(Corinne here) First of all, welcome to KDrama land! Crash Landing on You was my second ever KDrama, and the one that really got me hooked. I’m gonna be honest, it’s a hard one to top when you’re mid emotional hangover! That said, I love this ask and recommending KDramas to people, so I’m more than happy to recommend some. My strategy here, rather than recommend something that exactly mimics CLoY (because imo, there’s nothing exactly like it), is to recommend dramas that I think are some of the best of their genre—with some aspect that might help scratch that CLOY itch ;) So, without further ado, here is your KDrama Starter Pack: 

Goblin aka Guardian: The Lonely and Great God—This fantasy romance is a classic for a reason. The set-up: 900+ year old goblin Kim Shin is on a quest to find the goblin bride to pull the sword out of his chest and finally let him die. The catch: when he finds goblin bride Eun-tak and starts to fall in love with her, he wonders if there might be something to this whole “life” thing after all. Also featured: a glum Grim Reaper, with whom Kim Shin has a top tier bromance, who has a doomed romance of his own. Goblin gave me one of the biggest emotional hangovers post-CLOY in my early KDrama days. One caveat: Kim Shin meets Eun Tak when she’s in high school, so if huge age gaps in fantasy romances give you the ick, maybe give this one a pass (in which case the fantasy romances I recommend checking out instead are Alchemy of Souls and Doom at Your Service, both on Netflix atm). Mr. Sunshine—My pick for one of the best historical (aka sageuk) KDramas out there. Set in early 1900’s Joseon, just before/in the early days of Japanese occupation, this drama follows the lives of five equally compelling characters as they navigate the political turmoil of the time. At the center are Lady Ae-sin, an aristocratic lady with a tendency for dressing up as a man and sneaking around at night on missions for the rebels, and Eugene Choi, an American Marine now stationed in Joseon who escaped enslavement there as a child and has mixed feelings about the land of his birth. This one resonates with the forbidden/doomed love of people from different classes and cultures from CLOY. (On Netflix)

Reply 1988—This slice of live drama set in Seoul in 1988 follows five families who live in the same neighborhood, and especially five of their high school aged children as they grow up during a particularly vibrant time in South Korea’s recent history. Like the other installments in the Reply series, the series uses two of the main characters in the present day (or present to when it was released, anyway) looking back—which means that viewers know the Deok-sun ends up married to one of her four besties, but which one?? Still, while the love triangle mystery is fun, at its heart, this story is about community. It’ll scratch the CLoY itch for the North Korean market lady shenanigans, and a few others as well (especially if you like intense yearning in your dramas). (On Netflix)

Business Proposal—If you’d like romance of a completely different genre than CLOY, look no further than Business Proposal! In this KDrama, Shin Ha-ri goes on a blind date in place of her friend as a favor only find out that the date is with her boss. This tightly plotted romantic comedy plays with more rom com tropes than you can shake a stick at, but never sits with one so long that it gets old. The B couple is also fire, and helps move things along whenever the A couple gets into a rut. This drama also features some chaebol (rich business family) shenanigans a la CLOY.  (On Netflix)

Extraordinary Attorney Woo–If you’re in the mood for a workplace comedy/drama, look no further than Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Featuring the incandescent Park Eun Bin as rookie attorney Woo Young Woo, this legal drama features about a case per episode as Attorney Woo finds her way in the world alongside a delightful main cast of characters. (On Netflix)

Little Women—My choice for the makjang to include on this list (a genre in which extreme storylines are treated very seriously), this drama focuses on the three Oh sisters as the oldest finds that her friend who died under mysterious circumstances has left her 70 billion that a powerful political family will stop at nothing to get their hands on. Will the story always make complete sense? No. But will the stellar performances, fast-paced, genre-mixing drama, and wild cliffhangers keep you on the edge of your seat as you binge the whole thing? Absolutely. (On Netflix)

