You know what I think about? The fact that it's confirmed that Angela helped on Blackwatch missions until Genji was coerced into joining. Meaning technically Angela was both an Overwatch and Blackwatch agent.

And if my theory that Gerard was 20 when he first started going on missions is write, then Cassidy and Gerard were probably the first friends close to her age that she made. Cassidy being the first friend since he would have been a trainee and she would have only been volunteering since they met around when they were 17.

Which makes everything that happened a lot worse because Angela lost both of her first and best friends during the final years of Overwatch. Gerard dying and her loosing contact with Cassidy because he had to go on the run.

Honestly I hope we get to hear about the early Blackwatch days more. Especially since the main group would have been Reyes, Cassidy, Angela and Gerard, I want to see what that dynamic was, they would have definitely been closer then the Retribution group.

Honestly I would kill if they brought back the archive events and added a new event that has that group.

Blackwatch timeline

Ok, so, bear with me, this is going to take a lot of little points for me to peace together to make the bigger picture here.

So, we know that Gabriel Reyes worked as a police officer and was know for arresting lots of criminals, but then he didn't find his work having any sort of impact of the criminal rate and figured that to destroy crime he had to cut it off at the source, correct?

And he was born in 2018, making his 58 in the current (Overwatch) year of 2076. We also know the Omnic crisis started exactly 30 years ago, when he was 28.

Then (If we're going with the earliest years possible for everything) Overwatch was founded a year later and he was put in charge of Overwatch as Strike Commander when he was 29.

If we're approximating that the Omnic Crisis lasted about 3 ish years, then he was 32 when it ended and his Command was switched to Blackwatch.

He was 32 when Blackwatch was created!

The sting operation that resulted in Jesse McCree (or Cole Cassidy whatever you want to call him) joining Blackwatch took place when McCree was 17. Which leads me to the question of who was Gabriel Reyes even working with on missions before hand? Did he have a strike squad before he picked up Jesse McCree?

We also know there's about ten years age difference between Gabriel Reyes and Jesse McCree, which means McCree was 12 when Blackwatch was formed.

And Genji joined Blackwatch in 2066, which is only 10 years prior. Making Gabriel Reyes 48 and Jesse McCree 38. That is a huge age gap and what do we even know about what happened during that time?

Roughly a year or so later we know that Gabriel Reyes invites Moira into Blackwatch and she starts her experiments on him? But like, we know nothing about these experiments, only what they did. And if the short story 'Code of Violence' is being added into the mix, then we're led to believe that the initial experiments that Moira conducted on him did not have as dramatic effect. I don't really know what that entails, but it could mean that he could mist and move around a little bit, but was otherwise a full man. In the 'Code of Violence' short story it's mentioned that Moira is the one to find Gabriel Reyes after the explosion of the Overwatch facility, and to 'save' his life she pumped him full of the chemicals she used in her prior experiments, the results being Reaper. It meant his body became more mist like and he had to concentrate on being a full man almost every moment of the day, it also meant he was in constant pain and his anger was harder and harder to control. He also started to find gratification in the more gruelling and cruel acts. Or at least that was the impression I got from the story. But my point is, the most we have referencing the experiments Moira conducted on Gabriel Reyes are this picture:

And a paragraph or two in the story 'Code of Violence' which more focuses on his internal struggles immediately after the incident.

Then, (getting back on track, that was a bit of rant sorry) we know the Venice incident took place 8 years ago, when Gabriel Reyes kills Antonio Bartalotti and reveals Blackwatch to the world, and putting it under the investigation of Jack Morrison, Gérard Lacroix and Ana Amari. As seen in the end scenes of Retribution and in the photo below:

We also know that somewhere in between the next two years Genji moves from the Blackwatch divison to the Overwatch strike team including Tracer, Mercy and Winston. We also know that his cybernetics have been updated in this time. But, I'm not entirly confident on the idea that he was moved to Overwatch from Blackwatch, there's nothing that we know (or I've found) that supports that idea, other than him appearing in the Overwatch strike team during the Storm Rising archives mission and his updated cybernetics.

Then, 6 years ago the Overwatch Swiss HQ is blown up and Gabriel Reyes and Jack Morrison are presumed dead. The Petras act is ratified and Overwatch is disbanded.

A lot of investigation is put into Overwatch and Blackwatch's activities between the time period of the Retribution achieves mission and the Petras act's ratification. Which is a time period of roughly 2 years.

My point is, there are huge gaps in the timeline and not all the information is concrete, a lot of it is inferred from what we have. (Blizzard I beg give us more lore).

There's the 5 years between Blackwatch being founded and McCree being bought into the organisation, where we know next to nothing.

Then there's 21 years between McCree and Genji joining Blackwatch. What happened in those 21 years? Surely there are some important events to note in 21 years?

The later years of Blackwatch are less murky, but there's still no solid dates or years being handed to us by Blizzard and it's been 7 years! I mean come on! All the dates and ages I used in this are drawn from the Overwatch Timeline on the fandom Wiki, and those are only approximations that make sense with the ages we've been given for the current game.

