Red Ranger:
Name: Alex Moreno
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Height: 5’10
Nationality: Cuban
General Appearance: An athletic build with tanned skin and a short bob of black hair, Alex usually wears red t-shirts with jeans and a black jacket, though often feels fit to swap it out with red themed sportswear.
Personality: Alex is an extremely passionate person when it comes to doing the things she likes, this applying to her duties as a Ranger as well as she sees it as her duty. She’s often a source of inspiration for most of her fellow Rangers due to this sheer determination and many of their battles are won through her desire to never give up.
This fire has made her a target for many of the MaliBeasts in the hopes that defeating her can break the Ranger’s spirits. Alex herself doesn’t think much of this, as she claims most MaliBeasts don’t scare her.
Most of her problems tend to stem from her own teammates, Takeo in particular. Whenever someone talks back to her, Alex can’t help but take it as an insult. She is only angered further by Takeo, who flat out ignores her commands at times and has frequently led to the two butting heads.
Despite all how angry she can get in an argument, she often finds herself regretful about it afterwards. Regardless of how well she actually does, she’s extremely self-deprecating whenever she makes even the slightest mistakes, often wishing that she can just snap her fingers and become the perfect leader.
Abilities and Equipment:
Typical Ranger Skill and Enhanced Physical Capabilities
Draco Breath Sword: A broadsword that allows Alex to channel the element of Fire.
Great Slashing Blaze: A single strike that sends a projectile slash of fire towards the opponent.
Dragon Hearth Slam: A slam to the ground that causes an eruption of fire.
Blazing Talon: A thrust that creates a fiery extension to the blade, increasing its range.
Dragon’s Mighty Roar: A powerful beam of fire erupts from the tip of the blade. This technique usually follows directly after Blazing Talon.
Zords:
Dragon Cryptizord: Her primary Zord for the entire story. In addition to flight, fire breath and powerful physical attacks, it makes up the chest of the Myth Master Megazord and its wings detach and combine in order to make the Banisher Sword.
Oni Cryptizord: An Auxiliary Zord acquired midway through Season 1. This Zord changes into a Kanabo for the Myth Master Megazord to use, changing it into the Blaze Basher Megazord.
Elemental Cryptizord: A Zord that is acquired midway through Season 2, but remains erratic and disloyal up until the Season 2 finally, after which it is released. A powerful Zord with sheer strength is on par with the Myth Master Megazord. It is capable of using any of the seven Ranger Elements and once combined with the Myth Master Megazord, it forms the Grand Emperor Ultrazord, the same Ultrazord that the original Mythic Rangers used to drive back the Great King Umbrax.
Phoenix Cryptizord. A Legendary Auxiliary Zord thought destroyed during the Rise of Skrya that’s acquired by the Season 3 finale. In addition to speed and powerful blasts, it can combine with the Myth Master Megazord to form the Great Guardian Ultrazord.
Trivia:
Prior to becoming a Ranger, Alex was friends with Geoffrey and Kris. She also had a rivalry with Takeo.
Her primary hobbies prior to being a Ranger included sports of various kinds and growing her own personal garden. She also used to fish, but wasn’t able to keep it a consistent hobby once she really got into high school.
Alex is an open bisexual.

Katie strikes me as the type to study Zord tech, and in my storyverse, she does according to a storyline I’m working on. She had heard that Xandred kamikazed the Samurai Era Zords and undertook the task of putting them back together when she discovered their remains in Panorama City during a supply run. She repaired them and modded them so they could provide equipment to Voltron. This leads to the birth of the Voltron Force concept of Voltron Centers in the Legendary Defenders storyline; nobody knew she did that nor did they have any faith in Pidge’s mods until she demonstrated the abilities the Lion FoldingZord gave to Voltron when it acts as its Blazing Red Center. The Lion FoldingZord’s weapon is called the Fire Smasher RD-12, based on the Fire Smasher Broadsword Jayden used during his tenure as the Red Samurai Ranger. Since I’m on the topic, that particular variation of Voltron is also called the Leo Impact Megazord because Voltron is a Megazord class mech in my storyverse.
Katie working with other tech to try and give Voltron the center change ability that the VForce team has sounds like an amazing idea and concept to work with! While I don't know what Zords are (though Red Samurai Ranger tells me Power Rangers, which I've not seen since probably the 90s). But it does sound interesting. But, this is definitely an interesting concept. I'm liking it.

Kisekae Insights #39: Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger Part 1
As I stated in #35, I didn’t work on Gokaiger for as much time as I did Decade, so the series was basically straight-up adaptations of episodes for the most part. You can clearly tell how my passion for Super Sentai died down post-Zyuohger lmao. But seriously, despite this, my bar was to be better than Power Rangers Super Megaforce and practically anyone can manage that in fanfiction.
Let’s start off with the first nine episodes of Gokaiger, covering the introductions of new Zords and powers as we pay tribute to the icons and figures of my childhood. And if you think the Doctor doesn’t carry or use weapons and therefore shouldn’t be a Ranger, let alone GokaiRed, then allow me to provide you with this counterpoint:
youtube
Once again, the preludes are covered in #26. Sorry for taking so long to post this, a lot of things got in the way.
Prequel: Dawn of the Space Pirates
Adapted from Gokaiger episode 1, Decade episodes 18, 19 and the 199 Heroes movie. Broadcast as the Doctor Who 2017 Christmas Special.
The Zangyack Armada approaches Earth and the Doctor gathers the Gokaigers together to defeat Action Commander Shibakanen while the other Rangers defeat the rest of their landing force. Meanwhile, Hiroki Ichigo is transformed into Gyūki by the demon Suira, who transforms into the demonic ogre Dokkaebi and fights the other Rangers alongside Patrick Han, who transforms into the legendary Chinese New Year monster Nian.
