Random Bloodstar info, for those who aren't members of Pawstep Pathway:

He's very young for a leader (about 25 moons old), and he was unexpectedly thrust into the position after the death of the previous leader and deputy. Until then, he pretty much avoided his clanmates (which wasn't all that hard to do because many of them shunned him for fear that he was cursed), and he didn't have any friends in HollowClan to speak of.

Because he's so young and he never had much social interaction growing up, he possesses almost none of the qualities a good leader should have. Trying to make the right choices is difficult for a cat who was never involved with his clan beyond hunting and patrolling.

Right now, there's a murderer on the loose in HollowClan, and the clan is on edge- no one knows who to trust. Bloodstar barely knows his clanmates, and he has no idea who the murderer could be, but he's decided that when he catches them, he's not going to afford them any mercy.

Bloodstar head cannon

So after completing the quest A Plague for Angels( where you kill the Plaguebearers), Maximillian Strauss and he will offer either cash ( he doen’t tell you how much but its $350) or this occult item called a Bloodstar. The in game description is:

All Kindred have the innate power to push their undead bodies to the height of mortal capacity, but only for a moment and at a dire cost of blood. This eldritch talisman was crafted to boost this ability. Blood Buff has twice the duration.

But to me I was always kind of suspicious when playing any clan besides a tremere as to why he’d give this to you even if it’s a super useful item. It does does work as intended but I always felt like it was also probably functioning as bloodstone (a blood magic fueled tracking device) which would allow him to track the Neonate’s location. His interest in you is definitely due to his dislike of Lacriox as Prince, as he’s for sure giving the Camarilla of LA a bad name/image in Strauss’ eyes.  I know in game his interest in the player regardless of clan is so that you can get the Camarilla ending but I like coming up with in game explanations for things and why else would he give a non-tremere a cryptic riddle on how to find the chantry which he had deliver during your first day sleep so that on your second night (I’m counting the night your embraced as your first) you will see it but this is before you’ve done anything really noteworthy besides 1) Avoided your head being cut off because because Nines called Lacroix out who had to spare you to try and save face 2)survived a Sabbot shovel head attack 3)made it to Santa Monica without breaking the masquerade or running to the cops with the last two being because of Jacks help/babysitting. But even when you’ve done enough on your own without help too get to down town and have finished the job for him I’m not sure why he’d offer something like the Bloodstar to a still unofficial kindred( you get presented when you officially become the most basic/lowest member/subject in the Camarilla so not sure if the correct term is unpresented ?) neonate without it also being a way to keep tabs on you. if your not playing as a tremere then him asking others about the Neonate and what you have been doing would probably come off as super suspicious, especially when he can’t use the excuse of wanting to make sure you stay alive long enough to complete the job of dealing with the Plaguebearers that are breaking the masquerade bad enough to have brought the CDC to town. So it makes sense to me that he’d offer the bloodstar as a reward for the first job you do for him as you’ve proven your actually usefully enough to be worth keeping tabs on. A Bloodstone is cheaper and safer then paying another kindred to physically follow you every night where there is more of a risk of them being discovered and traced back to him. Also on the white wolf wiki it states that for bloodstones “ Most Kindred with a passing familiarity with the occult (Occult 2) will recognize such a stone easily”which only strengthens my head cannon it’s a bloodstone as the player is to young and too green/doesn’t have any coterie to warn you too even know that this is a thing trememe could do. Blood stones are so basic I assume it is probably something most kindred will have heard enough about tremeres and there skills with blood magic that I assume even if they don’t have the skills to figure out if something was a blood stone/don’t know that’s a thing tremor can make they probably wouldn’t accept any kind of magically infused blood red stone or crystal from tremere that they didn’t have ample reason to trust (like a couture member) or have someone they trust to check it for them. I don’t think that a old, secretive, high ranking (in terms of both his clan and the Camarilla) tremere like Strauss would fall into the “trusted tremere” category for a lot of non-tremere kindred , especially one who only meet him a few days ago and have only done one job for him. Not to say that I don’t like his character or don’t appreciate what the bloodstar does in game but posting about my overthought meta headcanons is fun for me.

Albums of the Week! The top spot goes to Haunt’s wonderful new album, Golden Arm. When you hear this, pay close attention to the guitars. The reverence, adulation, and proficiency of the craft is on full display here. It’s an absolute delight. Khemmis just released a 2-track single, which is great and reminded me to put Deceiver on repeat. Blood Star’s debut is still hitting hard, and Undeath’s new live record riddles my body with joy. Finally, don’t sleep on Afsky.