Extraordinary You—Youth dramas may or may not be your thing, but if you have the patience for the shenanigans of high schools, Extraordinary You is my top pick. In this fantasy romance, Eun Dan-Oh discovers that she is actually a character in a comic–and she’s not even the main one! While still high school appropriate, Eun Dan-oh’s literally doomed-by-the-narrative and impossible circumstances romance with Haru, another side character, is another one from my early KDrama days to stick with me just as much as Yoon Se-ri and Ri Jeong-hyeokk’s. Search: WWW—Ayanni’s particular contribution to this list, this modern romantic drama focuses on intersecting lives of three women working in the fast-paced tech industry at the top two competing web portal companies. Just as interesting as each woman’s various romantic entanglement are their entanglements with each other as they put their careers ahead of just about everything else. Ayanni says she especially appreciates this one because it focuses specifically on three women (also in this genre are Be Melodramatic and Because this is My First Life).

What do you think are the chances SM will drop out of the big 4 eventually soon? All I hear about them recently is how the company CEOs are milking it for all they can without care, I know big ships sink longer but it can't last forever, and Kakao doesn't seem to do SM much good too. Both companies are quite a pair to be honest, lawsuits, investigations and all, Bang PD must be happy he left that disaster for Kakao to deal with 😁 I wonder how SM falling apart would influence the entertainment industry.

“eventually soon” feels like an oxymoron lol, but I’ll assume you mean anytime in the next 5 years.

So what are the chances SM drops out?

My gut feeling is 0%. (With a caveat in point 3). SM is still going to be a prominent company in this space for the next 5 years for three reasons.

1. K-pop stans. That company has lasted this long because it’s perfected the model of k-pop - gamifying music consumption - on the largest swarth of fans for the longest time, longer than any other k-pop company. In fact I’d say you’ve not really met a company stan until you’ve met an SM stan because those creatures are the blueprint. Like, I see the way they move, decades later, and feel some respect for Lee Sooman because he’s created a formidable army that’s kept his company rolling through cultism scandals, a government subpoena, an Interpol indictment, several lawsuits from idols under his management, and a HYBE takeover… for starters.

SM dominated 1st and 2nd gen k-pop (alongside YG and JYP for 2nd gen) and a lot of k-pop stans who got in back then were pre-teens and teens. K-pop dominated by SM wasn’t just a hobby for those people, it was their childhood. And they cherish it as such, which also means bias on SM generally skews the way you’d expect. Many 1st and 2nd gen k-pop stans are still very active, they’ve grown up now and are no longer the pre-teens lost in the lights learning about Girls Generation. No. Now, those stans are now the ‘tastemakers’ of k-pop spaces. Much of the mythos around the Big 3 is created and actively sustained by this group of k-pop stans. They are the people you’d typically see being k-pop ‘journalists’ today, they run the main podcasts on k-pop, they moderate the main k-pop forums both in Korea and internationally, and so on. They play a significant part in driving ‘consensus k-pop’ opinions (though ARMYs seem to also make sure they have a voice). K-pop stans will be the first people to tell you how much they “hate” SM for being so shitty in treating their idols, but the bias towards SM in k-pop spaces is implicit. And no, it’s not because of the ‘vocals’.

2. SM’s cost base is low: (I rambled a lot in the first point and now jet lag is kicking in so I’ll try to keep this point brief.) SM spends next to nothing on their staff and talent. Part of the reason HYBE and Kakao could acquire them relatively easily last year, was because that company has next to no cost base, compared to other Big 4 companies. Almost every costing ratio has SM at the bottom compared to peers (excluding legal fees and other non-operating costs); on Korean blinds their employees self-report being the lowest paid among the Big4; Black composers SM hires have reported to The Guardian that the company doesn’t pay them… My point being, even if half of SM’s idol roster stopped putting out music for 1 year, the company’s cost base is so low that they’d still be afloat. Aside from all the auxiliary businesses SM is involved in (they also own hotels in Korea and other businesses), the company is more nimble than it seems at first glance and just needs a bit more time to get stable again.

Which brings me to my 3rd point.

3. New Groups. By this time next year I expect at least one of three things to have happened to SM. I’ll list two. (1) There’s M&A with a Western music label, and (2) SM (as a standalone entity) are back at the topline ratios they were at in 2019. Scenario 2 is already feasible with SM’s Moon&Back partnership, the new girl group debuting in 2024/2025, and RIIZE maintaining their current momentum, even as NCT begins enlisting this year. Nothing revives a company like SM better than new blood, and after the last few years of stagnation, SM is likely to see significant growth from those projects.