Dokkaebi uses a trumpet to steal the Rangers’ powers before releasing them as physical forms, leading the Gokaigers to work with the Goseigers to fight them and return the powers to their owners. Dokkaebi takes in Nian and Gyūki’s powers to become the Krlunk Smasher, which grows giant and is defeated by the Gokaigers in the Legendary Megazord.
Episode 1: A New Adventure
Adapted from Gokaiger episodes 2, 17, 18, 21 and Boukenger episode 31.
The series opener is a triple-act featuring the Boukengers in a tribute to K-On. In the first act, the Doctor confronts a boy who steals one of his Ranger Keys after his grandfather died in the Time War (at the Battle of Shizugatake). The boy is challenged by the Doctor to try fighting the Zangyack Armada, but when he fails, the Doctor tells him to find a different way to protect Earth. While the Gokaigers fight Action Commander Bongan, the Boukengers face off against the Questers, Mig and Benglo, and their robot, the Blazing Quester.
The Gokaigers’ main task in the first episode is to find a suitable candidate to be their sixth Ranger, GokaiSilver. Near the end of the first act, the Doctor loses the Gokai Cellular and GokaiSilver Ranger Key during the fight with Bongan. Unbeknownst to them, they were picked up by Kai, who abandons his current role as BoukenSilver to fight as GokaiSilver in secret. Eventually, both teams discover Kai’s secret as he defeats the Action Commander of the second act, Almadon.
In the third act, Kai is tasked to prove that he is worthy to be GokaiSilver and he ends up confronting Action Commander Osogain alone before the Gokaigers join him, officially making Kai a Gokaiger. After Osogain is defeated, the Questers resurface with a replica of the Atlantis Temple. Though the Q-Rex is defeated, the Boukengers defeat the replica using the Boukengers’ Megazord Powers. The episode ends with Kai in the GokaiGalleon waving goodbye to his birth family.
Episode 2: The Magic of Justice
Adapted from Gokaiger episodes 3 and 5.
While the Gokaigers are tasked with gaining the cooperation with the other Ranger teams, Kai’s task is to gain the cooperation of the Sixth Rangers. Due to footage reasons, there were some plots where I needed to write out Kai, or rather relegate him to the B plot so as to not make him feel neglected. As such, Kai was separated from the others following their first confrontation with Action Commander Salamandam. Takumi Kamijō, aka MagiBlue, takes the place of Kai Ozu (MagiRed) while Marco and Alice take on the roles of the other’s original counterparts. Kai Ozu’s testing of the Gokaigers is replaced with Takumi expositing about what happened to Homura Akemi after 2013, which you can read in #18. Takumi then allows the Gokaigers to use the Magirangers’ Megazord Power, the MagiDragon, because the real test isn’t with them.
Elsewhere, Kai Hirasawa is tested by Kyōsuke Kamijō to fight Homura as Wolzard; GokaiSilver manages to defeat her initially but when it escalates to a Megazord fight, Wolzard gains the upper hand and defeats GokaiSilver. As the other Gokaigers defeat Salamandam, Kai is brought to UNIT HQ where he is tested by the Dekarangers’ Sixth Ranger, having him undergo harsh training. By undergoing the training without question or complaint, forcing himself to keep going despite the strain, Kai’s efforts allow the Gokaigers to gain the Dekarangers’ Megazord Power, the Delta Runner Zord (PAT-Striker). The Gokaigers, Dekarangers and Magirangers then work together to defeat Homura and her various Madoka Magica minions.
In the original Gokaiger episode 5, the four Gokaigers (save Red) are shown fighting footsoldiers as the Go-Ongers and Dairangers. With the equivalent fight necessitating the production of original footage, I took the chance to substitute the Dairangers for the Kyoryugers in that fight as remember, I hadn’t made the decision to implement them yet. This is just one example of how I improved upon Super Megaforce.
Episode 3: Ninjas with Attitude
The first part of a two-parter. Adapted from Gokaiger episodes 25 and 26 and Ninninger episodes 3 and 7.
This is the start of a mini-arc featuring the Gokaigers travelling internationally to visit other Ranger teams, starting off by heading to Elwood City in the US to meet the Ninningers, Kakurangers, Zyurangers and Gouraigers. The characters of Arthur are depicted as being ten years older, meaning that Arthur and his peers are college freshmen. Their character designs would be based on those created by KeysComics on DeviantArt.
General Ripcon, formerly Gabi Raizo of the Kibaoni Army, is the main villain of the two-parter, but his subordinates, Shimazu and Vexacus, are the MOTWs of the first part. Due to the aforementioned reasons regarding Hurricaneger, the crossover is not adapted with the exception of the Megazord fight between the Q-Rex Megazord and Vexacus. The other main highlight of the episode is the Gokaigers facing off against the Rangers of Elwood City in a tribute to Arthur.
There’s a bit of an allusion to the Morphin Grid in this episode. When GokaiGreen, Pink and Silver try to morph into the Gouraigers and Shurikenger, it fails and they are forced back into their base forms. It is revealed that the power emulation of the Gokai Changes don’t work if the Ranger they are morphing into is already morphed within a 2km radius. Later on, the power emulation turns into actually borrowing the Ranger’s power due to something that would happen in the finale.
In the episode, Kai makes a snide comment that the Zyurangers are weaker than the ninja Sentai because their suits and weapons are more simplistic. Since their fight was delayed by the Zangyack Armada’s attack, Kai’s opponents, Mr Ratburn (DragonRanger) and Bud Compson (KibaRanger) team up with the Tibble twins (Gouraigers) and Cameron Watanabe (Shurikenger) to teach him a lesson. GokaiSilver is defeated and he apologises to Mr Ratburn for his remark.
