Note
I am looking for a fic where Blaine and Kurt are dating in high school. I think they live together and Blaine's family is wealthy. If I am not mistaken his grandfather owns an NFL team.
Sorry, I am struggling to find this one.
I could point you to the high school tag, but coming up blank that his grandfather owned an NFL team. Two other tags on A03: anderson family or blaine anderson's parents. Maybe someone will know what it is! Thanks! ~Jen

Forced to face the burden of overseeing two estates while raising young children on his own, life is full but not complete. Nothing To Write Home About
@lilyvandersteen once upon a time you tagged me in a post, saying that I should draw some inspiration from it
Here it is after God knows how long
On AO3
Usually, going grocery shopping with Dan is nothing to write home about.
Well, except for Dan, who seems particularly excited to talk about the “cocoflowers” and the “fissies” he saw in the supermarket to his grandfather, who usually listens far too intently.
Anyways.
This time around, though, Kurt thinks he will definitely be the home telling the story to his father because one minute, Dan was by his side, sucking on his pointing finger while holding the hem of his jacket, and the next, Dan is not there anymore.
All it took for this disappearing act to occur is Kurt reaching up for the good box of mac’n’cheese.
Damn you, Annie’s.
“Dan?”
At first, Kurt is not particularly worried. It’s not unusual for Dan to just wander around, particularly this close to the snacks aisle, and he returns to Kurt’s side the minute he hears his name.
But as the seconds feel more and more like leaded minutes, Kurt feels a cold sweat covering his back.
“Dan?!”
The basket lays somewhere on the floor, and now Kurt is running through the supermarket, slaloming between bewildered customers to find his son.
“Excuse me?”
Someone approaches behind him and Kurt twirls on his heel. A stranger carries Dan on his hip, a small smile on his lips.
Now let’s pause for a moment here, as Kurt’s brain fries just a little bit at the sight of said stranger.
The part of his brain that is not rushing on adrenaline, coffee and worries anyway.
Kurt may be a parent, but he has eyes (and hormones): the man holding his kid looks …
Good.
Very good.
That jacket, which is the same one Kurt is wearing, what a man of good taste for sure, does wonder for his shorter but sturdier figure.
Daddy likey.
Speaking of Daddy, back to our tale.
“Dan!”
Before going to Kurt, Dan pats the stranger’s cheek in a gesture so reminiscent of his own father’s goodbye that he has to bite his lips to keep from laughing.
“Where have you been?” Kurt asks as he pulls Dan close to him. “And who are you?” he adds, turning to the stranger who is, damn him, still smiling at them with a smile Kurt wants to taste.
Since things can and will get stranger, the man holds up his hand like he rescues lost children for a living. “Blaine Anderson,” he introduces himself.
Kurt blinks. And blinks again.
Until Dan whispers in that not so discreet whisper, “Daddy, you’re supposed to fake the mifter’s hand.”
“Oh, right,” Kurt says, going back to his senses, shaking Blaine’s hand.
That’s a nice hand. Kurt likes that hand.
“Kurt. Hummel. And this is Dan.”
“So I gathered,” Blaine replies, his smile widening as Dan wiggles his fingers at him.
Shit, his son is better at flirting than him.
Though Kurt is not sure him grinning and waving at a stranger would be as cute.
“It seems that Dan confused me for you because of our jackets,” Blaine continues, finally--alas--letting go of Kurt’s hand. “I didn’t even realize he was following me out of the store until he pulled on it.”
“Thank you for bringing him back,” Kurt says, rubbing his cheek on top of Dan’s head. “It’s the first time I meet someone wearing the same clothes as me.”
“Not as well though,” Blaine replies softly, his voice warm and melodious.
If there is such a thing as a siren in human form, then Blaine Anderson may be one of them, and yes, Kurt is waxing poetics about a man he literally just met, so sue him.
“Oh.”
“Daddy, you need to fay fank you to Blaine for faying fomefing nice.”
Dan is frowning at Kurt as he chastises him.
“Right, fank--I mean, thank you.”
Blaine’s cheeks turn a discreet shade of pink, no doubt no match for Kurt’s red ones. “No need to thank me for simply stating the truth,” Blaine adds, fidgeting with his grocery bag. “Um. I should--I should get going. Now,” he adds, tapping his finger lightly on Dan’s nose, much to his delight, “you stay with your daddy from now on, okay?”
“Otay.”
Blaine chuckles before looking up, straight into Kurt’s eyes (and heart and soul, and oh, fuck you).
“And you, Kurt Hummel, have a nice day,” Blaine says, his voice seemingly dropping as he, the adorable fucker, winks at Kurt before leaving.
Two thoughts cross Kurt’s mind there and then.
I hate to see you go, but sweet it is to watch you go.
And
Who the fuck winks?!? And why is it so effective???
“Daddy.”
“Yes, mijo?
“Blaine is weally p’etty.”
“Yes he is.”
“Much more p’etty than Adam.”
“Dan, we agreed not to say his name anymore.”
Dan nods wisely, looking down at his t-shirt before clapping his hands.
In that moment, he looks far too much like Santana when she has one of her master plans for Kurt’s liking.
