Is it a raid, is it a drugs bust?

Risking life and limb we venture onto another bus. This time the driver is much more sedate as we make a gentle journey to Kudawella and the Hoo-maniya blowhole.

Pausing for a moment in a shady cafe before the walk up to the blowhole we are accosted by the local police. Is it a raid, is it a drugs bust, is it a super charged Ford Mustang? No, it's an embarrassed looking Copper in his underpowered Police Tuktuk. There is nothing much of anything else at Kudawella apart from the blowhole, this cafe and a huge unfinished and abandoned hotel complex now occupied by squatters who nobody seems to bother about.

We pay for a foreigner’s ticket, of course, and walk up to the viewpoint and the blowhole. The blowhole is formed from a deep, narrow fissure in the rocks which funnels the sea up into jets reaching 15m in height. Sadly, when we were there the tide was in but we waited fifteen minutes to see a puff about 10’ high.

A very tatty Visitor Centre gives some information about the blowhole, marine life and marine/environmental conservation in the area. What we leaned today is that a blue whale’s tongue weighs in heavier than an elephant. Sharks pre-date dinosaurs. Octopi will sacrifice a limb to escape a predator knowing that it will grow back.

The bus back is entertaining as we share it with children on their way home from school. The girls in their spotless white uniforms, the boys with their red elasticated ties.

In the evening our lovely hosts invite us for a meal. Delivered to our balcony, enjoyed in the warm evening air and serenaded by the chatter of monkeys and bird song. We are served fish, jackfruit, green beans, okra, rice and popadams.  Delicious. The jackfruit was the best ever.

Ask time! How tricky did you find it to come up with characterization for Dr. Blowhole? I've had to do a lot of thinking for my OWN version of him since we only see the guy in three specials, and we only get small hints of what he's like here and there outside of being evil lol. As opposed to Kowalski, who we always see, giving us plenty of time to get to know him.

It started with I would rp as Kowalski with a really good Blowhole rper friend of mine. I absolutely loved their headcanons and how they characterized him, so many of their theories I adopted into my personal theories too and just added to that as I rewarched the episodes and paid close attention to not just himself and his actions but also to the others who interact with or mention him. Little bits and pieces of stuff about him is sprinkled around the series as a whole (and a promo).

I also add to my characterization with dolphin biology research. I have a background in biology and wildlife biology so I have a strong draw to researching related stuff for fun. (I also put a lot of biology research based characterization into how I write the penguins too).