Episode 4: Elwood City Party Night
The second part of a two-parter. Adapted from Gokaiger episode 46 (45 was a clipshow) and Ninninger episodes 11, 12 and 43.
While the Ninningers granted their Megazord Power to the Gokaigers, the Kakurangers decided to have Cameron (who takes over Ninjaman’s role in the adaptation) test them first to see how the Gokaigers perform. Angelina, Alice and Kai take on Cameron’s training before they are attacked by Action Commander Juju. As in the original episode, Alice and Kai are affected by Juju’s arrows and the Doctor’s investigation leads him, Marco and Yui to a cave. It is then that Ripcon comes back to challenge GokaiRed, leaving the other two to confront Juju in a minor reshoot to the Sentai footage. Ripcon manages to defeat GokaiRed, but he manages to make it back to his team as they fight Juju as the Kakurangers with GokaiSilver and Shurikenger dealing with the Bruisers. The Doctor collapses and Juju is enlarged, but he is defeated by the arrival of StarNinger (who had saved the Doctor earlier) on the Bison Megazord (BisonKing).
In the second part of the episode, the Doctor is incapacitated while the Gokaigers sans Kai confront Ripcon, who is attacking the city. Despite his injuries, the Doctor joins the others and they morph into the Ninningers, Red fighting Ripcon while the others deal with the minions. Ripcon is defeated, but he is enlarged against his will, leading to Cameron granting the Gokaigers the use of Fūraimaru to defeat him with the Legendary Ninja Megazord.
Episode 5: The Megabeast Hunter
Adapted from Gokaiger episode 31 and Zyuohger episodes 23, 24 and 25.
We begin a new storyline adapted from Zyuohger with the introduction of Megabeast Hunter Bangrey. The Gokaigers head to the island of Sodor to meet the ToQgers and Ohrangers in a tribute to Thomas the Tank Engine.
As with the original, Bangrey can summon anyone by scanning their memories, though they are mostly (human) enemies from past years. In this episode, Bangrey summons Shibakanen to fight the Gokaigers before later summoning the Doctor’s very first companion, Susie Leon (or Susan Foreman) from his memories before killing him in front of the Doctor. We then get an adaptation of the Ohranger tribute as GokaiSilver fights two giant enemies in the Q-Rex Megazord while the other Gokaigers fight enemies on the ground.
Episode 6: Lion of the Samurai
Adapted from Gokaiger episodes 9, 11 and 12.
In an homage to Power Rangers being produced in New Zealand (at least at the time), this episode features the Gokaigers heading to Auckland to visit UNIT NZ, headed by Richard Yang. Former companions Yuzuru Otonashi and Kanade Tachibana also make an appearance here (in a tribute to Angel Beats) along with some others.
This episode closely adapts the Gaoranger and Shinkenger tributes, but references to Gaoranger are replaced by references to Go-Busters. As a result, the Red Lion Zord is made to be a prototype of Tategami LiOh. The Valiant II also makes its debut as a rebuild of the original being used as a hangar for Megazord development, this time disguised as a floating island much like the Animarium.
Episode 7: Friends Forever
Adapted from Gokaiger episodes 29 and 32 and Zyuohger episodes 17, 18, 19 and 26.
The Questers are joined by Bangrey and the tertiary villain of the series, Kamen Rider Fifteen.
This episode also serves as a tribute to Lucky Star, who are the Kyoryugers in this series. As such, the Kyoryugers’ secondary Megazord Power, the ability to combine into the Legendary Q-Rex Megazord, makes its debut in its episode. The Megazord’s finisher name from the Sentai, Gokai Rex Drill, is renamed to the Legendary Q-Rex Brave Finish.
Zyuoh TheWorld and its Megazord, Tousai Zyuoh, are first featured as tools of the Questers made from stolen UNIT technology. UNIT creates the GokaiGalleon Buster and grants it to the Gokaigers towards the end of the episode, with its first victim being Zyuoh TheWorld, who is freed from the Questers’ control as a result.
Episode 8: Silver and Gold
Adapted from Gokaiger episodes 19 and 40, the 199 Heroes movie and Zyuohger episodes 37 and 38. Former companion Nayu Hayama (among others) makes an appearance in this episode.
The Gokaigers (save Kai, who was tasked with bringing Zyuoh TheWorld back to UNIT HQ at the end of the last episode) decide to take a trip in the TARDIS, but due to the TARDIS not liking its occupants carrying weapons, the Doctor makes an emergency landing in May 2011, where they make their pre-series debut cameo as shown in Three Kingdoms Series 3 before quickly leaving. The Gokaigers are next shown fighting the Goseigers before the former team disappears.
Meanwhile, Kai, who is the main focus for this episode, is introduced to Cyber Knight, a “Cyberman” made by UNIT to be the Goseigers’ Sixth Ranger. Cyber Knight is able to form the Gosei Ground Megazord with the Knight Brothers Zords. As Kai and Zyuoh TheWorld are sent to deal with an attack, they encounter the Questers’ backup tool, ZyuohBird. Kai is suggested to combine the fifteen Sixth Ranger Keys into the Gold Anchor Key, allowing GokaiSilver to assume Gold Mode and defeat ZyuohBird with the Gokai Legendary Finale.
Episode 9: The Champion of Champions
Adapted from Zyuohger episodes 28 and 29, practically the main reason why I wanted to adapt Gokaiger (with post-Gokaiger Gokai Changes) in the main place.