“We should invite him fo’ a playdate!” Dan exclaims, his smile going from ear to ear.
“A what?”
“A playdate!”
Kurt focuses on not thinking about what kind of games he’d like to play with Blaine--it bears repeating that he doesn’t know a thing about the guy beyond his name, his taste in clothes and the fact that he is not a kidnapper.
Though he wouldn’t mind getting to know him better.
“Get to know him biblically,” his inner Santana cackles, and he hates that she is right.
“You know what, mijo? That’s a great idea.”
“I know.”
“Go get him.”
Kurt lets Dan down on his feet with a little pat to his back.
Dan takes off running, a dimple in his cheek as he focuses on his mission as Kurt picks up the basket and follows him.
Maybe something to write home about after all.
(Santana doesn’t even give him hell for turning their son into a “dark golden retriever”, but she never lets him forget.
Not even at his and Blaine’s wedding.)

another blaine’s parents/home life headcanon
There is a big age difference between Pam (Blaine’s mother) and Todd (Blaine’s father). Pam got pregnant with Cooper when she was 18 years old. She was a single mother working most of the day at a diner and taking night college classes a few times a week. She was 21 and Todd was 40 when they met. He was an immigrant from the Philippines and also didn’t have much money. They became friends and Pam ended up getting kicked out of her house since she could no longer pay the rent. Todd took her in and Pam + her 5 year old son moved in with Todd. Todd worked as a salesman and the company he worked for started expanding. Todd was a very smart salesman and as the company expanded he started making more and more sales which meant he made more money. The company realized how valuable Todd was and made sure to give him raises. Pam was still living with Todd and needed money desperately and Todd decided that if he was ever going to get a wife he better get one soon. Pam+Todd went on a few dates before making an arrangement to just get married. They moved into a bigger house and spoiled Cooper with material things (he was already spoiled in love/affection). A couple years after being married, Pam got pregnant with Blaine. It came as a shock to both of them. The pregnancy made Pam+Todd close for a while but once Blaine was about a year old they went back to their lives. Pam got a job at a cosmetics company so she had her parents babysit Blaine and Cooper. Once Cooper was 13, they no longer needed the grandparents to be around that much. Cooper was supposed to stay home and watch Blaine but he would sneak out to hang out with friends or invite them over while making sure Blaine stayed in his room. The way Blaine and Cooper were raised was very different: Cooper being the only child with his mother who always made time for him (no matter how tired) and Todd who didn’t work as much was constantly showered with their love. He was planned to be Pam’s one and only child so she made sure to do it right by going to every event Cooper was in and being there for him. Blaine on the other hand grew up a lonely child. Todd and Pam worked a lot, Cooper always pushed him to the side, and he was a really shy child. There were times where Cooper would forget to pick him up from his lessons (either piano or violin) and he would sit on a bench waiting for hours. The only times he was truly happy was with his grandparents or when he got to visit relatives in the Philippines. His grandparents gave him all their love. He has fond memories of celebrating the holidays with them (Passover, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Hanukkah for a few examples) and they would go to fun places and make him actual home-cooked food. They also took an actual interest in his life. Also a couple times he and his father went to the Philippines for the summer (his father could afford to do that since the company he worked for was international and he could do business in the Philippines). Blaine loved meeting his relatives who, like his grandparents, took an interest in his life and paid attention to him. In school, Blaine only had a few friends and got teased for multiple reasons: he wore bowties, had really curly hair, wore glasses, was really small/scrawny, and was asian (kids in Ohio schools are really racist; probably since most people in the small towns are white). Unlike Cooper, whenever Blaine had something special going on, his parents didn’t go. They were always too busy with work for him. Whenever his parents were home though, Blaine really saw the rifts in their marriage. Pam was really unhappy and lonely in the marriage. She was drunk a lot and always had some amount of alcohol in her system when she was home. She worked less than Todd and whenever Todd went on business trips her loneliness would get the better of her. She hooked up with other men and Blaine knew because she would do it while he was in the house. His parents fought a lot when they were actually in the house at the same time. Todd ended up finding out about Pam’s cheating (which she used the excuse she was lonely) and Todd just started being unfaithful to Pam too. Infidelity was a normalized thing in the Anderson household. They were a household that cared a lot about appearances too. So whenever they all had to go to fancy dinner parties or just public in general, they were always dressed as nice as could be and they all acted like one big happy family. Blaine came out as gay when he was 13 years old. He didn’t actually plan to come out, it just sort of happened. Blaine was having dinner with his parents+grandparents and the subject of homosexuality came up. They were being homophobic and Blaine couldn’t take it. He just got up and walked out of the room. Blaine’s grandmother and grandfather both went to talk to him. He sat teary-eyed on his bed as he told them he was gay. They walked out of the room and right out of the house telling Todd+Pam that they didn’t feel comfortable in their house anymore on the way out. Pam, being drunk (even in front of her parents), was unresponsive and continued nibbling on her meal. Todd was confused and went to see what happened. He found Blaine in his bedroom with the door open sobbing into his pillow. He asked Blaine what he had done but Blaine refused to answer. Todd threatened Blaine (with getting in trouble not violence) and said he would find out anyways by just calling Pam’s parents. Blaine reluctantly told his father he was gay. Todd yelled at him and told him stuff like ‘don’t say that’, ‘how would you know that?’, and ‘you just need to find the right woman’. His father started paying attention to Blaine after that. He did masculine things with Blaine like building a car and watching football. He tried to get Blaine interested in girls by asking about them a lot and pointing some out and being like ‘look at her. What do you think of her? Isn’t she gorgeous?’