some chaotic overpowered being just there to cause chaos with a side of move the plot, I dunno!
So, the point of the post:
One, yes, Lirious and my characters can be available for rps, but it's been a very long time, and I'd rather RP with someone who's above eighteen, because Lirious is more of a mature rated character with how horny she is 😅 The rest of the characters I can make PG, but I'd still recommend more grown up players
Two, and more importantly, have you ever made any characters and realized zed that you accidentally made an unofficial clone of another character? Especially if you didn't plan it that way, and especially if the character didn't even exist yet
Oh, and here's some Alastor for you sticking it out through my entire rambling 😅

@grapesnolives that STH session is fascinating, thank you. This is such a pivotal song in the history of music that we may forget that they had to actually sit down, write it, rehearse it, work on it. But from the very beginning there’s this lightness to it, openness and wistfulness. You can also hear how important the drums are to the mood of the song – they lift it up immediately. And that solo is great too, but I can see why they didn’t choose it. It’s a bit too bluesy for that song, imo. Goes in a different direction that the rest of the song. I’m also fascinated by the different lyrics Robert’s using. Piper will open up the river?? I’ve got to listen to it more carefully later.
How do you feel about Stairway in general? I know that for a lot of people it’s nearly as overplayed as it is for Robert, but for me it’s always very special. I’ve always loved Celtic and folk music and that feel of Stairway is unmistakable. Jimmy does here one of the things he does so wonderfully as a guitarist – he’s playing guitar, but it mimics another instrument. In Stairway it’s the harp. There’s also the masterful saxophone solo in SIBLY. There’s a lot to be said about Jimmy Page, not all of it positive, but his musical sensibility has always been unmatched. “The master of mood” indeed.
Thanks for the next link. There are so many bootlegs out there. It’s surprising considering how much they were always trying to keep everything hush hush. I concur your need for footage. They could even be doing nothing interesting, but to hear and see them interact naturally with each other would be wonderful. Even just voice recordings. There are so many hilarious ones of the Beatles.
I always thought the drum solo/guitar solo/NQ key solo/acoustic section were practical inserts to ensure all members had a chance to rest during what were often really long, exhausting shows. – yes, I kind of think that too. Let’s be honest, Robert had enough limelight as it was. But I think he sometimes didn’t feel quite as much a musician as the other three.  His ‘theatrics’ were always there I think, due to the loudness of the music, his interactions with Jimmy’s guitar, emulating the style of other singers (Steve Marriott, Janis Joplin etc). But by 1973 his ‘original’ voice was gone and he might have been overcompensating with his behaviour a bit. Not that I complain, quite the contrary. It’s glorious. And Robert is always Robert – he might be exaggerated, but he’s never fake.
Yeah, the solo were very definitely self-indulgent as the time went on. To be fair, it was LZ style to be over the top, massive with sound, always more and more than a mere mortal could think of. Extending and extending and keeping you on the edge. You could say that about RP’s singing at times too. And yeah, Moby Dick. I used to skip it a bit at the very beginning of listening to LZ, but now I relish it. You can really appreciate the power and creativity of JB then. What you said about his drumming vs many other bands is very true. To me he doesn’t simply play them, he dances the drums. There’s a rhythmic and dynamic quality to it which makes me think of Latin American dances – not the type of music, mind you, the dynamics. Each part of the drum set is a dancer which exchanges moves with the others. They bounce of each other to create beautiful movement. His drumming is never flat or one-dimensional. It’s a whole dance ensemble. And there’s heat and sultriness to it.
Well, when it comes to IMTOD at Earl’s Court there’s only one thing I can focus on no matter how hard I try. Maybe one day I’ll be able to look past it 😉
Are there any tracks where you prefer the studio to live? – boringly so, Stairway, probably. Cause I’ve known it long before the rest. But I’m sure it will change and keep on changing at different times in the future. It’s only been a couple of months since I started listening to LZ and I’m only now leaving the first stage of walking around the flat with my jaw on the floor 24/7. Soon I’ll be able to appreciate more details and I suspect my preferences may change a little. What about you? Do you have any favourite tracks or even moments in the songs? Particular bits or performances?
@lara1606 – I’ m not sure Jimmy was angry at that comment, at least outwardly, rather embarrassed. It wasn’t very smart of Robert to say that. Bonzo certainly wasn't impressed. It was one of RP's ‘on the verge of outing them’ moment. It was probably filed in Peter Grant’s book of ‘shit Percy most certainly should not have said in public.’ I bet there was a book like that. Or at a least a thick file ;)