The episode follows the Sentai episodes closely, though the past Sentai villains in the final fight are replaced by various Doctor Who monsters summoned from the Doctor’s memories by Bangrey, namely the white Supreme Dalek (from the New Dalek Paradigm), a post-Cyber War Cyberman (from Nightmare in Silver), a Sontaran, a Silurian, a Sea Devil, a Judoon and a Zygon. The same fight also features the participation of ZyuohBird.
It is revealed that the Gokaigers’ antagonism towards the Goseigers and Zyuohgers was the work of Kamen Rider Fifteen, who had managed to hypnotise the Gokaigers into believing that they had to destroy the two teams to prevent the destruction of the world. Following a brief fight, a giant Fifteen replaces Gokdos Gill in the ensuing Megazord fight. Fifteen’s powers are destroyed upon his defeat, forcing him to return to his own universe.
The closing credits of this episode and the last one also used Super Sentai Hero Getter 2016 in place of the usual closing theme. In spite of most of the teams not being adapted for this series, the song serves as a speedrun primer to Super Sentai, particularly for those who are unfamiliar with the franchise.
Next time, we’ll cover the last portion of Gokaiger along with the movies.

Ranger Rankings - Power Rangers Beast Morphers
Genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed this tbh.
Premise - 4
One part RPM, one part Lightspeed Rescue. I kind of like that they acknowledge the Morphin' Grid properly rather than just casting vague aspersions as to its existence.
The whole Morph-X thing works really well to drive the season forward and remains relevant throughout both seasons, and it gives Grid Battleforce a reason to exist outside of just fighting Evox.
I thought they might start playing with virtual reality a bit when they had the whole Avatars and Cyber Dimension stuff, but I'm kind of glad they didn't.
Character Dynamics - 3.5
Devon and Ravi felt a little flat at times. Their sole characteristics were 'video games' and 'art', outside of their relationships with the other characters. That'd be fine if it was just one season, but I didn't really feel like either of them changed too much over the course of the show, especially Devon when he's the Red Ranger.
Zoey and Nate were much better - Nate especially felt like he had a journey to go on, and he got there by the end of the season. I enjoyed that the pair of them got to get together midway through rather than at the end, so we could kind of explore them a bit more as the season progressed.
The supporting cast were also surprisingly good. Blaze and Roxy (both real and evil) were fun little foils, and the parents having an active presence for most of the show was nice since they had roles that meant they could keep popping up without needing to be forced into the plot.
I also kind of loved the Beast Bots. I thought they'd be a bit superfluous, or draw time away from the other characters, but they were there pretty much exactly as often as they were needed.
And I will not hear a bad word about Ben & Betty. They're dumb, but they mean well, and they're very funny without crossing the line into annoying or arrogant. A definite breath of fresh air after Monty and Victor last season.
Sixth Ranger Arc - 4
Steel! I love Steel. He could have easily just have existed to forward Nate's plots, but he had his own stories too, and something to strive for throughout the seasons. Him learning to be more human and then actually getting to be human is the perfect culmination, especially after his heroic sacrifice.
Plus he's a giant goofball. We love a giant goofball. "My butt is metal!"
Plot Development - 4
Were most of Evox's plans the same? Yes. But they usually had a point to them outside of the usual 'acquire Morph-X, ???, profit' angle.
There were enough subplots running through the seasons to keep everything moving. The Cybergate arc, and the data chips stuff in the first season, then the Ryjack stuff in the second one, kept everything from being too samey. I did find myself switching off during the Megazord fights, but then I've just watched 27 seasons of these so I think that's more on me than the show itself.
I also very much enjoyed how much they leaned into Ranger history; I don't think, outside of Megaforce where that was sort of the point, that any other season has used past Ranger continuity so well and so consistently. Doctor K showing up not once but twice was wonderful, and the Venjix reveal was super clever (even if I knew it was coming).
Villains - 4
Evox in the first season is great fun. I love that giant snake design, it really works well for me, and he loses a little bit in the second season after he becomes a robot full time. His mini arc pretending to be the Mayor was fun, but it felt like it ended a bit quick.
Scrozzle, stupid name aside, was pretty good too. I liked the banter with the other minions. There's something about 'put upon evil genius' that works for me.
Both sets of Roxy and Blaze were fun, probably moreso in the second season where the stakes felt a little higher.
And I love that they keep bringing back Sledge and Poisandra; they know that they're fun, we know that they're fun, so they just give us what we want.
Team-Up - 5
Yes, another 5, leave me alone. Seeing the Dino Charge Rangers again was great, and the plot they came up with to get everyone together built up nicely rather than just appearing out of nowhere for the crossover.
I also found the villain clip-show episode in the middle oddly fun, since it wasn't just a clip-show for the season I'd literally just watched.
It's a shame they weren't able to get any more of the Dino Rangers back; just having Jason there, while nice, felt a little weak.
But that triple Megazord fight at the end? Perfect.
Overall - 4.08
Hottest Ranger - Nate's the cutest, but Ravi and his arms win this one.
Notable Episodes:
The Cybergate Opens - The end of the first big arc of the series, and the arrival of the Gold and Silver Rangers.
Finders Keepers/Making Bad/Grid Connection - Dino Rangers, unite!
The Silva Switch - Body swap! Singing! Yesss!
Crunch Time/Source Code/Evox Unleashed - A big, high stakes finale with some excellent reveals and a guest star I'm always happy to see.

Jason’s epic Power Coin flip.
Reblog if you agree.
Keeper comes to Grid Battleforce via his ship in order to bring bad tidings of a vision that the Morphing Grid had sent him. One of many Rangers falling to many foes as well as Devon being hit by a meteor. I think I recall that this was the original plan for Troy’s arc in Megaforce where he was connected to the Grid itself. Nice to see that idea being put to better use in a similar crossover.
