Background

Alison is from a middle-class family. Both her parents work and aren't home very often. She has no siblings, so she is by herself on most days. While her parents are gone, she goes around town and does errands. When she's done taking care of those, she goes back home to cook, clean, and take care of anything else. She's learned to become independent at a young age, given her parents' absence.

Growing up, she was shy and timid, but well liked among her classmates. Unfortunately, (to her at least) she never had a boyfriend. She had crushes on many boys at school, but she was never in a relationship. But she isn't naive in regards to them, she knows a lot. She knows what a lover should and shouldn't do. Her knowledge stems from her friends' personal experiences and from the media she watches.

Given that platonic love from parents and romantic love was absent in her life. She doesn't know how to manage meaningful relationships. Friendships were her only form of any type of love, but that love soon leaves. Given that after graduating high school, she stopped talking to her friends.

Even though her knowledge is quite extensive given that she was never in a relationship before, she didn't understand it fully. She believes that a lover should be clingy. To always be by their lover's side, even though that type of advice only leads to an unhealthy dependency. She's been independent for practically her whole life. Why can't she just depend on one person? She sees nothing wrong with her way of loving.

Strength

Given that Alison has a more malicious side to her, she is able to cover this up with ease. She naturally falls into the archetype of a shy, timed girlfriend who is overly clingy. Something that isn't seen as wrong in front of the masses. Letting her get away from any consequences that her actions might cause.

A Partly Rainy Thursday

Thursday’s blood sugar was back up a bit, to 172. Again, it could be because I had no more of the one prescription to take last night. Or, I guess, it could have been something I ate during the day. There was no lack of walking, to be sure.

After we had our coffee and brain games this morning, we opted for something simple for breakfast, since an early lunch was planned. So I had a bagel with cream cheese and Nancy ate an English muffin with just butter. A bit later, the mailman delivered the new bathroom shelving unit we ordered the other day.

Just about 11:30 a.m. we met up with Nancy’s siblings Robin and Joan at McMenamins North Bank for lunch. It was raining when we finished, so Nancy and I cancelled our plans to go for a walk and came home.

Two more shirts I had ordered from Amazon arrived in the mail by the time we got home. They are the same brand as the one I tried first, which was a good enough design and fit that it was worth getting two others. The first one was a rose color, while the new shirts are blue and caramel.

After a nap, the weather had dried out and warmed up sufficiently for a short walk. We made a circuit of about 1.4 miles through the neighborhood on the north side of Thurston and into and around the magnolia garden.

After the walk, we set up new bathroom shelf which is much more sturdy than the simple little metallic version we first purchased after moving in. For one thing, we had not bothered to attach the shelf to the wall, and the toilet seat banged into the bottom shelf whenever it was raised.

The new shelf uses two poles which run from floor to ceiling and uses springs to hold them in place, then the shelves attach to the poles via locking mechanisms. And the four shelves can hold much more than the three on the previous model.

I went to the Thursday recovery meeting. The weather was sufficiently cool that no loud fans were necessary to stir the air and disrupt the sharing. The reading was about “new horizons,” which certainly does connect with our new life here in Oregon, and the new fellowship I have discovered since moving here.

My dinner was a small serving of the enchilada casserole, heated in the microwave, and coated with sour cream. Nancy had her own serving of it while I was away at the meeting.

Our evening’s entertainment was Colbert and the next episode of “Under the Vines,” which wraps up with next week’s sixth episode. We hope it will return for another season, because it doesn’t seem like one more show can possibly tie up all the loose ends.

The New Guardian

New story idea I’m trying. I thought of this back in October and have been writing it since then. It’s very different from my past works and I’ve added a lot of characters and plots that are completely my own. I love reviews and comments. I’ll be posting updates daily.

Story Summary: Marinette Dupain-Cheng is an adult in the real world, guarding the Miracle Box in Master Fu's place. She's in love with Chat Noir, but refuses to tell him her feelings. New holders appear to fight the duo and shake up their lives. Marinette makes a tough decision about her future as Ladybug.

Chapter 3: The First Encounter

Marinette laid asleep on her bed, kwamis around her, passed out. Her earrings started to vibrate like a phone, waking her. She rolled over, ignoring them as she tried to stay asleep.

"Marinette!" Tikki called, flying in front of her. "Chat Noir is trying to call you."

"Let it go to voicemail. I'll get it later." She groaned. The kwamis flew up.

"But what if it's important?" Tikki whined.

"Ugh, fine." Marinette shot up and stood on her bed as it bounced. "Tikki, Spots On!"

