I saw Vengeance Most Fowl tonight. I love Wallace and Gromit and I’d say the special was okay. I did enjoy it, but to me it didn’t match up to the other ones.

I liked the police officer lady, she was really cool. And her eyeshadow was lovely. And seeing Feathers McGraw again was great, he was amazing and I loved every moment he was screen. Gromit being amazing as always. He looked so adorable in his motorcycle outfit. He’s my favourite character. the farmer from Shaun the Sheep making an appearance was fun to spot. Ben Whitehead has gotten really good at replicating Peter Sallis’s voice.

Apart from that though I didn’t have much that I found interesting. I feel like having the explosion of the boat was a bit much and didn’t really fit with Wallace and Gromit. And I didn’t like how it was Wallace not believing Gromit again. It felt just repetitive.

There were elements of the plot that reminded me of things from prior specials. Obviously Feathers McGraw made his return. His use of hijacking Wallace’s inventions. The mechanical trousers and then the Norbots. And while it wasn’t hijacking in A Close Shave. The Norbots when they were evil, really reminded me of Preston in A Close Shave with him being evil. it’s still weird for me to see all those extra background people. I’m use to the streets being barren with no people and just the houses and other shops.

As stated prior the thing I didn’t like the most was Wallace not believing Gromit. By this point it’s repetitive. Sure in A Close Shave, Wallace believed Gromit had done the sheep rustling. But he felt really upset and genuinely cared enough to go and break him out of prison. Whereas in Vengeance Most Fowl Wallace was really dismissive of Gromit up until like the final 10 minutes.

And with the way that everyone thought Wallace had been stealing peoples things, I thought it was going to be similar to A Close Shave where Gromit briefly went to prison because Preston framed him. But instead of Gromit, it would be Wallace going to prison. Feathers is definitely smart enough to be able to frame Wallace, like Preston. It would’ve been fun to see another prison break with Gromit breaking Wallace out of prison. The finale with the canal boats with super cool though.

I don’t know what they’re planning to do with Feathers McGraw after this. By now he’s actually been the main villain three times in the Wallace and Gromit series. Including the game Project Zoo. He gets away in this special so are they thinking of him bringing back in a potential future special or just never bringing him back. Because by now I think he’s the only Wallace and Gromit villain to still be around and evil. Preston obviously got minced up then rebuilt to be hood again. Piella got eaten. And Victor got chased away by the towns folk. Anyway if they do make another in like 10 years, it’ll be interesting to see what they come up with.

Also a very very minor nitpick that makes me sound like a massive snob, but the diamond wasn’t blue in the original. It’s a clear diamond, so I wonder why that was changed. Because the diamond couldn’t have been swapped with them being two different colours.

Overall though I’d give it a 7/10 and it’s worth watching. Especially if you’re a Wallace and Gromit fan.