It's interesting the circumstances of LZ appearing in our lives when they're most needed. There's definitely something to it.
@grapesnolives thank you for the link, I'll check it out during the weekend. I agree that their experimentation is always beautiful and fascinating to hear. They had singular sensitivity to the emotion – sound axis. And you can never be bored with it.
I've moved us to a new post, since our conversation is veering off the topic of the original post and I think we've hijacked enough of that already ;)
Unfortunately, I don't have the source for that quote about Robert, as I have been consuming a lot (and I mean A LOT) about LZ in the past few months, but in quite a chaotic manner and I haven't been taking notes. But If I come across it again, I'll send it to you. I was also surprised by it, but I guess it makes sense, since it was originally Jimmy's band and I believe that as time went by and Jimmy was losing his grip on reality more and more, Robert might have felt constricted a bit or started to develop a need for more independence. Nothing unusual in that, it happens in pretty much any band. He might have also been genuinely annoyed at the endless solos, quite like Bonzo, and JPJ probably too. I mean, to make a six and a half minutes long song into 45 minutes is both amazing and unnecessary lol. And Robert did have a bit of an imposter syndrome, still has, actually. He often spoke about them as 'three musicians and me'. 'I'm just a wedding singer who sang with musicians', and how his elaborate singing style developed as a method to stay in the song, cause the long musical intervals made him feel irrelevant. He definitely wanted to impress Jimmy and there was a lot of reverence for him as the worldly, knowledgeable, experienced musician who created his own band. But that began to disappear when Jimmy got heavily into heroin imo and definitely lost after 1977. Robert's priorities changed. His view of life changed. The love was still there, but Jimmy was no longer someone that Robert had to live up to, so to speak. Now he was someone to protect (and, in a way, someone to mourn). But the initial experiences formed Robert as a singer, set his standards and informed his view of musical expression.
I've also noticed that he makes fun of Bonzo (the diarrhea jokes will live with me forever, thanks Bob :/ ) and JPJ (and himself, occasionally), but not of Jimmy. IMO that's because he and Bonzo were 'bros', mates, and that's typical friendly behaviour in this kind of relation. JPJ was also a guy in the band and concert is entertainment, so it's only fair to make people laugh. It created a sense of dynamics, each band member had his quirks and image to play with. But with Jimmy he is only ever sweet and attentive. Not least because Jimmy Page can't take a joke imo. He's quite fragile and Robert knew it very, very well. But this doesn't read to me as reverential, but rather as caring. He knew not to make Jimmy the centre of attention that he might not see as entirely friendly. And his mysterious image had to be uphold too. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but whenever Robert speaks to Jimmy his tone of voice slightly changes. It becomes softer and warmer. ‘is it alright, love?’ kind of thing. He definitely wanted to be in Jimmy’s good books and for more than one reason.
I’m not surprised you thought they were a duet, seeing the photos. I recall seeing photos of LZ throughout my life and they’ve always been focused on J and R. I didn’t know what the other band members looked like before I started listening to the band. I knew Bonzo’s name because of his tragic death, like I do many other musicians’ who met their ends way too early, and knew that he is recognised as one of the, if not the greatest rock drummer of all times. But that was about it. IMO, he is the greatest of them all and he’s the only one whose drumming makes me genuinely tear up. There is as much emotion in Bonzo’s drumming as there is in Robert’s singing. Astonishing.
If you’re asking how I got into the story of J and R, it was quite simple really. I remembered the photos I’ve mentioned (mostly the WLL mic in the hair singing) which have always looked very suggestive to me and had heard before that part of the magic of LZ was the interplay between the two, and so when I finally got into their music I started doing my research to see if my initial impression was correct. And found plenty of evidence to confirm it, some of it much more straightforward then expected. But if you’re asking how I got into LZ then I’d say it was time for them to come into my life. One night on YT they appeared on my list and the journey began. I knew some of their songs before (STH, WLL, Dazed, a couple of others) and I had quite an emotional experience listening to Stairway as a young teenager, but that was the extent of it. I firmly believe that music comes to us at the right time and there’s no point in forcing it. It will find you if it’s meant to. And it will be a journey you’ll never forget.