I agree with you that nothing lasts forever, empires rise and fall and HYBE will too at some point. And so eventually, SM as we know it will cease to exist. But I’m not expecting it to be anytime soon, save the caveats in point 3.

Kevin's touch sends shivers down Sami's spine as he leans in close, their lips mere inches apart when a blinding flash appears overhead.

"Make a wish." Kevin suggests as the shooting star crosses the sky.

Sami shakes his head in response, turning to meet Kevin's gaze. "It already came true." He softly replies, brushing his lips against Kevin's.

Yes my world is much more spiritually active than others so It can get chaotic at times. It does indeed keep things interesting, but as for your questions..

Well for starters there are afterlives, though they are often tied to their respective beliefs/deities.

There is indeed reincarnation as an option but there are many roles the departed can play in the spirit realm as well one of the most common is that of a guardian spirit. Spirits of the dead, aspect spirits, Inhabitant spirits, and nature spirits all can choose this and many other roles.

As for your last question yes spirits can be called upon but is not something one does lightly. As if you manage to upset them you will most likely be censured. Depending on the spirit and the severity of the infraction the censure can manifest from permanent blindness, to spontaneous immolation.

See most spirits don't simply do things for others as most need to make deals with them, and violating the terms in any way will lead to censure of not just the one who made the deal but often times those around them as well.

There are cases of others calling on spirits they have befriended and made a close bond with but this is rare outside of the spirits of the dead. Most spirits don't understand things or think the same way as you or I and is one of the reasons you must always be careful with your wording when communicating with them.

There is a lot more to it but I hope this can at least explain some of the basics.

Is Nie Mingjue a heavily misunderstood character or not ? Sorry my question is a little bit vague .

Now, I wouldn't say that he is heavily misunderstood bc, for starters, he's not that popular a character (which personally hurts my soul bc I love him So Much), and secondly, we aren't given a lot about him in canon. At face value, at least.

That's not to say that he isn't misundertood, but I'd argue that it is more of a... simplification of his character. It's very easy to see him and fall for just the gruff, angry man whose entire personality is shouting and Saber and Killing Wens. Mxtx herself presented him as such in a way, when telling us how JGY couldn't find anything to use against him, bc well... those things previously mentioned were all there was, apparently.

But I think that, just with the man himself, there's a lot more we can get by looking at his actions than with what the story tells us directly.

He loves his brother, thats's one thing. Confirmed by the author even. And I have to state this bc I have seen ppl call him abusive bc of how he treats NHS, but we have to see things from his perspective. This is a man who knows he is going to die young, who had to step up and be a sect leader and guardian to his brother when he was still a teen. Who had to be diplomatic with the man who killed his father and all the other leaders who did nothing about it (if they even believed him). Is it really so surprising that he wouldn't waste time in anything other than becoming the strongest the can be and preparing his brother to succeed him? A little brother that, to him, is not even trying to get involved or help with what could very easily be his entire responsibility one day.

(Also the fact that you don't go on a decade long revenge plot for a brother you don't love. So yeah, Niebros loved each other, you can't change my mind).

He didn't try to get married and have his own descendants after the war bc I think it would have been obvious to him by then that he cultivated too much, he accelerated the inevitable and leaving a widow and a small child would have only been extra responsibility to NHS.

And yet he tried to get better. He let the man he didn't trust anymore treat his terminal illness bc he didn't lose hope that he could at least buy himself some more time to prepare NHS and protect the Unclean Realm bc the world post-SSC was still very much fucked up and in JGS' hands and (again) no one else seemed to care.

NMJ had one of the strongest moral codes of the entire cast, so much so that it would be easy to call it black and white, but damn if that at least made him one of the very few characters you would always know where you stood with. He was as reliable as they come.

Of course, he was far from perfect. He had his biases and even his privilege blinding him to some extent. Like his determination to wipe out all the Wen, regardless of their involvement or lack thereof in the war. Just bc he would have rather die fighting than staying in his line and survive and help as he could, doesn't mean everybody else would or even should have. As rightful and honorable as he is, he is also convinced that there is only one way to do things right and I think we can all agree that that is objectively incorrect, if at least more commendable than not doing anything at all.