Anyway, I just wanted to complain about this because I feel like I don't hear enough people complaining about it. It's probably the same for Overwatch, but at least we have more of an idea what the Overwatch organisation was like. We roughly know that there were a lot more foot soldiers than Blackwatch had, at least that's what I thought was implied every time it was bought up or featured. It's easier to fill in the gaps between the years as general peace keeping, but Blackwatch was supposed to handle the more rogue missions (Can't really think of a better word for it). There's only so much guessing and filling in we can do Blizzard!

Have some of my Headcanons for Moira from Overwatch!

☣️There’s some descriptions of violence but nothing graphic(I think)☣️

General Headcanons

Moira has some form of training. There’s no way in Hell Blackwatch would let their only healer depend on one item to defend herself with. While Biotic Grasp is a reliable way for her to defend herself, she’s not going to do as well if surrounded and/or on her own or against something like a tank (I may know this from experience playing OW-). So it’s not hard to believe that Moira has some basic training at least to ensure she isn’t vulnerable.

Moira has something going with her blue eye. In almost all of her skins, something is going on around her eye. The only ones that don’t have anything covering the eye or just have something going on with it are the Archive skins. Both, at most, cover her blue eye a bit but it’s still visible! I count these as canon as both are archive skins and the mini games are likely their way of canonically adding lore! So there is likely SOMETHING going on with her eye, my best guess is sensitivity and scarring she covers up, likely caused by her experiments. What experiments they could’ve been are hard to say.

Moira is TERRIFYING if you piss her off. There’s mad, and then there’s PISSED. Moira will usually have a stoic expression or a small smile but if you manage to make her mad, she will glare at you, be snippy and snaps at you more often. If you piss her off, she’s quiet. You’ll know that you pissed her off if you look at her and see her staring at you with wide eyes, as if you’re a prey. She’s glaring at you and never takes her eyes off of you. She’s silent and only stops staring if others are near. The experiments have affected her body enough that her being pissed seems to have a visual defect on her. Thankfully it’s surprisingly difficult TO piss her off but if you manage to do it, she’s figuring out how to make you suffer.

She’s a sadomasochist. She enjoys the more psychological and mental harm rather than physical. Watching someone’s mind break, shatter, and crumble satisfies and pleases her much more than watching someone writhe in physical pain. She actually find most physical harm inflicted onto others boring unless it’s done in a creative way. Her sadism is more known than her masochism as she rarely allows anyone to harm her. In terms of masochism, she enjoys being cut to the point she’s nearly bleeding out. It gives her a thrill, it excites her, she can go too far at times though. Her favorite form of masochism is being cut and possibly whipping but she’s too private for anyone to even think of the possibility.

She has siblings, however she keeps her family and childhood a secret. It’s not hard to find that information but she’s scarily protective over her siblings. No one has gotten close enough to figure out why she’s so protective.

She’s used to shenanigans because of her siblings, that doesn’t mean she likes them though. If she ever takes part, it’s either a very small contribution or can’t be traced back to her. She has to keep her more professional look after all.

She’s a patient person, it took weeks for Akande to figure out the progress of an experiment because she was going to experiment until she was done or she couldn’t continue. After that he made it clear that she had to give progress reports, she finds them a waste of time as she could’ve been experimenting instead of writing these reports but she reluctantly complies.

She genuinely loves insects—centipedes and spiders the most—and if she trusts you enough, she can and will go into a hyperfixated rant and ramble about the mentioned insect. If you manage to get into her room, you’ll find small bits of bug decor as well as her love for anime and manga.

She’s fluent in many languages. She always seems to know what someone’s saying regardless of the language spoken. It’s more of a question of what she doesn’t know now. She even knows and uses sign language! (Sombra has yet to find a language Moira doesn’t know well)

She actually listens to Sigma’s rambles and humors him, at first she would wonder and think about them but now she’s more annoyed by them with how often his thoughts wander from the subject to insanity.

She can be empathetic…she just doesn’t like or trust anyone enough to feel anything for them.

She genuinely believes she can improve and help others with her experiments and thinks if others let her, she could make many improvements to others. This may include the effects she and Reaper go through and what she has done to her rabbits.

She’s more sympathetic to animals than people and even then it’s usually the bare minimum. She can’t bring herself to euthanize the rabbits who can live the life of a pet so she often gives them up to owners if the changes left behind are minor. If the rabbits have gone through a major change, she keeps and takes care of them as she can’t bring herself to neglect them to death either. (She got attached to one and named it Rasputin as it nearly died twice but is still kicking. It’s a large rabbit with specks of white on its black fur, a mutation from her experiments.)

Moira has two phobias. Geese and Lightning/Thunder. Both are related to more traumatic events from her childhood that she’s kept quiet about. Both happened when she was a child and she’s been unable to work through them. She’s embarrassed of her phobias but thankfully she can hide them, mostly.