         Make the yuletide gay, from now on our troubles will be miles awaa— er, so the words would go in harmonical replaced rhythm with this classic tune. Except, probably the main reason Levin took to the guitar so well in the first place. It was far less effort on his part than what it took to blow and...keep blowing. What were lungs good for anyways?
          Sitting outside a modest sized apartment far off to a place he’d much rather be and with an eviction notice plastered right smack in the middle of the door. ‘A sight only wordy genius Dr. Seuss could write about’, he thought. Green eggs and ham, a frozen assets rock star...for now. Hence the poetic musical note of a bluesy kind...someone was bound to stumble around. There was only a handful of neighbors he’d ever seen, hopefully the holidays nearing their end would have the majority back in the swing of things—back on the grid of floor 3 that is...recluse with the incense burning at the end of the hall he’d spare the fright for their sake.

That’s The Devil’s Music { Closed RP }
The sounds of a sweet, somber symphony carried throughout the area much like a forlorn echo. An echo that sounded pitiful in it's own right. The instrument-- a piano-- carried on swiftly, the white and black keys struck simultaneously with one another in a continuous manner. The vibration of the grand piano-- which was painted in all black--, rumbled against the hardwood floor with each stroke. Not a single beat was missed in any form or fashion. In fact, the harmony was absolutely perfect for it to be created by one single individual alone.

But, .. there was something about the melody. Something that made the musical art seem.. robotic? There were no missed notes; None at all. No personal flair added into the tune. Of course, if such a piece was played in a concert, the music would be more than satisfactory. It.. It just appeared as if the instrumentalist just.. didn't care.
Suddenly, those pale fingers came to a halting end. The classical instrumental was no longer thick in the air, and there was nothing but pure silence hanging around. The keys of the piano gradually recoiled to their normal state, and the musician's hands simply settled down to his sides.
...Soft clapping soon replaced the silence that lingered in the air-- The clapping of one, sole individual. It was hard to tell if the clapping was mocking.. or if it was actually genuine.
Eventually, the taunting applause settled down until the silence was no longer burdened by the vibrations in the air. The pianist, however, didn't bow. He didn't even acknowledge that his performance was appreciated.
"... Well done, Koen." Death remarked, having been that specific and only person that had applauded Koen's talent. The being was stationed in his cushioned chair in a parlor-like place. It was much more of a theatrical lounge area than anything else. His posture was relaxed, unburdened by any concerns or thoughts. Death actually liked classical music, to by quite honest. Classical music hardly had any verbal words during an orchestra set. It was music that could mean anything that you wanted it to mean.
"..Well?.. And do you have any.. feedback towards Beethoven's masterpiece?" Death inquired of his reaper creation, curious as to what Koen would say to him.
The reaper didn't cut a single glance over to his practical father. Instead, his half-lidded eyes focused on the shiny keys that were laying still before him. However, with a slow roll of his raven eyes, Koen merely shook his head lightly towards Methuselah's question.

