There's this YouTuber named lulaloopsey who makes video essays about nostalgic cartoons. Yesterday, she uploaded a deep dive of Blue's Room. Earlier in the video, she mentioned a user on DeviantArt called PrinceCallum who made their own analysis of the show which helped her in the research process. Josh, dressed up with a magician's black hat and cape with a red bowtie, has found a blue paw print on a picture of his cousin Joe. Josh draws Joe on his notebook as a happy squarish head with small ears, a V-shaped jawline, and curly hair.

Our good friend @itsatechreel uploaded a video last week theorizing why we never see Steve and Joe's parents, or even hear them mentioned. And I really must say that his theory is a lot more plausible than MatPat's Blue's Clues theory.

Thanks, Tech, for doing your part. You sure are smart. You sure worked hard. When you use your mind, take a step at a time, you can do anything that you wanna do!

If You Don't See It, Be It!

I just watched yesterday's new episode of Blue's Clues & You, and I'm impressed with its story and message. Josh, Blue and their friends are making their own Super Wonder Team movie, but Slippery Soap questions if Periwinkle can really play Rocket Blast, a role that's usually played by a dog. Hearing this, Periwinkle doesn't know what to do.

To cheer him up, Josh shows him a handmade comic book about how Josh wanted to play a superhero, but his friends doubt that he can because he had brown skin, and every superhero they saw were white. Josh's Lola tells him that just because he didn't see any Filipino superheroes, it didn't mean that he couldn't be one. With these words of encouragement, Josh decides that he will be Song Man. The next day, Josh's friends apologized for hurting his feelings, realizing that what they thought before wasn't true.

I won't spoil the ending for those who haven't seen it, but I will say that it reinforces the message that anybody can be a hero regardless of their race/gender/sexuality/disability/etc.

Blue's Clues and Veganism

In "Thankful With Blue", I noticed at the end when everyone is sitting down to the Thankful Dinner, Josh says "I'll start with the turkey please", but then he says "Ooh, ah, no the sweet potatoes". Given that future episodes would imply that Josh is a vegan, and his actor is a vegan activist in real life, I'm guessing the show was hinting at his veganism from the first season.

At first, I was like "wait, if Josh is vegan in the show then why did he ask for turkey at the Thankful Dinner?" But on several watch-throughs of this episode, it looks like Josh quickly remembered that he doesn't eat poultry and changed his mind about the turkey, asking for sweet potatoes instead. But that doesn't explain why he drank milk in "Meet Josh" and "Knights of the Snack Table" or why he was eating ice cream with everyone in "Josh and Blue's Ice Cream Shoppe". They never imply if the two have dairy in them or not.

Maybe I'm just thinking about it too much. It is a preschool show.

I rewatched blue's big city adventure recently and felt a strong urge to draw Josh! There'll be more, definitely

I've been visiting the Characters page for Blue's Clues on TV Tropes, and it seems there's a small number of Tropers who believe that Blue falls under the Messianic Archetype trope. It reads:

"Blue is a special puppy, and that has nothing to do with being blue. She is the target of a prophecy, born during an important cosmic event, announced by a divine winged being (Moona), appeared on Christmas Day, is a Reality Warper born and raised around common puppies, is constantly accompanied by her True Companions, and is an All-Loving Heroine who gives advice to people close to her."

Now this may be far reaching, because "Blue's First Holiday" shows that Blue doesn't actually appear in the house until the day after Christmas when she skidoos out of her book, and the prophecy discussed in "The Legend of the Blue Puppy" talks about Blue using the key she came with to unlock her greatest gift (a special play room where she can talk to the viewers) rather than giving herself up to save her friends. However, you could argue that the show fits this trope in a more significant way than the main character herself.

After Season 6 of Blue's Clues ended, Nickelodeon decided to end the show in favor of the spin-off show "Blue's Room". Unfortunately, that series would only last 2 seasons and 17 episodes before going quietly into that goodnight in 2007. Twelve years later, Traci and Angela brought Blue back to Nick Jr. with the reboot "Blue's Clues & You!" The Second Coming of Blue, if you will.

So, even though Blue doesn't exactly fit the bill for a messianic figure, the death and resurrection of her show is almost like Jesus rising from the grave after he died for our sins.