In the end, I definitely think that there is more to NMJ than meets the eye. He was a paladin of justice and tried his best to uphold it according to the standards of society. He was brave to the point of it costing it his life bc he refused to give in to JGS' unilaterally decided reign, and was actively the only significant political opposition the Jin had post-war. He dedicated all he had to his sect and his brother even if his interpersonal skills didn't allow for better communication there. He was willing to give the benefit of the doubt to someone who made all the alarms go off in his head bc of what he meant to him in the past and what he meant to LXC in the present. He was there to defend anyone with a righteous claim like the Chang clan when literally no one else cared. And all this while dealing with a degenerative and debilitating mental illness he couldn't let anyone outside of his circle know of.

He was one of the strongest, most honest characters. Not without his flaws, but a better person than many others, and I fully support how avenging him is literally the backbone of the entire story and the reason we have mdzs in the first place.

Rules:

1. For the most part, no explicit content. I am an adult, and I'm okay with some mature language and themes, but if it starts getting too far, I'll let you know. In general, avoid graphic descriptions of body parts and intimacy, but when in doubt, just pretend we're co-writers for a TV-14 show. For my muses under the age eighteen, this rule is obviously much stricter. Pretend you're talking to a younger pre-teen sibling (since I unfortunately know how inappropriate casual conversations can become in high school). Both of them happen to be asexual, so you can discuss that to an extent, but anyone who sends them sexual comments or asks invasive questions on the matter will either be given a warning or blocked on sight depending on the severity of said action. Despite Raven's adult-verse being added, this will still apply to her for now, because her default verse still involves her being 14-16. Also, over the years, I've gotten more desensitized to things of an adult nature, and under certain circumstances, I may be willing to write through intimate scenes instead of fading to black for applicable muses. However, expect the language to be vague and poetic, and if you know me irl, please don't mention things of this nature in person, bc my sex-repulsion is still very strong once my brain comprehends any connection to another tangible person. Specific NSFW guidelines here.

2. No God-Modding/Auto-Hit/etc. unless we discussed it ahead of time. Of course, if I reblog an RP meme that invites you to hurt or control my muse, you can temporarily ignore this rule to an extent.

3. Please plot with me if you want to write together. I don't like going into RPs completely blind. We don't have to work out every detail, but I'd at least like to get the basic gist of your character and the type of plot you want before starting anything. If I have no idea what our muses' relationship with each other is like, I'm not going to respond to any starters you send me. I also reserve the right to turn down certain plots and/or characters I'm not interested in interacting with.

4. Please be patient with me. Between real life and other RPs, I may not always respond right away. I don't expect you to either. That being said, Tumblr is a highly dysfunctional app, and if you're worried that I may not have gotten the notification for your response or mention, feel free to PM me and ask! Especially if you notice I haven't been active on the dash; I can't count the number of times I've only seen a reply or something I was tagged in because of my addiction to dash-scrolling.

5. Please don't interact if you're below 18. This rule doesn't necessarily apply to following or sending asks to my individual muse blogs that aren't marked 18+, where there shouldn't be any NSFW content, or the occasional SFW headcanon that might get spread beyond the rp community, but I will block any minors I find in my notes engaging with my content for adult muses directly. For my own comfort, I will not write with any muns who are minors, regardless of our muses' ages. I also won't write adult/minor or large age gap ships for muses under 25 (or whatever the equivalent maturity threshold might be for non-humans), potentially up to 30.

6. Feel free to reblog anything from my blogs except RP threads that you aren't part of. This is for my writing partners' comfort, and other than that exception, I couldn't care less about my notes getting clogged or reblog karma or whatever... I've literally had people reblog my bios and plot wishlists, which was weird but not upsetting. Although, on the topic of reblog karma, if I notice that you only use me as a resource blog without showing any interest in my muses, I won't block you, but I'm probably not going to be super motivated to RP with you either. When interest is shown though, I love being reblogged from so I can see how our muses relate or to send you asks as well!

