As I’ve been getting back into writing a new chapter for A Scientific Devotion, it’s made me think a bit about why I enjoy this ship and story to begin with.

I think it mainly falls back to (aside from just being fun to write), the concept that love requires work and effort for both parties involved.

Is it easy dating your enemy? No. There’s all sorts of speed bumps and hiccups you run into… But if you really do care for each other, you find ways to put that conscious effort into the choices you make to try to make it work. Sometimes that requires compromise, change, or compassion on your part, sometimes on your partner’s side as that balance is looked for and reached.

Love is never a walk in the park, it always requires effort, be in romantic, platonic, or familial. It’s just more obvious and in your face when it comes to a hero x villain ship because they have to put a LOT of work into stuff if they want to make it work.

As well as that thought that, someone can love all sides of you, from you at your best, to your darker shadows too.

So…If you ever wonder why I keep going back to this villainous dolphin and nerdy penguin soap opera, now you know.

(But also yes, they’re fun to write)

Ask time! How tricky did you find it to come up with characterization for Dr. Blowhole? I've had to do a lot of thinking for my OWN version of him since we only see the guy in three specials, and we only get small hints of what he's like here and there outside of being evil lol. As opposed to Kowalski, who we always see, giving us plenty of time to get to know him.

It started with I would rp as Kowalski with a really good Blowhole rper friend of mine. I absolutely loved their headcanons and how they characterized him, so many of their theories I adopted into my personal theories too and just added to that as I rewarched the episodes and paid close attention to not just himself and his actions but also to the others who interact with or mention him. Little bits and pieces of stuff about him is sprinkled around the series as a whole (and a promo).

I also add to my characterization with dolphin biology research. I have a background in biology and wildlife biology so I have a strong draw to researching related stuff for fun. (I also put a lot of biology research based characterization into how I write the penguins too).

So more than likely I'm going to be pulling an all nighter tonight, may try to work on tag games if the car ride will cooperate with me later.
