Has Kubo every out right said that poem that they use anytime they’re disagreeing with an Ichihime fan is about Rukia ? Because I’ve tried looking but I can’t seem to find anything 🤔

I honestly don't pay to the poems so I have no idea lol. But at this point it doesn't even matter because he's already confirmed that he always intended for Bleach to end with Ichigo's child meeting Rukia's child i.e. he never intended for Ichigo and Rukia to be romantic.

Any poems or colorspreads or whatever else that highlight Ichigo and Rukia's bond, are celebrating their bond for exactly what it is: a strong, platonic nakama bond. I think people tend to get confused and believe that there's simply no way that the ichiruki bond would be celebrated as special unless it's romantic. But that is what you will always find at the forefront of shounens: strong nakama bonds and the "power of friendship!!!" dressed up in flowery ways. And as Kubo said, Bleach is not a romance story, so celebrating a romantic couple at the forefront wouldn't make any sense lol.

Friends, it is time. After a three year hiatus, I present to you:

Renji Fashion Round-up, Part 4a

What, you say? You don’t remember the original Renji Fashion Round-Up posts? They are here: (Part 1: Canon) (Part 2: Filler) (3: OPs and EDs) 

This edition will cover Colorspreads and Promotional Materials, and it’s so long that I am spreading it out over two posts. (Yes, I realize I could have further filtered it into Colorspreads AND Promotional Materials, but I found a big folder of these on Reddit and it’s too much work to further sort them. Also, I think it makes more sense to do it this way). I’m going from worst to best, so this post will be covering #20-#10. You may see a few outfits from previous editions, because the openings and endings sometimes used some of these looks, but they didn’t always do them justice, so they are getting a re-rating. I have also grouped outfits that I felt went together thematically, to keep this from getting even longer than it already is. I also left out a handful of ones that just weren’t that interesting/I didn’t have much to say about.

Additionally, I just want to say that I didn’t even know these existed when I made the original posts, and I have since learned that Kubo actually hated the outfits that the anime put Renji in, because he felt like Renji was a great dresser. So even though these is the bottom half of the list, this whole section is a tier above the other ones, and there’s some real gold here.

Anyway, let’s get into it!!!

20. Vampires!

I’m just not into vampires generally, and you can barely even see his outfit. Also he definitely looks like he’s only pretending to drink that...blood alcohol, whatever it’s supposed to be, but, like, the cap is actually still on. (There’s also a fake ad for Pigeon Ruby in Color+ Bleach? Stop trying to make Pigeon Blood happen, Kubo!!)

19. Big Pimpin’

I will admit that he’s got major drip and is very slutty overall, which I normally love, but this is just not my preferred aesthetic. If you love this one, I support you, but I just do not care for it. Also, the fit itself is just not that interesting. I do like his lil braid, tho.

18. Mummy, again

I rated it low in the Filler Round-up and I am rating it low here. I do like the way he’s smoldering at the viewer, and as sexy mummy costumes go, he’s really working it, even without showing skin. That being said: it’s bandages.

17. Cravats, I guess

These two outfits seem sort of fundamentally similarly to me-- low-saturation palate, bit of a slouchy, grungy texture, cravats. I don’t love it, friends. The second one is definitely far superior to the first (the fedora! why??), especially because I loooooove that hairstyle for him and the scarf is tied a little more like a scarf, but he can do better than this.

16. Vampires, again.

I initially rated this one very low, but the more I stare at it, the more I am charmed by it. I mean, this outfit is legit awful. The fedora. The shorts (ft leg stubble). The one pulled-up sock. Ichigo has gone for a more classy all-white vampire look and he can’t even bear to get out of his coffin to be seen with this man. The boots are good, actually and I know I have criticized Renji for wearing white shoes after Labor Day in the past, but it’s working for him here.