"Boring." The reaper voiced, in a blunt tone-- his pitch lacking from care. "... Same as the others. They are all boring. I don't care for any of them.. I am annoyed like hell that you keep asking me to play this bullshit."
"Now, Koen.. I know that.. you are a whole, new you. You aren't in tune with your new characteristics, but.. it'd do you some good to watch your tone. I'm the one getting annoyed of telling you that." Death responded back to Koen, his facial expression not faltering away from it's nonchalant appearance.
"..Anyway, how about this? How about... you play me something that... isn't 'boring'. Every musical piece that I have asked you to perform has all been 'boring' to you. So, .. show me what you wouldn't 'categorize' as boring." The older-appearing man suggested, giving Koen the option to play any song that he wanted.
For the next few moments, Koen's movements were absent. It was almost like he was completely disregarding his father's request. Because, why did any of this matter, anyway? Koen just wanted Death to stop "testing" him in the aspects of "troubling emotions" and "hindering feelings".
Still, with yet another shake of the reaper's head, Koen rose his hands once more to hover of those ivory and ebony keys.
With no warning from his end, Koen's fingers begun dancing along the piano keys at quite a fast pace. He'd begun playing a much more different rhythm than the "Moonlight Sonata" tune. This piece was much more... secular-- Much more bluesy, and with so many bopping beats. Soon enough, Koen's hands were all over the piano, his chords changing every so often throughout the song.
His foot was quickly pressing against the pedals that were located underneath the piano key spread, causing the notes to twang on in a nice flow.
Methuselah only observed in silence, his eyes narrowed down at the display that his son was showing him? Blues and rhythm? Really?.. Death would have never thought that Koen would prefer such profane music.
Hidden away from Death, there was the smallest smirk that appeared upon Koen's face as his piano-playing intensified. He didn't know why this was stimulating him.. It was fast, disorderly, and all those notes were ultimately wreaking havoc on the piano. It.. was just perfect.

However, Koen allowed his fingers to abruptly stop beating against the keys. Honestly, his fingers and hands were twitching.. just a little.
Death's eyebrows quivered upwards just a smidge when Koen's jiving number came to an end. Well, that was definitely something different.
"That's the Devil's music, son." Death finally spoke out, giving his initial thoughts on the music. He wasn't being completely serious in his wording, but.. it did show him something new about the reaper.
"You personally chose that song to play, so I assume that it isn't.. boring. If it's not boring, ..then what is it?" Death inquired of Koen with a curious tone, his eyes not breaking away from looking at the reaper.
"... I don't know." Koen said aloud as he was gradually trying to take a hold of his bearings. His hands weren't vibrating any longer. In fact, they made their way back down to his sides. "... It's.. deadly. Lethal."
Lethal? What on Earth did Koen even mean by that? That didn't exactly make any sense to Death.
"And.. that.. exactly.. means?.." Methuselah slowly enunciated, trying to get more information out of Koen. That didn't give the older man much to go off of. Hell, HE was Death. "Deadly" and "lethal" didn't exactly mean anything to him.
"It means.. that I'm not so certain." Koen declared, his head finally turning to take a view of his creator-- who was lazily rested in the comfortable furniture. Koen's eyes were bland, not interested or energetic in any way. "..Perhaps, I just mean that it's... that it's fucking boring me to death."

".. Still with that tone?... I guess it's better than the former-- You.. constantly pissing me off over some loose girl. So, your vulgarity is an improvement to me in comparison." Death added, slowly shrugging his shoulders upwards to display his apathy. Koen didn't crave that Yukimori girl to Death's knowledge, so Koen's tone.. his mood.. can easily be worked with.
"..Mm." The reaper groaned more to himself than to anyone else. Although Death decided to "customize" Koen's mood and his behavior, there was still something about Yumi that tugged at him. He'd never admit it right now, but.. it was definitely there. The thought of her now wasn't because of.. longing or admiration.  It was because of something.. much darker now. Maybe betrayal? Disappointment? Those were only a couple of possibilities. "Right."
"You have a meeting with the higher ones today? A definite conclusion for the situation that happened at the Yukimori's house months ago?" Koen asked, decided to alter the conversation so that he wasn't the primary subject.
"Correct. Life, Harmony,-- even Chaos will be there. I'm tired of board meetings, but.. none of them will be satisfied until I.. 'compromise' with the majority... Can you believe they want me to bequeath my title to someone else for a while? As if any of those sloths can handle my work..."