Devon is skeptical about the vague visions and decides to hit up a video game tournament with Cruise until further notice. Said notice comes sooner than expected as Tyler contacts GB Command on Snide and Goldar Maximus’s invasion of the Dino Dimension. I definitely love how the video call is shot as if being found footage from a war zone. The action in the background sells it well.
Cruise gets Devon lost on the road only for a meteorite to actually strike and nearly take them out. Weirdest Deus Ex Machina ever. Meanwhile, the Beast Rangers arrive to face Goldar Maximus only for Dino Charge to lose four Energems. As I said, I love that this has been a five parter rather than a self-contained special. This episode really feels the culmination of something huge.
Devon reports the meteorite to GB Command and shows that it seems to have electromagnetic properties that nearly disrupt the HQ’s systems. With Ravi’s distress signal received, the Red Rangers gets the bold idea to call for help via the Morph-X Towers and across the Grid itself. He even used the Meteorite to help shield himself from the intensity of the energy itself. That... makes sense?
The meteorite somehow “morphs” into the Tyrannosaurs Power Coin and gets the Grid to summon Jason, played once more by Austin St. John. All the while, the Rangers spy on Evox and discover that they’re creating a Zord from six types of dinosaur DNA along with their Energems. The same method that Shelby did in creating the Spino Zord. Cross-series continuity. Ain’t it a beaut?
Jason and Devon reconvene with the Rangers just in time to give out a plan that’ll draw their enemies away with one party while the Beast Rangers stop Evox from creating a Chimera Zord. Jason leads Dino Charge to face Goldar Maximus and Snide before giving the signal for the rest of his team to burst onto the scene along with Dino Thunder. As Tyler often declares, it gets wild.
The battle benefits from being adapted from Kyoryuger Vs. Go-Busters since specials and movie go all out on the effects. You go Ivan and Kira taking out mooks by gliding Jetman style. Riley and Trini get up close with their melee weapons. Zack and Koda bring on some prehistoric power side by side. Dino Thunder even busts out the gold old Z Rex Blaster to take Snide out for good.
Robo-Roxy is taken out by Ivan, leaving Robo-Blaze to warn Evox. All the while, Goldar Maximus makes his last stand when all the Dino Rangers bring their combining weapons together and blast him to Kingdom Come. Meanwhile, the Beast Rangers are too late to stop the Chimera Zord from burrowing into the Earth but still manage to take Robo-Blaze out of the picture with the King Bow.
The Chimera Zord bursts onto the scene in all its CGI glory with Jason comparing it to Serpenterra. I’m guessing that they used portals to bring out their Zords from points in time where they hadn’t been destroyed. We even get breif footage of the Dino Megazord and Thundersaurus Megazord’s cockpits along the way. Now I can seeing why Hasbro had pushed to adapt this team up.
Devon joins in on the fun with the Beast X King Zord and combines it with the Dino Charge Megazord to deliver the finisher. I wish they had that announcer belt out, “Dino Charge Megazord Beast King Formation.” All the same, Evox flies the coup before his Chimera Zord is completely destroyed. Virus Extinct!
The teams say their goodbyes as Dino Thunder returns to Reefside. I wish they mentioned to Jason that they’ll say, “Hi,” to Tommy for him. They’re clearly from during their season with their Dino Gems powering their suits. Speaking of suits, I don’t think there’s much in-universe reasoning to keep Shelby and Riley morphed. What are they hiding? Embarrassing hair-cuts? At least joke about it.
Even so, the Beast vs. Dino team up comes to a close. I’ll say that it’s only weakness is the emphasis on the Dino Rangers towards the end since they were adapting a Kyoryuger team up with Go Busters. Even so, they did pretty well in weaving the story across five whole episode rather than dump it all one single special. I can see newer fans getting interested in previous season too.
Now we enter the real endgame for Evox. The gloves are about to come off.

Power Rangers Bushido Blades
(Logo by @masterpikachu6)
Long ago in ancient Japan there lived a mighty shogun, loved by his people he ruled during an era of peace until a dark threat rose. The Akukai, monstrous beings created from the spirits of the dishonorable dead began to attack the innocent.
Fortunately an order of monks and priestesses discovered a way to infuse kanji with a person’s spiritual essence creating the ability of Kanji-Ryuko. By using a Kanji Command warriors could unleash incredible attacks and abilities. The Shogun studied this ability and had a group of handpicked warriors study it as well. The order also provided a series of talisman to the samurai to give them further power in battle. Using this ability the group of samurai was able to fend off the invasion and finally the Shogun gravely wounded the leader of the Akukai, Chionio (Blood Demon King) as he and the rest of the warriors created a seal to keep the monsters trapped. However in the resulting explosion they were caught in a seal themselves.
Many centuries later the conditions were just right to break the seals releasing both groups. Chionio was still healing from his wounds so his followers attacked the world to avenge him as the samurai aim to ward them off once more as the Power Rangers Bushido Blades!