15. Oversized sweats

Kubo sure loves to put some dudes in matching sweats!! I have to admit, it’s not my favorite, but maybe I just prefer a more put-together look. I mean, that third one, in particular, is iconic, but it’s because he’s manspreading and his abs and tits are out, but it’s not because of the outfit. The red-and-white tracksuits are notably a step up from the plain gray hoodies, although that scorpion brooch is, uh, something.

14. Military uniforms

So, to be fair, Renji looks really good in a uniform! Even in an anime about career soldiers, the guy is a career soldier to the bone. I think the problem I have with these is that he looks so natural in this sort of thing that it’s just not all that remarkable, in the way that, say, Rukia in a military uniform is just...phew!! Anyway, the fact that this is #15 says more about this list than it says about this look.

13. Workout-gear

See, I like this sort of form-fitting workout gear much more than I like the sweats from earlier. This gets a lot of bonus points for being sleeveless: Renji’s arms are incredible and it shows off the tatts. He should just be sleeveless a lot more often, imo!! Anyway, I wish we could see this better and also, is he wearing gloves? I do really like this bandana, although I am distinctly not sure how I feel about the braids.

12. Men in Black

This is a classic look, and I love whenever how whenever Kubo draws Renji in a group of people with very similar outfits, he always manages to look the best (it’s because he’s tall). Anyway, he’s working it, but unfortunately this look is irrevocably linked to Reservoir Dogs to me, and I am done with Tarantino, so this only makes #12.

11. Beach breeze

Speaking of movies from my formative years, he’s got big Pierce Brosnan-as-James Bond-when-he-has-to-go-to-a-tropical-island energy to me. I wish we could see this from the front. I feel in my heart that he looks very handsome in it, but to me, the vibes are wrong. Renji is just not a man who puts on linen to go to the beach. It’s good, but just slightly off to me. I like his WIlliams-Sonoma $300 watermelon carrier, though.

10. Lamp Society, but make it classy

This outfit appeared, briefly and out-of-context during the very end of OP4: Tonight, Tonight, Tonight. I liked it then and I like it now! It’s tight, even though it probably shouldn’t be and it’s got sort of a modest tit-window. I’d probably rate it higher if we could see more of it. It looks like he’s wearing black pants, which doesn’t seem very practical for the desert. It’s worth noting that everyone looks 1000x times better than when the anime recycled these outfits for the Lamp Society episode.

The more I read your posts the more I wonder what the fresh hell happened in the Bleach fandom lol.

I wasn't a part of it back then, but when I witnessed the collective breakdown from shippers in an ending, to the point of burning their books, I don't think I want to know...

Alright for a very, verrrry basic breakdown of what essentially happened:

Bleach starts, Ichigo meets Rukia

Early 2000's, boy meets girl in shounen and they're bickering, instantly shipped

First two arcs of Bleach focus on Ichigo and Rukia's relationship (henceforth referred to as IR)

Anime overhypes IR, downplays Orihime - Ichigo's actual love interest - and her relationship with Ichigo (the ship of which henceforth referred to as IH)

Anime makes Orihime more ditzy and air-headed + ditzy and air-headed female character in the 2000's + "potential" "love rival" of IR (Orihime is the sole love interest for Ichigo and thus there literally isn't a rivalry but you get the idea) = Orihime becomes extremely hated, consequently making IH extremely hated

Renji and Rukia's relationship (henceforth called RR, though it's less relevant in general) isn't necessarily downplayed by the anime so much as it is mostly ignored by IR because Obviously Rukia Just See Renji As A Friend (spoiler: no she doesn't)

As the manga continues passed the Soul Society arc (also known as the Rescue Rukia arc) written IR interactions drop significantly as their relationship remains as Extremely Close Friends (but like, actually)

Anime still pushes IR anyway through filler arcs + continual erasure of Orihime's moments, now with added IR implications in canon moments (i.e., Nel getting jealous of Rukia and thinking she's in a relationship with Ichigo during the beginning of the Arrancar arc - doesn't happen in the manga). IR shippers start clinging to non-canon material such as colorspreads and merch, character poems are misinterpreted to be about IR when they're not ("I wonder, can I keep up with it? The speed of the world, without you in it?" is often mistakenly said to be about Ichigo towards Rukia, I do believe it's actually about Zangetsu - this specific one happens later on, but you get the general idea), etc. etc.

