Another piece of comic book history that came from the Lost Heroes documentary that I didn't know of was the story of the first Canadian Female Superhero: Nelvana of the Northern Lights.

Pre-dating Wonder Woman by a few months, Nelvana debuted in Triumph-Adventure Comics 1 and tells the story of Alana North. North was born of a union between a human woman and the Inuit diety known as Koliak the Mighty King, King of the Northern Lights. Her Northern light based powers are used at first against the Nazis during World War II and later in Sci-Fi stories. Her brother Tanero would assist her on her adventures in the form of a Great Dane.

I'm watching the Lost Heroes documentary based on the history of Canadian Superheroes. I'll talk about the documentary in a later post. What I didn't know was that Superman co-creator Joe Shuster (with Jerry Siegal) was from Toronto, Canada born of immigrants from the Ukraine. Very interesting.

Next on the Sci-Fi marathon is the follow up to Ridley Scott's Prometheus: Alien Covenant (2017.) Ridley would also direct this movie.

Canonically this movie takes place in the year 2104, a decade after the events in Prometheus. Here's the synopsis for the film:

"A colonization ship named Covenant is en route to the planet Origae-6 when a freak accident causes the ship to be damaged and crew awakened from hypersleep. Upon commencing repairs, the crew discover an uncharted paradise with a threat beyond their imagination."

This movie stars Michael Fassbender (reprising his role of David from Prometheus and as Walter another android created by Weyland Industries,) Katherine Waterson, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride and Damien Bechir.

I have to admit, I've never watched this movie before. I'm curious to see the connection Covenant has to Prometheus and to the next film in the canon timeline: Alien (1979). On a side note, if there has ever been a movie poster influenced by the art and influence of H.R. Giger, this one is it.

Its been a while since I've watched a sci-fi flick. Today I'm starting with Ridley Scott's Prometheus (2012) Prometheus sets the timeline for the xenomorph flicks that started with the Ridley Scott directed Alien (1979) Here is the synopsis for the movie:

"The discovery of a clue to mankind's origins on Earth leads a team of explorers to the darkest parts of the universe. Two brilliant young scientists lead the expedition. Neither the scientists nor their shipmates are prepared for the unimaginable terrors that await them."

Its nice to see that Ridley Scott kept the female lead Noomi Rapace as the main protagonist as he did with Sigourney Weaver in Alien. The cast is solid with Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce and Logan Marshall-Green.

Let's see if I can remember anything about this movie from the first time I watched it.

Sorry for the late impressions on Mania night one. I was working late so I missed the Rhea/Becky and the 6 team ladder Tag match. Though I like how they finally split the unified tag titles apart. And giving R-Truth fka K-Kwik (yes, I've been watching wrestling THAT long) his Mania moment was 😙🤌🏽 I was making quick dinner during the Rey/Andrade vs Dom/Santos match, so I have nothing to say about that.

The Jay vs Jimmy match had some impact with the kicks, but something was missing. Though its not fair to compare but this match was definitely not Bret vs. Owen from Mania X. The six woman tag had Jade Cargill shining with her silver short hair 😍 And I felt that whip of Asuka by Bianca with the ponytail.

From what I saw, Night one was stolen by Sami vs Gunther and the main event of Cody/Seth vs Reigns and "The Final Boss" the Rock. First the IC Title match.

While I sensed that Sami was winning when the camera was panning his walk to the ring, this match had emotion. Definitely Sami's best match in WWE. The loss did nothing to bring down Gunther. On the contrary, now he can move up the world title tier of matches. And I'm curious to see how long it takes for Gable to turn heel against Sami.

As I mentioned above, I've watched wrestling for a long time. I've seen companies come and go but no company can put on a spectacle like WWE can. The four separate entrances leading into the main event, especially Seth's and the Rock's were amazing. And while the match wasn't tag team clinic, it had everything you wanted and more. The Rock silenced all the skeptics who wondered why he was main eventing Mania.

And Cody? We shall see if he rebounds from getting pinned to end a second consecutive night of Mania (Night 2 WM39 and Night 1 WM40) On to Night 2.

Time for the Main Event: Roman Reigns vs Kevin Owens for all the marbles. What role will Sami Zayn play in this match?

Its actually past my bedtime. Early work day tomorrow, so I will have to catch up with this match tomorrow.

Congrats to the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes. The ending was not better than when Drew won the Rumble in 2022 but it delivered a great building up for Gunther. And the spot between Paul and Ricochet was 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Speaking of Paul, Jake Paul vs Seth Rollins at Mania is going to be insane. And thankfully Brock didn't dominate the Rumble. We've seen that already.

On to the next match.

The Eighth Wonder of the World André the Giant (André René Roussimoff) passed away on this day in 1993.

André was larger than life in the world of Professional Wrestling and pop culture. Undoubtedly he is one of the most popular pro wrestlers of all-time.

It was announced late yesterday that Jay Briscoe (real name Jamin Pugh) of the legendary tag team The Briscoe Brothers had passed away after being involved in a fatal car crash.

The 38-year old was a 20-year veteran in the Pro Wrestling business holding tag team titles with his brother Mark all over the world. They are currently the Ring of Honor tag team champions having defeated FTR in a brutal double dog collar match at ROH Final Battle.

May Jamin Rest in Peace. We send out condolences and thoughts to the Pugh family.

The cover to Amazing Spider-Man 28 has always been one of my favorite covers.

Drawn by Steve Ditko, the use of mostly dark shadows to highlight Molten Man and hide Spidey always fascinated me as a kid.

I originally saw it in the reprint from Marvel Tales 166 which flipped the original cover. Even now 30 years later, its a beautiful cover.