"Alright, soooo-- Senior year is about to start-- We're talkin' cramming, crying, and cussing-- The whole nine yards. This upcomin' fall semester is gonna make us or break us, ya know what I mean? We've only got--what? Three more weeks? Three more weeks before we gotta get back on campus and work hard." Alexander expressed to Yumi, his fiance... who has actually been his fiance for a few months, now.
It was pretty close to closing time at The Rabbit Hole, and today was one of the days that Yumi and Alexander worked a shift together. Because they were on their summer break, the two of them were able to take later work hours.
But, to be quite honest, Alexander didn't know how much longer he wanted to stay there at the cafe. He'd put in a couple of years there, and he liked it there just fine. But, it.. was just that his "other job" simply came with more money. And with his engagement to Yumi, Alexander wanted to accumulate more than enough earnings to give Yumi the wedding that she wanted. He just knew that Yumi would do all but agree with that decision, but.. that would be a different conversation for another time.
"So, I'm thinkin'--" Alexander resumed, while sitting down a glass of bubble tea specifically for Yumi down on the counter of the bar. "I'm thinkin' we have a little getaway? I've got a couple of places in mind-- And I know this is probably too damn sudden, but... look--"
At this time, Alexander removed two coins from the depth of his pocket. One coin was a quarter, and the other coin was only a penny. Dropping both of the coins from his hand and letting them clatter to the surface of the counter, Alexander narrowed his eyes and tapped his index finger against the quarter.
"Alright-- Heads says we'll goooo toooo.. Las Vegas. Tails says we'lll goooo.. tooooo New Orleans. --You gonna be the one flippin' the quarter, too. Oh! And the penny is the wild card. If you choose the penny, you don't have to flip it. The penny represents the.. special place I wanna take ya. A secret.. kinda."

Announcement (please read)
//Mun Bluesy here just to give a quick status update. As of right now I’m facing the end of my 2nd semester in graduate school and I have way too much f**king work ATM. So I will be on throughout the week and (perhaps) active over the weekends. This is temporary and hopefully I will have a better schedule in the summer and fall.
I am also dropping a few threads on Koichi because… A.) I have new followers B.) I may not remember the plot ((gomen))
I plan on keeping ones with @thecrocodilefather, @deuscorta, @insert-rp-here, @1980s-edgelord and @doraiisms
Everything else will be dropped.

So with Studiotale’s second anniversary, Studiotale is pleased to announce we’ll be making a few changes. 
Studiotale will now be making a transition into Studiotale Productions! 
Studiotale Productions is the step for many members of the group to begin pursuing a career in the arts industry. With this, many new changes are coming. You may have noticed with recent events, we’ve been enunciating that any fandoms are welcome. Studiotale Productions will no longer be SOLELY focused on Undertale, but we’re not cutting it off either. 
With this, @askstudiotaleerrorandbluesy will very soon be changed to StudiotaleProductions. It will also include additional members of the cast as a group blog. 
Studiotale Error and Bluesy WILL still be available in the blog and will answer asks when they’re able to, but now, not only with them, you’ll be seeing other cast members appearing for questions as projects are released. 
Studiotale Productions is aiming to make a name, even create whole new fandom communities. You all are our history. You were the ones that were there from the very beginning. We hope you will continue to show your loyal support to our group and to help spread our name and works together!

What is Studiotale Productions?
 Studiotale was originally based off a joke AU by loverofpiggies for Undertale events, focusing solely on Undertale-based characters. Since then, the muns of Studiotale have grown closer and improved in their skills and have decided to have less of a focus on Undertale. They decided to start focusing on their own projects as well and to work together under one name: Studiotale Productions.
 What’s the difference?
 Not much except the name. We’re still around for RP and all, but we’ll also be posting original content with the rest of our things. Our original content is copyrighted and we’ll be creating merchandise for our fans.
 Does this mean no more Error and Bluesy and anyone else?!
 No, no! They’ll still be around, along with new characters. Studiotale Productions is just opening our target audience to all fandoms. You’ll be seeing new original characters from Studiotale Productions’ own works, as well as new characters from CrayonQueen’s other projects. Error and Bluesy will be available for questions, as well as other existing Studiotale characters and new characters, such as:

 What else is coming with this change?
 With Studiotale Productions, we’re trying to make an effort to secure a career in media arts in whatever career has always been our focus. We want to combine our talents and resources to become an independent media group. With this, we also need funding for better resources (better computers, better software) to help improve our productivity. Many of the members are also financially struggling just to make ends meet and we want to have an emergency fund in case anything goes wrong. We also want to begin saving up for a home, with a home studio, for us to work from in the future.
With that, we’ll be asking for donations or for people to fund the projects through Patreon, as much as people are willing to offer for the things we’ll offer in return. We’ll also be making merchandise based on our projects in the near future.
 I can help out with something you don’t have! Can I join?
 We’re not actively looking for people. We’ve always relied on the bonds we create with people. Some people just fit into the chemistry so well. While we’re making steps to becoming an organization, we’re still a family-run business. If we like you, you’re in, no matter what your talents are. Though we would love original music composers and voice actors.
 If I don’t join but want to help with projects part-time, will I get paid for it?
 At the moment, it’s unclear. As we get started into a schedule, start getting an idea of how much money is coming in, and what things we need, we’ll start focusing on how we’re paying people outside of Studiotale for things such as voice acting. Chances are, it’ll be negotiated how much you’ll be paid, if it’ll be a one-time payment for each appearance or if it’ll be consistent, etc. and a contract will be written. But as of now, it’s not clear.

 Our main focus is comics, as well as some writing projects. Some projects are done by individuals or broken up into groups. Our main projects at the moment are below:

 Will Studiotale Productions still have a family-friendly rating?
 Studiotale Productions will continue to be a public blog with at least a teen rating. There’s swear words and all, maybe some mentions of sex (though not in graphic detail, verbally or visually), but overall, it should be safe for anyone who meets Tumblr’s terms of being at least thirteen years of age. However, we do have an 18+ blog at StudiotaleSkeletonCloset that is restricted to minors. The blog is flagged as adult-orientated and we are not responsible for minors who bypass Tumblr’s minor restructions. If we learn that a follower is below eighteen years of age, they will be swiftly blocked, and if possible, their IP will be entirely redirected. With one of the latest piccrews I found, I tried to make myself into an elf from Onward. (Though I think I'd fit better in their world as some form of centaur).

I usually dye my hair blue sometimes, but as my hair is always blue as an elf, I changed it to my elfsona would color her tips and/or sidebangs. I'm also taking some liberty from my rp self who dabbles in spiritual things and trinkets, and my actual and rp self who can speak in tongues, to make her a character that studies love and magic, but can only wield it through relics and artifacts, as well as some rituals or practices. Hence why she's wearing a cross and wielding a small wand, that can probably only do one or two small things.
My actual Onwardsona would keep their interest in magic and lore, but be a centaur, and dyes her hair blue. I'm just debating what kind of centaur and her name. I haven't decided on the first, but decided to go with the blue scheme (as my online name is Bluesy and my rp self is Bluesy Smith) and have her last name be Bluesmith.

On the subject of STH and what you’d mentioned before about RP’s own feelings about his role in LZ as a whole, I was struck by his words here https://youtu.be/IFwU2qlEttg?si=LYEVWz8ZuFPfpJR_&t=77 (from 1 min 17 in case the timestamps don’t work)
I could be projecting, but it’s the way he gives credit to the composition while eloquently, yet noticeably distancing himself from his own lyrical input . It comes across like he reveres Jimmy’s contribution and was being a tad harsh on his own, crucial role in the creation of that masterpiece. He says it’s cos he was only 23 and writing from a youthful perspective, but I wondered if it wasn’t also partly cos of that point you’d said before about him not feeling as ‘worthy’ as the vocalist compared to the others?
IMO the importance of drummers is very often underestimated and the art of drumming is not given proper credit.  Completely agree, you appreciate a great drummer even more so when you see/hear a band with a poor drummer!  I think on the one hand,  it’s an instrument that people kid themselves that they can ‘play’ but far far fewer  can actually master.  I can’t even begin to imagine what sort of mind someone has to have to play parts with complete limb interdependence (eg Fool in the Rain) . And then,   in a band like Zeppelin where live performances were so off the cuff and to a certain extent, spontaneous, being able to come up with stuff on the fly is just incredible. In addition to all that, there’s the physical stamina required  too. Of course, in Zeppelins shows, everyone was a MVP and had to be ‘on’ at all times, but the drums needed such brute force for 3+ hour shows-it makes you realize how strong Bonzo was, especially for those days where there was no concept of hitting the gym and way (waaay!) too much alcohol.
The same goes for SIBLY at MSG 1973. Such a magnificent performance overall. The flow of his expression – from soft bluesy notes to rhythmic speaking and unexpected screams. Blows me off my feet every time.