Fade to Black movie drops, becomes known as "the IR movie" - then the mangaka is said to have said that Ichigo and Rukia were "more than friends, less than lovers" which somehow translates to them being lovers despite IR shippers' own wonky translation saying otherwise (this one genuinely confuses me to this day lmao)

Cycle continues

BOOM Lust Arc, Ichigo dies trying to protect Orihime and is then subsequently revived into a Hollow by her desperate pleas to save her combining with his want to protect her, only to become human again once he successfully kills what was threatening Orihime (in his mind)

Omega IH moment

IR shippers fuckin' hated it, makes the Lust Arc = Fail essay to justify why the Lust Arc actually totally definitely doesn't mean anything and IR will still totally happen

By this point they've believed IR is "basically confirmed" and they go back to hating on IH

Cycle continues, anime is still hyping up IR, though I do believe by this point they stopped downplaying Orihime/IH at least somewhat

Then we do a hard cut to the Quincy arc

Ichigo and Rukia barely interact. Are barely in the same panel. Or on the same page. Or even in the same location. Like, for the majority of the last arc.

IH moments skyrocket, as well as RR moments skyrocketing

Most notable moments for both: Renji thanking Ichigo for bring him and Rukia back together from the bottom of his heart; Ichigo bringing Orihime to fight alongside him against the last arc's main villain, something Ichigo had never done before with anyone else

IR shippers haaaaaate it, deny that anything that happens between IH and RR mean anything since IR is such a shoe-in for canon

Cut to the ending of Bleach, IH and RR are endgame because fuckin' duh

Cue infamous shit-fest from IR shippers

In essence, the breakdown that came from the ending came from a loooooooong history of IR shippers taking extensive, all-expenses-paid trips up and down The Nile about anything and everything that was slowly building up between IH and RR. They (and, to be clear, I mean "they" as in the specific IR shippers who acted like this, not all IR shippers) would also act pretty damn entitled too - they'd chase the mangaka Tite Kubo off of Twitter twice if I remember right, just cuz he wouldn't fuckin' lie and say that IR would be canon.

None of this being at all helped by the anime shitting all over Orihime's character at the crucial beginning episodes of Bleach, with them completely butchering her literal first appearance ever into something that quite literally portrays her as feeling the exact opposite feelings for Ichigo than the manga shows her feeling (and with Ichigo seeming annoyed with her presence, which is where you get the whole "Ichigo doesn't even like Orihime!" take from).

So ultimately the years of IR shippers feeling as confident as they did about IR becoming canon, shitting on IH both as a ship independent from the shippers as a "crackship" and as something that is stupid of anyone to ship and thus any shipper of IH inherently invites ridicule (of which they did a lot of), ignoring all of the signs that IR wasn't gonna happen to the point of taking words from the mangaka that outright stated even in their translation of his words they were not lovers and somehow twisting that to mean that they definitely are lover, taking any development Ichigo had as a character and making it somehow someway all about how he is nothing without Rukia and only Rukia because only Rukia ever helped him because romantic love is the only thing that could ever save Ichigo and Ichigo would totally abandon his still-living friends and family in the World of the Living to be Rukia's lieutenant (hmmm where has this theme cropped up before) - all of that culminated into the absolute STATE they fell into when it was revealed that all of their excuses for their shitty behavior meant even less than they already did because their ship didn't even become canon at the end of the day. You both had to be there and be glad that you weren't there lmao

I hate bald head 686 human Ichigo. He would never settle for a boring human life. Literally from the beginning, the whole story was about Ichigo finding his identity and how he'd change the old ways of ss. The narrative was calling for Ichigo to settle in soul society at the end and continue changing ss but noooo kuborg has Ichigo with a broken bankai or powers gone idk , going bald at 27, broke and with a kid that doesn't even has 0.01% of his lovable tsundere personality .//I don't want see two inoues on screen. I can barely tolerate one//.