She transformed and pulled out her yo-yo. One new voicemail from Chat Noir. She clicked on it.

"Good evening, M'Lady, I hope you're having a nice day so far, but we have a few visitors waiting for us by the Seine." His voice spoke. "A trail of spikes are scattered in the street, blocking traffic, so I'm assuming they're trying to make a scene similar to yesterday's. And without knowing their demands, it might me best not to keep them waiting much longer."

The message ended and Ladybug groaned. "Of course."

Ladybug followed the trail of spikes and found Chat Noir standing in a defense pose on one side of the road with three unknown heroes on the other side. One sat on a lamppost, another laid on a bench, and Ginger stood with her hand on her hip. Marinette landed next to Chat Noir.

"Took you long enough." The one on the lamppost said. The other on the bench sat up.

"Why are you guys just staring at each other?" Ladybug whispered. 

"They insisted we wait for you." Chat answered without breaking eye contact.

"Oh. Why? What are they waiting for me for?" She scanned them.

"I don't know." Chat replied.

"We're not here to fight you today." The one on the lamppost said. She had loose, mid-length, black hair with dark pink highlights and dark eyes. She wore a pink and black outfit that matched her hair. She had a mysterious sword-like spike on each arm and leg. They looked as if they almost grew out of her skin.

The one that laid on the bench was a man dressed in purple. His outfit was very similar to Chat Noir's but without the bell. He had dark brown hair, blue eyes, and dark skin. Each one of them seemed like normal miraculous holders, but they all looked like warriors.

"It's nice to see you again, Ladybug." Ginger smiled.

"Wait, so we aren't fighting?" Chat straightened.

"Why are you guys here?" Ladybug asked. "I see you brought friends, Ginger."

"We have questions for you and to make it fair, we will tell you about us. Deal?" Ginger said. "But . . . if you don't cooperate, we will use force."

"We already know about your miraculous, but we'll tell you about ours." The man said.

"I'm the lily miraculous holder." Ginger said. "You already know my hero name is Ginger. I have the power of pollen. Pollen stains." She looked at the bottom of her foot. "It's practically paint as you've probably already noticed."

"I'm Magenta." The woman on the lamppost said. "I'm the rose miraculous holder. I have the power of thorns. They're sharp, they can stab things, they can cut things . . . you get the point."

The man on the bench crossed his arms. "I'm Lavender and I'm the lavender miraculous holder. It's pretty straightforward. I can calm you down and make you fall asleep instantly."

"Our powers are from the Gardenia Miracle box." Ginger said. "We've gone through years of training in order to get the opportunity to even be considered for a miraculous. It wasn't handed to us so easily like you two. We had to earn ours and with them, we are sent on missions."

Magenta rolled her eyes. "We are sent on missions, Ginger, not you. This is your first one and you barely qualified."

"I'm still a part of the team, Magenta." Ginger's eyebrow twitched.

"You're only 18 and you're new. We are not a team."

"Well yes, but if you count that us three and the temple were gone for 172 years, then I'm actually 190 years old." Ginger turned around. "And I graduated at the top of my class and was given my miraculous instantly. I'm just as qualified as you and Lavender."

"If you were as great, you wouldn't be graduating with your class." Magenta growled. "You'd surpass them enough to leave them years earlier."

"Sorry, not everyone is a prodigy like you." Ginger shrugged.

"Enough you too." Lavender stood up. "If you two would stop fighting, maybe we could finish this." He turned to Ladybug and Chat Noir. "Your miraculous are all different. The Ladybug has earrings and the Black Cat has a ring. All of us from our Miracle box have rings; the same type." All three held up their hand. "They look like diamond wedding rings right now, but when we aren't transformed, they just look like cheap candy machine rings. Each one is a different color, hence why our names are colors."

"So . . . are you good or bad?" Chat asked, Ladybug hitting him in the arm.

"We can be either." Lavender answered. "Whatever our mission is and whatever is approved by the council of guardians determines that."

"So far, no, but if you don't comply with our wishes, we'll be Paris's new Hawkmoth and Mayura." Magenta smirked. "Your master already let this city down by losing a few miraculouses, which it turn resulted in those two villains. It's funny how he brings this city such harm even after his death."

"He doesn-" Ladybug stopped herself, her eye twitching. "What wishes? We don't owe you anything."

"Which one of you is the new guardian?" Ginger asked, neither moving.

Chat Noir seemed to lean more towards Ladybug. Magenta squinted her eyes before swiping her hand over her forearm, launching a spike. Chat Noir jumped in front of Ladybug and hit the spike to the ground with his baton. Another one grew on Magenta's arm to replace it.