. It was incredibly damaging for Blaine especially when some kid told the rest of the school Blaine was gay. Blaine only had two people who would even refer to him as his real name at school, Lucy and the only other out gay kid (Evan). They were a trio of outcasts who were forced to face the bullying together. All of the other students only ever called him the f slur and nothing else. The bullying was really intense and along with his father trying to straighten him out, he was literally in a living hell. One day he snapped at his father. He yelled at him to stop trying to make him straight because it’s never going to happen before going to his room, climbing out the window, and running to Evan’s house. He stayed there for a few days before finally returning home. His father started to pick up work again and Todd+Blaine avoided each other. Nothing that happened really registered with Pam since she drank while at home. The Sadie Hawkins incident is actually when Cooper first found out Blaine was gay. He moved to L.A. when he was 18 (which Todd was not happy about) and he and Blaine were not close at all. Some of Blaine's resentment for Cooper showed up at the fact that even while he was in the hospital, Cooper didn’t go back to Ohio. The only support he got from his brother was one measly phone call. Todd visited the hospital a couple times. He was of course upset his son was injured but he couldn’t help but feel like it was Blaine’s fault. Blaine already knew his school was homophobic so why would he go to a dance with another boy? Blaine kicked Todd out after Todd expressed that opinion and Todd just didn’t show up again. Pam visited the hospital as much as she could. The fact that her son was bashed sobered her up (for a while) and made her realize she had missed most of her son’s life (until she forgot about him again). Blaine also never did get to see Lucy (so he thought) or Evan again. Blaine’s relationship with his parents turned back into what it was before once he started at Dalton. He pretty much never saw them (he boarded at Dalton and mostly didn’t go home on the weekends since he knew his parents would be working) and they just threw money his way to make up for their shitty parenting.

How would the families rank in power against each other? The Delacroix are the supposed powerhouse of NMC but Sera’s the only Delacroix left and while she’s a nymph and people probably have some remaining fear of her family to an extent, I can’t imagine how’d they’d stack up on an actual legal (or not) battle against each other)
Summary of least to most power: Delacroix < Anderson < Castella/Moreno < Conti. Detailed explanations below the cut.
In their prime, the Delacroix family beat everyone out. Now they’re pretty much out of the picture.
Several incidents with the Anderson family, including Lucas’ disownment, his parents’ deaths, Julian’s death, their grandfather’s gambling addiction, scandals with cousins, etc. sent the family into relative ruin by the start of the Keeper series. They’ve lost a lot of their financial/power, although the family name still holds weight.
The Moreno family still has their political/financial power intact and is under the stable control of Nicolas Moreno. However, there’s no real suitable heir in the mainline, given that Nicolas only has one surviving child, Elodia, who’s seen as flightly/unstable since Danae’s death. Reyna is dead/a war criminal, and Nicolas doesn’t find Renatus calculating enough to lead the family. It’s likely Nicolas could end up choosing a niece/nephew/cousin as heir, but as he hasn’t, there’s a threat of instability later if Elodia takes over and/or abdicates to her son. The scandal over Reyna’s actions also made the family name take a hit, but Nicolas’ was able to maintain a hold onto most of his power anyway, even if the scandal resulted Patil-Conti taking control of the cambion factions in Congress.
The Castella family is technically run by Blaine Castella, but Deirdre’s really the one holding everything together, so they’re relatively okay. They still have their financial/political power largely intact after the heirship scandal that resulted from Deirdre’s birth (she was passed over as heir due to her parents’ scandalous marriage, although not disowned entirely.) The current heir to the family is still a child, which adds a potential element of instability. They’re the only nephilim family to still have a strong position in Congress.
The Conti family is ostensibly totally fine, with their political/financial power intact. However, Loreto Conti is entirely disinterested in politics, and is happy to let his wife and brother-in-law take over, which has ignited some fears about external influence on the family, although others contend that the Patils have improved the family standing significantly. Davina is seen as a highly competent heir, though, and the Contis technically (through Congresswoman Patil-Conti and Secretary Patil) wield the most political influence of any of the five families. They also have fewer embarrassing incidents with misbehaving cousins. The Davina scandal had the potential to be trouble for the family, but that was quickly shut down thanks to the evidence supporting her account, the family’s influence, and Davina’s own charm/charisma. So, for all intents and purposes, the Contis are doing the best.

