Week #40: My Little Hauler
So, I'm not gonna lie. Mortarion drained my desire to paint anything heavily. I've stared at my Plague Marines for the entire week and the idea of painting another Plague Marine feels almost nauseating. Which is weirdly on brand for Death Guard.
So I went to my local Warhammer store and bought something I've wanted to paint for a long time. A Myphitic Blight-Hauler. Something about its face I just find very cute and the design has a lot of smooth panels which lets me test what my painting scheme looks like on larger more "flat" surfaces. I think it looks pretty good. I attempted making an eye for the first time which was a little harder than I thought it would be, but I think it turned out nice. Let me know what you think.
I really don't know what I'm going to paint next because Mortarion has drained literally any motivation I've had to paint anything. I didn't expect that to happen, but I did spend a lot of time working on him.

Finally finished my rather beat up 2nd-hand Myphitic Blight-Hauler. He might be a bit less spiky than his daemon engine brothers, but he still brings just as much destructive power to bear. And was no less of a joy to paint! Bringing my fully painted Black Legion models to um... Three. Hopefully my kit-bashed plague marines seen previously will join the club shortly.

More recent progress!
PLUS as a neat bonus a very generous Secret Santa got me a Macromat set. Still figuring out lighting with it but this thing is going to be rad!

Some additions for my Death Guard
After sitting unfinished for 7-9 months, after i got distracted by my loyalist space marines, the Lotus Eater Sons have finally received fully painted reinforcements:
For the rhinos i decided that i needed to put holes in them and slop some texture paste on them to make them more gross looking. Have done some highlights on the hole edges and most texture nubs in a kinda curry yellow, that grosses it up quite nicely. Plus a little rusty wash in select spots
Blight-hauler is not altered because it was nurgley enough.
On the helbrute I removed all the chaos spikeys from the armor panels and the black legion symbol on the front plate and i drilled holes in it because that just looks real good for nurglefying models.
one of my friends said the blight-hauler reminded them of strawberry ice cream

So far the Grotmas detachments are shaping up to be winners all around, doing exactly what they need to be doing: giving people an alternative way to play with units that are not getting the spotlight under conventional circumstances without looking blatantly broken.
None of the three we have seen so far look like they will suddenly turn the faction they are for on their head, instead they look fun and functional. If this pattern keeps up, for some armies it is quite obvious what they'll be getting: the T'au codex for example has zero relevant support for Steath Suits and Ghostkeels, so I expect a thematic "Stealth" detachment. GSC meanwhile has nothing that really interacts with their transports unloading units, so a "Goliath" detachment wouldn't be unusual.
In the same way we can also try and predict what the Thousand Sons are getting tomorrow: as the current playstyle is all about units that make cabal points and units that shoot psykic (aka rubrics with a stratagem), I think we should be getting ready for Detachment Tzaangors: the Tzaangoring with probably a small synergy mechanic for the Vortex Beast just how Blight Haulers got it for Death Guard.

I've made a horrible 1k list made out of 9 blight haulers and a lord of virulence.
It will probably never win anything but lore for this is that the lord is taking his doggies for a walk (blight haulers are described as hound like).
This is objectively a top-tier list and you should be extremely proud of yourself

For those curious, yes this is my own special warband and I will post about them if people are interested. Current list tabletop wise is a blight hauler, LoV plus 3 deathshroud, Typhus plus 10 poxwalkers, and 7 plague marines. Pls be nice as this is baby’s first post. I’m welcoming advice and feedback on the paint scheme as long as it’s constructive. Most importantly, thanks for your time :D