"It's her." Magenta straightened.

"So what if I am?" Ladybug glared. "What do you want with me?

"The Miracle Box." Ginger answered. "We need it and both of your miraculous. It's that simple."

"And why would we do that?" Chat asked. "I kind of like destroying things."

"It's not up for debate." Lavender said. "They don't belong to you and they never have. You must give them back."

"The council wants the entire box back and you have no right to keep them from us." Magenta said. "If you will not listen, we will take them by force."

"Looks like we'll be fighting after all then." Chat smirked.

"Bring it on kitty cat." Lavender smirked, walking forward.

"Lavender!" Ginger yelled. He stopped. "Not today." He glared. "Ladybug and Chat Noir, you will see us again . . . and Ladybug . . . you will surrender."

"That won't happen." Ladybug insisted.

"We'll see." Ginger said before running away.

Magenta snapped her fingers and the spikes disappeared. The other two left. Ladybug turned to Chat Noir to see him holding his fist out.

"Pound it." He said, stepping closer.

"We didn't even do anything."

"It's our mission." He smiled. "And we didn't necessarily lose."

Ladybug smiled. "Pound it." Her fist hit his. It had been so long since they'd done that. It brought back so many memories.

"Alright, I gotta get home. Keep the Miracle Box locked up." Chat said, backing away. "Sleep with one eye open incase those three have some secret plan."

"I will, Chat Noir."

"Stay safe."

They both split.

Adrien grabbed a glass and opened his fridge for some grape juice. His room had been remodeled after he graduated, so now, he has a mini kitchen. Since he stood up to his father and they now co-manage the Agreste brand, he hasn't had much time to play foosball and watch every movie ever made. Besides managing, he designs apparel and continues modeling, but on his own terms.

Plagg flew over. "So you got to see Ladybug again?"

"It's not the that big of a deal, Plagg." Adrien took a sip.

He opened the cheese cabinet. "I haven't heard you flirt yet and that's kind of scary, so something's wrong."

"Nothing's wrong. I just don't know if I should. We're adults now." Adrien took another drink. "Ladybug might just think I'm immature for that. I've had a crush on her since I was fourteen. It's highly unrealistic that we'd ever be together let alone her have any feelings for me."

"But you still like her." Plagg joked.

"I do." Adrien sat down. "But after Kagami and I dated . . . I realized . . . I only ever truly loved Ladybug. She was the one." He sighed. "But she never liked me."

Gas Giant Classification System

Note: this is a modified version of the Sudarsky Gas Giant Classification System, which is a system proposed by David Sudarsky to classify gas giant planets, such as Jupiter and Saturn.

The system that Sudarsky created classifies gas giant planets based off of the temperature of the planet’s atmosphere’s at 1 bar pressure, and the primary chemical that comprises the planet’s cloud decks. His original system contained 5 different types of gas giants: Ammonia, Water, Cloudless, Alkali Metal, and Silicate Clouds)

I have decided to amend his original classification system to include three additional types of gas planets (Nitrogen-Oxygen, Methane, and Carbon), and I believe this system should apply generally to ice giants as well. These modifications cover more types of gaseous planets under a greater range of temperatures and compositions. Again credit to the original idea is given to David Sudarsky.

Type Ib: Nitrogen-Oxygen Class Gas/ Ice Giant

Nitrogen-Oxygen Gas/Ice Giants are the coldest types of gaseous planet. They have atmospheric temperatures of less than 40 K, (-388 °F) at 1 bar pressure. These planets have atmospheric temperatures low enough that oxygen and nitrogen condense into liquid droplets and ice crystals, and at lower depths in the atmosphere it rains liquid nitrogen and oxygen. In hydrogen depleted gas/ ice giants, the cloud decks may even be composed of crystals and droplets of carbon monoxide.

These planets have a primarily deep blue color, with dull gray/blue cloud bands. The blue color of the atmosphere is due to the presence of liquid nitrogen and oxygen lower in the atmosphere which scatters blue light. Gaseous planets of this class planets are relatively rare. Gas giants of this class only exist if they are extremely old (8+ Billion years) and orbit far from their parent star. Most gas giants emit enough internal heat to be too warm to fit this class, given the age of the universe. Ice giants of this class would be more common due to their smaller size and smaller reservoirs of internal heat. Rogue ice giants occupy most planets of this class.

Type Ia: Methane Class Gas/Ice Giant

Methane Class Gas/Ice Giants occupy a temperature range between 40 K and 90 K (-388 °F and -298 °F). These planet’s have atmospheric temperatures that support the formation of methane clouds. Methane is the primary light scattering chemical which gives the planet a deep blue to cyan color. Examples of this class include both Neptune and Uranus.

