Danny knew that he couldn’t let himself lose control.

Ever since Vlad had gone too far, and he had lost his family, he had to remind himself that things were going to be better, to have some hope for the future.

It didn’t seem to matter when he was filled with such all-consuming rage though.

Still, he found a couple of magic rings. He hates wearing them, they hurt so much, but he needs the power boost they give him.

He will not fail again.

(Or; Danny is both so angry, yet has such hope for his future that both a Red and a Blue Lantern Ring choose him at the same time.)

I really wish DC would give us a blue lantern comic. There's just so much potential.

You could have a civilian become so inspired and hopeful from the presence of a green lantern in their region that a blue ring chooses them. This gives your blue lantern all the fancy powers from the start.

Or you could give someone a blue lantern ring without a local green lantern, and theyd still get the flight, force field that protects them from space, and a universal translator. This allows for the hero to grow in power later, but they can still be a small time hero at the start.

You could tackle depression and anxiety and how they affect hope and hopelessness. You can give these to your blue lantern and then make incredibly solid representation of the treatments for them. Like, imagine your hero's ability to fight being so strongly tied to their mental health? AND it could be inspirational for those of us with those conditions to gain or maintain hope, or to seek out treatment that works for us individually. And beyond the representation, it would allow for so many avenues to create conflicts and drive the story forward.

There's just so much potential there and it kills me that it's not being fully utilized

idk a lot about Thomas Kalmaku. I know the basics, like his Inuit heritage (which meant, for decades, writers referred to him by the racist nickname "Pieface").

I know what I read from the '80s NEW GUARDIANS comic (wherein he was stated to have the latent metahuman superpower to "bring out the best in people", which I take to mean superhuman psychic power to inspire hope and/or awaken potential; he was intended to help lead mankind, but denied that destiny to stay with his family).

And though he still isn't a superhero himself, Tom is a long-time friend of Hal Jordan, found inspiration in him & at one point, has expressed interest in being a Green Lantern.

If ever DC Comics decides to introduce an Earth-based Blue Lantern (the Lantern Corp whose color is tied to hope), it should definitely be Thomas Kalmaku.

The Green Lantern franchise is one of those series that was just MADE for easy self inserts and OCs. Especially after they added the other lantern corps

Other Superhero fandoms: Ugh, I gotta pick a name, outfit, and superpowers for my character, along with my backstory

Green Lantern: All right, here's your superhero name, overpowered set of super powers depending on the color ring, the color palette for your outfit, and we gave you a prompt to inspire your backstory and personality (Willpower, love, hope, fear, rage, etc). You can handle the rest.

Makoto but he gets a hold of a blue lantern ring.

Aka the ring of hope.

And it's fitting not just for that.

The blue lantern corps were created by exiled guardians wanting to reform the green lantern corps.

They can remove rage from a person by empowering them with hope. And make yellow rings (fear) ineffective.

And are the most difficult ring to master.

... And if that doesn't fit Makoto I dunno what does.

Even the fact blue rings need a green ring (willpower) on their side, coincides with Makoto finding his strength in his friends.

Makoto: a blue lantern ring pops on his finger, and he somehow knows what to do In fearful day, in raging night, with strong hearts full, our souls ignite.
