Lately I’ve realized that I’ve had such a tight grip on my idea of what my experience during this life should be. Though this grip has led me to my mat and my practice, it has also led me through the constant stress of making sure I don’t lose my grip. I’m tired but I remain optimistic. Here in LA, I’ve found it so hard to find a yoga studio that has more than one Black instructor or more than one (me) Black person in the class. It’s awful, honestly. 🙄 Since the beginning of my yoga journey (6 years ago???), I was inspired to teach. I know I’m not the only who feels so connected to the practice but doesn’t connect 🙅🏾‍♀️ AT ALL 🙅🏾‍♀️ with the environment provided by an expensive monthly membership and the wonderful things that come from those who can afford it. 🚫NOT ON MY WATCH!🚫 During this beautiful #BlackHistoryMonth I am super excited to start my yoga teacher training! Personally, #childspose has always been a struggle and it still is. I can’t be the only one thinking that right?! 👀 I knew that this pose was for rest, but I didn’t know this was supposed to be an active rest?! Eventually (very very recently😅) I surrendered to child’s pose and listened to where my body and mind needed some adjusting, strengthening, more flexibility, more tlc💞 All while in child’s pose. What does your inner child need from you? A couple years ago, I challenged myself to workout 60 days in a row. My intention in working out was to reach a number that I thought would define who I was. And I was okay, if not excited, to finally be called a name that was the opposite of what I’ve ever been. Since then, I’ve come to realize I love the body that I’m in. I love how I can watch my body change through its seasons. I love how my body reminds me of the past, present, and future in different ways. I love how my body brought me to my mat.