Methane Class gas planets orbit far from their parent stars, and often emit as much heat as they receive from the sun. Atmospheric activity is driven almost entirely by internally released heat. Planet’s with less heat often appear bland and almost featureless (i.e. Uranus), while planets that emit significant internal heat, show more pronounced cloud bands and even large cyclonic systems (i.e. Neptune). The hue of the planet is believed to be determined by how much methane is in the atmosphere.

Type I: Ammonia Class Gas/Ice Giant (Original Sudarsky Type I)

Ammonia Class Gas/Ice Giants occupy a temperature range between 90 K and 160 K (-298 °F and -172 °F). These planet’s have atmospheres dominated by ammonia ice crystals. Ammonia is the primary light scattering compound that often gives these planets a brownish hue. Temperatures are warm enough in the atmosphere for complex chemistry to occur, including for formation of tholins and other complex hydrocarbons, along with various other chemical compounds dredged up through convection from the interior. Cloud bands may take on numerous colors including: brown, white, red, orange and yellow.

Ammonia Gas giants include both the planets Jupiter and Saturn. The atmosphere of an ammonia gas planet is extremely turbulent and active due to the increased solar radiation. These planets typically orbit just beyond a star systems frost line (the temperature at which ice will not sublimate in a vacuum), but not far enough for methane clouds form.

Type II: Water Class Gas/Ice Giant (Original Sudarsky Type II)

Water Class Gas/Ice Giants occupy a temperature range between 160 K and 250 K (-172 °F and -10 °F). These planets have atmospheres dominated by water-ice crystals, and their atmosphere experiences liquid water rain at lower depths. If a gaseous planet were to support aerial life, Type II planets would be the perfect candidate. Water-Ice reflects a lot of the sunlight making these planets extremely bright with high reflective albedos.

No Water Class Gas or Ice giants exist within the solar system, but examples include: Upsilon Andromedae D or PH2B. Type II planets orbit from the middle of the habitable zone out to the edge of the frost line. Type II gaseous planets orbiting within a system’s habitable zone may have large Earth-like satellites in orbit that are capable of supporting life.

Type IIa: Sulfur Class Gas/Ice Giant

Sulfur Class Gas/Ice Giants occupy a temperature range between 250 K and 350 K (-10 °F and 170 °F). These planets have atmospheres dominated by hydrogen sulfide and sulfur. Cloud decks are composed of crystals of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur-dust. These planets have complex upper atmospheric chemistry dominated by sulfur bearing compounds, and have a composition similar to the clouds of Venus. Atomic sulfur dust in the atmosphere gives the planet’s a distinct yellow hue, and is the result of ultraviolet radiation breaking down hydrogen sulfide though a process called photodissociation.

Sulfur Class Gas/Ice Giants orbit between the center of a system’s habitable zone and a system’s Venus Zone. The atmosphere’s of Type IIa planets are extremely active which cyclonic systems, sharp cloud bands, and chaotic polar regions. As with Type II Gas/Ice Giants, Type IIa planets orbiting within a system’s habitable zone may support Earth-like moons in orbit.

Type III: Cloudless Glass Gas/Ice Giant (Original Sudarsky Type III)

Cloudless Class Gas/Ice Giants occupy a temperature range between 350 K and 800 K (170 °F and 980 °F). These planets have atmospheres that do not lie within a temperature range of any common compounds to exist as either ice crystals of liquid droplets. Methane deep in the atmosphere give the planets a blueish green hue from the scattering of blue light. Due to the lack of clouds, the banding is faint and muted in appearance. Varying concentrations of sulfides and chlorides between the individual weather zones give each band a slightly different hue. If high concentrations of sulfur are present, these planets may take on a violet or purple color from the formation of diatomic sulfur molecules.

Cloudless Class Gas/Ice Giants orbit between roughly a mercury equivalent orbit and the inner edge of the Venus Zone. The atmosphere despite it’s faded appearance, experiences powerful winds and extremely stormy weather. Roughly half of these type of planets orbit close enough to their parent stars to be tidally locked.

Type IV: Alkali Metal Class Gas/Ice Giant (Original Sudarsky Type IV)

Alkali Metal Class Gas/Ice Giants occupy a temperature range between 800 K and 1,400 K (980 °F and 2,060 °F). At these temperatures carbon monoxide becomes the dominate carbon-carrying molecule instead of methane. Metals such as sodium and potassium become more common in the atmosphere, condensing into cloud decks. Additionally clouds containing titanium dioxide and vanadium oxide may also form. Type IV planets typically have a monochromatic color, but some may have hues of dark green or dark red, depending on the composition of the clouds. Most have a very low reflective albedo, reflecting less than 5% of the sunlight they receive.