Follower Celebration Fic: Chasing Pavements (1/23)
TITLE: Chasing Pavements RATING: (eventual) M PAIRINGS: Kurt/Blaine WORDS: 1707 SUMMARY: When Blaine Anderson moved to New York, he thought all his dreams would come true. However, living in the city is much harder than he thinks. Feeling lonely and sad - especially since his brother's wedding is quickly approaching, he gets drunk one evening and declares on social media that he's engaged himself. Now he has to find himself a fake fiance or admit to everyone that he made it all up.
It’s fake dating guys...
A/N: A Follower Celebration fic - written for my lovely followers since I hit a major milestone. You guys picked the plot, so I wrote the story. Hope you enjoy!! :) Thanks to @snarkyhag, always, for beta’ing my shenanigans.
I’m going to try to post this on Sunday evenings (but I promise nothing)
***
Chapter One: The New Blaine
When Blaine Anderson had moved to New York City four months earlier, he had been wide-eyed and optimistic about his future. New York, for all intents and purposes, is supposed to be the most energetic and awe-inspiring place in the world - and he has spent a majority of his young life counting down the days until he would finally be able to move there college. The summer after graduation, he had moved to the city with the expectation that his life would be changed for the better. Little does he know, the city would not magically make all of his dreams come true.
Living in New York City is hard. And not at all what he expects it to be.
***
“Teen Angel? I’m playing Teen Angel?” Blaine stands, indignant, in the office of Artie Abrams, the grad assistant and director of the play he had auditioned for the week earlier.
“Blaine,” Artie says, rolling his eyes as he neglects to look up from shuffling papers around on his desk. “Did you really expect to be cast as the lead as a freshman?”
“It’s an all freshman production,” Blaine points out - annoyed. “Teen Angel has only one scene. One! I had an amazing audition. I’m better than one scene.”
“Personally, I’d take it as a compliment,” Artie says with a tilt of his head. “I was being nice and saved you from swaying in the background. Now you have a one-scene solid chance to show off what skills you have to any talent agent that hasn’t seen a student production of Grease for the eighteenth-million time.”
“I was going to be in the background?!?”
“Look,” Artie holds his hand up. “Stop right there and listen while I give you a little advice. This is New York University, not some B-rate school in the middle of Indiana where you were top dog.”
“Ohio,” Blaine automatically corrects.
“Whatever,” Artie waves it off. “My point is -- yes, your voice is dreamy, and I am nothing but charmed by your wide-eyed innocence and naivete. But, honestly, when looking for a Danny Zuko, we were looking for someone who embodied raw, animalistic sex appeal, and frankly, you remind me of my gay grandfather.”
“Okay, but you still cast me as Teen Angel,” Blaine grumbles. “That’s not completely void of sex appeal.”
Artie looks unimpressed. “He’s a hallucination of a teenage girl, who’s shallow and obsessed with her hair. I’m sure you’ll be a hit with the drag queens.”
“You did not just…” Blaine storms out of the office before he really says something not nice.
He doesn't think the day could get much worse.
It does.

closed starter @blainehummerson
Eli’s week was off to a really rough start. Hearing from her ex-boyfriend of four years was already enough to throw her for a loop. But then, to hear through the muckraker that her parents had essentially bribed him to stay with her after their break-up because it made her more bearable? It killed her. Whether the comments had been made as a joke or not didn’t matter—Eli was hurt. After a big blow up fight with her parents about it, Eli spent a couple of days at Finn’s place and then made the decision to go stay with her grandfathers indefinitely. Her plan was to have one of her grandpas pick her up at home after she’d packed a suitcase of her essentials, but both of them were running errands and would be a little while. Frustrated and not wanting to spend another minute at home, she called her Uncle Blaine. After a short, teary conversation on the phone, she got him to agree to scoop her so that she could wait to be picked up at the Hummel-Anderson residence instead of her own. Once she heard a honk outside, Eli booked it down the stairs with her suitcase and out the front door she went. She quickly packed her bag into the trunk and then let herself into the passenger side of the car. “Hi Uncle B,” the St. James daughter greeted, buckling herself in and giving a sad smile, “thanks for picking me up. You’re really saving my life.”

Fic A Day - July 2019 Edition - Day 3
Title: North
Author: darriness
Word Count: 640
Summary: Directions
Author’s Note: So I got asked to sort of recap this verse so people do not have to go back and read all 365 fics from last year. So I'll do that in bullet point form but I will say that if a fic directly connects with one from last year I will link it :) But here goes a 'quick' recap:
- this verse is pretty much cannon until Kurt leaves for college (after that I pick and choose what I wish to follow but the biggest things I changed are Blaine never cheated, Klaine never broke up (either time), and Finn is still alive) - they have two kids - Lizzy and Matty - Lizzy is four years older than Matty - they have Lizzy when they are 27 and 28 respectively - Lizzy is biologically Blaine's and Matty is biologically Kurt's (they have the same mother - an OC named Melissa) - Matty comes out as bisexual at 17 - Kurt is a fashion designer and Blaine for the most part is a Broadway actor - Blaine retires from acting when he's 40 and goes on to teach acting at the college level - Burt and Carole move out to New York just before Lizzy is born - Blaine and Kurt live in the Bushwick loft during college but then move to their own apartment afterwards - They buy a house in Scarsdale NY right before Lizzy is born and stay there for the rest of their lives - Rachel marries Jesse and they have a son named Nash who is Matty's age (and Matty's best friend) - they move out to Scarsdale some time after Kurt and Blaine do
I THINK that's all the big points (though I may be missing some). I do suggest that maybe you give those fics a read :) Maybe...if you wanna.