Red Bushido Ranger- Takeshi Hakuryu*- The shogun of a great land long ago. While he may act arrogant and prideful he truly cares about those under his rule. When he awoke in the modern day he was devastated to learn his land fell while he was gone. His spirit roars like a mighty inferno as he wields the Burning Broadsword. His talisman becomes the Lion Bushido Zord Face Claim: Steven Yeun
Blue Bushido Ranger- Daisuke Shimizu*- A great warrior who once fought the shogun in battle. Once he was disarmed he continued to fight, as he braced himself for the killing blow he was shocked Takeshi had chosen to spare his life. Awed by his power and mercy he swore his life to him. Even after all the centuries he keeps to his vow. His spirit is as powerful as a rushing river as he wields the Rainfall Bow and Arrows. His talisman becomes the Dragon Bushido Zord Face Claim: Ross Butler
Yellow Bushido Ranger-Yoshiko Doi*- A member of the order who discovered Kanji-Ryuko. She is highly skilled in the use of it however her combat ability is lacking at first. She is quiet and contemplative however she opens up around close friends. Her spirit is as solid as a rock as she wields the Boulder Cutter. Her talisman becomes the Monkey Bushido Zord Face Claim: Sakurako Okubo
Green Bushido Ranger-Shun Kobayashi*- A cunning ninja who heard tales of the shogun’s power. He spied on him for weeks watching him until witnessing his full power in a battle. As an enemy attempted to attack the exhausted shogun from behind he cut them down with a quick attack. In gratitude Takeshi welcomed him even after he revealed he knew he had been spying on him the whole time. His spirit grows like the lush forest as he wields the Leaf Spear. His talisman becomes the Bear Bushido Zord Face Claim: Osric Chau

Power Rangers Beast Morphers season 2 theory
So... Beast Morphers season 2. Basically all we know about it is that the idea of the Dino War will be used and that the Beast Morphers rangers will gain the Beast-X mode, otherwise known as Powered Custom. The former- the Dino War- is what I want to talk about.
Evox's thing is that he wants to take over the Morphin Grid, right? I was wondering how that would tie in to the Dino War, but then I realized that the dinosaur teams have the oldest connections to the grid (at least from our point of view)- the Mighty Morphin' powerset is at least 10,000 years old, the Dino Gems arrived on Earth in the meteor shower that brought around the end of the dinosaurs, and the Energems are what caused the meteors in the first place. That means that these connections form the root of the Grid, and that if these are disrupted, the whole Grid would be shaken, and it's more likely than not that other teams (i.e. Beast Morphers) would be affected as well.
This is how I envision the Dino War coming about:
Jason Lee Scott, the first Mighty Morphin' Red, comes to the Beast Morphers team to tell them that his team has been feeling that there is something wrong lately. (Their powers were restored during the Legendary Battle.) He's heard from Tommy Oliver, who was also on the Dino Thunder team, that his team is also feeling that their connection to the Grid has become shaky. Jason suspects that the disturbance may have something to do with Evox, seeing as the Grid is metaphysical and can only really be entered by non-living beings.
Cut to the Cyber Dimension, where Roxy is gloating about her plan to Blaze. Apparently Evox figured out how to send a small amount of his virus into the Grid, but only enough to disrupt the connection of several teams and no more. Her idea was that Evox, instead of blocking the Beast Morphers team's connection as he originally intended to do, should disrupt the connections of the dinosaur teams, which are the oldest and sort of form the base of the Morphin Grid. Roxy believes that should these connections fall apart, the whole Grid would start to unravel, making all the connections stop working and letting Evox take over the Grid with no resistance. Blaze agrees that it is a good idea, but that there is no telling if the Beast Morphers rangers will be able to figure out what's up.
Back to Grid Battleforce. Nate, in accordance with the info he recieved from Jason, creates a holographic model of the Grid and discovers that three of the connections are unraveling- the three that form the core of the Morphin Grid. Ravi quickly catches on to the fact that two of the connections are those of Mighty Morphin' and Dino Thunder, but it's Devon who supplies that the third is that of Dino Charge. As he explains about the Dino Charge world, a portal opens and reveals four of the Dino Charge rangers: Tyler, Chase, Koda and Ivan. Chase explains that their dino chargers have stopped working almost entirely, and that Keeper had confirmed that the source was the main world, so they used Koda's transportal device to get there.
After Zoey and Nate try to explain what's going on, Devon pulls Jason and Tyler aside for a strategy meeting, but they're interrupted by a monster attack. It turns out that the attackers are avatars of the dino teams' nemeses- Sledge, Mesogog and Rita Repulsa- accompanied by a distorted version of Goldar. Chase, Koda and Ivan head out to battle them, and are joined in short order by Ethan, Kimberly and Billy. (Yep, this is how I'm using that scene from the trailer.) Meanwhile, the Beast Morphers team, Tyler and Jason discuss how to rejoin the dino teams to the Morphin Grid.
When Blaze and Roxy see that the dino rangers still have their powers (they forgot that they could only disrupt, not disconnect) they freak, and get to the battlefield as soon as possible. Zoey, Ravi and Steel head out to help the other rangers while Nate works on something that might help reconnect the rangers to the Grid and the red rangers talk strategy. After a while the red rangers head out to the battle, and they can't help but be surprised by the chaos. Some time later, Nate gets his "Eureka" moment and manages to restore the Grid, allowing some of the other dino rangers to join the battle- Aisha (because nobody can find Trini, or Tommy for whatever reason, or Trent), Zack, Conner and Kira. Somehow Riley and Shelby have figured out how to make another transportal device (Tyler isn't surprised at all- aside from Kendall, they're the two smartest people he knows) because they also join the battle at the last minute.
Evox, enraged at his plan being foiled, has Scrozzle send down a bunch of gigadrones in order to defeat the rangers that way. Tyler, Koda and Shelby open a portal and call their zords through, and the Beast Morphers rangers also call in their zords- but then Zoey remembers that the Mighty Morphin' and Dino Thunder zords were destroyed. Nate comforts her and figures out that if Jason and Conner imbue some of their energy into one of Tyler's dino chargers, manifestations of their zords- and through them, their megazords- should be able to appear. Everything goes according to plan, and all of the gigadrones are defeated, so the rangers say their goodbyes and go their seperate ways.
In the Cyber Dimension, Evox rages at Roxy because her plan failed and swears to utterly destroy the dino rangers as soon as he has control of the Morphin Grid.
So that's my idea for the Dino War. What do you think?