Same with 686 Rukia, idk who that impostor is but that isn't the Rukia we all liked dearly. She would never bring a child into a messed up world or let a kid become a freaking war soldier or let herself become a tool for the same system that oppressed her. Yes, the story was calling for her to become a captain at the end but in a changed world.

Same for Aizen, another impostor. The aizen that I know is multifaceted and would never give up after 10 years of imprisonment and talk about bullshit courage. He's always scheming in the shadows and like he said he wanted to sit at the throne. He's immortal. I'm sure he'd just bid his time until everyone dies or something. He's badass and shit. Not a twink.

My brain isn't fully working rn so here are some crumbs... Imagine he's become too powerful and break out of muken and BOOM adult captain Ichigo Kurosaki Shiba is there to stop him confidently. Aizen smirks and something snarky and comments about how Ichigo has become powerful. Captain Rukia arrives on scene. With beautiful long hair and not that mullet shit. She's pissed that aizen has broken out of muken. Aizen comments about how it's been 13 years or so since he has seen both of them and states something about going round 2 with Ichigo. Ichigo activates his op Quincy/shinigami bankai and says something about how soul society has changed for the better since their last battle and he's not going to let aizen disrupt the long lasting peace. Rukia activates her icy op bankai and stands next to Ichigo. Aizen activates his powers. The last panel of bleach shows The Death and The Strawberry and has a nice colorspread of everyone Byakuya, Yoruichi, Urahara, Uryu, Chad, Shunsui, Shinigami Karin, Quincy Yuzu, baker orihime, tatsuki, etc.

There! An open ending or something akin to that. Isn't that NICE? isn't that 1000x better 😁?

Honestly anyone who accepts kuborg bs writing has either never read a good book or watched a good movie.

Btw, I was close to shipping Neuro & Yako, but in my heart, I believe that I see them as a bizarre mentor & pupil in a platonic way. With Neuro being more like a surrogate father for Yako especially after her dad Seiichi was murdered, Neuro, Yako's papa #2.😁

Not to mention what deepens my thought is when I read in Yusei Matsui's 2016 interview that he answered in 1 of his questions that he's great with father-figure/child relationships for an audience. So that was a nice reminder that not only Matsui considers Koro-Sensei as a paternal figure obviously to 3E, but also Neuro to Yako.☺

 But what's super important is that I want to say that for romance, I actually find myself shipping Yuuya Higuchi x Yako Katsuragi!

 I just couldn't help it because to be perfectly honest, those two are realistic & could have the potential to become lovers!

 I believe that after the HAL arc, it's implied that Higuchi fell for Yako after she saved him from his guilt, she indeed "captured the criminal's heart."

There were even more moments between them in the manga, which is a hell of a lot better.

 What if before meeting Yako, Higuchi actually has never thought about or just wasn't interested in love & that he never even had experience, but all of that changed when Yako came in to his life, & suddenly....he falls in love for the very 1st time?💓

 Imagine after the completion of 2nd work, Assassination Classroom back in '16, Matsui will finally make up his mind & bring back the MTNN series as a sequel especially after that cliffhanger from the final chapter, 202. & in the sequel, Matsui will have fans by surprise by doing his usual & crazy ship hintings by making Yako & Higuchi become even closer, which includes the 1st name base:Yako-Chan & Yuya-Kun, & Higuchi's in love with Yako even more. The two would be revealed to even do stuff together like have breakfast, lunch & dinner, go to places like arcades, malls, internet cafes, Disneyland, Sega Joypolis & spas,...& perhaps spare keys to each other's places.🥞☕🍱💑🥃🍝🍷🎡🎮

And timeskip Higuchi now wears a white gold watch on his right wrist, he cherishes so much as he's always wearing it. Why? Because it was a gift from Yako on his 20th birthday.⌚