AO3 Link
Kurt muses, as he pads down the stairs of his father and Carole’s townhouse in nothing but his pajamas and bedhead, that even though he didn’t grow up in this house, it feels like home. He hadn’t thought that would be the case when Burt and Carole decided to move away from Ohio and join them in New York all those years ago. Even though the house they moved from wasn’t technically Kurt’s ‘childhood home’, he’d spent a good part of his teenage years in that house. He had feared he’d always feel like nothing more than a guest in their New York home. That hadn’t been the case from the moment they moved in and he had been so thankful for that.
He, Blaine and the kids have spent a lot of time here over the years but he doesn’t often sleep over - this being probably only the third time in the almost twenty-two years they’ve lived here that he’s done it. The first was a few months after they’d had Lizzy and she’d been up all night crying due to colic. Carole had told them to pack her up and bring her over so they could help while he and Blaine tried to get some sleep. The second had come after a huge fight he’d had with Blaine and he’d needed space. And this time is because of termites in their house.
Kurt shudders at the thought and hopes the extermination is quick and effective. Until then, the three members of the Anderson-Hummel clan not currently away at college are spending a few days with Burt and Carole.
Kurt had left Blaine snoring in bed in order to get up and go in search of coffee. It’s a Saturday so neither he or Blaine need to work but he still needs the brown liquid to function in the morning.
As he gets closer to the kitchen he can hear voices and furrows his brows when he recognizes the voices of his father and son. Usually Matty isn’t up until noon unless he has to be and a quick glance at the clock tells Kurt it’s not even nine.
“So to get there you wanna go south on Leland Avenue, north on Pelham Road and then east on Hudson Park Road.” Burt is saying.
“I’m sorry what?” Matty says and it’s obvious he’s confused. Kurt can picture his son’s face so clearly - trying so hard to respect his grandfather but having no idea what he’s saying.
Kurt chuckles as he enters the kitchen and lays a hand on his dad’s shoulders, “Dad, you gotta remember who you’re talking to. Using words like ‘north’ and ‘south’ is like speaking another language to him. It’s probably safer to just say ‘google it.’” Kurt’s not even sure what they were talking about but he knows for a fact that whatever his dad just told his son...it went way over his head.
Burt scoffs, “You’re telling me kids these days don’t understand directions?”
Kurt shrugs, “Dad, kids in MY day didn’t understand directions.”
“I used to give you directions all the time.” Burt says with a skeptical eyebrow raise.
Kurt nods, “And I would nod politely along before, you know,...googling it.”
Matty chuckles from his seat across from his grandfather at the kitchen table while Burt rolls his eyes with a playful wave in his son’s direction, “What were you giving him directions to anyway?” Kurt asks.
“Just the park and beach up at Hudson. He wants to take his boy out on a date around here and didn’t know where to go.” Kurt smiles into his coffee mug at the casual mention of Matty’s boyfriend.
“That sounds nice.” Kurt says.
“Yeah, if he can find his way there.” Burt pokes and the three generations of Hummel men all laugh together.

Kurt was unlike anyone Blaine had ever met. And Blaine was starting to think that he wasn’t the only one at Dalton with a supernatural secret. To most people, Kurt Hummel seems like your average high schooler; but there’s nothing average about him. Kurt is a warlock – a warlock that can’t use magic. When he was born, his magic went dormant, and no one knows why. But sometimes, he’s capable of things that no one – not even Kurt himself – can explain.

Klaine one-shot “Under the Boardwalk” (Rated G)
Summary:
After overhearing some bad news, Kurt leaves his parents in their hotel room and goes for a walk … but he gets lost. Eventually he stumbles upon a stranger who points him in the right direction is a number of ways. (2883 words)
Kid!fic inspired by the beginning of the movie Beaches. Takes place in the late 50s.
Read on AO3.
Kurt doesn’t know where he is.
He didn’t expect to get this far.
Of course, he wasn’t really thinking when he left. He just needed a break. So he thought, once up and down the boardwalk. That’s all. He’d aim for as far as Nathan’s Hot Dog stand, turn around and come back. It was a straight shot. No chance of getting lost. This was the same walk they’d taken yesterday. It was a no-brainer. But after a while, everything started to look the same – every store front, every lifeguard station, every food cart.
He’d walked straight! Perfectly straight!
Or so he thought.
He never made it to Nathan’s. And now, caught in the bustle of people mobbing the beach, playing carnival games, and eating food he normally wouldn’t touch but which smells heavenly to his starving stomach, he has no clue how to get anywhere. He becomes frantic, anxiety welling up within him, filling his chest until there’s no room for anything, even his racing heart. He considers yelling for his mom and dad, but seeing as they didn’t come with him that would be no use. They’ve probably discovered he’s gone by now and are worried sick – another unnecessary load heaped on to their pile of stress. And Kurt … well, Kurt might as well dig himself a cave in the sand because this is where he’s going to live from now on.