7. Given that most of my blogs are for OCs, I think it's safe to say that I'm pretty OC-friendly. I'll RP with any well-written character that I can see my muses interacting with. For crossovers, I don't usually do outside verses for my muses (I have experimented with Swelter having an X-Men verse that I might add soon, though), and I'm not the biggest fan of multiverse plots between different franchises, but I'm definitely up for writing with AU versions of your muses as long as they fit within the world enough for me to not be distracted by it. For example, I probably wouldn't write with a Dragon Age version of Swiftwind from She-Ra, since animals don't talk in that universe, but I might be more open to it if Swiftwind were possessed, since there was a demon who communicated through an animal host in one of the games.

8. You may want to tag the associated individual blog for any muses you want to interact with when mentioning me. Hopefully, I'll see it if you don't, but Tumblr has previously been inconsistent in showing that I have notifications for this main blog unless it's for messages.

9. I write any length from conversational to multi-para. I'll generally try to match your length, but don't feel like you have to do the same. In fact, shorter responses are often less overwhelming to me for that very reason. I'm prone to letting the words take over occasionally, but as long as you give me something I can respond to, we should be good. 👌

10. I try to acknowledge the real world as little as possible on here. I come here to escape from the struggles of life and don't have remotely enough followers to really have an impact on bringing people's attention to things. I may reblog informative posts if they're relevant to aspects of my muses' or donation posts specifically for mutuals in the Tumblr RPC, but please don't directly ask me to share things, because my highest follower count across my blogs is around 30, I believe, less than 5 of those followers seem to regularly interact with my posts, and basically all of them are dealing with their own significant hardships, don't have many followers either, and/or are just as strict or stricter regarding their engagement with non-RP posts.

11. My blogs are not safe spaces for bigots. If your beliefs cause harm to others for simply existing and not causing any harm themselves, you are not welcome here. So far, I've only had one TERF apparently miss the memo that I'm non-binary (not that I'd be any less accepting of trans folks if I weren't), but I figured I should clarify to avoid any other bigots trying to follow or interact with me.

12. If you plan on sending asks to or writing with my Dragon Age muses, please note that I'm not acknowledging Veilguard as canon. I'm not opposed to writing with any characters from it, but I plan to essentially treat any post-Inquisition plots the same way I always have, where we make up things together based on events from the prior games. I may be reluctant to follow if I can only tell that you write Veilguard muses, because people who'd only played Inquisition already missed a lot of nuance regarding established lore, and I'm much more nervous about those who've only played Veilguard thinking core aspects of the universe are vastly different. That being said, as long as you're willing to adjust things to fit the previously established canon in our threads, there likely shouldn't be any problems. I'll link my specific issues and just general disappointments here once I write up a post for them.

Wen Wing and Wen Ning, Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning, Wen Qing and Wei Wuxian, Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji are what siblings should be like! There’s genuine care, teasing and support even though disagreements.

As cute as JYL and WWX were, none of their relationships are ideal.

JYL spends her time coddling them both, excusing their faults, yet not particularly defending them or standing up for himself; WWX is terrible to himself regarding both the Jiangs, maybe he doesn’t have low self esteem but he certainly lacks a self preservation instinct when it comes to his mental (and physical) well being around them; JC goes from idolising but barely interacting with JYL like a real person to actively hating and attacking WWX.

Every time I see the Wens and the Lans, I just wonder how they got through the CR lectures without wanting to take WWX away from the Jiangs (well, Wens and Lans in CQL, and Lans in the novel?).

Because everyone was blinded by the smokescreen WWX's personality created. That's the case irl as well. Bright souls with a tendency to laugh and make mischief are often disregarded. If there are any signs of abuse, people just shrug it off thinking 'they must have done something to upset parents/guardians.' If you don't take a person seriously, you aren't gonna take their problems seriously.

No one took WWX seriously until he changed and went against the norm. (I think JFM was a slight exception- but he was too passive for that to have any impact) Even LWJ was dismissing him regularly, while being reluctantly enamored by him. WN would've noticed but he's too shy and WQ- she wouldn't be able to do anything about it.