 What if Matsui will make Higuchi so in love with Yako that he does not pay any attention to other females at all, not even to check out? Matsui will even have Higuchi having intense sexual feelings towards Yako as he'd have 0 reaction when it comes to other women especially with those who have much bigger breasts than Yako. But when it comes to only Yako, Higuchi gets turned on, his urges would get to him. Takes after her alot especially with the unstoppable giagantic appetite...like mother like daughter. She was born on January, 3 2013. Her name in the kanji 柚永 means "citrus eternity"🍋

 2nd, son Yahiro. Black hair with an ahoge, brown eyes & pale skin. Looks just like his father with his mother's eyes, & wears glasses like his late grandpa Higuchi. He was born on July, 15 2017. His name in the kanji 矢博 means "arrow abundant"➡.

 3rd, son Yuusei(like the mangaka😊). Blonde hair, blood red eyes & light tan skin. Bears a strong resemblance to Yako like her little genderbender with Yuya's eyes. The sei in his name, was after late grandpa Seiichi Katsuragi. He was born on May, 30 2019. His name in the kanji 勇星 means "brave star"🌟

 & 4th, daughter Yasumi. Brown hair, brown eyes & pale skin. She actually inherited her brown hair from grandma Haruka Katsuragi. She likes to keep her hair in twintails as a little girl. When she's older, she shockingly grows breasts that are alot bigger than her mom's & big sister's lol!

She was born on November, 6 2022.

Her name in the kanji 康心 means "peaceful heart".❤

Just found your Tumblr. Your whole Tumblr and all the "hints" you point out can be explained by Nami being the main female leading role and Luffy the MC. All of your "hints" could've have also been said about Naruto x Sakura or Ichigo and Rukia. Why? For the same reason. They are the main leading roles. And look how that turned out.

Well actually, I disagree that most of the "hints" I've focused on or presented stem from the fact that they are MCs. You could use that logic for the colorspreads but it doesn't explain their relationship and dynamic in the manga. But even if we put all the Manga moments aside, them being MCs doesnt detract in any way or decrease the possibility that they would be paired up at the end. People seem to forget that a lot of mangas usually pair up MCs such as Fairy Tail, and Bleach and so much more. So while people like to bring up the one major deviant (Naruto) they omit and forget the numerous manga that follow the trope. It's why a lot of people are familiar with the MC x MC pairing happening in manga.As for MCs not ending up together, the only major( as in extremely popular) example I can think of is Naruto, because in my opinion I thought Orihime was the female lead for Bleach and the obvious love interest. Plus, Oda isn't Kishi, so it's not really a logical argument. The way they tackled romance and love in their respective mangas have been leagues different. My 2c.

Unpopular opinion ( maybe ? ) I really like the cartoonish look of some characters and the colorspreads but overall, i think most of the time it looks like "scrap papers" ? Maybe because Oda wants to draw everything but a lot of the time the panels are just not easy to understand. If Oda'story telling was combined with for exemple Yusuke Murata ( O Punch Man ) or Tite Kubo ( bleach) 's drawing it would ne soooo good

I feel like Oda had this problem in early OP (don’t ask me why) because I, at times, had to re read the page numerous times because the layout confused me. I think it’s gotten better (and it can still confuse me at times) but it can be a bit of a pain.

Hey anon! As far as new new content goes in colour yes those are the only new ones. 

However, I wouldn’t necessarily call it disappointing. There’s an awful lot of content in here that most people probably haven’t seen before, due to it having been in random Weekly Shonen Jumps, games that never made it outside of Japan, sketches from the ROCK MUSICAL BLEACH pamphlets, etc. I’ve included some new ones below the read more.

Plus we knew that this was mostly going to be a collection. And literally everything is in here that’s in colour, as well as some stuff that wasn’t (the drawings Kubo did when in Luca) and new stuff that isn’t in colour like concept art for stuff that never made it into the manga.