Lost and exhausted, his feet aching and the back of his neck burning, he walks over to the stairs leading down to the beach. And even though he’s not a big fan of sitting on anything thousands of human shoe soles have touched, he drops down onto the warped wood and begins to sob.
“Stupid, stupid, stupid!” he mutters. “Whining like a baby! You’re eleven-years-old, Kurt! Grow up!” He sniffs, wiping at his wet cheeks with the back of his hand.
“Hey!”
Kurt’s head shoots up when he hears a voice call out. There are tons of people on the beach today, and lots of people calling hey, but for some reason, Kurt feels like this particular hey is directed at him.
“Hey! You up there!”
The voice is closer now, but the fact that it’s coming from underneath his butt pretty much cinches it. He looks down between his legs, through the space between the steps, and sees a face staring up at him.
“Jesus!” Kurt screams, leaping to his feet. He stumbles down the steps, landing on his butt in the sand.
“Oh, hey! Are you okay?”
Kurt peers into the grey-gold shadows underneath the boardwalk and sees the face with body attached running towards him.
“You lost or somethin’, kid?”
Kid? Kurt stares at the boy wearing a black leather jacket and blue jeans – at the beach, of all places! - thinking he can’t be any older than he is. In fact, Kurt’s sure he’s older, if only by a day. Kurt stares at the boy in a daze, unsure what to do when he reaches a hand out to him. His parents warned him never to talk to strangers. But he’s frightened and he’s desperate.
And he could really use a friend.
“Yeah. Yeah, I am,” Kurt says, taking the boy’s hand, letting him help him to his feet.
“Where’re your folks?” he asks, eyes sweeping the beach and the boardwalk behind them as if he’s going to be able to pinpoint Kurt’s parents even though he’s never seen them before in his life.
“They’re back at our room.”
The boy beckons Kurt under the boardwalk, and whether it’s a smart decision or not, Kurt follows. With the skin on his neck and scalp screaming from the heat, he needs to get out of the sun.
“You shouldn’t be here alone. This place ain’t exactly the safest, even in the daytime.” The boy falls down onto a small blanket covering the sand and crosses his legs. He looks Kurt up and down, his lips curling. “You must be from outta town, cuz you’ve got fresh meat written all over you.”
Kurt glances down at his shirt as if checking to see if something he didn’t notice before is actually written there, and the boy smiles.
“My name’s Blaine. Blaine Anderson,” the boy says. His eyelids narrow as he asks, “You wouldn’t have heard of me before by any chance … would you?”
“I don’t think so. But you’ve probably never heard of me before, either.” Kurt kneels on the blanket and sticks out his hand. “I’m Kurt Hummel.”
“Yeah, you are!” Blaine laughs, slapping Kurt’s hand instead of shaking it, and Kurt rolls his eyes. Blaine is teasing, but he’s not being mean. “Maybe I can help you. I sort of live here.”
“Under the boardwalk?”
“No. In Jersey. Where are you staying?”
“I … I don’t know. It’s not a hotel. It’s more of a bungalow? A group of them, right off the beach. There’s a fountain in the middle with a mermaid playing the flute … and it’s by a restaurant …”
Blaine whistles. “You’re staying at the Shore Cottages. Not too shabby. Your folks have money?”
“No,” Kurt replies, taken back, wondering if giving Blaine this much information was a mistake. His father warned him that criminals often employ kids to pickpocket for them. Could Blaine be one of those? In his leather jacket and jeans, hair slicked back like James Dean, he definitely looks the part, but maybe that’s a big clue that he’s not one. He’s too obvious. “In fact, this is the first vacation we’ve ever taken out of state. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen the beach.” Kurt looks down at the blanket beneath his knees. It’s torn and frayed, off-white in places when it should be bright, and faded around the edges, burnt from the sun. Kurt has to wonder if Blaine brought this blanket with him or if he just found it here. “It’s the first time for a lot of things.”
“What’s the big occasion?”
Kurt chews around the words before he says them, trying to make his mouth form them into something different. Something better. But he can’t change reality. He can only live with it.
“My mother’s sick. She’s more than sick. She’s … she’s dying. I just found out today.”
Blaine looks aghast. “You mean to tell me your folks brought you out here for your first ever summer vacation by the shore just to tell you your mom’s sick?” Blaine shakes his head disapprovingly. “That’s cold.”
“No!” Kurt rushes to defend his parents with tears welling in his eyes. “No, that’s not … they didn’t tell me. I overheard my mom and dad talking, and she said a word …”
Blaine is on the brink of asking what word?, but the way Kurt bites his lips together and closes his eyes, as if shutting out the world might shut out the truth, Blaine already knows.
His grandfather died of cancer a few years ago. When they first found out, his mom often made that same face. But his grandfather was in his seventies. He’d lived a long, happy life, watched his children grow into adults, get married, start lives of their own.
Kurt’s mother can’t be older than Blaine’s, and she’s only in her forties.
“The thing is, I think I’ve known for a while,” Kurt admits.