The MSG version has become the ‘definitive’ live performance of the song I think, but I enjoy listening to all versions/eras of it and this BBC one has another layer of raw emotion that is quite shocking and stunning especially on the first listen. I was reminded of it when you wrote about the Knebworth In the Evening  having that scream that was “ so pained. So desperate”  It’s another example of how RP was so much more than a mere ‘frontman’ imo.
For example “If we could just join ha’ends” in The Rover (that’s my sorry attempt at transcribing it lol) – Yes! That’s a great catch. I hear a twang in his accent there. Those vocal inflections add such character to the performances and I think that’s why we sometimes prefer the studio versions, or at least feel more comfortable with them at first because they were almost concert-ready, ad-libs and all even at the studio level.
Sorry, I could ramble on about Robert for years. Feel free to stop me at any point if I bore you.
Not at all-please do Ramble on to your heart’s content-I do love Robert too. I find myself smiling at his interviews and chuckling along at his live Plantations-he was beguiling when he was young and as an elder statesman with the weight of the awful tragedy and challenges in his life-I feel he has the experience that adds a lot of gravitas to his words.
In addition, even though we’re both LZ fans, our affection/attention is on different members, so it’s actually interesting to hear about how other fans view their guy’s contributions within the band.
On one of my long walks with my earbuds in, I enjoyed listening to my LZ playlist in detail to select a few of each member’s standout moments and found another one for Robert in the wonderful Misty Mountain Hop (along with In the Light, one of LZ’s more ‘Beatle-esque’ numbers imo) here

I think in Jonesy’s case with his vast array of instruments, you could fill a book of links to great moments. Completely agree with the forboding, ominous opening to D&C and then his absolutely relentless playing in the latter part of it. I also love both his funky, sleazy bass in the slow part of The Lemon Song as well as the shift to the high speed part. He’s great in everything, but that song really frames his skills, I think. One of my personal favourite keyboard parts is at the end of one of those long NQ jams live here in Seattle 75. I love his closing part, but I’ll just add the whole link (actually, it's come up as the youtube video as is here) as it’s a wonderful jam that works brilliantly as chill out music when having drinks with friends-hard to believe it’s only a portion of a song as it could work as a piece independently, so fully formed and groovy it is.