With Geese, she freezes and watches the animal. If it gets close, she’ll back away from it and avoid it. If it hisses and chases, it’s one of the few times you actually see her terrified and hear her scream. This does result in a panic attack if she’s been exposed to the animal for too long and she always ends up hiding in weird places that geese can’t get into. With lightning/thunder, she sort of just freezes and looks around. She’s more on edge and ends up hiding in small compact areas with headphones on to keep herself calm. No one has been able to figure out her trauma that triggered these phobias and why she hasn’t been to a therapist about them.

She likes to be annoying sometimes, especially if it’s payback for something.

I might add more later(maybe some nsfw headcanons), but this is what I got for now :p.

Blackwatch Bros

Cole hadn't left his room in what felt like forever. Genji wanted to check up on him and make sure he was okay and help his friend in whatever way possible.

OP, is it okay to ask for some analysis of OV archive skins? Literally any skin at all. Which hero skin do you like the most from their history? Any theories about how it turns into or effects them now? I'm also sad that you can't get some anymore, I know it's limited, but I really hope they bring some back.

Ok because of this I wanted to try giving an analysis on all the achieve skins but...there are way too many and some of them aren't even lore related so I'm just gonna look at some of my favorites.

Blackwatch Cassidy

I think everyone expected this but Blackwatch Cassidy is one of my favorite Overwatch skins.

Specifically because of all the little details in this skin. Something to take note of is that out of all the Blackwatch skins, Cassidy's has the most unique to him design. All the others seem to just be wearing uniforms meanwhile Cassidy has little personalized items on him. One of those items being a Deadlock belt buckle, to add to that this is the only skin where we can see his deadlock tattoo. Also I want to point out that timeline wise this is when he started wearing high healed boots. This also seems to be when Cassidy started wearing sarapes too. Honestly you can see so much of Cassidy's past and personality in this skin!!

Talon Widowmaker

Pre experiments Talon Widow is such an interesting concept to me and the fact that you can still see a bit of her personality showing through in this skin is so fascinating. It's a canon fact that Amelie came from a conservative family, it's also hinted that Amelie didn't get along with her family, so her wearing a revealing outfit is very much part of her and probably a bit of a "fuck you" to her family. Also the fact that her hair is bright blue when we see her pre talon having black hair implies that she dyed it either right before or after she joined Talon permanently. It also should be noted that her hair is much shorter than it is now implies that she stopped getting it cut, which is bad for a sniper considering that fact that her hair would get in the way. Not only that but her hair is currently in one big braid, as someone who only does that when I'm not planning on taking care of my hair for awhile I read that as her avoiding addressing it, putting her hair in the most convenient hair style so she won't have to address it until it's mandatory.

Aviator Pharah

I freaking love this skin. The little details of the knee-guards on her jeans is so nice, also her belt buckle being the aviator symbol is so cool (taking after her brother with the belt buckles being a important part of their design). Also the fact that it's cannon that the rocket pack she has on her back just fits into a backpack she wears in her casual outfit, cause yeah this is her casual outfit. Also I can't help but notice that this skin has a very similar vibe to Cassidy's Deadlock skin (she takes after Cole so much and no one talks about it).

That's all I'm going to talk about for now but if anyone wants me to analyze a specific skin I'll be happy to do so!

The Archives events Part 1 - Uprising

Uprising was the first achieves event introduced into Overwatch and was released in 2017. It was also a huge hit. It was introduced some four or five months before I started playing, but just reading through the comments and from my personal memories surrounding the event. I can say for certainty it was a hit.

I'll start it off small. they introduced a series of banger skins for this event, and until this day some of them are still my favourites.

Obviously, on top of the skins and the cosmetics, the mission was released.

This was the introduction video. Unlike the following two events, it didn't have an outro cutscene, just this short one at the start.

The uprising mission story itself, is simply stop a war before it begins. There's an null sector invasion in London that needs tackling before it progresses into something more, and Jack Morrison sends in a small strike team.

Their goal is to gain control of the large artillery guns scattered across kings row and take down their defences so Overwatch can move in and save some prisoners stuck in the factory, aka the final payload location.

There's also a lovely little pre-lude to the mission in the form of a comic. Said comic is also called Uprising and details the finer complications of Overwatch's actions in London.

It shows the complicated nature of the relations between Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes, and the strain Blackwatch was having.

It discusses the politics of Overwatch and highlights how much Overwatch was under fire at that point. It also gives us a look into Tracer and how she handled the start of her first mission as well.

Because, yes, this was Tracer's first ever field mission.

It also just gives us a nice little jewel, and shows us where Tracer got her "the cavalry's here" line.

All in all, the Uprising event was delivered with Grace, lore, cosmetics, and interactive and fun gameplay.

Overwatch 2 could never.

I have just published the first chapter of a fic I’ve been planning on writing for a while now, and it would be pretty cool if you checked it out! It’s Cassidy centered, and plays around with a hc of mine on both his time in Blackwatch, as well as how his life was before Deadlock!!