*a nurgling brings Mortarion a scroll made of leather with a message written in dried blood that smells of sickness and decay*
Hello my lord
I do not know if you remember me, but I am known as Master of the Ironpuss (which is a blight I am proud to have created), leader of a warband which made a stop at your world to resupply. I write as my Blight-Haulers have made friends with your own warmachines and for the last few warp journeys expressed interest in visiting to play. May you grant my forces permission to stay for a longer while in your territory, so our adorable engines can reconnect?
I hope to hear your answer soon.
*The nurgling loiters aroud Mortarion, seemingly waiting for something, possibly a message to take back to it's master*
"... If it will help with morale..." -sighs-
-manifests a scroll of rotten parchement and writes down a simple message with his own blood-
y̵͓͋͌o̵̢͚͛u̸̠͠ ̷̀̔̆͜h̵͕͝a̴̲͚̿̄̽͑ṿ̶̟͛͆̃ȩ̴͉̎͗ ̷̝̐m̷̬̹̉̓ỳ̵̢̗̻́ ̶̻͒͐̆͆ͅp̶̙̅̾e̷̞̭̿͗r̷̙͓̼̒m̵̳̩͙͇̐̉ḯ̵̟̥s̴̯̱̹̯͊̋̏s̸̙̱̰͒͐ͅi̷̞͈͌o̵̹̮̪͓͗n̸̛͙̄͐̓ ̴͉̕t̴̩͑͘̕͜ọ̷͖̩̉ ̸̯̚d̵̛͓̊̀ō̸̼̯ͅ ̵͈͐͆̓̚s̷̹̜̖̔͑́ǫ̵̦̱̝̊̀͒ ̶̞̩̈́ͅ ̴̱̩̠̫͒͗́m̸̛͇̖̙ͅò̸̝̱̘̓r̴͔͕̠̾̋̏͝ţ̴̽̆̃̓a̵͕͙͈͗͐̂r̷̜͇̫͍̉i̵̘̭̘̰͗̇̚ọ̴͂̽͜n̷̙̲̞̐̈̑
-rolls up the scroll, seals it with his own ichor and hands the scroll to the nurgling wordlessly along with a 'permissions seal'-
"you may leave now."

Death Guard Thing
I don’t remember what this little guy is called. Blight hauler? He’s cute. This was one of the first models I got back in 2019- seeing imperial knights kind of got me back into 40k since I love huge robots (and wasting money.) My first knight ended up being a part of this model in a way! One of the extra faceplates ends up beneath the hauler. I completed the base long after I’d painted it (in about 5 layers of indecisive color schemes)

Me: wants to buy a tonne of Myphitic Blight Haulers for my Death Guard cuz they look like cute little messed up plague puppies
Also me: doesn't want to run Myphitic Blight Haulers in my army cuz they look like silly little plague puppies who deserve hazmat suit belly rubs and must be protected from the Horrors of War

Warhammer 40,000 Death Guard Changes for June 20, 2024
Mortarion's Legion is also looking pretty good, though they're struggling with event wins. This, however, is one army that may be able to make excellent use of Secret Missions. While Death Guard can struggle with scoring, they may be able to bully the enemy off objectives before the end of the game. This alone might provide them with a little buff.
But GW doesn't want to let them enter the Pariah Nexus entirely unchanged. They've changed the Putrifier's Explosive Maladies again. Now this rule just lets you target one of your Biologus Putrifier units with Grenades for 0CP. No additional Grenades allowed. That's the only change. No errata has been added either, and the two FAQs are just confirmation of existing timing and modifier rules.
But again, sitting at a 50% win rate puts Death Guard in a great position for some internal balance passes. The Putrifier takes a 10 pts nerf in addition to further restricting his ability. Foul Blightspawn also get nabbed for 10 pts. Blightlord Terminators finally get a needed buff though, taking them down 2 pts per model. Blight-haulers, Blightbringers, and the Plague Surgeon also get some love. The Plague Surgeon especially got a nice buff, going down almost a quarter of his cost.
Again, and I feel like I'm repeating this a lot, if they take down the best armies, the armies beneath them get better. I don't think there's enough negative here for Death Guard players to worry about. Hell, they still haven't nerfed Typhus!

Myphitic blight-hauler done!

I really wish that GW would stop with the push-fit "easy to build" miniatures. I get the appeal, but at the very least they should make 'normal' versions of some of them. Every one of those I've built has needed a bunch of work to get the parts to fit flush with each other.
I mean it’s not a huge issue when it’s a Myphitic Blight Hauler, because Nurgle stuff is supposed to look messed up. But when it’s a necron, a model that you can’t use too much force with because of all the thin, fiddly bits? That’s an issue.
