I wanted to honor #BlackHistoryMonth by highlighting some of the African American/Black Pro Wrestling pioneers and legends. For today's post I wanted to spotlight the third of famed Black Women's wrestling sisters The "African Black Cat" Marva Scott (November 21, 1937 - August 15th, 2003.)

Scott was the youngest sister of Babs Wingo and Ethyl Johnson. And as it was with her sisters, she was trained by legendary Women's Champion Mildred Burke.

Aside from her working with and against her sisters and other Black women talent, there isn't much else about her that I could find. I'll update if I find anything else out.

I wanted to honor #BlackHistoryMonth by highlighting some of the African American/Black Pro Wrestling pioneers and legends. For today's post I wanted to spotlight the man known as "El Gigante de Ébano" Dory Dixon.

Born in Jamaica, Dixon would grow up to become a physical specimen focusing on professional bodybuilding. At a tournament in Mexico, Dixon found that he loved the the country and culture so much that he decided to stay in Mexico. While there he caught the eye of Salvador Lutteroth the founder of Mexico's first wrestling promotion Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre (EMLL precursor to the CMLL promotion.) After training for his wrestling debut, Dixon would become one of the most popular wrestlers in the promotion often facing off against top star El Santo.

EMLL was the NWA territory in Mexico and the home of NWA World Lightheavyweight title. Dixon would defeat Al Kashley in February of 1958 to become the third ever champion. He would hold the belt for over a year and a half. His path would lead across the Mexico/US border to the home of NWA Texas.

Dixon would find fame in the Texas territory by facing off against NWA Champion Pat O'Connor twice in January 1961. While he didn't win the gold against O'Connor, Dixon would win the NWA Texas Heavyweight Championship in July 1961. Soon thereafter he would wrestle again for the NWA Title, this time against "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers. While he didn't win, Dixon impressed enough that he would be signed by Vince McMahon Sr., and his Capitol Wrestling Promotion (future WWWF.) Dixon would once again wrestle Rogers for the NWA title in November 1962, this time at Madison Square Garden.

While in Capitol, Dixon would team with young wrestlers Bobo Brazil and Pedro Morales. After leaving the now WWWF, Dixon would wrestle in Japan and Australia before returning to Mexico where he would continue to wrestle into the 1980's. Dixon lives in Mexico and is a pastor of a Seventh-day Adventist Church.