Pink Bushido Ranger- Rin Kazehaya*- An assassin hired to slay the shogun she got within striking distance when the shogun blocked her attack. Kisekae Insights #26: The Superhero Project Prelude (a preview of things to come)
(Art by blakehunter)
My journey into tokusatsu began in 2013 when I watched Power Rangers Samurai on television and was enthralled at the use of kanji in the series. This led me to learn about Super Sentai through watching its counterpart, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. Later, I began to learn about Kamen Rider through watching Decade thanks to its crossover arc with Shinkenger, which would lead me to watch other Super Sentai and Kamen Rider series. Eventually, I also learnt about Metal Heroes through watching crossover movies and Ultramen after watching some episodes of Orb online out of curiosity (Ultraman was on TVB through satellite back in the day, though I never really cared for it).
While the adaptations of Super Sentai and Kamen Rider in Gokaiger and Decade were among the initial elements teased and hyped for the Moushouden Series, it should be noted that they had their roots in previous series. In the final instalment of the second run of Kisekae Insights, allow me to walk you through how I implemented Super Sentai before 2018 and give you all a little bit of a preview of what is to come.
Samurai Mode: The prototype powers
The second half of Series 9 in 2014 featured the Doctor and his companions becoming beta testers for the Superhero Project in the form of Samurai Mode. The arsenal of Shinkenger was adapted, but the names were kept close to their adaptation counterparts, with the exception of the core rangers’ morphers, which are named the ShodoPhones. The Samurai Morpher and the Gold Ranger’s powers were the first to be developed for alpha testing; their tester, Hiroki’s assistant who was also one of his “triad” comrades, would go on to become ShinkenGold when the Superhero Project was launched. Akari had also managed to get her hands on a ShodoPhone as well, presumably having been stolen from UNIT.
Red Samurai Ranger: Hiroki Ichigo
Blue Samurai Ranger: Momoka Mizutani
Pink Samurai Ranger: Angelina Mouseling
Green Samurai Ranger: The Doctor
Yellow Samurai Ranger: Satoyuki Saitō
Gold Samurai Ranger: Hiroki’s assistant
Female Red Samurai Ranger: Akari Ichigo
Samurai Mode was first used by the Doctor and his companions on Destination One, but unlike in Shinkenger, they weren’t fighting demons or monsters; they were fighting Girl Power and their allies. Following that adventure, the Doctor passed his ShodoPhone on to Storm Dasher, who used it when he fought Lord Tirek alongside Twilight Sparkle on Equestria. Dasher did not transform into the Green Samurai Ranger, but he did temporarily transform into an alicorn – an unintentional foreshadowing of things to come in the Moushouden Series. Dasher gave his ShodoPhone back to the Doctor at the end of the episode.
As for the other five, they went on to fight at Sekigahara, Osaka and Kyoto (Honnōji and Nijō Castle), though they never used their Samurai Mode powers at Sekigahara. The Doctor would rejoin them when they fought the final battle in Yokohama as he had been on Trenzalore during the events of the Series 9 finale.
The year after, I wrote a “director’s cut” version of the arc which is basically just a remake but with the Samurai Mode powers given more prominence than they did during the series while also toning down on influences from Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors and Final Fantasy. I also used Mega Mode outside of a Megazord setting (instead of it being a combination of power-ups) and featured Megazord finishers on human-sized opponents with the Mega Blade. Because the events of the director’s cut version are different to the original episodes, I consider them to be non-canon.
The road of the Xtreme Legend
Before Gokaiger and Decade premiered, a set of prelude stories were made for Series 10 and 11 in 2017; to complement the BBC Series 8 and 9 having 12 episodes each, I write a total of four episodes – one to replace Deep Breath (titled The Advent of the Doctor), two extra original episodes (one for each series) and an original Christmas Special (titled Dawn of the Space Pirates).
After Girl Power’s defeat, everyone began focusing on their high school studies. By 2016, the first wave of UNIT’s Superhero Project teams were launched; alongside the new Shinkengers led by Akari that replaced the beta testing team, the Gekirangers, Go-Ongers, Goseigers and Zyuohgers were formed as well. The five teams got into a conflict with the Doctor, Hiroki and his assistant while they were investigating a conspiracy involving the Clockwork Droids harvesting organs from students who had committed suicide over their studies and a company giving students unfair advantages in their studies (through cheating).
The year after everyone graduated high school (2017), Hiroki, Akari and Narutaki discover the return of Kawakara, the lost city of Akari’s grandfather, Antoni. Later that year, Narutaki went missing after she and Hiroki were freed from the possession of Evil Death (the Grim Reaper, not to be mistaken for Good Death based on the character played by Simon Farnaby in Horrible Histories) and her role as ShinkenBlue was replaced by another member of Girl Power. Around the same time, Takumi Kamijō and his team at Torchwood Pleiades became the Magirangers after testing a prototype system during the Superhero Project’s beta testing phase.
That Christmas, Hiroki encountered a demon named Suira, also named Sui after the demon in Chinese folklore that explained the origin of money in red pockets. Suira transformed Hiroki into Gyūki after having done so 17 years earlier in an effort to help him get revenge on his parents after being sent to time out. Meanwhile, the Doctor began gathering up the Gokaigers in response to the Zangyack Armada’s vanguard fleet attacking cities. They fought Shikabanen before they help the other Rangers fight Suira, who had transformed into a demonic orge named Dokkaebi (based in Korean folklore) and later combined with Gyūki and Nian (the Chinese New Year Monster) to become the Krlunk Smasher. Although the Rangers defeat the Krlunk Smasher, he grows giant and the Gokaigers form the Legendary Megazord to defeat it.