“How?”
Kurt shrugs. “In little ways. My mom started getting colds a lot, and it always takes her forever to get over them. She’s tired all the time, she has these scary coughing fits, she …” He stops, feeling more hopeless now than when he left. “I don’t think they know how to tell me. I think my mom and dad wanted us to have this last summer together before they had to deal with it. You know?”
“Yeah, I know.” Blaine inches closer – close enough that the fingers of his left hand are only a hair or so away from Kurt’s right. “That’s rough. I’m sorry.”
“Thank you.” Kurt nods into the companionable silence, gaze fixed on the ocean – calm to his eyes, but he can hear the waves crashing beneath the slope of the beach in front of him. That’s how his parents have been, he realizes – calm and happy on the outside for his benefit when, on the inside, they’ve probably been screaming.
“How long you guys stayin’ out here for?” Blaine asks.
“Two weeks. And when we get home, we’re buying a house closer to the hospital where my mom’s getting her care. I heard them say they’re going to take me out of school, move me away from the only friends I have to some place two hours away! I’m going to some dumb old school called … Daiton Prep?” Kurt squints at the sunlight streaming through the slats in the wood walkway above them as he tries to remember what his father called it. “Dyson Prep? Di … Dover Prep?”
Blaine leans in questioningly. “Dalton Prep?”
Kurt snaps his fingers. “That’s it! Dalton Prep?” He turns to Blaine, tilting his head suspiciously. “How did you know?”
“I live here, but I’m not from here. I’m a Buckeye, too. From Westerville. My brother and I came out here ‘temporarily’ (*air-quotes applied*) after I won the Kings Island Variety Show.”
“I’ve seen that!” Kurt says in awe. “They air it on TV! That must have been so exciting! You must be really talented!”
“Well …” Blaine blushes, rolling his head away so Kurt won’t see “… you know, for a seasoned performer like myself, it’s just another day at the office.”
“So, what’s your talent?” Kurt asks, but hurrying to guess before Blaine can answer. “I know! You’re a tap dancer! No … a ventriloquist!”
Blaine’s bashful smile crashes like the waves on the shore below them.
“No, I’m a singer. I do a mini-Elvis routine down at the Nickelodeon that brings the house down, if I do say so myself.”
“A singer? Wow! I—I want to be a singer someday. Except, I want to perform in musicals.”
“Do you?”
“Oh, yeah. That’s my biggest dream ever!”
Blaine nibbles his lower lip, considering the boy in front of him, thinking so heavily it shows on his face. “You know, Dalton Prep is the starter school for Dalton Academy. And they have a singing group called The Warblers. They’re kind of like rock stars. Scouts go to their performances and everything! Guys who’ve sung with them have gone on to tour, cut records, even sing on Broadway!”
Kurt’s eyes go wide. “Broadway?”
“Uh-huh. It’s a really good school.”
“I guess … that’s not so bad.”
“No, it isn’t. There’re definitely way worse places in the world, you know.”
“I do.” Kurt nods soberly. “At my school, I get bullied a lot.”
“There, you see? That won’t happen at Dalton. They have a policy – no bullying allowed. And they’re very strict about it.”
“That does sound nice,” Kurt admits, but his gaze drops to his hands again. “But I still won’t know anyone there. And … I don’t make friends very easily. People seem to think I’m weird.”
Blaine puts his head on Kurt’s shoulder and blinks up at him ridiculously, making Kurt giggle. “You’ve got me. And I’m weird, too! We’re a matching set!”
“Blaine! Blaine!”
“Ugh!” Blaine moans, dropping his head off Kurt’s shoulder and into his sand-covered hand.
“Who … who’s that?”
“The warden – a.k.a my big brother, Cooper.”
“Blaine! Where the hell are ya, kid?” The boardwalk above them rattles with the weight of running feet, knocking loose sand that rains down on them. Those same feet barrel down the steps and stop not too far from them. A man wearing jeans and a white tank top spins in a full circle. He stops, brilliant blue eyes (odd to Kurt since Blaine’s are hazel) staring straight at them. It must take a moment for his vision to adjust since he doesn’t seem to see them right away. He throws his arms in the air when he does. “Blaine! Jesus Christ, kid, you scared the life outta me! You’ve really gotta stop runnin’ off like that!”
“It’s a good thing I did because this guy here’s hella lost.”
Cooper only seems to notice Kurt when Blaine mentions him. “Really?”
“Yup. And if I wasn’t here, who knows where he’d’uv ended up. He’s not from around here.”
Cooper’s head bounces back and forth, deciding what to do with that information. When it reaches his right shoulder for the third time, he shrugs. “Well, ok. Let’s get him back to his folks and then you and I need to go back to the theater and practice. You’ve got a spotlight comin’ up in three days and, not to be mean or anythin’, but your footwork sucks! Uh …” He shoots a guilty look at Kurt. “I mean, stinks. Sorry, kid.”
“It’s alright,” Kurt says, mildly amused by the banter between these two siblings – one because Kurt is an only child, and two because Cooper has to be close to twice Blaine’s age!
