Thought I’d do something like this a few times a year where I rec fics I’ve read. Not all of these I read this year, but for my first rec post, thought I’d just share some of my favorites. Also if any of these authors have tumblrs and I didn’t tag them let me know I’d love to tag them, or tag them yourselves!

RIORDANVERSE

Seeker - first of a series, oc fic, about a kid who can sense danger and crashes the great prophecy, series is up to book 3 as of adding it here (July) I am emotionally attached to this series it’s one of the best things I’ve ever read

Phyrrhic - oc fic, twin children of Persephone who acted as spies during the Titan War, in progress. I am so emotionally attached to Calista it’s an issue

Second Chances - oc fic, four demigods die in the Battle of Manhattan and come back to life, in progress. They’re deaths are all so sad but they come back to life and ahshdhdhhdhhdhdhh

HUNGER GAMES

As Long As I’m Burning by @heathercubedfic - Johanna’s point of view throughout the series, including her Games. 21/48 as of writing this I think. I love Johanna’s characterization so much it feels so realistic

The Rise of Rangi by @d7kyoshi - The Rise of Kyoshi through Rangi’s pov (has a sequel for The Shadow of Kyoshi). Absolutely amazing characterization of Rangi I love it so much

Sunstroke by @soupdots - Azula healing fic, 8/?. Azula is very in character and I love her so much

moonsoon season (book: air) by @maisazula - au where Azula is the Avatar. A lot of worldbuilding and really good writing.

That newest part is still at the stage of being a very drafty draft and, yes, I just put in the German word, if the English one doesn't appear in my head right away, because it breaks to flow too much, if I start searching for the right word in the middle of a sentence... So good luck with this... 🤪

In the spring they could be gekeschert in masses out of Chandrila‘s lakes, but to weiterverarbeiten them was a very long and difficult process.

What made you ship it?

Don't ask me how but I heard Shelby mention a boyfriend in the pilot and heard her Texas accent and KNEW she was repressing something lol

But probably also when Toni says that line of wtf are you wearing, enemies to lovers all the way babey!

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I'm always a sucker for repressed religious girl having a gay awakening (yes i grew up catholic what about it) so love that for me. But also I think they balance each other out really well and there's that recognized attraction between them (although I think its both unwanted in the beginning) that makes it spicy

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I could easily see them breaking up after the island and the bunker. Not necessarily right away or for a lack of trying, but their relationship would be in the public eye, not to mention Dave. Also if Shelby ever realizes that their relationship was filmed or almost fabricated by Gretchen, that could easily set her off on a really dark path I think.

Obviously I want them to be together but worst case scenario I think their relationship would be one of those first love relationships that is so intense and necessary and formative for both of them but mostly Shelby, but also it ends because it's best for both people involved. That doesn't mean it doesn't fucking hurt though when it ends.

2. What fandoms do you write for and do you have a particular favourite if you write for more than one?

I have written for a lot but the fandoms that I have most recently written for / currently write for are Supergirl and Critical Role (mighty nein not vox machina)

6. If you had to delete one of your stories and never speak of it again, which would it be and why?

Probably a really shitty Alicia Clark/Elyza Lex fanfiction I wrote on a whim the first day that craze happened lol

11. Have you ever amended a story due to criticisms you’ve received after posting it?

Nah, the most I’ve done is fix grammar or typos I didn’t notice before

12. Who is your favourite character to write for? Why?

Probably Alex Danvers, specifically Alex and Kara interaction. I’m pretty sure at least half of my sanvers fics have a sister night somewhere in there, if not more than one. She’s just one of my favorite characters in general and it’s very fun to try and capture the nuances of her personality because there’s so many layers to her and each one is more interesting!

13. Who is your least favourite character to write for? Why?

I tried writing Lena Luthor once and it was just hard to figure her out, which is just how she is....but I think there’s a huge difference between canon Lena and fanon Lena so seeing posts about her on tumblr but then going and watching the show it’s like two different people and it gets confusing.

21. Tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? What is it about them that you admire?

One of my first favorite fic writers that I remember @novelconcepts! I don’t think they post fic much anymore but whenever they posted a new Cophine fic back in the day I would always rush to read it! And even if the fics were one-shots, and not too long, there was so much within the story itself that I loved! It could really capture you even if it was short

22. Do you have a story that you look back on and cringe when you reread it?

See answer for #6. Usually when I reread older stuff I try to see the good in it and then see how I’ve improved since then instead of just hating everything

27. Do you make a general outline for your stories or do you just go with the flow?

I’ll outline when I have a really good idea that I want to follow through on, so I did for Cophine She Brings Me the Music and Clexa I Need You Closer (although I lost that outline which is part of the reason I still haven’t finished it). I should really outline fics more often, maybe then I’d finish them. 

29. Do you have a story that you feel doesn’t get as much love as you’d like?

Not that I can think of off the top of my head but I know there’s a lot. Usually the best fics aren’t even on the first page on ao3 when you sort by kudos! You have to really dig for them but there are some amazing gems out there that people just don’t read because they get buried under pages of new fics and popular fics.

30. In contrast to 29 is there a story which gets lots of love which you kinda eye roll at?

I can think of one sanvers fic off the top of my head that I’m not going to name (because I don’t remember the name) but I read like fifteen chapters of it because it was one of the top kudosed fics and I was desperate for new sanvers content and I just couldn’t get into it. It felt very ooc and like it was trying too hard to be one of those fun, quirky fics, but then it was too dramatic at the same time.

33. What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten?

I’ve had at least a few people comment and say that this was like their third time reading it, or that they like to re-read it every once in a while, and it just means a lot that someone liked it so much that they actually remember it and go back to it??? it’s so cool??????

34. What’s the harshest criticism you’ve gotten?

I actually haven’t gotten very harsh criticism of my fics....I think the most annoying was when I had side Kara/James in a fic and like five comments were asking for supercorp......... like bruh...read the room

I haven't been reading much fanfic lately, but:

I know these two wonderful people have written a lot of leatin fics: @jimalim (who also has posted a ton of recs if i recall!) and @blinkaftermidnight

you can check the tag "fic recs" on my blog! granted it's a mix bag, as in there's stuff from other fandoms, but any leatin or the wilds fics ive read and/or saw mentioned on tumblr would be there + i'm p sure i've reblogged recs from other people