I realized that although Jimmy’s legendary riffs are often what makes each song immediately recognizable, I think I have a personal preference for his acoustic work. It feels more entwined within songs, more collaborative than the showstopping, but dominating nature of The Guitar Solo. Great moments for me are Babe, I’m Gonna  Leave you, Going to California and That’s the Way . As for electric guitar, I’m moved and impressed by his sound in Tea For One-it’s mournful yet melodic, plaintive, yet sensual and brooding.
Speaking of Jimmy (and Robert) IMTOD – yes, it’s J and R having shameless explicit sex on stage, essentially.  Lol, I did my homework and re-watched it. There is a lot of growling, pouting, hair flicking music porn from RP and JP’s guitar neck is as blatant a phallic symbol as you can imagine! Get a room, guys!  I’m curious about P& P worshippers-do you think they (you?)  love the individual guys/the idea of them together or the idea of being together with them the most enticing? !  
Watching that performance prompted another question. Sadly, TV/live footage is few and far between, but from the few concerts that are available-with the magic of a time machine-which one would you attend? Denmark TV/ RAH/ MSG/ Earl’s Court/Seattle/ Knebworth and why?
@grapesnolives thank you for the link, I'll check it out during the weekend. I agree that their experimentation is always beautiful and fascinating to hear. They had singular sensitivity to the emotion – sound axis. And you can never be bored with it.
I've moved us to a new post, since our conversation is veering off the topic of the original post and I think we've hijacked enough of that already ;)
Unfortunately, I don't have the source for that quote about Robert, as I have been consuming a lot (and I mean A LOT) about LZ in the past few months, but in quite a chaotic manner and I haven't been taking notes. But If I come across it again, I'll send it to you. I was also surprised by it, but I guess it makes sense, since it was originally Jimmy's band and I believe that as time went by and Jimmy was losing his grip on reality more and more, Robert might have felt constricted a bit or started to develop a need for more independence. Nothing unusual in that, it happens in pretty much any band. He might have also been genuinely annoyed at the endless solos, quite like Bonzo, and JPJ probably too. I mean, to make a six and a half minutes long song into 45 minutes is both amazing and unnecessary lol. And Robert did have a bit of an imposter syndrome, still has, actually. He often spoke about them as 'three musicians and me'. 'I'm just a wedding singer who sang with musicians', and how his elaborate singing style developed as a method to stay in the song, cause the long musical intervals made him feel irrelevant. He definitely wanted to impress Jimmy and there was a lot of reverence for him as the worldly, knowledgeable, experienced musician who created his own band. But that began to disappear when Jimmy got heavily into heroin imo and definitely lost after 1977. Robert's priorities changed. His view of life changed. The love was still there, but Jimmy was no longer someone that Robert had to live up to, so to speak. Now he was someone to protect (and, in a way, someone to mourn). But the initial experiences formed Robert as a singer, set his standards and informed his view of musical expression.
I've also noticed that he makes fun of Bonzo (the diarrhea jokes will live with me forever, thanks Bob :/ ) and JPJ (and himself, occasionally), but not of Jimmy. IMO that's because he and Bonzo were 'bros', mates, and that's typical friendly behaviour in this kind of relation. JPJ was also a guy in the band and concert is entertainment, so it's only fair to make people laugh. It created a sense of dynamics, each band member had his quirks and image to play with. But with Jimmy he is only ever sweet and attentive. Not least because Jimmy Page can't take a joke imo. He's quite fragile and Robert knew it very, very well. But this doesn't read to me as reverential, but rather as caring. He knew not to make Jimmy the centre of attention that he might not see as entirely friendly. And his mysterious image had to be uphold too. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but whenever Robert speaks to Jimmy his tone of voice slightly changes. It becomes softer and warmer. ‘is it alright, love?’ kind of thing. He definitely wanted to be in Jimmy’s good books and for more than one reason.
I’m not surprised you thought they were a duet, seeing the photos. I recall seeing photos of LZ throughout my life and they’ve always been focused on J and R. I didn’t know what the other band members looked like before I started listening to the band. I knew Bonzo’s name because of his tragic death, like I do many other musicians’ who met their ends way too early, and knew that he is recognised as one of the, if not the greatest rock drummer of all times. But that was about it. IMO, he is the greatest of them all and he’s the only one whose drumming makes me genuinely tear up. There is as much emotion in Bonzo’s drumming as there is in Robert’s singing. Astonishing.
If you’re asking how I got into the story of J and R, it was quite simple really. I remembered the photos I’ve mentioned (mostly the WLL mic in the hair singing) which have always looked very suggestive to me and had heard before that part of the magic of LZ was the interplay between the two, and so when I finally got into their music I started doing my research to see if my initial impression was correct. And found plenty of evidence to confirm it, some of it much more straightforward then expected. But if you’re asking how I got into LZ then I’d say it was time for them to come into my life. One night on YT they appeared on my list and the journey began. I knew some of their songs before (STH, WLL, Dazed, a couple of others) and I had quite an emotional experience listening to Stairway as a young teenager, but that was the extent of it. I firmly believe that music comes to us at the right time and there’s no point in forcing it. It will find you if it’s meant to. And it will be a journey you’ll never forget.
