Near @fremonthighoakland where @realsway @icecube @soulbeattv & mayor @libbyschaaf spoke to youth as part of the ceremony... I, like Short went to #FremontHighSchool (Along w many other Rap, Education,Activist,Business,Film & Sports legends) Of course I went to #Fremont way after since I'm younger &grew up on Short music pretty much my whole life "Since the Foothill bus # 43" Ogs w/ 📻 bumping my fave song #Dopefiendbeat on Ac Transit Many in this era know him for his favorite word & Sex filled Club,Party hits but growing up in #TheTown we got the full #ShortDog experience w The Live Funk band, #DangerousCrew We saw & learned up close. He had lots of deep songs & spit raw rhymes about a special city that needed a voice & Narrarator. Short explained social issues of Northern Cali in times when Hip Hop was mostly New York voices. He did for the O what Nwa did for Compton. Geto Boys for Houston etc. He added a new dimension & perspective. Rapping about our neighborhoods & Doing videos w future Oakland stars and real live people from the streets as the extras. Most of all he #Dontstoprappin Short put alot of people on too (Directly & Indirectly) I cant even name them all,but even Alot of my Rap career,Oakland pride & national respect,rap energy & opportunities comes from this Raw blueprint.I had the privilege of opening up or sharing stage at so many of his shows from early in the local come up to big events in diff states. This world is not safe

Never has been

Never was

It wasn’t safe when mama was raped at the age of 15

It wasn’t safe when slavery happened

It wasn’t safe when I was almost kidnapped, more than once

I told the man it wasn’t safe and it’s the reason why I never had kids and never will

His weak reply was, “But that’s not a reason to not have kids.”

Um, sir

That’s  exactly a reason not to have kids

You’re conscious of how fucked up this world is

That there are fathers out there sexually abusing their own kids

Your parents did it to you

And it happened to them and the ones before them and down the line

Yet you still brought kids here

I am tired of people having such a weak reply

Looking at me like I’m the crazy one for preventing more pain

It’s a cycle

Do you not see that?

We have terrorists in our own country

We have people defending child predators

We have people defending rapists

We have religions enabling abuse and mental turmoil

Sexism and religious trauma

After the things that happened to me

The things that this world can’t get a handle on

Because even the police are guilty of abusing their own

Why would I EVER allow myself to get pregnant?

It’s foolishness if you ask me

But no one wants to be real about this

No one wants to be honest and admit that we, the human race, have lost control

We are the reason why this world is so evil

I am not weird or strange for having the self-control to prevent my body from procreating

I would feel guilty for consciously bringing an innocent child into the world

That my parents couldn’t protect me from

They allowed their GOD to compel them to have kids

A figure that has no form of evidence to prove it even exists

Clearly it does not exist because it sits back and watches

As men abuse their strength against women and children

As women allow their boyfriends to rape their children

A woman can’t answer her door anymore if someone knocks on it

Because traffickers are getting away with stealing them from safety

Why did she allow herself to marry and procreate

After the sexual trauma she experienced in her youth?

And to raise her children now with a coldness from within her

Brought on by the trauma she refuses to deal with

It is not right what happened to her and any of us

And it is not right to tough it up and go on with life as if nothing happened

I am angry that I was brought into this garbage world

With no savior to prevent weak men and mothers from harming their children

and repeating the sick cycle of abuse that is now out of control

I will do everything in my power to ring the alarm and put more men and women behind bars

Maybe it’s on me to do the right thing

Since no one else is strong enough

Time to turn this anger and resentment into courage

And put the real demons behind bars for life

One Piece - Cute Chopper and whistle scene

Happy 23rd Birthday to One Piece!

This scene had me in tears. Chopper is one of my favorites. Initially for his love of medicine but more importantly due to his mental fight with confidence. His mind is a bigger battlefield than what they face on a regular. He still puts in plenty effort but in the end, as shown by this scene (with added context), he knows his constraints.