From the Doctor’s point of view, the 2017 Christmas Special and the events of Gokaiger take place between Series 11 and 12 – after Hell Bent but before The Husbands of River Song and the episodes featuring Nardole, which are collectively known as the Nardole Saga.
A look at the first wave teams
So in summary, the first wave of Superhero Project teams shown in the preludes to Gokaiger and Decade are the Magirangers, Gekirangers, Go-Ongers, Shinkengers, Goseigers, Gokaigers and Zyuohgers. For the most part, the names of their arsenal are derived from their original Super Sentai series, but there are a couple of exceptions; the Shinkengers’ arsenal uses the names from Power Rangers Samurai (as stated earlier) while the Gokaigers’ Zords and Megazord combinations uses names derived from Power Rangers Super Megaforce.
Very few teams had Megazords in Gokaiger due to time constraints; in fact, the only teams that have Megazords featured (aside from the Gokaigers) are those that have a button on their morphers to summon or combine their Zords. Out of the teams in the first wave, the Zyuohgers are in this category, though Cyber Knight and the Gosei Ground Megazord would appear mid-way into Gokaiger.
Speaking of the Shinkengers, what happened to the beta testers for the Superhero Project? Hiroki would go on to become Kamen Rider Decade; Hiroki’s assistant would retain his equipment and become ShinkenGold; the Doctor and Angelina would become part of the Gokaigers; and Momoka and Satoyuki would resign. The ShodoPhones were handed back to UNIT and four of the new Shinkengers received the Samuraizers (from Samurai) as their morphers; Akari retained her ShodoPhone when she became the official ShinkenRed.
Power-ups for the Shinkengers and Goseigers were also introduced; the Black Box and Shark Disc were introduced in Series 9, while the Super Goseigers were introduced in the 2017 Christmas Special.
And that’s all I’m going to tease for the third run of Kisekae Insights. As I stated in the last instalment, this is going to be final instalment of the second run as I want to focus on other things, including the Doctor Who Series 13 reviews and finishing off my personal project. I don’t know when I’ll begin work on the third run, but right now, I’m currently dreading the time until then because of various things, particularly in regards to current affairs.
Kisekae Insights will return, but be warned that things might not be the same. I leave you with my take on an English version of the Shinkenger opening song that I wrote in 2018 after being inspired by Psychic Lover’s take on it. For the most part it’s the same, but I modified the lyrics to fit with the tone of the Shinkenger arc in Series 9.
That’s it again from me. Don’t forget to follow me on Facebook and Tumblr to see more of my posts.
Samurai Sentai Shinkenger English Lyrics (modified by me)

Nate’s Ranger Vault aka Every Toy Collector’s Wet Dream. :P
Don’t lie, y’all were Ben and Betty in that scene.
One thing I’ll give credit to Nick in their hiatuses would be how the season structures its story around them so it feels like we’re ending one part and beginning another. It helps that they stop on a cliffhanger in order to keep viewers anticipating the second half. Now if only Nick could market it more.
Evox’s exposure forces Grid Battleforce to shut down all the towers and find a way to contain the virus in his more vulnerable state. Nate proposes going all Time Force with hyper-freeze arrow, combining the Beast X Ultra Blaster with the King Bow. I like how Beast Morphers is adapting Super Sentai elements into their Go Busters adaptation. Methinks Toei and Hasbro are compensating a bit.
Devon isn’t about to let Evox drag down his father if he can help it and discovers records of Dillion of RPM suffering from similar aliments. While I already enjoy the RPM callbacks, I feel like they could’ve gone a step further with Devon stumbling upon Doctor K’s warning to the world of Venjix’s attack. Maybe leave out the Gigadrone battle to get us up to speed on a past season.
The Rangers engage Bulldozertron as part of their diversion to use a truck of Morph-X to draw out Evox. Blaze and Roxy engage the Beetle Brothers in a fairly fun battle with the truck doors, dragging the Tronics out of the driver seat. Beast-X Mode makes short work of the Robotron while Steel takes out the entire truck with Blaze and Roxy on it, striking the volatile Morph-X tank directly.
While the Beast-X King Megazord takes out a Gigadrone, Doctor K gets back to Devon with Olivia Tennet reprising the role after so long. Her technobabble was a real treat but the highlight was how we got to see the RPM lab with that turbine shadow in the background, a really cool detail. While nothing from RPM can help, she knows of the Split Emitters that helped Xenowing in Dino Charge.
Pffft. RPM? Dino Charge? That’s a load of fanservice that’ll go nowhere. :P
Devon and the Bumbling Burkes raid Nate’s Ranger Vault where the twin gush over the merch-I MEAN, weaponry that veterans have wield against evil. Okay but really, it does work well that Nate not only uses the Morphing Grid as a renewable power source but also studied past Power Rangers tech to create his arsenal. It opens new fans to the wider franchise with all the name dropping.
Evox tries to siphon the only tower still online and even uses some of his powers to pull a Kylo Ren on the Hyper-Freeze Arrow, nearly turning it on the Rangers. Devon gets in the way but Evox morphs into Mayor Daniels to try appealing to his sentimentality. He seems to pass unopposed until Devon transports all the Split Emitters to Evox’s exact location and starts the process.
I will say that they could’ve kept the Split Emitters a secret up until that very moment, surprising us with a major callback to Dino Charge out of the blue. In any case, Devon gets his dad back and leaves Evox licking his wounds with little Morph-X to so much as stand. I still appreciate that the main villains this time has to sneak around the Rangers and not be OP but sitting on their butts.
Meanwhile, the Bumbling Burkes use the Split Emitters to get their dad’s outfit out of the block of permafrost. It... goes as well as you’d expect. Personally, I often find the pair funnier with their more straight-laced dad to bounce off of.