Alkali Metal Class Gas/Ice Giants orbit close to their parent stars, and most are tidally locked to their sun. Extremely violent weather occurs within the atmosphere, and most experience wind speeds of over 1,000 mph. The increased heat also increases the overall diameter of the planet; therefore, Type IV planets are often larger than Types Ib - Type III of the same mass.

Type V: Ferro-Silicate Class Gas/Ice Giant (Original Sudarsky Type V)

Ferro-Sillicate Class Gas/Ice Giants occupy a temperature range between 1,400 K and 2,800 K (2,060 °F and 4,580 °F). These planets are viewed of as the traditional examples of either a Hot Jupiter or Hot Neptune. Temperatures are hot enough that cloud decks of silicates and iron form in the upper atmosphere. It is not uncommon for molten iron and molten glass rain to occur within the atmosphere. The color of these planets varies wildly depending on whether silicates or iron are more common. Type V planets with silicates dominating the cloud decks will appear bright azure blue in color from liquid droplets of glass scattering blue light. Type V planets where iron dominates the cloud decks will have a more gray-red color. The atmosphere is so hot that it glows a dull red.

Ferro-Silicate Gas/Ice Giants orbit very close to their parent stars with orbital periods of a few days or less and are tidally locked to the sun. Their diameters are puffed up by the intense solar radiation, and the planets often have unusually low average densities, lower than that of even Saturn. Weather is wild in the atmosphere, with winds blowing in excess of 2,000 mph. The winds are so fast and transport heat so efficiently that the night side is almost as hot as the day side despite being in perpetual darkness. A prime example of this planet type would be 51 Pegasi B. (Note this was the first type of planet discovered orbiting a sun-like star outside of our solar system). Due to the close proximity to their parent stars, these planets are constantly loosing atmospheric gasses, and appear almost comet-like from the distance.

Type VI: Carbon Class Gas/Ice Giant

Carbon Class Gas/Ice giants occupy a temperature range above 2,800 K (4,580 °F), and are considered to be the rarest type of planet. These planets have cloud decks composed of carbon. Cloud decks of solid carbon crystals will be composed of graphite, while at deeper depths liquid diamond rain will occur. Above 2,800 K most chemical compounds break down into their constituent elements, and the atmosphere of these planets have more in common with that of a star than a planet. The atmosphere is primarily black in color, reflecting less than 1% of the light the planet receives. The planet is only visible because temperatures are hot enough that the atmosphere and clouds glow dim red in color.

Type VI planets orbit close enough to their parent stars that they have orbital periods of less than a day, are tidally locked to the sun, and lose thousands of tons of their atmospheres every second. Very weird chemical reactions occur at the boundary line with the night side, where chemicals such as water are broken into hydrogen and oxygen during the day, and re-condense into water vapor at night. Ice giants of this class would only be short-lived since they are not massive enough to retain their hydrogen-helium atmospheres for more than a few tens of millions of years. Carbon-Class Gas giants can be the largest planets in terms of diameter, their size extremely bloated by intense solar radiation.

This is merely my input on classifying giant type planets, which I use in my hobby of designing my own star systems. If anyone has anything to add, please feel free to do so.

~PERSONALITY~

Overall: Raiden is outgoing and very out there. He’s loud, warm, and overall just nice to be around. Although he can be a bit suggestive/flirty, which he gets a bit of crap for. However, he doesn’t go so far that he begins to become creepy. Raiden can also be really calm in nature; which can be unnerving at times due to how unnatural it seems. He is also compassionate and kind, usually to his friends and family. When he is angry, however, he gets very emotional and violent. He usually takes out his frustrations out on objects but he will hurt people too depending on the situation. After he’s done being pissy, however, he will not speak and will only look at someone if they’re trying to talk to him. Raiden at times can also go into these depressive states. This is because of the amount of guilt he holds and often blames himself for not preventing any of this. He also tends to hide things at times, when he feels like it is necessary for only him to know something. He also owns up on things he believes is his fault.

How he acts around strangers: Raiden is polite and warm to new people. Although it really depends on the age on how exactly he’ll act. With older adults, he is more reserved and a little timid for a while but eventually opens up a little. But with people around his age, he tends to be more outgoing and treats said person like they are friends. (Whether it’s a good or bad thing lmao)