“About that …” Blaine looks down at the sand, that thoughtful look returning to his face. “I was thinking that maybe we could go back home. See mom and dad. And maybe … I could go back to Dalton?”
Cooper’s jaw drops. He stares at Blaine like he suggested finding the closest sharp object and cutting off his own foot.
“I … I don’t think I heard you right there, squirt,” he says, side-stepping closer with a hand cupped to his ear. “Could you give me that again?”
“I said I don’t want to play the Nickelodeon anymore! It’s tired and it’s getting old. I wanna go home.”
Kurt had heard him the first time, but hearing Blaine repeat it makes his jaw drop, too. Blaine didn’t necessarily make it sound like he was living the dream out here, but he gets to perform in front of audiences who pay to see him! Who in the world would give that up? And why?
But it sounds like he hasn’t seen his folks in a while. Missing them might make him throw in the towel.
It would for Kurt.
“So what you’re saying is you wanna leave all this behind, your whole career as a performer, to go back to boring Ohio, let mom and dad shove you in a stiff, itchy uniform, and stick you back in Dalton Prep?”
Blaine nods dramatically. “Yes, Cooper. That’s exactly what I’m sayin’.”
Cooper throws his hands in the air again, but he doesn’t seem exasperated this time. He looks relieved. “Finally! God Almighty! I’m getting’ so sick of Jersey! I can’t wait to leave this place in my rearview! In fact, I’m marchin’ right down to that roach infested shack they call a theater and …”
“Coop?”
“… tell that cauliflower-eared mutant of a manager …”
“Cooper?”
“… that the Anderson boys are done working for peanuts!”
“COOP!”
Kurt deflates into a mass of laughter when Blaine’s voice cracks, which Blaine catches, and he starts laughing, too.
“Yeah, squirt?”
“Let’s leave on good terms. I mean, you never know.”
“What do you mean?”
“Give them two weeks’ notice. Have them cut us out of the schedule slowly,” he says, throwing Kurt a subtle wink. “That way we can pad our pockets a little more and spend some time on the beach. We haven’t really done that since we moved out here. It’d be nice to have somethin’ like a real vacation.”
“Yeah …” Cooper points emphatically at his brother for his great idea. “That’s the ticket, little bro. When did you get so smart?”
“I must have learned it from you, Coop,” Blaine says in a deadpanned tone Kurt suspects comes from repeatedly answering this question that same way, like it’s the only acceptable response.
“You’re darn tootin’. Come on. Let’s get your friend back to his folks and then we can work on that footwork.”
“Sure thing.” Blaine gets up first, taking a step or two downwind before he brushes off his jeans. “You comin’, Kurt?”
“Yeah,” Kurt says, doing the same. “Yeah, I’m coming.”
Kurt’s eyes burn something fierce when he steps out into the light, but he doesn’t feel so hopeless or heavy anymore. His mom’s still sick. He can’t get away from that, no matter how far down the beach he walks. But now he has a friend, someone he’s already shared that with, by his side. Someone he’ll know when he goes to school in the fall. Which makes Kurt curious:
“Did you … do that for me?”
“Eh, you know …” Blaine looks over at the ocean since he can’t keep the truth off his face if he tried “… I’m getting kind of tired of playing nickel and dime shows. We get practically no money. And the only way I can get any kind of a break is if I run off. It’ll be nice to go home and see my old friends again …” He bumps Kurt’s shoulder and smiles “… hang around with some new ones. Doesn’t sound so bad, does it?”
“No.” Kurt follows Blaine as he speeds ahead of Cooper, leading the way. “Doesn’t sound so bad at all.”

We never saw Blaine's father. You could argue his father is Filipino and changed his last name to assimilate. There's nothing in the show to prove he definitely isn't biracial, and plenty of hints he could be. So basically it isn't fact either way and everyone's headcanon is valid.
No- there isn’t anything to prove it either way. You could definitely make the argument his dad or grandfather changed their last name for sure. There are for sure scenarios that could make it canon that Blaine is half-Asian or half-Filipino. Glee didn’t spend much- any-time creating a detailed backstory for Blaine’s family-fandom was always pissed about that. Until we met his mom at the wedding, we didn’t know anything about his parents. I remember Blaine mentioned spending time with his parents at the end of “Shooting Star”. We had Cooper and there was the younger Blaine scene in “Big Brother” but was there anything else? I don’t recall any other scenes.
I don’t think Glee had written a comprehensive backstory for Blaine- they cast Ravi Singa Smith as young Blaine and Timothy Davis as Mr. Anderson (the scenes were deleted) who has Irish, Czech and Creek heritage according to IMBD and then 3 seasons later they cast Gina Gershon as Mrs. Anderson. According to the interwebs, she’s Russian, French and Dutch. Does that mean Blaine is white? Of course not- off the top of my head-he could be adopted, Mr. Anderson could be his step-dad-or they cut the scene because they didn’t want his dad to be white in which case his dad could be Asian, Mrs. Anderson could be his step-mom, one or more of his grandparent(s) could be Filipino. My only point-which I did not express well at all- was that the show didn’t give us a storyline that specifically told us Blaine’s backstory.
